Right. He just had to double check. All these professors changing subjects this term...it was confusing!

He sat back in his seat, twisting his quill between his fingers as the rest of the class answered the question, and that Dylan fellow who had been present during that fight at the lake volunteered to keep a list of goblins for the class. Goblins, goblins....he opened his notes and flipped to the page with all his goblin facts on them, which wasn't that much. Sigh.

He couldn't help it that this class was the one he dazed off in the most!

"Splendid! Come get a piece of chalk, young man," Svensson said as he stepped away from the board.

He sat in an empty desk in the circle and introduced the first goblin they would study. "Some of you may have heard of Urg the Unclean," Svensson said. "He's one of the more well-known leaders of a goblin rebellion. What do the lot of you know about him? Why do you think was he called 'the Unclean'? What may have sparked his distaste for wizards?"

Ema raised her hand. Why not? "Urg the Unclean was dunked into a pond by a group of wizards and humiliated. I assume the joke was that he was unclean or dirty in a way, and that's why he was an activist against wizards. It was very cruel of them." she nodded vigorously.

Mmmmmhmm!

Miranda had really no idea, but the name of the Goblin seemed...odd. She raised her hand. "Sir, maybe he was unfair and not just at all. The nickname he had was maybe an indication oh how he negotiated and dealed with others. He was unclean...he might've tricked his opponents and cheated...with stuff...maybe." She looked worried. Well, it was a guess.

Right-o. Dylan was handy with chalk. He hopped to his feet. He took the chalk from the teacher, and prepared to write awesomeness.

URG THE UNCLEAN

He wrote first in his semi-cursive script.

Fred looked in his book then raised his and said, "Urg the Unclean led the Goblin rebellions of the 18th century".

"Professor, he led the 18th century Goblin Rebellion. It's said that at some point in his life, he was publicly ducked in a village pond by a group of young wizards and it's possible that this act triggered one of the rebellions he led."

Mina looked up from her note taking and raised her hand. "He was said to have been publicly dunked in a village pond by a group of young wizards. Maybe this might have triggered his distaste."

Reese raised her hand. "I remember something about him being ducked in a pond...or something like that," she answered. "It was by a gang." That's all she could remember about the Goblin. And, she had NO idea why he would be called unclean unless he didn't shower, which she highly doubted was the right answer.

Kellen didn't know anything about him, but the rest of the professor's question was more hypothetical so he decided to give it a shot, "He may have got the title from working with foul-smelling materials? Materials that wizards ordered him to work with, like bubotuber pus or something else like that. That would explain the name and his distaste for wizards."

"Urg lead most of the 18th Century Goblin Rebelions" said Barry. That was the easy part

Barry was not creative. This was where he failled. But he tried anyway "Maybe sir, he was called unclean for his bloodiness because he killed lots of people" Maybe? Barry was more of a fact person

"Urg the Unclean was one that was supposedly been ducked in a pond from a group, or gang, of wizards which probably sparked his distaste for wizards. And, I don't know, probably from his rebellion came a lot of 'not so pretty' acts so maybe that's one of the reasons they called him Unclean." That last part was a total guess but it sounded okay to her. For having not payed attention to her tutors, she was surprised with her own knowledge on this topic. And why was Professor Svensson here!?! She barely registered that he was the one teaching...

Cela raised her hand. "It was his thoughts that were 'unclean' to begin with anyway. He was an advocate of Goblins being allowed wands and of course, that isn't something that wizardkind wanted. He thought that if he married a witch, he'd be able to gain a wand legitimately. It was less the want of a wand and more the want of a witch that made his thoughts unclean, professor. He would do anything for Goblin rights, even going so far as to trick and manipulate, have dirty dealings so to speak." Cela smiled at Miranda in acknowledgement.

"Like I said, that was to start with, he began to embrace the name partly in order to hide the origins of it. He wore dirty clothes, was dunked in a pond," Celandine nodded at Emalyn, " And was generally all gross and unkempt. It made Wizardkind even more afraid of him and it built him a memorable legacy at the same time."

Herminny remembered reading about this so she raised her hand and answered, "Urg the Unclean is a goblin who was dunked in a local pond by young wizards and they say that may have triggered one of the Goblin rebellions of the 18th century and I wonder did they call him unclean cause he looked dirty and thats one of the reasons the young wizards dunked him in the lake even though that is a terribly rude and wrong thing to do".

