Mina hurried into the classroom and found a seat near the front. She hoped she wasn't at all late for the lesson. She was actually looking for to the class this year and didn't want to mess anything.

Pulling out some parchment and her quill, she smiled to her professor. She looked tired, but she was sure being a professor was after all a very tiring field.

Jack was nearly late for class, but as he entered the classroom he smiled when he saw that class hadn't started yet. WOOOOOT! That had been CLOSE.

Poor Professor Lupa looked really tired...he always felt sorry for the professors when they looked like that. He couldn't even imagine what it must be like to TEACH a class while wanting to pass out at the same time.

"Good day, Professor Lupa," he said with a smile, taking his usual seat near the front as he pulled out his things.

"Thanks. Dalanie right?" she asked. Nicoletta pulled out a quill and set it on the desk.

Satine hurried into class. As she entered, she smiled at the Professor, "Howzit! Professor" She paused for just a second and then headed towards a seat towards the front of the classroom.

"Hey Mina," Ella smiled, waving to her. "Excited for the lesson?" she asked. She had been to a couple classes of Ancient Runes before, and found it quite interesting. She took out a pen from her bag and set it out on her desk, ready to take notes.

"Hey, Jack!" Ella called, seeing her former Quidditch captain. Now he was the Head Boy for Gryffindor Good for him. She hadn't seen him in a while, and wondered what he'd been up to over the summer.

Hmmm...there were family familiar faces, just like that Mr. Jake Stutters, ha ha, Rose was a genious and there was Rose herself!! Of course sitting with Destiny as usual, so he was walking to where they sat as an idea of new strategy hit him. He did not know if they saw him or not but it worth trying anyway then grinning at himself he took an immediate right turn only to...

...sit beside a Ravenclaw girl who seemed to be alone, just for now. ''Hi'' he greeted the girl happily as he set his bag on the desk next to her. ''Do you happen to have a spare notebook?''

"Nooooo," the boy whined, making himself niiiiice and comfortable using the desk for a pillow as he spoke. Man, it looked like he'd have to beware of Tibi. He was like... another mother.

He'd focus when class started. Sure.

Aaaand for now, he'd ignore that icky little potion. He didn't need it after all. He was fine.

"ATCHOO!"

Thank God she wasn't late.

What with all the drama in her life, Gold was finding it rather hard to concentrate, or remember class timings. She frowned to herself as she looked round the class, and waited for it to begin.

At least she wasn't late.

Meh.

"Hey Ella," Mina smiled and waved back. "Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to it. Such an interesting subject." For some reason she had been thinking about it. She was even contemplating making herself her own set of runes.
Mina turned her head at the sound of something on the desk. "Hello," she smiled to him. It was just Josh, she remembered him from last year and from some of her other classes this year. Pulling open her bag, she reached in and pulled out another notebook. "Actually, I happen to have an extra," she said as she handed it to him. For some reason she had tossed it in with her things while she was in a rush this morning.

Evan entered the classroom, panting. He had to ran all way up here from Slytherin Common Room. But he wasn't late. He never was. Duh.

He sat down somewhere, not really caring who he sat next to. He wasn't late, and that was it.

Carter entered the classroom. "Hello Professor." he said happily taking a seat near the front. He waved to Mina, Ella, and Josh. He liked this class. It was pretty interesting.

Marie looked up when someone sat next to her. "Hey Evan, glad you made it to class." she said with a smile. Having him in class with her made it so much more enjoyable to be in.

''Hey! You are great, thanks!'' Josh exclaimed happily and winked at her as he took the notebook. Now what he was supposed to do to find the red quill in his bag which was going to be a hard job. One needed to have the skills of an archaeologist if they wanted to safely dig something up from the insides of this messy bag of the Gryffindor boy. ''A-Ha!'' he said with a satisfied smile once he found the quill ''This took some time, ha?'' the boy pronounced while scribbling something quick in the notebook on a random empty page. Once he was done, he ripped the page off the notebook stuffing it into his pocket before he gave it back to her. ''I hope this was okay with you'' he did not know if she liked pages being ripped off her notebook after all, hopefully there was Carter (he smiled at his housemate as he waved back at him) and he might save him from a possible girly anger attack.

Ohhh, ancient runes, how I....dislike you so.

Technically the only reason Sarah hated the subject of ancient runes was because she was EXTREMELY BAD at it.Her opinion would probably be different if she could grasp it at all.

Wearily making her way into the classroom, she was at least happy to see she wasn't late.Having trekked all the way from the other side of the castle, she was worried about that. "Good day, Professor Lupa," she smiled, taking a seat near the back, in the hope that she wouldn't be called upon.

Oh, had Evan sat next to Marie and not greeted her? He must have looked like a jerk. "Hey Marie." he said with a smile. He also realised he hadn't greeted the teacher. He offered her a little smile and wave immediately. Talking of who, she looked really tired. Aww...

