Evelyn had no clue as to what the Professor said, but it probably meant that her theory on how the moon was created was wrong. Perfect... Eh, it was a theory anyhow. She herself didn't necessarily think it was right. Writing down a few things here and there in her notebook, after a few seconds she lost track of what the professor was saying and instead, started drawing little moons and suns at the top of the page. Finally she got over her obsession with drawing dragons. And it only took one Astronomy class to do that?

Spotting the little bag of every flavor beans again, completely forgetting about them, since Destiny didn't want any she scooted it back over to her side. She wasn't a big fan of the candy, though they could be useful somehow for her own amusement. Maybe slipping a nasty one to an enemy..."If you're sure then." she smirked at her friend before going back to doodling planets.

Lucy was sitting at one corner on the class listening to what Professor McFarlane had to say about the second theory which was Capture hypothesis, she was listening attentively to the professor, but then her eyes went at the girl sitting beside her

"Hey, I'm Lucy" she whispered to her as she didn't wanted professor to look at her as she was a bright student in class.

Isabella was sitting almost in the corner of the class.she silently listened to the professor.she took down the notes as and when the professor spoke.she had made notes on the axis, and the theories and all that she heard.Astronomy was sort of her weaker subjects and she was going to pay proper attention in this class,this year.

Carter took some notes. This was much more in depth than anything he had learned previously. Not that he learned too much. "Astronomy" wasn't exactly a subject in muggle elementary schools. And he was sure nobody, like him, learned anything last year.

Arya looked up from her notes with a confused expression on her face. Nothing the professor was saying made sense to her so she raised her hand."Professor, are you saying that all the theories we have about how the moon came to be are false?So which one is true and why do we still have have them if they're false?"Looking back to Sabel Arya made note to sit next to him in the next class.

Bella sat near the middle of the class, silently taking notes with her quill, and cursing herself for not reading up on the subject before the lesson. Looking round the class she took in the other students features

Becca made note of all of what was said and jotted down what she thought was important. The moon was one of her favorite topics, but everyone had already said what she'd been thinking, so she sat back and listened to them. She didn;t really believe the second theory, but the first one seemed alright.

Then, she thought of something and raised her hand, "Which theory do you believe Professor? I'm really not quite sure of them but I think I favor the Giant impact hypothesis. You know, the one where a meteor left over from the creation of the solar system hit the Earth and tore out a whole chunk of it. And meteor and the chunk spun around in the area around the earth, was caught in the earth's gravitational field and eventually formed the moon?"

Mina continued to jot down all the important things she thought would be helpful. She did like stars and the moon, but she never really did understand it all fully. This would great opportunity to learn more since last year, she didn't learn much aside from how to make paper telescopes and write bad odes.

Ooooh. Wesley thought her head was going to explode. Or her heart.

After learning the disturbing information there was not, in fact, a man on the moon, the child had attempted to move on. But she couldn't. How many nights had Wesley said, 'Good night, Mr. Moon'? It was like losing a best friend.

And it didn't help that there was this huge moon floating around, causing her to wince every time she found Mr. Moon's face.

Ooooooh.

The tiny Hufflepuff neatly wrote down notes as the teacher spoke, guessing on spelling. Apparently, the moon was not made of cheese either.

Wesley was so confused.

Allison had been so engaged in her writing and note taking that she missed a couple of questions. Nonetheless, when the professor asked about where the moon came from Allison, for a first, was hesitant to answer. Suddenly Allison overheard a boy say...

And Allison gleamed. Those were exactly her thoughts! Well, not really. She was young enough not see romance anywhere. In her opinion the moon had been a part of the earth, and when a large mass of who knows what, possibly an asteroid hit it the moon, it pulled away from Earth. Thus, it is nearby and has a sort of gravitational pull. However Allison did not see or hear any of the romance when Chaucer spoke, so immediately she thought him brilliant.

Turning around to see who spoke she was surprised by her sight. An effeminate man with fashion screaming from his robes. But how was that possible...when they were school roles. Noticing he was sitting near Sabel, her heart shrunk. He was probably the cousin to Kellen. Frowning Allison began to take notes once again, and for the first time noticed Arya had already arrived. She kept missing her, and lessons absorbed all of Allison's attention.

Allison nudged Arya and whispered, "Dunno when you got here but most theories are just that. Hypotheses gone crazy, and muggles saying they are theories. If a wizard or witch said it must be true. She's just saying that that specific theory is unlikely. And I agree." She had never had anything against muggles, Allison had lived among muggles! However, when it came to the educational standard she thought that muggles had not yet experienced the knowledge some witches and wizards carried.

Emily had been sitting quietly in the back of the room for the lesson. She had been taking notes, getting more confused every time the professor spoke. Now she looked up, complete and utter confusion on her face. She noticed Allison and Arya sitting directly in front of her. She must have missed them, since she had been writing most of the time. "Hey guys," Emily nudged them. "Do you understand what she's talking about?"

