Vindictus watched and hoped that the students were up to the task. "The second part of your practial will consist of you flying past obstacles and retrieving four different colored rings," he began and held up the rings that were each the primary color of each house. They resembled the stacking toy rings that Muggle infants liked to play with and chew on. "Without touching the ground with your feet. When you collect a ring, you can slide it on your arm like a woman's bracelet. Once you have collected all four, then you will land back at the starting point."

He used his wand and pointed. Suddenly, a path of bright pink lights appeared. "The path you are flying on are marked by the pink lights. You will be flying over the school grounds, so use caution. When you see the rings, you will have to use various flying maneuvers to retrieve them. Many of you will sustain scratches and bruises today, but nothing serious. Are there any questions before I give the signal to begin?"

Listening to the explanation, JD looks down worriedly at his broom. He wanted to ask if he could use his own broom, but somehow he didn't think that the professor would let him...

Raising his hand, he asks however, "Could I get another broom...?"

Jacob looked around at everyone on the line. This seemed easy, but knowing Vindictus, it might prove to be more difficult then it sounded. He looked down at the rather shiny broom, with his finger smeers now on it. Then he just had to ask a stupid question "Sir, where will the rings be? On the ground? are they going to be floating? or both?" It was dumb but he needed to know so he could be on the look out for them.

"Sir what if we miss one? Do we have to go back and get it before move on to the next or leave it behind?" Kay asked wishing she had her own broom to do this. It didn't sound to hard but..... She knew how to fly well enough but be a beater on the Quidditch would help with her grabbing the rings. You had to have a good eye to hit the bludgers.

Raising her had Marie asked, "Professor, will we have a certain amount of time to get all four rings?" This would be important to know. If it was timed it would make it more exciting than if they could just go at their own pace. "Or is this going to be like a race? You know to see who can get all their rings first."

"Sorry JD, but everyone must use the school brooms," Vindictus replied shaking his head. "Keeps the flying field even because some students have expensive brooms." Then he remembered something else and his blue eyes sparkled.

"There are seven golden rings that are being, um, fiercely protected. If you are lucky enough to grab one, then you can earn five extra points," he added and then addressed Jacob's and Kay's question. "The rings could be on the ground or floating or sitting on something. If you miss the ring, go back and get it." Then he saw Marie's hand dart upwards. "This is not a race. I repeat - this is not a race. I want each of you to fly safely while on the hunt for the rings and learn how to think quickly when a situation arises.

He looked around to see if there were any other questions. "Okay, then! You'll start when I blow my whistle and follow the path towards the Lake. On my whistle . . . one . . . two . . . TWEET!"

Sidney listens carefully to Professor Vindictus's instructions. Sounds simple enough in theory, but flying and grabbing those plastic doughnuts sounds pretty hard. I think I did well in the written and first practical part of the exam. Maybe that will make up for the grade I get in this part.

Miles listened to the instructions. Rings...check...coloured and gold. Hooking one leg over his broom in anticipation he leaned forward waiting for the whistle... Come on...come on..come on..... YES!!!! He pushed off the ground swiftly as he heard the whistle, bringing him back to when he played Quidditch and a huge smile grew on his face. Leaning forward he followed the pink lighted back towards the lake with ease. This'll be a piece of cake!

Listening to the professor addressing him, he winces, he was hoping he could at least have a different school broom. Eyeing the broom in his hand, warily, he mounts it again. "Pleaseeee, behave this time..."

Those gold rings, he knew were absolutely out of the question. He'd be lucky if he could get off the ground with this broomstick, let alone get the four rings they were to find in the first place.

Kicking off from the ground, the broom starts wobbling from one side to the other, gripping the handle steadily, JD looks worriedly at the ground below him. He wondered if it would be ok, to use magic, if he was about to fall off...

Kay mounted her broom and looked at everyone else. She was ready and waited for the Professor to start. She listened to him and was glad that it wasn't a race. She would be able to hard on her flying skills and grabbing the little rings would help her Quidditch skills too. The Professor said only the school brooms could be used and the they had to go back for the rings them miss. Alright she was ready. When the Professor said three Kay kicked off the ground and went to follow the pink lights.

