And then Miranda was pulling her forward, and Wesley thought they were going to mount the horses then and there, but they weren't. They were only putting on the riding gear.

Safety First! Nervously giggling, she selected a smaller sized helmet and plopped it on her head, which was still hooded. Fingers fumbling with the clasp, Wesley gladly accepted Miranda's offer, holding out the ties for the older girl to clip.

"M-miranda? S-sarah? Oliver?" the 13-year-old whispered, hoarse, "D-do y-you think I-I c-could m-maybe, p-perh-haps, p-please ride w-with one of y-you?"

Woah! Nervous midget huffie.

Oliver turned to the sound of Wesley's tiny leetle voice and looked down at her with a broad smile on his face. “Have you ever been horse riding before, Wes?” He asked her. Cos it had to be like that, right.. even if the things were invisible. As long as you knew the basics, which Oliver did, you'd be ok.

He took a pace back and collided with the Thestral he had been feeding. Ooops. He turned and.. er.. looked at the space where it should be. “Sorry.” He muttered and reached out a hand to pat it. It nuzzled it's snout against it's hand and Oliver laughed gently. This was well weird.. but also kind of cool.

The smile faded and he looked back at Wesley. “C-can you see them?” Had she been one of those to witness death? Given what he had heard about the hufflepuff deaths last year it wouldn't be surprising if she had. *shudder*. Was Hogwarts always so... eventful? He looked at Prefect Sarah wondering if she could see them - Wesley may be better off sticking with someone who could actually see what they were doing here.

Ah, so the thestral was a male, that cleared her mental image of him even more.

She glided her hand over the creature until she found his mane and gently took hold. Then she carefully steped into Lady Lawson's hand, "I'm ready."

"Alright, on the count of three, I want you to stand up on your left leg and swing the right one over the thestral's back," she said, making sure she had a firm grip on Ayra's foot. "One... Two... Three!"

Dylan spotted Lawsonette helping someone on the invisible horse. "Um Professor. I can help, if you want to sit down. Take the weight off your feet." She did look a little peaky, and pale. "You feeling ok Professor?"

Fira 03-18-2010 02:44 PM

''Professor Mrs. Lawson!'' stopping laughing at the male Lawson he ran to the female one when he saw her helping a Hufflepuff to ride a nothing...a Thestral. She might want to help him too! YAY!

''Professor Mrs. Lawson!''
he repeated again loudly and cheerfully. Hehehehhe ''I want to ride too. Could you please please please help me? I can't see them. You are seeing them, right? Can we ride it together?'' *Puppy eyes* Ohh she was huge but he was sure they would be both fine on a Thestral. There could be enough space for both of them. Or for the three of them or wah! Maybe Thestrals were small!

"Um I don't really want to fly. I was ok, when we were just playing Polo. But this is up in the air." Ok yeah he was scared. But he had Gold to look after him right?

He didn't want to ride with her?

Gold frowned. Why was it that, despite everything, she always felt like Dylan... didn't really like her? No, not that. Everybody liked her, right? She had awesome red hair, and she was pretty. Not to mention, nice. Maybe vain too, but then again, everybody has their faults, right? It was more as if he... didn't really care. The feeling had been getting stronger lately, and he did nothing to make it go away. Nothing.

... and she still couldn't help feeling like she was Queen of the world or something, when he was with her.

Darned love.

"That's okay," she said. She hadn't been going to let him fall, you know. But if he didn't want to ride with her, it was okay, it really was and ... okay, fine, she was not happy about this!

Rawrr!

"Thanks, professor!" Gold beamed at Professor Lawson, managed to stop thinking of Dylan for more than five seconds, and stepped up to the Thestral she had fed, earlier.

He knew her, now. She had a love for animals, and they loved her back, most of the time. But that really wasn't why this one seemed to recognize her, right now. It was because she had, well, fed him, and not too long ago, either. Animals tend to remember that!

Well, not Thestrals, maybe, but it hadn't been that long ago, you know. Five minutes only.

"Hi there," she said, in a very soft, very gentle voice, reaching out to stroke the skeletal creature. He let her, and then she had eased herself on to its back. It felt different, and yet so familiar... just like the last time she had climbed on to one. But this was class.

