Professor Duskurk stepped into his classroom and banished the desks and chairs. It was standing room only for this class... NOTE: For those just joining us, please go to the OOC thread in the classroom and find a dueling partner. Then, you may come back here and practice dueling. UPDATE: Lesson has ended. Homework is as follows and will be due one week from the date of this post. Quote:

Barry sighed as Herminny repelled his spell. She wasn`t so bad. But Barry had no time to think because before he knew it he was lying on the floor binded up. He could still flick his wand so he did the only thing he could do. He sent stunning spell after stunning spells towards Herminny racking his brain for the spell that would free him.

With a quick flick of her wand she non-verbally renewed her shield before cocking her head slightly to the side. Now it was time to play... "Stupefy!" Then she started wondering where she was and what was going on. Highly confused, Nicoletta looked around. I'm...I'm........Oh dang! suddenly remembering where she was and what she was doing, Nicoletta concentrated. Come on, you've seen a non-verbal spell, just try it! As a precaution, she put up another sheild. "Protego!" She concentrated as hard as she could, Petrificus totalus, petrificus totalus, petrificus totalus, petrificus totalus... she felt her wand jerk as though it was about to cast a spell, but no such occurance took place. Instead, she used one of the many spells her brothers oughtn't have taught her. "Muffliato!" she said. That'll have to work instead. "Petrificus Totalus!" |

Smiling up at the boy she was glad he at least wasn't a skilled dueler like Cela. Of course being a Ravenclaw his definition of skilled was probably different from hers."I'd love to be your partner!" She began to get nervous about the duel as she flicked her wand out of its holster. It had taken her a while but she had finally found the wrist holster her brother gave her, she figured this was the best class to be wearing it.
As she walked a few paces away from Kellen she nervously twirled the wand between her fingers, turning to face him. As she turned she went through the spells she knew deciding which one to use first. She didn't know a many spells, but the ones she did know were good enough to duel with. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath, focusing all her attention on the duel. As she opened her eyes she pointed her wand at Kellen,"Locomotor Mortis!" As the spell headed towards Kellen, she slid quickly to her right, to avoid his oncoming spell. "Great." Kellen put as much enthusiasm as he could into the word, but it still didn't sound quite genuine. Dueling was for people with something to gain or something to prove. He didn't really have either.
Truth be told, Kellen could count on one hand the dueling spells he'd been taught. First and foremost among them was Protego, thankfully, but the rest weren't exactly spells that screamed victory. More like whimpered 'retreat and let someone else do this'. Time to expand the arsenal?
...and now his legs were locked. Apparently they'd started. As Arya slid to the right he glanced down and muttered, "Well, shoot."
Not a fan of hopping, he flicked his wand in two decisive movements, first calling, "Papilio!" and following with "Oppugno!" He hoped Arya didn't have a fear of butterflies. And maybe he could figure out to move his legs again while they fluttered in her face. |

"FINITE." Pointing at her leg. Bring the wand up and pointing it at Kiri. "REDUCTO!" shooting at the floor under Kiri feet. She jump forward over the ice and sent the second Hex. "VENTUS!" And a strong wind came out of the end of her wand. She hoped that Kiri's sheild would be down. When this was over she hoped she would remember how to fix the floor. Well, Kiri's little tactic had sort of worked, but she hadn't expected the girl to catch on so quickly. Or her powerful Reductor Curse. The floorboards under Kiri's feet practically blew up. Long fault lines appeared in adjacent planks, cracking the ancient wood and its cover of varnish. A fleeting thought (Uh oh, I hope we can fix those) bounced through Kiri's head, but she was hardly paying attention.
There was a sudden stab of sharp pain in her left hand. She glanced down - a long splinter, probably from the floor, had pierced her skin. Kiri shook her hand to dislodge it, and that moment was all it took for her to miss that the girl was casting another spell. The jinx caught her head-on, and Kiri struggled to stay upright on the broken floor against the strong gusts of wind. No! she shouted inwardly, putting her hand up in front of her eyes.
Without being able to take proper aim, she flicked her wand three times in quick succession, casting two silent Impediment jinxes - one aimed high, one low - and... " Langlock!" With her tongue glued to the roof of her mouth (assuming it worked), Kiri hoped the girl wouldn't be able to do much anymore. Surely, as a second-year she couldn't yet cast non-verbal spells, right?
As the spells flew towards their target, Kiri jumped backwards a few steps until she could feel undamaged floor beneath her feet.

Marie had been standing around watching everyone else dueling instead of trying to find a partner for herself. Now she was left without one, how was she suppose to practice without a partner. Looking around again she still did not see any older students that were partnerless.
Knowing the professor probably would not like it if he caught her just standing there she decided she better try to find someone to help her. Not that she really wanted to duel an older student, she really didn't want to end up in the hospital wing. Oh well, here goes. "Are there any 5th years that want to duel with a 2nd year?" The professor would probably let her duel a 6th or 7th year too but she really didn't want to have to do that. It was going to be bad enough with a 5th year.
Now to just wait for someone who still needed a partner.

Someone three years younger? What did anyone stand to learn from dueling at that age gap? The younger students didn't know as many spells, wouldn't it have been better to have a smaller difference?
In any case, it wasn't his decision. He was just a student.
"I still need a partner," he said quietly, holding one hand up in answer to a second-year's call for a fifth year. "As long as you don't mind dueling me."
Great. Now he was going to be shooting spells at a 12 year old. |

| Granddaddy Ravenclaw | | Jermione Granger Oh hey, look. Someone blew up the floor. Tibi flicked his wand upward, whispering as he did so. "Protego." He held the shield in front of him like a barracade, tilting it slightly so that he could raise it like an umbrella, too.
Piece of floor bounced off of it as he watched the others duel. Letting the shield drop once the rain of floor ceased, Tibi thought about his duel. Non-verbals... better reflexes... stronger shield. He made a check list of all the things he would need to improve.
But he still kept an eye on the rest of the room. It was only a matter of time before an errant (or intentional -- he looked over at the Slytherins who seemed to hate him) hex made its way to his corner.

