Transfiguration Lesson 3

Lars propped open the door to the transfiguration classroom and returned to his desk at the front of the room. Today, the desks were arranged in pairs, and on each desk was a pink, rabbit-shaped and sugar-covered marshmallow and a chess piece. Not a chess piece from a wizarding chess set, though. These were simple, Muggle chess pieces. Nothing magical about them. At the front of the classroom, on Professor Svensson's desk, was a chess board complete with all its pieces.

With her blonde hair in plaits Brody Summers entered the Transfiguration classroom with a smile on her face. She liked this lesson. Tehhe.
"Hello Professor" She nodded, a she took a seat at one of the paired desks. Oooh. Pink marshmallow. It looked yummmy! She wanted to eat it. Tehhe. She hoped they could eat them laaatter. Or maybe the Professor had a stashs she could have...or maybe not.

Erindipity 11-06-2009 10:55 PM

Alexandra skipped into the Transfiguration classroom and smiled at the Professor. "Good day, Professor" she said with a little giggle. This was easily becoming one of her favorite subjects.

Noticing that the desks were in pairs she plopped down at one desk and waited for Lorcan. Hopefully they wouldn't blow anything up today... or catch anything on fire.

firenjen 11-06-2009 10:58 PM

Lucille walked into the room tying up her white hair. it was getting too long. sigh.

But then her eyes lit up.

BUNNY SHAPED SUGAR COVERED MARSHMALLOWS!!??

Ohhhhhh!!

She sat down, saying as she did so "Chello Professor. Now down to buisness, can we eat these?" She pointed at the marshmallow infront of her, smiling with BIG eyes.

Weeeeeell, another class to go to. Transfiguration was fun and all, but Miranda thought it was a bit difficult. But hopefully today would be allright.

Walking inside the classroom, she halted when she noticed the desks and that there was something on them...

CANDY!
Oh yes, this would be a good class indeed!

With a wave, Miranda greeted the man. "Good Day Professor Svensson, sir! How are you today?" she proceeded to sit down at the front of the class as usual to make sure she saw everything the professor was demonstrating.

Kay walked into the classroom. She looked around and saw the pink little rabbit marshmallow and the chess piece. She looked up at the Professor and wondered. "Hello Professor." Kay said walking to the table she and Marie used last time. Kay saw Alexandra already there and wanted to be nice. "Hi Alexandra." and gave a little wave. She put her bag down and sat to wait for the class to start.

Becca hopped along to a random beat in her head on her way to Transfiguration. She walked over the threshold, careful not to trip and then surveyed the room, before saying, with a grin, "Hello Professor, seems like it's going to be a fun lesson, I can already tell!". Then she took a seat at one of the paired desks. She hoped somebody she could get to know would sit next to her..

Shanners 11-06-2009 11:30 PM

Tammy smiled a little bit, and gave her nose a little rub with her palm as she walked into the classroom and headed for the back of the class. But she didn't get far, until she turned and smiled at Professor Svensson, and greeted him. "Hey Professor." The smile slowly turned into a grin, and she continued for the back of the classroom.

Before taking a seat back there, hoping the person that would sit in her 'pair' would be someone nice.

miss.weasley23 11-06-2009 11:30 PM

Anya walked into the Transfiguration classroom. Seeing the pink bunnies on the desks put a big smile on her face. Giggling to herself, she walked through the door, "Hello Professor!" She sat down at one of the desks and waited for anybody she knew.

"I am well, thank you," Svensson replied with a nod in the girl's direction.

It appeared that a fair amount of students had arrived. Looking at his watch, Professor Svensson saw that it was time for class to begin. "If someone could please close the door, we'll begin," he said, standing up. He paced around his desk until he stood next to his chess board.

"Who can tell me the difference between the chess pieces on your desk, and my chess set here?" Svensson asked, gesturing at his own chess pieces but not actually touching them.

Sky walked in, her ever-present messenger bag hitting her leg with every step.
"Anya!"

miss.weasley23 11-06-2009 11:36 PM

Anya raised her hand. "These are muggle chess pieces and you have a wizard chess set." Anya stated. She wanted to get a good start this lesson, to get an E, maybe even an O.

Anya turned at the sound of her name, blushing. Seeing it was Sky, she smiled brightly at her.