Golden rings! How exciting. Cela wondered what would happen if you got a hundred of them as she kicked off looking for lights. She had perked up a lot at the explanation of the task, though it wasn't the gathering of the rings that made her smile, it was the pink lights. PINK! She smiled over her shoulder at Professor Vindictus and let herself forget about bad stuff for just a little while, her wand securely in her holster and out of the way. She didn't mind not using it, she had broom powah.

Well, school broom powah.

Oh, fiercely protected. By what? Was vindictus really just going to leave them with the. This was crazy, and his heart was beating faster and faster. And the metalic taste of fear filled his mouth. Great all the symptoms of nervousness were upon him.

Then Vindictus was counting. Jacob quickly and uneasily mounted his broom. As he still got situated, the whistle peirced the air. Jacob got comfortable so he would vomit. Then Jacob Kicked off the ground. This time he kick off harder and with more force as though he were in a match. He followed the pink down towards the lake. This was going to prove very difficult.

Jacob kept his eye open and sharp like the eagle he was, and his hand out ready to grab a ring

Okay so this wasn't a race. Marie could do this, she had been waiting a long time to get out there and fly. It was going to be great flying around the grounds instead of just in the confines of the quidditch pitch.

She mounted her broom and waited for what seemed like hours for the whistle to blow.

Finally she hears it.

She quickly kicks off and follows the path of pink lights leading towards the lake as she watches for the four colored rings...... and the GOLD one. That one she will definately be watching for.

They had to gather rings? That was it? Pffft it was soooo a race! Well no, it wasn't, but it would be fun. Were there enough rings for everyone? Or did they had to fight one another to get them? The Professor wouldn't do that right?....ehhhhh.

Lining up at the white line like everyone else, and when the whistle was blown, she mounted the broom and took off, following the pink lights. Find the rings. Find four different colored rings AND keep her eyes peeled for a golden ring. Good and easy enough, right? The golden ring was hers! Mwaha!

It seemed it was not a race or compitition but an obstacle course which was still cool. Upon hearing the wistle Fred kicked off the ground and was off. He was not scared of any obstacles come, he had confidence he could handle it and if not better be in a good mind set then a bad one. Once airborne he followed the lights toward the lake and kept an eye out for golden rings.

No race, whatever. The task still sounded like fun and she was gonna get to take to the skies again so yeah. As soon as she heard the wistle she did not hesitate to kick off and take to the skies. It felt exilerating to be fllying again. She quickly spotter the pretty pink lights and guided her broom a long the path heading for the lake and kept a sharp eye looking for a golden ring.

Tiberius swung his leg over his broom and kicked off from the ground at Vindictus' whistle. Leaning forward for speed, Tiberius was feeling confident in being able to spot the special golden rings.

He took off, following the pink path, bobbing around others flying slower or erratically. He looked out ahead of him, toward the lake, trying to swallow the nerves he still felt on his broom, though they'd gotten better over the term.

Approaching the water, Tibi began to scan the grounds for any rings.

The pink lights illuminating the path towards the Lake suddenly make a sharp turn to the right and follow the well-worn pathway towards the Front Gates of the school.

Hovering fifty feet in the air you notice a huge yellow blur. The closer you get, you notice that there are about two dozen yellow plastic rings bobbing up and down. None of them are staying in one place - they bounce around in different directions the closer you get.

Once you grab your yellow ring, turn around so that you don't fly off the school grounds. Pink lights are illuminating the pathway leading to Hogwarts Castle.

Sidney mounts her broom and kicks off. She leans forward on her broom and pulls the handle towards her, so she can gain some altitude. Sidney pushes her broom handle down until it's horizontal with the ground. This stops her assent. She levels off at about eight feet off the gound. She nudges her handle to the left and makes a left turn. Sidney then follows the path the the lake area.

First ring already? It seemed like they just took off flying! But no matter, she was going to get it!

Oh, oops, sharp turn. Reminded her a lot of the turn she had to take in Care of Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies class when she was racing Lawsguini on that thestral. Except this time, it was easier and she was riding a broom, not an animal.

As she got closer to the rings, she shook her head slightly in amusement at their bouncing and bobbing movement, ready to grab one when she got closer. Juuuust as she was about to grab one...it moved, making the only thing she caught was the air. Seriously? Pulling the broom up so she was hovering, she turned back to look at the rings, a frown on her face before she took around and slowly moved towards them.