Anastasia had been in the back of the class, furiously taking notes. She hadn't looked up from her notes ONCE. This was interesting! However, her head snapped up when she heard familiar voices. "Allison! Emily! Arya!" She was overjoyed. All of her friends were in this class! "Hi guys! Isn't this interesting?"

Merlin's Beard! Allison hadn't seen either Em or Anastasia arrive in the class room. Obviously her notes needed all of her attention. Looking down to her notes she drew a smiley face next to her title: Astronomy the Great Art of Earth's View of the Beyond --> : D

However she ruined her happy face when Em and Anastasia spoke. --> :Q They were in class! Oh please Professor McFarlane, dun notice! Usually when Allison was learning she became a different person altogether, and at that moment with Arya sitting next to her, and her other two friends far behind, Allison wanted to take off each of her Italian flats and shuck them towards each girl. She couldn't risk losing house point so instead, when she heard them she gave them a stiff nod. Surely after class they could go hang out somewhere else.

But right now. Class. The Stars. Planets. Galaxies. Professor McFarlane. Came. First!

Allison had always been an overly passionate girl when it came to school, and for sure, her friends were discovering that. Perhaps that was why her mother would never admit to Allison that the past year at the muggle elementary school she actually came second, not first. Yet according to Mrs. Scott, Allison would only find out over her dead body.

Thana reviewed the billion notes she had just taken. She nearly raised her hand, but then remembered. "Professor, couldn't the moon have been formed when the Earth was, during the Big Bang, and they were close enough together for the moon to be in the Earth's gravitational pull?" she said, in response to the question about how the moon was formed.

Aha. So Allison was one those studious people. Normally, she was too but not necessarily with things that didn't require wands or spells. She certainly understood what Allison was feeling. At least she assumed she did.

Helena busily scribbled into her notebook; she was on her second quill already, having accidentally broken the tip of her first when she went to fill her inkwell.

No matter. She'd just go to Hogsmeade at the first chance she got and purchase some more--lots more.

She felt so behind in this subject--she had been to muggle school, but it never prepared her for this sort of learning curve. She supposed she had better start studying if she wanted to be at everyone else's level.

While the professor was engaged in conversation with other students, she flipped back over her notes, trying to learn them by heart and commit them to memory.

Arya looked up from her notes when someone called her name.Looking back she saw it was Anastasia, she seemed to have missed her when looking around.Not wanting to disturb class she smiled back to her friend instead. Arya never was one for talking in class, especially now that she was at Hogwarts. Turning to Emily she shrugged her shoulders and shoke her head. Emily's guess was as good as her's. Then she heard Allison speaking to her but didn't catch a word trying from all the disruption that had just taken place. So she turned back to the professor and notes to try and pay attention. She started to swing her legs as she wrote, begining to feel a bit restless.

Satine raised her hand, "Professor, I know we're learning about our moon and stuff, but how come only some planets have moons?" she asked kind of staring off into nowhere trying to think of the answer to her question as she asked it.

She was awaken from her daydream and thinking about the question by some younger students talking/whispering during the lesson. She instantly glanced around to insure that they weren't Ravvies...if they were she was going to throw one of her heels at them....okay so she really wouldn't do that for fear that it would hurt her yellow heels, but it sounded like a good plan before she truly thought it through...what a predicament wondering which was more important loosing points or harming a pair of heels..that was a major dilemma in her mind.

She gave each of the younger students a friendly glance to let them know that they weren't supposed to talk during the lessons and then turned back around to hear the answer to her question.

Candy raised her hand. "Professah!" she said. "I agree with some of the other students. I really think that something BIG hit the earth really long agooo, and that threw out LOADS of hot materialstuff from the outer layers of both objects. The material stuff floated around in space and gradually stuck together to form the moon. That would explain why there's a lot of rockstuff in the moon."

Rock was TOTALLY tasty.

At least it looked that way. Like sugar.

Nyx sat quietly on one side of the classroom, diligently taking notes on everything being said. For all the nights she'd spent staring out her window as a child, she really didn't know that much about astronomy...

After she was done writing, Nyx noticed some of the other students whispering, making a mental note to herself to spend more time in her dormitory later that night so she could actually get to know the other first year Ravenclaws.

Maidee looked around the room in shock. "Calm down, children! I haven't even touched on the other theories." She quickly put the candy away, assuming that was the cause of the uber excitement.

The Moon would have formed from material surrounding the proto-Earth, similar to the formation of the planets around the Sun. Bella sat in her seat furously writing notes on her paper, hoping she didnt miss anything. Looking up for a second she put down her quill and placed her chin on her hands

A Mars-sized body (labelled "Theia") is hypothesized to have hit the proto-Earth, blasting sufficient material into orbit around the proto-Earth to form the Moon through accretion. As accretion is the process by which all planetary bodies are theorized to have formed, giant impacts are thought to have affected most if not all planets. Computer simulations modelling a giant impact are consistent with measurements of the angular momentum of the Earth–Moon system, as well as the small size of the lunar core. Picking up her quill again she scribbled down what the professor next said. She sighed, her eyes a little sleepy from the lack of sleep the night before, but she fought it. Bella began to think of a question she could ask that wont sound stupid, she came up short.