Kay put her hand up. "Sir the one on my desk is from a muggle set. Your is a wizarding chess set." Kay answered hoping that she was right and that's what the Professor meant. She felt a little unsure of her answer.

The professor nodded slowly. "Correct... but what, other than how the difference in the way they play chess, makes the two different?"

SilverTiger 11-06-2009 11:48 PM

Adrienne raised her hand from her desk near the back, that she had slipped into shortly before class started. "Professor, these are Muggle chess pieces, which aren't able to move on their own. And, assuming everyone else is correct that you have a Wizarding chess set at your desk, those pieces are charmed or something so that they can move on their own." Not that she'd ever been very good at Wizarding chess, other than conceptually.

miss.weasley23 11-06-2009 11:53 PM

"The wizard chess pieces move to their next place by your voice. Muggle chess pieces have to be moved physically," she said, still beaming that she had been able to answer a question.

"Precisely!" Svensson cried, waving his arms wildly. He picked up one of his own Wizarding chess pieces and walked over to a desk near the front, picked up a piece, and held both chess pieces in the air.

"Say I wanted to make both of these chess pieces as similar as possible, in terms of what we just discussed. Let's brainstorm some ways we could do that," he said.

Roselyn 11-07-2009 12:20 AM

Evelyn, who was sitting towards more of the back of the room, looked around as everyone started to call out answers. 'Hmm, difference between muggle and wizard chess pieces...well one is definitely more exciting than the other.' Smirking, she then turned her attention to the PINK marshmallow. Oh how she hated the color pink. And it was another marshmallow. 'Getting kind tired of those..'

Leaning back in her seat, Evelyn surveyed the room again, listening to what the Professor was saying. She had no idea how to make them both similar, but on the other hand, she wasn't trying to think of any ideas either. She was feeling too tired at the moment. "Can't you just make the wizard chess piece...not...move on their own? Or make the muggle ones move..." she mumbled quietly to herself, drawing circles on the desk with her finger. It was the only thing she could think of at the moment.

Erindipity 11-07-2009 12:27 AM

Hmmm... Alexandra thought on that one for a moment charming the muggle pieces to move would work, but this was Transfiguration, not charms... Hmmm indeed. She kept her hand down this time, waiting for the Professor to answer.

SilverTiger 11-07-2009 01:17 AM

How to make the chess pieces as similar as possible?, Adrienne mused, still a little surprised at the reaction her previous answer had gotten from the professor. But then she came up with a few ideas, and raised her hand again. "Would 'Petrificus Totalus' work on the Wizarding chess pieces? Because that would make them unable to move on their own. Or, the reverse would be some form of the Mobilicorpus spell, although you'd have to change the incantation to refer to the Muggle chess piece. But even then, you'd still be moving it. Or, you could always just use a Switching Spell, make the Wizarding chess piece a Muggle one and vice versa." And now that hse said it, those ideas sounded ridiculous. But they were all she could come up with currently.

LilFox06 11-07-2009 01:37 AM

Carter raised his hand. "You could animate the muggle pieces." he said. "I think the spell is 'Piertotum Locomotor'."

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 11-07-2009 01:38 AM

Becca raised her hand slowly, after listening to everyone else's response. To tell the truth, she had no idea what the answer was. "I agree with her." Becca nodded her head in the direction of the older Ravvie. "It makes a lot of sense to me." Well, it sounded like a pretty good answer, and it sounded very accurate.

The1HBIC 11-07-2009 01:44 AM

Marie raised her hand "Sir, we could use Immobulus on the wizarding pieces to make them like the muggle pieces." She really had no clue what the answer would be but she wanted to give some sort of answer. She looked at Kay waiting to hear what she had to say.

harrypottterbroadway 11-07-2009 01:50 AM

Aah, Transfiguration. Keeley's favorite class EVER. Well, being a metamorphagus, how could it not? But, having been in the hospital wing for the last lesson, she was behind. She fingered the cross pendant around her neck. Hmm... how to make them as similar as possible?

seusslover14 11-07-2009 02:28 AM

Kylie's brow furrowed. The questions in Transfiguration always took a lot of creative thinking. She raised her hand, "Well...couldn't you transfigure the wizard chess piece into a muggle chess piece? Or.." Kylie paused, "Or transfigure the muggle chess piece into a wizard chess piece?" Kylie concluded lamely. She wished she was more creative with those sorts of things. She could cast spells, she could give you information about muggle and wizard history, but when she had to think of how you could get from point a to point b, she was nearly absolute rubbish.