Urg the Unclean.

Well, the answer was pretty obvious, was it not? "Urg was probably some dirty chap with no love for showers or clean clothing." Yup. The name told EVERYTHING.

Nicoletta doodled on a scrap piece of parchment, unsure of what the heck they were doing. Once again, she was lost. Not surprising, she told the proffesor she stank.

Kay took notes as fast as she could. The Professor was taking about Goblins and she didn't know to much about them. 'Urg the Unclean?' She thought. "Maybe he smelled bad. So the wizards throw him in the pond. Not that I'm saying it's right. Maybe that's why he was called that." She answered.

"Wait, he was really called that?" Jack said in astonishment. He had always thought that had just been a nasty nickname they gave him after he was long gone. Whoops. No wonder he had done soooo horribly on this OWL!

AND he hadn't raised his hand...oh no!

His hand shot in the air as he blushed. "Ummm, I know he was on a chocolate frog card because of what he did in the rebellions," he added. He needed to say SOMETHING after that outburst!

What did Evan know about him? "He's on chocolate frog cards..." he said hand raised, though this wasn't much of an information. And... um... "He was forced to do something... publicly... by wizards." Pretty. Oh, he knew! "He was pushed in a pond!" he said excitedly, then calming down, started to decide on his name. "Maybe that water was so dirty that the smell never wore off?" Making up much, again?

Svensson shook his head--not at the answer itself, but at the fact that it was the first answer and, clearly, the thing about Urg that people remembered most.

Svensson gesticulated wildly as he responded to this answer. "That's a very interesting proposition. It makes me wonder--was it the wizards who dubbed Urg "Unclean", or did fellow goblins, or even goblins of a later time, disapprove of his antics and refer to him as such? Other goblins surely agreed with his intentions--but did they agree with his methods?"

Svensson scratched his chin thoughtfully. "That's a possibility. But why would Urg consent to work for wizards, even if ordered, after they shoved him into a pond when he was younger?" Svensson said. "Food for thought."

"That's a possibility, too," Svensson admitted. "If that's the case, maybe he wasn't known as The Unclean until after his time."

And yet another logical, yet unexpected, suggestion. Really. These kids were smarter than most people gave them credit for. "Another interesting proposition. And, like the others, it's fairly likely that there is at least a fraction of truth in it."

Svensson figured they had exhausted the topic of Urg, at least for now. "Let's go back in time a few hundred years before Urg. The goblin Gringott, founder of the bank so many of us trust our fortunes to. What do we know about Gringott? What part did he play in the goblin rebellions, especially those of the 1600s and 1700s? How did Gringott and his bank change history?"

Jack wrinkled his brows. He had had NO idea that Gringott had been involved in rebellions--all he knew was that he had founded the bank. Still, he raised his hand, since he could at least answer part of the question.

"All I know about him is that he's on a Chocolate Frog card too. As far as history goes, the bank changed history because it gave wizards a safe place to keep their money and belongings. It's considered to be one of the safest places in the world, which has definitely helped some rich wizarding families stay...well, rich I suppose...because they don't have to worry about their money being stolen."

"It shows again, how intelligent Goblins are. Especially because Gringott managed to make Witches and Wizards trust him with their valuables despite all the difficulties between Goblins and Wizardkind. He must have offered more than security because I can't see how Wizardkind back then would have easily trusted him. I expect he probably bought the loyalty of several significant Pureblood families of the time, maybe with rare, goblin made goods, encouraging them to use the bank in the way Gringott intended. Maybe he also approached those who had something to hide, wizards who wished to hide and protect their dark artifacts." Cela mused with her hand raised.

"As for how this all ties into the Rebellion, I wonder if Gringott was a part of the Brotherhood of Goblins, those who were trying to negotiate without violence. Goblins like him, who were respected and trustworthy, would have gone a long way toward finding supporters among witches and wizards."

"Well, professor," Ella replied, hand raised, "Gringott changed history by creating a safe place for wizards and witches to keep their money and riches. It's very successful.. I mean, I don't think I could even name a single wizarding bank beside it. Security is very tight.. it's almost impossible to break in. Even though there have been some cases before. Professor, I can't help wondering.. are there other wizarding banks besides Gringotts?" She felt a bit stupid asking, if it was an obvious question. But she didn't know the answer, so why not ask..?

Carter took some notes on the topic. He knew that he should have studied instead of... well, detention.
