Gold got out a bit of grid paper, and got down to work. This was the easy part. But Arithmancy was a good subject, one she liked to work at. Numbers, they were fun.

Jake took out the paper and started writing:

Candy quickly scribbled on her grid paper.

Ivory let out a sigh of relief at being prepared.

Taking our a sheet of grid paper, she printed her information clearly at the top left hand corner.

...right. They were actually doing something. Raiden scribbled out the things on his paper that the man was asking for...

Nymphy got out his paper and wrote on the top

He then sat and waited for more instructons.

"For the Arrows of Pythagoras we use a 3x3 grid which fits the numbers 1-9 within it. Starting in the bottom left corner and working bottom to top and left to right we end up with a grid like so." Crispy drew a grid on the board.



Then he filled it with the numbers 1 through 9.



"The top row relates to the mental plane, the middle row relates to the emotional plane and the bottom row relates to the physical plane."

Sidney raises her hand. "Sir, how do we determine what numbers to use and where to put them?" She writes down what the professor has said while she waits for his answer.

So....this looked a little confusing. Normally, Demetria was ahmazing at Arithmancy. It was, after all, her favorite subject. But this looked a bit more challenging then what she had done before with Professor Shakleton.....where was she, anyways?

Sooo, all they had to do was copy that grid down? Well, that seemed easy enough. So far so good...


Yup...So far so good.

"We will in fact get to that in just a moment." Professor Crispe answered.

The recipe for disaster was this man as a teacher, because he didn't understand fully what he just said, still, he said what he did, which was to copy those grid things.

Jake watched the professor then started to copy it down. EEEK he was already confused.

Righto!

Gold dipped her quill in ink again, and copied down what was necessary. They were still at the easy stuff. Of course, it was just as important as the tougher bits, because it was the basic.

... and, obviously, if you didn't have a good grasp of the basics, you might as well drop Arithmancy.

Nymphy copied down the aove text ontp his own grid parchemnt. This was his first Arithmancy lesson and chose to listen rather than try to interject his knowlege as he usually (considering he had very little knowlege and didn't even know what Arithmancy was). At this thought he raised his hand, "Sir. I am sorry to interupt, but for us firsties. What is Arithmancy? What kind of magic does it deal with? Becasue many of us have never been to a class before." he said politly. He hoped that the Professor would answer his question and not be mad. It was a lagidimate question and of real concern to the class. To further his politness, he added, "Thank you sir..." andhope he was not yelled at for asking.

Riiiight. Hopefully this professor just let's them copy everything off the board. That would be easy!

Sigh.

"Would an older student please briefly explain what Arithmancy is for the benefit of the first years?"

Really. We are just a substitute. If students merely paid attention they would soon enough learn what there is to be taught. Crispy sat at his desk and drummed his fingers against the surface impatiently.

She quickly jotted down what she need in so far.

There she did it. Now the next bit. She quickly looked up at the Professor, to her he was a tad bit scary. She shivered and wrote the next bit down.

There she was done.

"Sir, Arithmancy is the study of Divination through numbers."

Demetria raised her hand. "Arithmancy is the study of numbers and how they can tell us more about ourselves and about what our future holds for us." Alright, so that wasn't the greatest answer, but it was a decent one.

"Arithmancy..." she started, setting her quill down and propping her head up against her hand in a bored manner. "Is the study of numbers and their magical properties. Each sum of numbers you produce, using the numbers corresponding with the letter of your name and or birthday, usually tells about your personality, strengths and weaknesses. And... a few things for what you may expect in your life down the road."

"Not precisely divination but thank you." Crispy answered in a slightly clipped tone.


"Ah there, good answer thank you." Crispy smiled jovially at the young Gryffindor.

Well.

That was thorough. And an excellent answer.

"Thank you. Now if you will all pay attention we can move on." As in, no more pointless questions because we are twitchy and may take points.

Twitch.

Now they had to add this chart. Well it seemed simple enough so far.


Yeah, Marie was just going to let everyone else explain what arithmancy was. Really, you would think the first years would have looked at their book a little to familiarize themselves with the subject before coming to class.

Ivory carefully used her ruler to draw out neat little boxes and labeled them accordingly.




Looking up as people began to give definitions of Arithmancy, she made sure to copy it all down on her separate notebook even though it was all material that had been in her textbook. It was shame they weren't going to use that book for this lesson, so much for reading ahead.
