NOTE: For those just joining us, please go to the OOC thread in the classroom and find a dueling partner. Then, you may come back here and practice dueling.

UPDATE: Lesson has ended. Homework is as follows and will be due one week from the date of this post.

Becca saw everyon epick a partner and begin to duel. Hexes and jinxes were flying across the room as charms and incantations and the like were being used to counter them. Now it was Becca's turn to find a partner...

Keeley still had no partner. Zip. Zilch. Nadda. The small curly topped Ravenclaw stood watching, looking for anyone left. She barely even cared if it was a huge, muscley seventh year beater or something, she just needed someone fast. The dirty blonde finally gave up saying, "Does anyone need a partner?"

Whoa, he wasn't wasting any time, the first spell came flying at her quickly followed by a second. Jumping quickly to her left she narrowly escaped being tickled to death while having her legs locked together.

Thinking quickly she shot back at him with "Immobulus". Yes, she remembered that one from her last class. She was able to stop a billywig from attacking her using this, now maybe she would be able to stop a fifth year from attacking her. After all he was a much bigger target than the billywig was.

The shield seemed to work as she didn't feel any boils suddenly popping up anywhere. Thinking she was in the clear she was about to cast a spell back when she suddenly felt herself tripping. Rats, she had been hit but not enough to knock her down.

She got her balance and shouted "Obscuro" the spell flew at his eyes, "Expelliarmus". She hoped he wouldn't know what was coming at him if he couldn't see. Although it did nothing to his hearing and since she didn't really know any non-verbals she didn't think it would really work. It was worth a try though. She knew her best shot at winning this was going to be by disarming him.

The kid looked like a second year.And Sarah sorta needed one of those to try and hex.Yeah...second, third, fourth..fifth...that's three years, right? Maths was never her strong point.

Strolling over towards the Ravenclaw, Sarah put her hand on the girls back in a friendly gesture. "Hey, I'm Sarah," she smiled, "You look like a second year who could do with a partner.And I am a fifth year in need of one too.Wanna pair up?" She stood, waiting for a response, all the while fiddling with her wand still safely stored in it's holster...for now.

Melanie drew up so she was sitting curled up, and almost immediately a shield exploded from her wand once more, as she spoke the word, "Protego", slashing her wand precisely the way Professor Kazimeriz had taught them a while back. This time, the shield was a bit stronger.

The girl actually contemplated hanging out under her bubble of protection for a second... but she knew it wouldn't stay up too long. So she stood again, her bubble turning into more of a shield, which she held in front of her mid-section, so she could move it up and down to try and block whatever got thrown at her. It would probably start flickering again after a minute or so... and Melanie knew this, so she continued to move about. Did it look ridiculous? Probably. Would it be effective? She hoped so.

Meanwhile... "Langlock." Melanie muttered, flicking her wand in the direction of the other girl.

This time Ivory didn't contemplate the possible meanings of the spells that were casted, or fearing for her feet. Straining her ears, while she made her feet move in odds patterns to serve as a distraction, she merely caught the end, '-cio' of whatever incantation Melanie used. Spinning in place and taking a dive to the floor, she was able to dodge at the last minute, hopefully surprising her opponent who still thought she was the victim of the earlier Talantellegra. Agh stupid funny bone. Stupidly she had broken her fall with her elbow.

Glancing up she realized that her trip jinx had worked and Melanie had just fallen.

Using the opportunity to cast 'Muffliato' again with as much intent as possible in case it was wearing off and Melanie was hearing more than just buzzing, she quickly brought up her shield again and was sad to see that as soon as whatever spell Melanie aimed her way hit it, it flickered slightly. Not only that but it hit it with enough force that her small body was even pushed back slightly and she felt an intense pressure.

Knowing it probably wouldn't last too long, and breathing heavily she got to her feet. Melanie was probably watching her as she moved her own shield around her middle section following her wand movements and the light that flashed every time she casted something...her mind whirled for a millisecond. Hmm what could she do that would surprise the girl who as of yet had had beautiful reflexes.

'Your defences must therefore be as flexible and inventive as the Arts you seek to undo.'

Remembering a quote from her DADA textbook and something she'd heard her grandfather shout again and again as he ran her cousins through drills. She decided to take it to heart and be a little inventive.

Deliberately moving her wand in front of her so that Melanie could see her every move, she brought it up in the upward arc with its flick at the end that made it exactly descriptive of the shield charm. Not knowing if Melanie was watching her mouth too, she yelled 'Pro-te-go' very loudly for good measure, however she put no intent behind it instead thinking of stillness, stone, inertness and petrification.

Looking for all the world like she was in the middle of casting a large shield charm, she made sure the flick at the end of the wand aimed straight at Melanie's head as she quietly followed by enunciating "Petrificus Totalis.