She half-smiled, leaned forward a bit, and then she was ready to take off. Into the open air.

Wesley, kinda, shifted her eyes so she could see Oliver, still holding her head and hands steady for Miranda. Unable to shake her head, she whispered, "No. Never ever in my whOLE entire life," then, after a itty bitty pause, "Have you?" Frowning in thought, Wesley decided that he had, because he was older, and therefore, automatically knew everything. It never occurred to the 13-year-old that some first year, like Aaron or Sidney, might apply that same rule to herself.

Still watching him as he backed away, the Hufflepuff let out a small, frightened squeal when the older boy collided with the air. Eyes the size of engorged Pygmy Puffs, Wesley quickly squeezed them tight, even though she couldn't see anything. They were that close to her the entire time!? If it hadn't been for the straps she was holding, she would've felt around her space for any other Thestrals. Or maybe not, since she didn't want to touch one.

Peeping her eyes open when Oliver spoke again, the teenager shook her head violently, "Nonononononono-oops! Sorry Miranda!" Holding her head steady once more, Wesley asked back, voice solemnly hushed, "C-can you?"

SPOILER!!: Professor Lawson (the man)

Here's a lesson for all you kids out there.

Don't fly on the back of a thestral with your eyes closed.

Marcus couldn't do it. He just couldn't open his eyes while he was in the air. He had only managed to fly once and that he did for Iliana but it seemed that it wasn't going to be a regular thing for him.

So with his eyes firmly shut, they hit the third turn and it was a sharp one and he was quite unprepared for it. Perhaps if he had of had his eyes open he probably would have saw it coming. As it was he didn't and so he was about to pay the price for it.

Because the turn was so sharp the thestral tilted downwards and Marcus felt himself slipping sideways. He made a grab for the thestrals mane but it slipped through his fingers. His hands flailed around him but it was no use he was sliding off before the thestral could right itself.

There was a few seconds there where he felt like he was suspended in mid air and then the air was rushing passed him before he hit the ground. Lucky he had placed a cushioning charm on the field otherwise that would have hurt.

His body bounced a couple of times and he had enough time to look up and see Evelyn cross the finish line. Marcus laid back down and groaned loudly, he was never going to live this down.

But Wesley never waited around to hear the answer. As soon as it had escaped her lips, the most awful thud was heard. Twisting her head around to the sound's source, forgetting to hold still, she gasped in horror at the sight of Professor Lawson (the man) lying down in the mud.

Scrambling over to the paddock, the Hufflepuff scaled the fence and then

fell, into the dirt below. It was no matter, however! She scrambled up and ran over to the steadily growing crowd.

SPOILER!!: Professor Lawson (the lady)

She flinched when he hit the ground and quickly waddled over next to him. Smiling down, she rolled her eyes, shook her head and asked, "What in heaven's name did you think you were doing?"

Her hand found its way to her stomach again but she quickly played it off by brushing away some imaginary dust. Then she leaned forward to help Marcus up.

"P-professor L-lawson," Wesley asked between breaths, "Is P-professor Lawson going t-to be alr-right?"

He didn't look alright. He looked de- oh wait. No. That groan meant he was living.

Right?

He watched her climb on it. Great she was going to leave him behind. Oh well. He could pet one. He stuck his hand out in thin air, and pretended to stroke one. He was only stroking thin air. Probably looked stupid, but he didn't care.

Oliver had to strain to hear the little whisper coming from Wesley. He nodded his head to her question. “Once. When I was eleven.” He replied to the wee girl. “So I'm no expert but I know the basics.” Shrug. “But this looks fun, don't you think?” Judging by the look on her face: No.. it did not look like fun to her. heh.

Oblivious to the squealing Wesley, Oliver turned back to face the group. His Threstral seemed just fine. In fact, Oliver probably got more of a shock than it did. His eyebrow raised at the wee Puff and her repeated use of the word 'no'. Right so she couldn't see them. Damn. She might have been of some use here. He was about to open his mouth to answer her question and she was off!

He looked at the other professor.. the heavily pregnant one who was busy helping one of the students onto her Thestral. Oliver was petting his scaly horse so he knew where it was, and in case it decided to move away from him. “Professor? Surely if we threw some paint at them we'd be able to see them?” heh. “Jus' it would make this class a little easier for those who are unfortunate enough not to be able to see them.” His Thestral made a sound at this comment which sounded very much like a protest.