Somehow this whole...THING was waking the sadistic side inside her. Which was sorta, well, scary but exciting as well. Poor Nicoletta. Well, at least she wouldn't be tempted to try anything extreme with a fellow Slytherin. Not that she would with somebody else. Hopefully.
Smirking Nancy waved at the younger girl as she turned on the spot with a highly confused expression plastered across her face. Teehee... So that Confundus Charm had hit. Well, OF COURSE it had. Oh, she apparently had found out that she was not in Madame Puddifoot's but indeed in DADA class. Shame the charm didn't have a longer effect...
The way Nicoletta was now staring concentratedly on her wand without saying anything made Nancy suspect that she was trying to blow up something. Or somebody. Uh...eek! In the end she probably decided against it - maybe the image of Nancy blowing up was too gross after all - and decided for a Muffliato spell. Which was...quite clever.
Straining her ears to understand the girl's next words Nancy almost missed the jet of light which came flying towards her. Almost. It was coming closer....and closer...and closer...with a quick flick Nancy strengthened her shield and watched the light bounce off of it. That was close. "Densaugeo!" Well, THAT would give her some necessary distraction. With yet another smirk she flicked her wand at the girl again and sent a non-verbal Disarming Charm hurtling at the girl. |

Her bag, lying a few metres away, had given her an idea...
But just as she was about to cast the first spell, she noticed that there was nothing coming back from her opponent. A fervour had gripped her (not unlike that of the Quidditch Pitch) that made her feel as if her whole body was electrified, and it was very difficult to think clearly and not just react...
The girl had gone to her knees, so at least one of Kiri's Impediment jinxes must have managed to pass through the shield. She also had a somewhat helpless look on her face. It took Kiri a moment to figure out what was wrong. The tongue-tying hex, of course! "Sorry, sorry!" she called out, flicking her wand to release the girl's tongue so she would be able to speak again.
Kiri gave the girl a deep bow in return. Straightening up, she waved her wand again on long, slow movements. The floorboards began repairing themselves, splinters creeping back to form solid wood. With an encouraging nod, Kiri wandered over to where the girl stood. "Are you okay?" she asked, pocketing her wand. "You're pretty good, you know."

Great. Now he was going to be shooting spells at a 12 year old. Hearing someone say they needed a partner Marie looked up to see who it was. Oh, it was the Slytherin Prefect, what was his name? Ra... Rand....oh yeah, Raiden. Well if she had to duel an older student at least it was someone from her own house. Maybe he would go easy on her, hopefully. "Um sure, I'll duel with you." She just hoped she would be able to do this. She started searching her mind for spells as she took her wand out of its holster. "Umm, ready when you are, I guess." Right, who could ever be ready for this? "Oh, I'm Marie by the way." Might as well let him know now who he would probably be sending to the healer.

She knew a few stupefies would break and by that time she hoped Barry would be back to himself so the duel would not come to a pathetic end. With that she thought stupefy after stupefy about 5 times and 5 stupefys came out of her wand one after another aimed right for Barrys shield.

Whichever he thought of first. Chris had been watching Jake pull himself back together and had almost forgotten to block the oncoming spell. Right at the last second he threw up a sheild and he could feel the effects of the stunning spell slightly. Either his shield was very weak or the boy had created a very powerful Stunning spell, probably a little bit of boy. "Good one Jake!" he said shaking himself a bit to get back in the game. "Locomoter Mortis!" he yelled as he did the wand movement in the air.

Eeeeeep!! Nicoletta dodged the spell and in her haste, flicked her wand upward thinking langlock. She felt her wand fly out if her hand and back behind her into a corner of the room. She slid across the floor and retrieved it. Only when she got back, did Nicoletta realize that she had preformed a non verbal spell. I did it! she thought excitedly. Okay now how, did I do it? she tried to repeat the motion with no luck and decided to perform it verbally, she had the muffliato spell up anyway. "Protego! Expelliarmus!" Nicoletta felt something wet and sticky on her knee. She realized that sliding across the floor had ripped her robes and she was bleeding. She pointed her wand at her robes "Reparo!" Well, at least now there was something to soak the blood up.

He then looked down, he quickly thought of somehing and Yelled "Incendio" while pointing his wand down at the boys feet.

Chris was about to send another spell at the boy but the flames came and the Prefect tried to step back in time, but was too late, for his left shoe caught fire. he pointed his wand at it quickly doing a non-verbal Aguimenti charm. his foot was extinguished.
So the boy wanted to do feet spells then Chris yelled, "Duro!" pointing it at the little Ravenclaw's feet.

She just hoped she would be able to do this. She started searching her mind for spells as she took her wand out of its holster. "Umm, ready when you are, I guess." Right, who could ever be ready for this? "Oh, I'm Marie by the way." Might as well let him know now who he would probably be sending to the healer. With a quick, almost unnoticeable flick, Raiden loosed his wand from his holster and held it at the ready. All he could hope was that... this wasn't her first duel ever, and that she knew enough spells to do alright.
"Nice to meet you Marie, I'm Raiden," he said with a tight smile. "Although a better situation would be desirable."
She was ready, so... he'd start.
"Rictumsempra." He pointed that spell towards her abdomen, and followed it up by pointing toward her knees. "Locomotor Mortis."
He'd steer clear of non-verbal spells for now. Surely she'd have enough problems with the ones she could actually hear. |