HannahLongbottom 11-07-2009 03:41 AM

Lorcan nudged Lexi and sent her a look that said, Have you got any ideas? 'Cos I really haven't! He was totally stumped by this one.

Gissel 11-07-2009 07:19 AM

Whit looked at the two chess pieces, noticing the differences. Obviously the only way to get an inanimate object to move on it's own would be to charm it, right? So why not "uncharm" it or charm the muggle chess piece? She raised her hand and said, "Surely you could just charm the muggle piece...or use a different charm to take off the charm from the wizarding piece, couldn't you?" It seemed logical, anyways, and if it wasn't that, than she had absolutely no idea.

"As...Carter... previously suggested, you could use the spell 'Piertotum Locomotor' on the Muggle chess pieces. Who can tell me what this spell does?" Svensson asked the class.

Antarctica 11-07-2009 08:03 PM

Kiri raised her hand. "Professor, Piertotum Locomotor transforms inanimate objects, like, er... statues, or... or chess pieces," she said, glancing down at the black rook on her table, "to sort of, you know, become mobile and do what the witch or wizard who cast the spell told them to do."

Daffy.Potter 11-07-2009 08:04 PM

EEE. She should start participating in the class, now. Get some points. CLAW POWA! Livvy held up her hand into the air to answer the professor's question. She knew this one, luckily. "Piertotum Locomotor is used to animate, or 'bring to life'," she held up her hands to even do the air quotes. "- Statues and suits of armor to do the caster's bidding and to follow the caster's every command."

Erindipity 11-07-2009 08:15 PM

Alexandra put her hand up and then answered, "I believe that it makes inanimate objects move. It kind of brings them to life. During the Battle of Hogwarts Professor McGonagall used it to make the suits of armor help defend the castle."

HPgirl 11-07-2009 08:22 PM

Sky raised her hand.
"Professor, how can you be sure after they do move that they will obey you? Or does that come with the 'Locmotor' thingy? If they didn't, they wouldn't only smash chess pieces," she asked.

Svensson set down the chess pieces he had been holding and looked solemnly at the class. "Kiri said that Piertotum Locomotor transforms objects. It does not charm them. What is the difference between a spell like Piertototum Locomotor and, say, a charm that simply animates an inanimate object?"

Difficult question. Kiri picked up the chess piece and rolled around in her hand absent-mindedly as she tried to figure out an acceptable answer. Finally, she raised a hesitant hand.

"The difference between a charm and a transfiguring spell is that a charm only sort of... acts on an object, transfiguring, er, changes the nature of it." She hastily tried to think of an example. "Say... casting Wingardium Leviosa to make this chess piece," she held it up, "fly is a charm. But, er... adding a pair of wings so that it would be able to fly itself would belong to Transfiguration." She paused for a moment. "Possibly?"

Erindipity 11-07-2009 08:44 PM

Alexandra raised her hand and said, "Well, you can direct the object to act as you please when you use Piertotum Locomotor, can't you?" She began to absent mindedly twirl a strand of hair around her finger.

"It's true that you need a counter spell to stop 'piertotum locomotor,'" Svensson said, "But some charms, especially strong charms, need a counter spell as well, if I remember correctly."

Svensson clapped his hands. Time to move on. "Now, I've already taught you the incantation--'Piertotum Locomotor'--so you should all be ready to perform the spell yourselves," he told the class. He turned and scribbled the name of the spell, which was also its incantation, on the board with some chalk, then turned around to face the class again. "Why don't you all try the spell on your peeps now?"

harrypottterbroadway 11-07-2009 09:48 PM

Ooh! Ooh! Keeley knew this one! Her hair turned pink, for pretty much no reason. "It makes inantimate objects come to life." Yay! She could finally do something for Ravenclaw!

Erindipity 11-07-2009 10:03 PM

"What is the wand movement for it sir?" Alexandra asked quietly with a raised hand

Antarctica 11-07-2009 10:03 PM

Peeps? That got an eye-raise from Kiri. Even the rather cheaply-made looking Muggle chess rook in her hand seemed to radiate indignation. Still, she was a little pleased with herself for delivering an apparently acceptable answer.