Pfft. It didn't understand. Pure coincidence.

He was herrre!

Look after him? Aww. AWWW. "Of course, DyDy," Gold said, with a chuckle, as she held out a hand, and helped him up. She could not really, not when her hand was rather tiny compared to his, but at least he would manage to get on, would he not?

Right so he swang his leg up. Hopefully over. His foot collided with the side of the horse. Ooops not high enough. He rebounded off with a stumble. He stretched out his other hand, and tested the height of the horse. Pat pat pat! There it is. He jumped and stretched his leg to the height of where his hand was. Ok one leg on. He pulled himself over.

He grasped tightly onto Gold's waist. "Ok I'm ready."

(He should have been the Flying professor then not Muggle Studies) But how was he going to it when he was not even able to see where the Testral things were?

'Pfff...anyway keep watching the race' Evelyn seemed to be doing a good job, no she was doing a great job. And she won! SHE WON! Despite that annoying girl who was cheering against her, more for Lawson. ''WOOHOOO!'' he yelled too incredibly loudly and clapped his hands as fast as he could till he looked around to see the professor's expression which made him burst into laughter ''BAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!''

Evelyn had heard the cheering and laughing as she went back over to Lawson to see if he was alright, and now looking back over, she saw that Josh was the one making all the noise. He watched the race? Well, it was a pretty good race wasn't it...

Course it was! She was in it! Smiling, she waved slightly before looking at who had now arrived by them.

Ohhh was Lawson in trouble or something? *insert completely long snicker* Should she tell the Magical Creatures professor about the bet that they had? Would surely explain the 'did you think you were doing' part. But, nah. She didn't want to get into trouble either by the lady Professor since she didn't know how quick and emotional she could get as of yet. Maybe Evelyn should stop being so oblivious in this class and actually pay attention at times?

Well, right now she wasn't oblivious, and had been watching the Professor since she first got over here. Miiiggghhhttty suspicious of that hand movement to the stomach right there, but she couldn't be sure of anything. When was the Professor due anyways? Ugh, she could NOT believe there was going to be a little copy of the Lawsons running around.

Seeing the Professor try to help Lawsguini up, her first instinct was to go and help her help him. But when she was juuust about to reach for the Professor on the ground, she pulled back and took a step away. What was she doing? Helping Lawsguini?! EW! But, the other Professor needs help right? Eh... moving back over again, Evelyn was just about to help one more time when she pulled away once more and moved back again.

She couldn't do it. It wasn't worth the Professor Lawsguini germs on her hands that she would surely have afterward so instead, she through her hands up and went back to the thestral, rubbing it's back gently as she waited for the Professor to get up off the ground...

"Of course, Ivory. Just PLEASE be careful." She smiled at the little Ravenclaw and started towards her, just in case she too needed assistance.

"Can you get on?"

Ivory smiled excitedly and felt the urge to dance a little jig. This was awesome...beyond awesome...this was...well the awesomeness was not really starting yet since she had to get on first.

"Oh thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'll be careful," she lifted up her hand in the air. "Scouts Honor... Well she actually never really been a scout but it was the thought that counted in a promise right?
"Ummm I don't really think I can do it alone. If its not too much trouble, may I have a ... boost up?"

Nodding her head hopefully, she watched Lady Lawson help Arya onto hers and realized that well being quite she'd probably never get up there on her own. Unless it bent its legs a little and bowed low to the floor. But she doubted it would do that to her since it'd barely met her.It...it? No animal deserved to be ambiguous in that way...it wasn't a blob or a clown.

She'd been just about to ask its gender when a race between Evelyn and Sir Lawson ensued. Wide-eyed and excited she watched them take the turns and then take to the air automatically bring her thumb up to bite her nail. She didn't really know who to root for she she ended up just cheering for both. That is until Evelyn crossed the finish line which is when she gave them both just big thumbs up and started bouncing on the balls of her feet excitedly. Maybe I'll get to race today too, she thought as bounced on the balls of her feet slightly her hand running through the invisible mane.