Yea, she was going to wait. Going to wait until one of them moved in front of her so she could trap it. Ha! Can't escape now could they. Unless, they knew she was there and avoided he- OH, there was one! With her fast reflexes, her hand shot out and wrapped around the ring that bounced in front of her, making her smile with amusement. Looking around, she placed the ring on her wrist like the Professor said to do before spotting the pink lights heading back towards the castle. This was great so far...

Lifting up on the front of the broom handle, trying to get the broomstick to fly more then two feet off the ground, JD whispers "Fine...you want to take forever to get any of these rings, it's fine by me. The longer you take the longer it takes for me to get off of you."

With that, the broomstick soared upward a little more. "Thank you" he adds, as he directs the broom toward the pink lights lighting the path.

Spotting a bunch of rings above them bouncing around, he pulls up more on the handle. "Come on...I'm not leaving til we get one." Stubbornly the broomstick, only goes up another 10 feet. Sighing JD, bounces himself reaching, and reaching upward to the rings.

Just...just a little more! Arrrrrggghhhhhhhhhh....got it. Collapsing back on the broomstick, he groans. "please, don't tell me I have to do this each time." Knowing the more he tries to explain the simplicity of just letting him fly wouldn't do no good.

Turning the broomstick, he heads down the path lit by the lights, heading toward the castle.

He hadn't seen anything yet. As he continued to follow the pink dots, Tiberius let his mind wander for a moment, forgetting for a moment that he was supposed to be looking for rings.

Caught off-guard by the sharp turn, Tiberius barrel-rolled as he tried to right his course. Spinning, he pulled on his broom to right himself. Slowing a bit, Tiberius brushed his hair out of his face as he followed the path to the rings. Yellow.

Leaning forward, Tibi kept one hand on the broom and stuck the other out straight. He raced for the middle of the pile, reaching out to lace his fingers through one. Snatching it from the air, Tibi flew forward a bit before realizing that the trail of pink sharply turned again to head back toward the castle. Screeching to a halt, Tibi gingerly turned and headed back, following the path.

Jacob tried to fly faster, but the old school broom wasnt doing to well. JAcob sighed then saw the pink take a turn to the front gate. Jacob turned sharply like a bludger was coming at him. There were so many ways this related to quidditch. Obstacles were like bludgers, the turning quickly, was like avoiding them, the golden rings were like snitches.

But Jacobs thoughts came to a halt as he was overwhelmed by the large amount of yellow rings. Jacob's eye was caught by one in perticular. He kept watching it and sped up. He had his hand out streched and was about to take it. He grabbed, but it had moved away too quickly, and jacob went back after it.

After 3 failed attempts at the one ring he was stalking. He finally caught it. Turning Jacob Sped back off following the pink light

Riiiiight.

Since this was not a race, Destiny would be able to fly slow, like always..right?

Mounting her broom, she kicked off the ground and sloooooowly followed the very, very pink path right towards the lake when..the path changed!? Where did it think it was going? Turning sharply on her broom, Destiny edged her broom just a tad bit faster to see where Mr. I'm A Path And I Do What I Want decided to go. And it was heading right towards a bunch of yellow rings.

Well, that was weird. What were yellow rings doing over there? Oh..nevermind.

Edging her broom even faster, she reached the rings, only for them to be bouncing away from her. What the!? They needed to STAY STILL so she could wear one as a bracelet! 'Come here. Now!' she pointed at one of the rings. Of course it didn't come, but it was worth a try. Taking a deep breath, she flew a little higher than where the rings were. Bahaha! Sneaky grab.

Lowering her leg, she floated above the rings and stuck her foot in an unsuspecting ring. 'In yo' face ring!' Carefully she removed the ring from her foot and placed it around her wrist. Yellow was sooo not her color.

Now..where did that path go? Finding the path, she went back to her slow pace and headed towards the castle.

Herminny suddenly saw the pink lights form a sharp right turn and slowed down as she reered in that direction and saw she was heading for the school gate and just ahead were golden blurs and she knew she must be getting close. As she flew closer she saw the rings were bobbing up and down and knew this was not gonna be fun. She quickly flew into on slaught of the golden rings and couple hit her right in the head, OUCH. She then quickly dodged a few rings and quickly grabbed a ring and turned around and fle away from the rings. She then saw the pink lights forming a pathway to the castle and headed there still on the look out for golden rings ready for the next challenge.