Crouching, she readied herself for any possible outcome.

In all her thinking she became momentarily distracted when the swarm of butterflys attacked her. She loved the little creatures up until now, flailing her arms about in an atempt to protect herself. She flicked her wand up and shouted,"Protego!". Shielding herself from the insects she pointed her wand back to Kellen,"Rictusempra!" before she turned it to the butterflys,"Immobulus".

Upon hearing him yell Levicorpus and knowing she didn't have time to get out of the way she tried to get her shield up but wasn't fast enough. Suddenly there she was hanging upside down for everyone in the class to see. Good thing she had jeans on under her Slytherin robes or she would definately be embarrased by hanging there.

Oh no you don't.

"Protego!" Kellen blocked the tickling charm immediately. There was no way, no how he would be breaking down into giggles in this class. Although having her cast that did seem to be an official signal that this wasn't to be a hardcore duel like the one at the front of the class.

He cast the langlock spell at her and followed up with a jelly-legs jinx, thinking absently to himself that he should cast that second one on himself next. Did jelly-legs counteract locomotor mortis? Points to ponder...

Carefully, Raiden lowered Marie down a bit, moving closer until he could catch her. He'd hoped she'd block, but... well she was only twelve. There wasn't much to expect of someone so young. Leaning her against the wall, he flicked his wand at her again.

"Reenervate." Kneeling next to her, he watched for her to come around, feeling (and looking) guilty for even having knocked her unconscious in the first place. "Alright there?"

Daphne's wand was out and so was a troubled frown. Initially, she wasn't willing to duel anyone less than 13 years old. That didn't seem possibly though, as all the third years seemed to have been busy. Tilting her head at the second year, Daphne cleared her throat.

"My name's Daphne, by the way," she informed, rolling her shoulders. "Don't think too harshly of me, okay? I'm not the greatest dueler. Are you ready?"

The girl had gone to her knees, so at least one of Kiri's Impediment jinxes must have managed to pass through the shield. She also had a somewhat helpless look on her face. "Sorry, sorry!" she called out, flicking her wand to release the girl's tongue so she would be able to speak again.

Kiri gave the girl a deep bow in return. Straightening up, she waved her wand again on long, slow movements. The floorboards began repairing themselves, splinters creeping back to form solid wood. With an encouraging nod, Kiri wandered over to where the girl stood. "Are you okay?" she asked, pocketing her wand. "You're pretty good, you know."

Brushing off her robes, Kay looked up at Kiri. "Yes I'm ok. Just could block all three of them." She said smiling at Kiri. "Thanks, I use to duel with my dad for fun." Thinking maybe shouldn't have said that. "Weird?" Turning to watch some of the others. "Kiri, is non vebal magic hard to learn?"

Marie slowly started to wake up not really knowing what had just happened. Opening her eyes she seen Raiden right there next to her looking like he had just done something terrible.

"What happened? How did I get down here? The last thing I remember was hanging upside down." She rubbed her head making sure she didn't have any lumps. For all she knew she could have fallen and knocked herself out. That would explain why she couldn't remember anything beyond hanging there.

...had he ever been stunned before? Raiden wasn't sure exactly how it felt. Surely it didn't hurt, right? People did it to each other often in duels. It seemed like one of the more innocuous spells.

"I tried to be careful... I didn't hurt you or anything, did I?" He had landed one spell before the last two, but it hadn't been anything bad, so surely she was alright, right? Why was she rubbing her head? Worryyyyyyyy.

Arya was slightly dissapointed when Kellen blocked her spell, she wouldv'e loved to see him have a laughing fit. She felt his first spell hit and dissolve her weak shield. Dodging away from the second spell she threw up another shield, stronger than the previous.

As she turned back to him she cast another spell,"Expelliarmus!" The first year continued to move, but not to much as she didn't want to tire. "Tarantallegra!" She refused to use any spells that would bring any harm to Kellen as this her first duel and wouldn't know what to do if something bad did happen to him, not that she knew many spells that could bring him harm. Plus this was just class, they were here to learn not to harm.

"I tried to be careful... I didn't hurt you or anything, did I?" He had landed one spell before the last two, but it hadn't been anything bad, so surely she was alright, right? Why was she rubbing her head? Worryyyyyyyy.

"Oh well at least I didn't hit my head." She didn't feel any lumps on her head so that meant she didn't hit it, right? "Oh yeah, non-verbals, I forgot about those. That was pretty sneaky of you" she said with a little giggle.

She stood up and started moving her body around to make sure everything still worked. Not feeling any aches or pains she said "No, you didn't hurt me, see I can move." She started wiggling her fingers and shaking her arms and legs.

She looked up at him with a evil little grin. Maybe this would be something she could use to her advantage if he ever caught her doing something she shouldn't be doing. Not that she ever did anything that would get her in trouble.