She put the rook down on the table and pulled out her wand. Aiming at nothing in particular, she waved it about and muttered the incantation under her breath. The 'Piertotum' in particular turned out to be a little difficult to pronounce, and as Kiri tried to say it correctly, she philosophised idly about what had motivated witches and wizards of the ages to make their spells so difficult to speak aloud.

Deciding to give it a try, she aimed the wand at the rook and said, "Pierre... No, no... Pee-err-totum Locomotor!" Nothing happened. Kiri wasn't surprised.
She laid the spell's syllables out in her head. Concentrating hard, she made another attempt: "Piertotum Locomotor!" To her excitement, the chess piece on the table moved! Sure, it only sort of wobbled back and forth a bit, but her spell had clearly had an effect.

That realisation brought a question, though. Kiri put her wand down on the table and raised her hand. "Erm, Professor Svensson? I have a question. Once we've, uh, figured out how the spell works, how do we actually tell the chess piece what to do?" She paused for a moment, then added, "Do we even have to tell it?"

DH Vixen 11-07-2009 10:14 PM

Eying the peep and the chess piece currently in front of her. Mina reached for her wand. Piertotum Locomotor...Piertotum Locomotor...remember clear and precise words. She wasn't sure of the wand movement but glanced around to see the other students trying.

With a small sigh, she focused her attention back at the peep in front of her. Thinking about it in her head, she repeated the incantation to herself a few times before even attempting it. Better to be safe than sorry.

LilFox06 11-07-2009 10:33 PM

Carter looked down at his peep and realized he didn't know the wand movement. Luckily someone already mentioned it. He then continued to stare down at the peep and imagined it changing to be able to walk... or hop around... or whatever animated peeps did.

"With this spell, the wand movement isn't really an issue," Svensson said. "Though, now that you mention it, a precise wand movement would probably help you learn the spell..." The professor thought for a moment, then reached for his wand. His hand paused in his pocket as he remembered his wand was missing. Not wanting the students to know this, he decided to just describe the movement.

"Try a clockwise half-circle motion and then a flick towards the object," he said. Yes, that should work.

Carter looked down at his peep. He made a half-moon shape with his wand and then flicked it down toward the peep. 'Piertotum Locomotor' he said watching the peep with an intense look. Suddenly the peep popped up to life. It hoped around in a circle bouncing on its marshmallow 'legs'.

"Wha- We can't have them fight each other?" she asked, sitting up in her seat and staring at what the Professor was writing on the board. Would have been cool to have the pieces duel one another. Sighing, Evelyn took out her wand and stared at the Pink peep...pink...ew.

Resisting to turn it green like it should be, she pointed her wand at the rabbit shaped marshmallow and said "Piertotum Locomotor" rather confidently and clearly while doing the half moon and flick. For a moment, it seemed like it didn't do anything, making her frustrated. She always got things right on the first try! About to say the spell again, the little peep suddenly wiggled it's ears and started hopping around slightly, which somehow reminded her of chocolate frogs which then led her to be reminded of the one Josh had given her. She still had it...amazingly.

'Do those things ever go bad?' she thought, while poking the bouncing pink bunny, glancing around at everyone else and seeing what they were doing.

Kiri nodded. "Thank you, Professor," she said. That sounded simple enough, although the often crucially difference between theory and practice could of course lead to... complications.

She twirled her wand reflectively while thinking very hard of what she'd make the rook do. Walk across the table, maybe? Yes, that would probably do to start with. She took aim and said loudly, "Piertotum Locomotor!" and focused on a walking chess piece.
The rook sprang to life so suddenly that startled her. At first, Kiri was pleasantly surprised at how easy the spell seemed to be, but then... "Hey! What are you doing?" The rook was not walking around in a small circle like she'd specified, but was instead rushing towards the edge of the table at speed. Kiri flailed after it with her wandless arm, but it was too late - the rook went straight over the edge and smashed on the floor.

Great. Apparently I make little stone chess figures suicidal. She snorted derisively, then waved her wand to summon the pieces. A second flick restored the rook. Kiri put it down on the table with slightly more force than was necessary and gave it long, cool look as if daring it to misbehave again. "Piertotum Locomotor!" And don't do that again, she added silently.
The rook began to move. It meandered back and forth, but never strayed too close to the edge. Kiri kept a watchful eye as, little by little, the errant motions turned into what vaguely resembled a circle. Wondering what the proper mathematical name was for lightly-dented-egg geometry, Kiri let the rook wander about for a while.