Sidney walks into the class. She notices Professor Lupa. Who could not notice the professor. She looks like death warmed over. Of course Sidney knows Professor Lupa is a werewolf. It was in the Daily Prophet for weeks. That doesn't bother Sidney. She thinks dragons are great, so why would she be afraid of a lil ole werewolf. Sidney is concerned as to why Professor Lupa looks so bad. The full moon is at least a week away. "Professor Lupa, I know it's none of my business, but is there something wrong?"

Sidney then hears someone sneezing. She looks around to see the boy who is quickly becoming the bane of her existence. It figures. He was soaking wet the last time I saw him. "God Bless You," Sidney says to Jake. She hopes he gets better, and maybe decides she isn't a threat to him either. He looks like he could use a friend.

"Yeah. Totally fine," Tibi said just a bit sarcastically. "Take the potion, Jake. Geeez."

What was up with him? He'd been so happy the other day and now? Besides being sneezey, something seemed wrong. Tibi frowned and leaned his head on his desk, too, looking over at his friend.

"Jaaaaake..." She warned.

"Hello my dear." She said and stiffled another yawn.

She smiled at the boy... smart lil kid.

"Hello to you, Master Carter." She said with a tired smile.

"Nice to meet you Miss Evans, Welcome to Ancient Runes." She said.

"Miss Black, always nice to see a new Slytherin in my class..." She said thinking of the point race.

"Morning Miss Westwick," She said happy to see her books out.

"Miss Bennett," she said in greeting.

"Head Boy Fritzera," she said smiling, "Congratulations by the way."

"Miss Farris," She said smiling.

She glared at Jake. "Master Upstead, if you do not take the potion now, I'm sending you to the nurse and marking you absent! You will not infect my students with your cold." She adored the kid but wasn't going to put up with his antics.

"Miss Laksh, Welcome to Ancient Runes." She told the new student.

"Master Cartwright." She said and winked at him.

"Hello Master Phillips." and she jumped off the desk.

"Good Morning, Miss Griffin." She said and moved to behind the desk.

"I'm fine." She said and then began class.

FYI: Very little of this lesson is based in reality, this lesson is designed to be fun, so if you can't find the answer to a question MAKE ONE UP

"Who can tell me what witches' runes are?" She asked. "I don't want to know what the figures are, but what the purpose is for these runes."

That was a similar voice, talking to Jake, right? With the customary response to a sneeze. Jake's head, however, was too heavy to lift, and he responded with a small wave of thanks.

Shaking his head again, Jake now sat with his forehead on the desk, taking deep breaths. He was fine. This was just a cold, right?

Right.

Looking around at Tibi, Jake knew he had to tell the kid. Had to.

"The luhh-lake," he muttered, feeling his head pounding. "He thuh-threw m-..." With that, Jake glanced warily at Lupa. No. He couldn't tell him here. No way. "I fuhh-fell..."

Giving Tibi a look that clearly said 'I'll tell you later', Jake ignored the potion again and rested with his cheek on the desk.

Colllldddd wood.

Eeep. Okay. He'd... maybe do as he was told.

But he diiiid hate that potion.

Grabbing the potion thing, Jake waited until the professor had turned to greet someone else, and slipped the vial into the pocket of his robes. Bwahaa. He'd go to the nurse later maybe.

Immediately, taking care not to spill the hidden potion, Jake raised his hand. Witches runes. One of the things he could remember about LouAnn. "I ruhh-remember yuhh-you telling Luhh-LouAnn," Jake pointed out, his voice sounding kinda thick. "Shuhh-she had some. An'... oh wait..." No... he'd forgotten.

Errrr...

It was best to guess, that way, he'd look stupid because he WANTED to.

"Tuhh-telling the fuhh-future?"

"ATCHOO!"

Tiberius was torn. He could concentrate on trying to puzzle out just exactly what Jake was trying to tell him, or, because Lupa had started class, he could worry about it later.

But then he caught Jake's look and the decision was made. Worry about it later.

Raising his hand and sitting up straight, he answered Lupa's question.

"Witches runes are pictograph runes that are often used much like the other rune's we've studied can be used - for divination. They're also used for spell-casting.

Barrys hand shot up. This was facts. He was good at facts " Witches Runes have a simillar use to witches as the Futhark Runes. They are used when the witches require divination" he said

Reese pulled some parchment, ink, and quill from her school back and placed them all on her desk. Once Professor Lupa asked the first question, she raised her hand. "Witch runes are runes that are used for Divination," she answered.

Uhhh, yeah.This answer was going to be a complete guess.

Raising her hand in the air, Sarah tentatively answered. "Umm are they sort of...uhhh...used by witches to tell the future? Like divination-y type things.....?" Boy did she sound thick.And now she was scanning the pages of her book to see if she was right.

Raising her hand Marie said "Professor, I believe they are somethig that was created to be runes, they are not actually runes at all. They are stones that were made by ancient Sanskrit wizards to control and bind their enemies. They weren't as effective as they had wished, so they weren't widely used."
She put her hand down and tried to remember where she had read that or was she just dreaming that she had read that? Oh well, it was an answer.

Uhhhhhh... Hmmm? "Witch's Runes are like regular runes, but used in divination." right?