Her strong grip on the black horse did not loosen until they came to a complete stop and she was sure that they were not moving. With her shaky breathes, she slowly sat up, staring down at the neck of the thestral with complete awe and shock. That...was...

AMAZING!

A smile inched it's way onto her face, as a bubble of laughter started to fill her. No broom in the world could compare with flying a thestral! Wait wait wait. Who won!? Looking around, she saw Lawsguini's thestral walking around in front of her, but no Lawsguini. Was he already off the horse? Eh, he was probably going over to celebrate with Professor Morgan and Kay or something. She lost didn't she... Looking back to the frightening turn, shaking her head slightly since she could still feel her heart pounding in her chest, her laughing would now definitely have to wait for the moment.

Evelyn suddenly spotted something, or someone, laying on the ground, and it looked a lot like Lawsguini. And he was waaay over there. Which meant...SHE WON!

"WOOOO!" she cheered, suddenly holding her hands up in the air as the realization finally struck her. TAKE THAT KAY! Pffft, forget Lawson and the fact that he could be hurt...she WON! No, no wait. That was wrong. She had to go and be nice and see if he was okay didn't she? Ugh. But it was so boring compared to celebrating and planning what she would make the Professor do for a day. Lowering her arms, she sighed and directed the thestral to go over to the Professor, but her smile continued to grow until it really was the biggest smile she ever had worn. Which wasn't much, but it was still something.

And finally the giggling and laughter started when she stopped next to the relaxing Professor on the ground. Sliding off the thestral, she stood there next to him, her breathing still a little shaky, and she was trembling, but..still, she just stood there over Lawson for a few moments; smiling and taking in the victory. Until she had to speak of course. "You don't like to fly, do you."

It was more of a statement than anything. Yea, she had seen his eyes closed while in the air.

He closed his eyes but there was a smile on his face. It had been fun there for a while except for the whole flying part part of course. He could have done without that.

As he laid on the ground, Marcus was counting in his head and he had managed to get to fifty before he heard Evelyn's voice. Surprisingly it didn't have that gloating tilt to it but he was sure that was still to come.

He opened one eye a crack and snorted, "What makes you think that Evelyn?"

Oh he had wondered how long it would take before he heard his wife's voice and he looked up at her with a sheepish look as he took her hand. But he managed to get up himself without having to pull on her too much.

He stuck his hands in his pockets and kicked at the ground, "Trying to get a baby sitter for the day" he finally answered and giving her a cheeky grin. And then he suddenly pointed at Evelyn, "It was her idea to fly."

And yeah he could see a lecture coming on, hopefully his wife would save that for later.

Marcus looked at Wesley who seemed to be covered in mud and he raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything about her appearance. "I'm fine everyone. Just fine. Except for the flying part that really was awesome."

He took his wife's hand and started to walk back towards the start line so that he could give the students a hand but as he passed Oliver he paused and leaned over to the boy, "I let Evelyn win you know. Thought that would make her happy" he said in a low voice.

Mmhmm, the man was slightly deluded.

Arya was completely oblivious to all that was going on around here, all her focus on her thestral and Lady Lawson. Once she reached three, Arya stood on her left leg and swung her right leg over the thestral."Thanks Lady Lawson!" Grining from ear to ear, she made herself comfortable on the theastral, both hands griping his mane. It was a little wierd for her though, not being able to see the thestral she was sitting on but somehow it made the experience more exciting.

After about five seconds she grew board of just sitting there and was ready to ride. Her grip on his mane tightened and she slightly leaned forward to speak to her thestral."Alright boy, let's blow this popsicle stand!" As if she had spoken the magic words, the thestral galloped off and around the paddock. Arya was having the time of her life riding through the trees and around the others at full speed.

They were about to fly when she noticed that Ivory had yet to get on her theastral. Whispering to her theastral the galloped over to her friend, slowing to a canter as they got closer."Hurry up slow poke, so we can fly!" She yelled as they passed her only to circle back around riding near Ivory. As much as she was ready to get into the air, she would wait for her best friend to mount, and not a second more.

Kay giggled when Professor Lawson said his ego was battered. "Sir I wouldn't worry about it. I think you did great." She said walking back to her Thestral and hoping on. "Next time, Keep your eyes open. Because flying is really great." Kay said turning her Thestral and taking a running start an up into the air. "You can ride with me next time." Kay yelled back. Turning to fly around the paddock she loved being in the air.

