The first year began to scribble in her notebook. "moon....Earth four times bigger Katherine looked up again waiting for the professor to continue. She was to her surprise actually enjoying this.

Candy began to write down what the professor was saying. HOW NICE!! Candy loved this class already. It was like SUGAR!

Totally you know.

Catching sight of a rather frantic wave and enthusiastic smile, Sabel turned his head a little to see what was going on. Oh. That explained it. Allison was in the class as well. Not wanting to be rude, but not particularly wanting to look like he was disrupting the class either, Sabel gave her a smile and nod that said 'we'll talk after class' before turning his attention back where it should be.

Watching her students dutifully taking notes, Maidee continued on:

"Because it has no atmosphere to protect it, space rocks – meteorites and asteroids - have smashed into it, causing craters. Sometimes people see things with the craters, usually giving tale to the "Man in the Moon" myth.

"How does the Earth's atmosphere protect it from meteorites?"

Wanting to do good in this class, Marie started taking notes as soon as the professor started talking. Not doing so good last term she knew she was going to have to work harder this term to get a good grade.

Fia sat for a moment looking around the class. She felt a little dumb as she really needed to sit in this class but felt the need that she should go to the advanced class for later on.

Beginners...Advanced...little firstiessss...older studentsssss.

Advanced.

If she needed help, she would ask the professor at another time. She quickly gathered her things and headed out the door. GAH! Her face was extremely red from the blushing.

Katherine raised her hand hoping to be called.

Evie raised her hand a little scared.

Allison sat up straight and rose her hand eagerly.

"Most meteoroids disintegrate when entering Earth's atmosphere," Candy said brightly with hand in air. "You know the Mesosphere, professah? I've heard it's this layer about 80–85 km above the Earth's surface and there are gas particles there and they collide and create lots of heat and burn up MILLIONS of meteors everyday, before they can reach us!"

Exciting eh?

This is why, they needed an actual teacher last year. She barely had a clue as to what this answer was. "Doesn't the meteorites just, burn up when they hit the Earth's atmosphere?" Or something like that. 'How, am I going to use this info. in the future? Like Muggles Studies...pfft.'

Katherine turned to the girl that gave the answer and said "you know you're supposed to wait to be called on" then the frizzy haired girl turned away.

Allison eyes widened. The girl had said her answer out of place. And for that girl's information there was soooo much more to add. With a frown on her face she waited to see what the professor would say. If this was the way it was going to be, she at least now knew people could speak without being called on.

Maidee watched Fia grab her stuff and head out, "I'll see you next week" she called softly, not wanting to bring more attention to the girl's quick exit.


"Oh dears, dears! No need to raise hands unless I ask you too!" Maidee gave a twinkling laugh, "You all may have a sweetie, if you like," she placed several pieces of candy in front of the three girls. How charming!

"Oh, my, you're an excited one, aren't you? Yes, that is very true, very good! Have a chocolate frog" she tossed one to the girl.

"Yes! they do. Yet, if the meteorite is big enough, it doesn't burn all the way up. Have some every flavor beans," she placed a bagful on the table in front of her.


"Now, here's one not in the reading material (ooc: which I did not post this time, so no worries on that!). What is the difference between a meteorite and an asteroid? I'll take the FIRST correct answer to get a special prize."

Kellen raised his hand, "Does a meteorite have a tail? And an asteroid doesn't?"

"A metroite survives the passage through the earth's atmosphere while an asteriode oribit the sun" piped up Katherine with a smile.

Candy shook her head, grinned at the girl and then raised her hand again. "A meteorite is kinda like a meteroid right, professah?" YUM YUM CHOCOLATE FROG! "Only, it survives its passage through the atmosphere and impacts the earth's surface. But an asteroid's just this small, inactive rocky body orbiting the earth."

Carter knew this one. "A meteorite penetrates Earth's atmosphere while an asteroid stays in space." he replied.

Sighing Allison answered, "Meteorites come from asteroids. Asteroids are the whole che-bang. Meteorites are...sometimes just parts of whats left. Asteroids are composed of rocks, carbon or metal...orbit the Sun. And Meteorites are those that survive through the Earth's atmosphere."

Katherine began to look annoyed...now really this girl was just nerve racking...she looked soo hyper. She really doesn't need anymore candy thought the first year nodding to herself.

Staring at the bag of every flavor beans that was in front of her, she raised a brow at it before raising her hand again. "A meteorite is when a meteor makes it through the Earth's atmosphere while an asteroid...yeaaa." someone already said something about it so she decided to just stay quiet for the moment.

Every...Flavor...Beans. Turning to Destiny for a split moment, she scooted the little bag over to her, smiling a little. "Want some?"

Her first lesson at Hogwarts is Moon. Amazing!

Vida tossed her hair and taking in Professor's brief explanations about the natural satellite Moon. She had seen it through the telescope twice with his brother back home, in France. It was a wonderful experience for her, personally.

Meteorites, asteroids, atmosphere, yep, Marie needed to do some heavy duty studying if she was going to keep ujp in this class. Listening to eveyone answer she keeps taking notes hoping not to miss anything.

Damon knew quite a bit about this since he had a lot of knowledge already in astronomy concepts raising his hand he said "Professor meteorites obviously can survive impact when they come in contact in the earth while asteroids depending on their size large or small can hit the earth as well. asteroids can rotate around other bodies in the universe."

"Very good, Allison!" She handed the girl a coupon she had been given


"An interesting tidbit is that the only reason the other satellites of other planets are called 'moons' is because of our own moon. It passed on it's name and definition.

"The spacesuits that astronauts wear are heavy and difficult to move in. It's basically another person on top of you. However, the gravity of the moon is so weak, that it's easy to walk around in. The reason for the heavy suits is because the radiation from the Sun is very dangerous. In fact, it's dangerous for us here on Earth, imagine how much more dangerous it would be without an atmosphere to protect us, and being much closer than we currently are." Maidee shuddered, her skin was the kind that easily burned as it was, she did NOT want to lose the precious atmosphere.