Then she stopped the spell. With a final wobble, the chess piece came to a halt.

Destiny 11-08-2009 12:02 AM

Oooo! Practice time!
Rolling up her sleeves, like she does at every transfiguration class, Destiny took out her wand and did the half moon and flick and said 'piertotum locomotor!' Nothing had happened. 'Whaaaat?'
She picked up the rabbit peep and examined it close to her face, but as she picked it up the peep used his wee little 'hands' and slapped her in the nose? She threw the peep onto the desk. 'I don't like you.' and she poked it with the tip of her wand, right in the peep's 'belly'. 'Now do push ups.'

Erindipity 11-08-2009 12:27 AM

Alexandra nodded her head and tried the wand movement without saying the incantation. Then she prcaticed the incantation without the wand movement... she didn't want to make anything crazy happen. "Piertotum Locomotor" she said clearly. Turning to the peep and chess piece she did the wand movement and said the incantation.

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 11-08-2009 12:41 AM

Becca listened to everyone's answers, as well as Professor Svensson's input. She moved her wand over the little peep and said, "Piertotum Locomotor." Because she knew the spell, she didn't have much difficulty with it. All of a sudden, her peep came to life and started to make chick noises! This startled Becca, who jumped, and nearly fell out of her seat. Regaining composure, she put a hand to her heart and sighed. She should've been ready for that, but of course, she wasn't. Then, she burst out laughing- her face must've been priceless!

lunalovegood21 11-08-2009 12:45 AM

Alex was worried what if it didn't work, well its ok I'll try again she thought. She closed her eyes and swished her wand "Piertotum Locomotor" she said opening one of her eyes. Happily her little peep came to life. She saw the girl next to her has also done it she smiled and said " Nice". As she was proud of her own work
.

harrypottterbroadway 11-08-2009 12:58 AM

Ooh! So that's why we have the peeps, thought pink- haired Keeley. She pulled out her leafy-carved wand, and waved it swishily. The little peep started squaking and jumping around, making her just as excited. Yay! She did it!

PadfootAndTheWolf 11-08-2009 12:58 AM

Chris nodded as the Professor said to do that spell. Easy enough. He pulled out his wand and said the incantation. "Piertotum Locomotor" he made the counterclock-wise swirl and then flicked it at the chess peice. It moved he loved doing this spell!

Roselyn 11-08-2009 01:27 AM

Looking around, she noticed that some were working with the peep while others were using the spell on the chess piece. 'Oops. Which one were we supposed to do the spell on?' she thought, glancing at the hopping pink bunny on her desk.

"Profess-" she paused when she heard someone tell the peep (or chess piece) to do push ups. Laughing slightly, she continued. "Professor? Does it matter which of these we did the spell on?" Evelyn asked, pointing to the rabbit and the chess piece.

Marilyn smirked as her Slytherin housemate bullied the peep. That poor, pink monstrosity...

Rolling her bright green eyes, She forced herself back to the task at hand. What did she want the offensive pink marshmallow to do?

She waved her wand in the necessary motions and enunciated appropriately. The peep didn't move at first...and she was afraid she'd not done it right. Quite suddenly, said peep started tumbling around the desk, looking strangely similar to an armadillo. Feeling pleased with herself, Marilyn actually smiled.

Take that you ugly marshmellow!

DH Vixen 11-08-2009 01:46 AM

Mina listened carefully as she heard a destrition of the wand movement. Doesn't sound so hard. Moving her own wand in a clock-wise half-circle and with a small flick, she praticed the movement without saying the incantation out loud but silently in her head.

After a few pratice run, she focused and tried it out. Gracefully, she guided her wand in a smooth half-circle directed clock-wise and flicked it at the little pink peep as she clearly repeat the incantation. "Piertotum Locomotor"

The little pink bunny started to move. Well, it was more of a hop, but it made her giggle. A hopping pink bunny peep....so cute That was a start at least. Looking around to see how she was doing compared to the others, she continued to made her peep hop.

Luna Laufghudd 11-08-2009 02:38 AM

Okayyyy...this should be easy. Should is the words.

