Maidee was still irritated by the immaturity of the Slytherin class. Taking a few deep breaths, she cleared her mind and opened her lesson door for the older students. The ones that would REALLY be challenged today.
She set the supplies on the tables and took a seat in her chair, going over the lab she had set up for today. |

Oooh, it was his turn to do something again. He let her take the paper from him, and looked at the instruction sheet. He was pretty sure that he understood that step. And if he didn't, she could just fix it for him. hehe.
He drew around the outline, and then drew a line from it. "This good?" he asked before even bothering to pick up the protractor. This was nice. Because it looked like they were definitely getting somewhere. Somewhere good, Gold hoped.
"Great, Mr. T!" she told Torin cheerfully, as she focused her attention back on to the light meter. At this moment, she was more thankful that she had taken that photography course, than she could tell in words.
Of course, one could use a wand for this, too; but the muggle experience did not come to her often, not when she was a pure-blood, and that was why she opted for it, any time that she could.
Not to mention -- learning new stuff was always a plus.
She noted down the new reading and, on comparing it to the older one, found out that the two were not the same. That was no surprise, though, not really, given the difference in the position - tilt, rather - of the graph paper, for both the readings.
With a cheerful shrug of sorts, the fifth year tilted the graph paper another ten degrees and, while Mr. T held it, traced the circle, and drew a line from it. Picking up the protractor, she noted down the new angle, and carefully wrote it down in their lab notebook.
Then, turning back to the light meter, she recorded the brightness of the light inside this circle, too.
"Mr. T!" She beamed up at Torin. "I'll tilt the graph paper another ten degrees, and you can trace another circle." He would have to measure its angle too, of course. The brightness, though, that she could measure. She was, after all, the one who knew how to use the light meter.
Twirling a strand of red hair around her index finger, she carefully tilted the graph paper exactly ten degrees - a total of thirty degrees, now - and waited for Torin to start tracing. |

And sure enough she did a few moments later.
He watched as she tilted the paper another 10 degrees, and then traced the circle as she asked him to.
Okay, that was easy.
He then used the protractor to get the angle and recorded it even though that was Gold's job really. |

Once she had taken the reading, measured the brightness of the light inside the outline, Gold noted it down - the reading, not the outline - and, that done, proceeded to close their lab notebook.
For a moment or two only, of course.
"Tilt the graph paper?" she asked Torin, looking up at him through her bright, green eyes. "Or would you rather trace the circle?"
She didn't want to be bossy, you know. It was just that he looked a bit clueless, and it was clear this was not his strongest subject. Or, at least what they were doing right now, was not what he was the best at. Still, that did not mean he didn't have a choice.
She was here to work with him, not give him orders or anything. So she half-smiled up at him, and waited.
Mmm. |

Mmm. Torin had a feeling that Gold was trying not to take over too much here, and he really appreciated that. Not that it had been bugging him really since he was bad at this stuff. If they were talking about planets, he would be okay. But these angles and shadows and lights and other weird things sorta confused him. "I'll tilt, Miss G." He took a hold of the graph paper and tilted it just right so that she could do her thing. |

"Righto!"
Gold watched him tilt the graph paper ten degrees and then, dipping her rather fancy quill in pink ink, traced the circle fashioned by the light. That done, she drew a line from the circle, and laid down her quill. Yep, it's work was done, for the moment.
Protractor time!
She reached out for the protractor, set it down, and finally measured the angle for the outline.
Flipping open their lab notebook once more, she recorded this new reading, turned to the light meter yet again, and checked the intensity of the light inside the outline. That, too, she wrote down in the lab notebook. Oooh, it was full of readings, now!
You could tell Gold LOVED numbers!
Half-smiling at the sudden thought, the fifth year quietly removed the graph paper, set it to one side, and attached a new one.
"Looks we just came full circle, Mr. T," she said, with a grin. "Back to where we started from. I'll hold the graph paper this time, if you like? You held it, last time." It was only fair he did not have to, every time. That would get boring for him. But he could, if he wanted to.

"How bright?" Uhm... well. It was... bright. Of course. Fairly bright? He made a note and looked at Lina. "Alright. Next step is..."
The next step was on his handout, which had... disappeared. Hmm. |

"What do you say?" Torin watched her work and was rather glad because it seemed that they were like done now. He wanted to be done because this class was giving him a headache and he didn't like that. Headaches weren't cool.
But no, she had to kill the mood. "You mean we have to do more of this?"
He gasped, not even answering her. He didn't want to do this no more. |

"Mr. T!" She gave him a bit of a look. "Did you, or did you not, read the instructions?" Honestly, he looked adorable when he was all clueless, but they had work to do, here!
Which they could NOT do if he acted this way.
"Here -" She adjusted the graph paper until it was vertical, and had no tilt, and handed him a quill. "Trace the circle and stuff, okay?" There was no angle to be measured, this time round. Maybe Mr. T would like that?
Maybe now they could get some work done, too? If he didn't run out of the class or something, that is. Not that Gold thought he would. But, then again, what could she say? He was a boy -- and boys?
They were strange. |

"That's fine, Mr. T," Gold gave him a smile. It would have been worse if he had not been honest -- pretended to know, and then messed up stuff. Or something of that sort.
But back to the light meter, now. Gold used the device to note down the brightness of the light inside the outline, then tilted the graph paper an exact ten degrees.
"You have to trace again," she told Torin, cheerfully. He would have to measure the angle too, this time round. She glanced at their lab notebook, as she spoke. It would be all full of numbers, by the time they were done.