Destiny stood and just stared at Lawson. She wasn't allowed to ride the thestral by herself because she couldn't see them!?

So not fair.

Other people were riding them by themselves. Unless they could see them.. But that was beside the point. She didn't care what they were doing, or the fact that they might have been able to see the thestrals. If she wasn't allowed to, no one should. Humph.

She must have dazed off for a moment there, for next thing she knew, Evelyn and Lawson were racing around the track. She would have laughed at this, but she didn't want to. Nope. She was in the middle of sulking to herself, and didn't want to have any part in this so called "fun".

Stalking over to a spot where she was sure she wouldn't get hurt, Destiny plopped her behind there and just sat. She would not turn away from the grass she was staring at, not even if she had heard something about male Lawson falling off a thestral.

Too busy sulking.

Ooo, is that a SPIDER!?

"How about we ask one of the professors how we are supposed to get on this thing," she said pointing to the air. Yeah, he would totally have to get on first because well......she still didn't know where the thing was.

"There's this little nook right by their wings." Carter said taking her hand and putting it on there. "It'll be like just getting on a horse." he said. "Maybe I can get on first and show you where to put your foot and then you should be able to tell where to sit from where I would be." he said. Yeah... that sounded like a good idea to him.

Marie laughed a little when Carter told her where the little nook was. He could tell her all he wanted... Oh, he grabbed her hand to show her...Okay so now what was she going to do with that knowledge? She still couldn't see it.

What, it was going to be just like riding a horse...she had never ridden a horse so how was she supposed to know what that was like?

"Umm yeah, you better get on first, that sounds like a good idea to me." She wanted to see how he was going to get on something that was eight feet tall. Yep, in her mind these things were HUGE.

Evelyn smirked and laughed slightly. It didn't take a genius to see Lawson didn't like to fly, but she decided she would be good and not say another about.

Instead, she turned around, her shoulders shaking still from a combination of laughter and trembling from nerves, she guided the thestral back over to where everyone else was, petting it's back gently. Too bad she didn't have anymore raw meat to give the horse. It, well she, totally deserved it! That flying was amazing!

And she was completely unaware of what Lawsguini just said too one of the students about 'letting her win'. She would totally argue on that if she heard it! But alas, she was too busy thinking up ways of what she would make him do for a day...Mwaha!

Spotting Destiny, Evelyn patted the horse's back one last time before making her way over to her friend who was...sulking.

"Hey." she said, about to sit down next to her but spotting a spider there instead. "Hey umm..."

Yeaaa....could she please kill the spider?! It was RIGHT THERE! "You know...there's a creepy eight legged demon right there right?" SQUISH IT! BURN IT! "You going to move?"

LilFox06 03-19-2010 01:22 AM

Carter put his foot in the little nook and then swung his other leg over the thestral. He shifted and settled himself in until he was comfortable.

"Alright... put your foot right here." he said patting the spot again. "And then grab my hand and get on just like I did." he said reaching out his hand to her.

Mina glanced around at every one on the thestrals. She wanted to ride, but there was a part of her that told her it was best to just keep both her feet on the ground for now. Getting on the back of a creature, she could hardly see wasn't at all wise in her mind.

Finding a spot on the ground, where she was sure to be safe, she sat down. Maybe she would see her little snake friend there.

Marie watched and laughed as Carter got up on the Thestral. He made it look so easy to just float there in the air. Yep, that's what it looked like to her, he was just floating.

She put her foot where he was pointing then reached out and grabbed his hand. Okay, now to step up and swing her leg over to the other side. Other side of what though? Other side of thin air?

Not hesitating any longer she finally did it, she swung her leg over nothing and sat down with a small thump. Whoa, that felt strange. She looked down and it looked like she was just floating there too yet she could feel that she was sitting on something. She put her arms around Carter's waist and held on tight.

She didn't know why this seemed so scary. She wasn't scared like this when she was flying on a broom. Then again she could see the broom....and the brooms others were flying on too.

Taking a deep breath she said, "Okay, ready to move when you are." *hug Carter a little tighter*