Shaking her body as to make it loose, Miranda held her wand firmly in her hand and pointed it at the chess piece before remembering that you had to do the wand movement. Oh, right.

Moving her arm in a clockwise half circle, she flicked the wand at the chess piece. "Piertotum Locomotor!" she said firmly and gasped as the chess piece actually moved! IT MOVED! It sort of skidded along a little bit, but it MOVED. Horaaaaaaaaay!

Okay, now she just had to do it more times and make it move alot more. Sure, sure. No problem...I hope. And she prepared.

"You did?" Evelyn asked quietly, feeling slightly guilty. 'Hmm...must have been too absorbed in drawing circles on the table to hear that part. Oops.' Didn't really matter since she did the spell on the peep, rabbit, marshmallow, thing, anyway. "Oh, okay."

Watching it hop around, getting really annoyed with the pink color, she decided to just focus her attention on Destiny's peep instead. Sure, it was still the same pink color, but it was someone ELSE's pink rabbit, so that made it better.

Miranda was just about to try the spell on the chess piece again when she heard the question...and then the answer.

Her mouth formed into an " o " as she froze with her wand in the air. As descreete as she could manage, her wand changed directions and was now pointing at the pink thingy. She hoped the professor hadn't noticed.

But now she was going to try again.
It was difficult though as the rabbit began to sloooooowly move around a bit, Miranda had problems making it stop, putting her hand around the edges of the table to keep it from falling to the ground.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Stop! Stop stop STOPPIT!

Rosa Chispa Princessa 11-08-2009 04:20 AM

Fred decided why not try the spell the teacher asked and took out his wand and said, "Piertotum Locomotor", concentrated intently on amkin the peep dance and aimed his wand on the peep on his desk. The peep instantly became animate and started dancing just how he envisioned it and smiled that he got the spell right and that a peep was dancing right in front of his eyes.

Kaytone 11-08-2009 04:45 AM

Kay put her little peep in the middle of the table. She pulled her wand and pointed it at the pink rabbit. "Piertotum Locomotor." Kay said was she did the wand movment the professor said to do. The little peep moved a little but not as much as Kay would have liked. She looked at Marie to she if she would do better.

Destiny 11-08-2009 04:46 AM

Destiny was counting how many push ups this little rabbit could do. If marshmallows could sweat, this little guy would definitely be sweating. '147, 148, 149, 150.' She laughed at the thought of the marshmallow rabbit flex his marshmallow muscles. Oh right, she could make it do that. 'Flex your muscles! Hahaha!' She turned to Evelyn, 'Look at mine!'

Kylie focused on the task at hand, she'd taken some good notes that were sure to come into use later and had used up all the time she could use trying to avoid doing the spell. She'd been good with casting spells, quite good really.. but it was something that seemed to really wear her out after a while. She just hoped this wouldn't be like the more complex charms and spells that really made her tired.

She imagined herself completing the spell correctly before boldly saying, "Piertotum Locomotor". Her little sugar-covered peep began sort of..hoping..in a way.. making very light, quiet, small chirps.
Aww... Kylie thought to herself, "It's so.. so cute!" The words were for no one in particular.

Kylie took a deep breath, she focused again on the task at hand. Imagining her muggle chess piece hoping to life, she took the king and placed it in front of her. Doing the half circle and flicking her wand towards the piece she said, "Piertotum Locomotor", repeating what she'd done earlier to the peep exactly. A smile broke out onto her face as she saw the king liven with life. He walked around the board once, almost as surprised as she was. He looked at her and gave a little wink. Kylie laughed. She'd have to tell Nate about that one later. She stuck up her pointer finger to the king as if to give him a high-five. The king understood and.. well, they high-fived.

Lorcan was cheered up by his success with his marshmallow, and by Lexi's encouragement. "Very true," Lars acknowledged with a nod.

"Yes, but some charms allow you to do the same," Svensson said with a smile. "Good guess, though!"

Svensson nodded again. These students seemed to mostly have a good gage of the difference between a charm and a transfiguration spell. "Quite right," he said with a smile.

Sky blew a sigh of relief, then started on her piece she was assigned to wotk with.
"Piertotum Locomotor."
She laughed when her piece stood to attention.