Hehe. He was happy that she wasn't making fun of him now. That's part of what he loved about her; she was really nice.
He traced again after she tilted the paper and recorded it in the log book. "Well, at least this is mostly just tracing. I'm good at that."
And this probably made him sound stupider. |

She turned to the light meter as she thought, made a note of the brightness of the light inside the outline, and noted it down, right next to where he had written the measure of the angle.
"Hold the graph paper, please?" she asked Torin, as she straightened up. She was getting tired of switching between the graph paper and the light meter, the graph paper and the light meter, the graph paper and the light meter, the ... you get the gist, right?
Hehe.

FREEEE!
Umm, at least her hands were. Gold quickly let go of the graph paper in her eagerness to do something else - anything else - than hold a piece of paper in one position, and picked up her quill.
She traced the circle, and then measured the angle and the brightness of the light inside the outline, both of which she recorded in the lab notebook. Then she waited for Mr. T to tilt the graph paper another ten degrees and, once that was done, repeated her earlier steps.
That is, she traced the circle, and made a note of the appropriate angle, as well as the reading that the light meter gave.
ANDD!
Her turn to hold the graph paper, now.
"Here you go," Gold smiled at Torin, as she relieved him of the graph paper, and tilted it another ten degrees. "Quill time for you, Mr. T." She glanced at the quill a little to her right, as she spoke.
He had to trace the circle, draw the line from it, and measure the angle, now. That was okay, right?
Right. |

Right. Torin let her do her thing, and then took the quill back from her when it was his turn again. At least he was starting to get the rhythm of this thing. It was very repetitive.
He traced the circle and drew the line that he was supposed to. Then he took the protractor and measured the angle, recording it. |

Mr. T was done? Gold looked up, gave him a nod, and focused her attention on to the light meter, yet again. She would not be surprised if she emerged super-duper knowledgeable about the working of a light meter, from this lesson. She had never used one this much!
Okay, maybe she had.
But really!
With a shake of her head, she measured the brightness of the light inside the outline, and noted that down. There.
"Full circle version two," she grinned up at Torin, as she removed the graph paper, placed it on top of the first one, and attached a third graph paper. Thank God this was the last graph paper! Not that she did not like Astronomy, but this was getting a bit too repetitive!
"Your turn to hold the graph paper?"
If he wanted to. |

They were finishing this graph paper now. And he was happy as he watched her put the sheet on top of the first one. There was only one left. w00t! "Sounds like a plan, Miss G." He took the paper and got it ready for her to do her job. |

"Thanks!"
Wait, what in the name of Merlin's cat with yellow, bunny slippers was she thanking him for? Um, forget it. Gold shook her head, then picked up her quill, and dipped it in pink ink. Pink!
Because pink was fun.
Carefully but quickly, she traced the circle and stuff and, reaching for the light meter, recorded the brightness of the light inside the outline. In their lab notebook, of course.
"Tilt the graph paper ten degrees, please?" she asked Mr. T, giving him a friendly smile as she waited for him to do so, then traced another circle, drew a line from it and, picking up the sole protractor allotted to them - not that they needed more - began to measure the angle.
That done, she noted it down, and turned back to the light meter, which she used to - you guessed it - measure the brightness of the light and everything. That reading went down in their lab notebook, too. There.
That, at least, was all done.
"Your turn to trace," she chuckled at Torin, as she took the graph paper from him, and tilted it another ten degrees.
You know what?
She wanted some chocolate!
Hehe. |

Hehe. He raised his brow. Why was she thanking him?
But it was okay. He smiled at her and watched as she put pink in on the quill. "Pink, Miss G?" That was cute. hehe.
He let her do her tracing and then took over for her. It was his turn to trace again. YAY.
He drew the circle and then adjusted the paper again before doing it again. She wouldn't mind him moving it for her he was sure. She was cool like that. |

Of COURSE, pink!
"Pink is fun," Gold grinned, as she watched him trace. Oh wait, he did two readings! Well, that would just speed things up, of which Gold was glad. She gave him a little nod and, when he was done, handed him the graph paper. Her turn to trace, right?
"Ten more degrees," she told him cheerfully. Ten more degrees for the tilt, that is. But he would know that, already.
Gold waited for him to adjust the graph paper, then traced the circle, drew a line from it, measured the angle with the help of the protractor, and took a note of the brightness of the light inside the outline - yay, light meter! She noted down both the readings in their lab notebook.
And ... Good gosh!
"Do you realize we're done tracing?" Gold asked, laughing lightly as she removed the graph paper, and looked up at Torin, once more. She had been getting tired of doing the same thing, over and over again. They could finally move on to something else!
"Phew!" |