Feeling as if she'd get a better aim if she stood and faced her peep, LouAnn raised her wand and aimed it towards the marshmallow goodness. Charming a peep to come alive should be a fun and exciting thing to do...that is, if LouAnn can get the spell to working properly. "Piertotum Locomotor!" she called out, giving the peep a rather fierce look. She continued to glare at it until she realized that she'd sadly done nothing at all to it. "Merlin Me!" she said aloud, putting her hands on her hips. "Piertotum Locomotor!" she said again, aiming the wand at the peep. Nothing.

"Once you've cast the spell, you should just be able to think about what it is you want the chess piece to do," Svensson said. "However, if your spell isn't strong enough, you may have to vocally instruct it in what you want it to do."

Ahhh, proper wand movements might do the trick, yes? "Ahem!" LouAnn raised her wand and aimed towards her peep again, this time determined to get it right. She whirled her wand in a clockwise half-circle motion and flicked it towards the marshmallow peep. "Piertotum Locomotor!"

What she hadn't counted on, of course, was her wand jamming itself into the peep instead of just being aimed towards it. Not realized that she'd poked the little creature, LouAnn jerked her wand back towards her, accidentally sending the marshmallow peep flying across the classroom towards Merlin only knew where.

"...oops."

Jack hadn't been paying full attention during this lesson...he didn't MEAN to space off, but his mind was too wrapped around the little astronomy group they were thinking of forming. He wondered if they could actually get away with learning some stuff this year, when his attention was brought back to him by Svenson, who had moved on in the lesson. Whooooops.

He moved his wand in a half circle motion, then jabbed it at his peep. "Piertotum Locomotor," he said. He watched as the peep stood up and started walking around in cirlces on his desk, and he grinned. Could he keep it as a pet?! Wouldn't be the first time a creature from one of their classes stowed away in his bag....

THUNK!

"Ouch!" he muttered, turning around as something hit his head. He looked at the floor and saw a murdered peep on the ground! EEEEP! Poor little guy...giant flesh wound in the middle of his marshmallow stomach. Dead before he even had a chance to live. Sniff.

He looked around to see...LouAnn, who was marshmallowless. He should have known. He picked up the peep and set it on her desk. "Ermm...I think this is yours," he said, before hurrying back to his desk before the peep walked right into his bag.

"If you haven't already, go ahead and try the spell on your chess piece now. Or your marshmallow rabbit, if you started with your chess piece," he instructed.

Marilyn looked down at the hideously pink Peep and smirked. Picking up the pewter knight, she placed it right beside the still active marshmallow in the center of the desk.

"Piertotum Locomotor"

She moved her wand accordingly and flicked. The knight piece was quicker to respond than the Peep, and began galloping around the desk with its little metal sword raised. It was adorable. Of course, Marilyn had other ideas as she ordered the chess piece to approach the peep. The marshmallow stopped tumbling when the tiny knight poked it forcefully with its sword. After a moment, the marshmallow squeaked and started bouncing away with the knight hot on its trail.

Marilyn couldn't keep her glee in check as an excited giggle escaped her lips. This was vastly entertaining...

As Kay and Marie played their little game of tag, a Little pink rabbit fell on to the table. Kay looked at the poor little thing with a hole where its heart would have been. Kay turn to look around the room. "Someone missing their peep?" Kay asked into the class room.

Sky looked at some students and got an idea.
"Anya, Alex! Bet my peep can run faster than yoourss!" she grinned mischieviously.
"Go!"
The peep ran stupidly round the desk.
She started on her rabbit, saying the same ol' incantation-thingy.
She clapped her hands excitedly when it came to life.
"HOP!"
It obeyed.

His bishop came to life, and made it's way over to Lexi's piece and made a small bow. "What do you think?" he gave her a small smile.

Lexi giggled and said, "That's great Nemean! Good show!" Concentrating really hard she pointed her wand toward her chess piece doing the wand movement and said, "Piertotum Locomotor". SHe watched with amazement as her chess piece returned a curtsey to Lorcan's piece. She then turned her wand to the peep and said, "Piertotum Locomotor". She laughed as the peep began to hop around on her desk. "How's that?" she asked Lorcan timidly.

"Cool!!" then Daniel giggled. He looked at LouAnn and smiled and waved at her.

He then focused on the marshmallow at hand and said the incantation. Piertotum Locomotor and then the peep sprang to life.

It then walked towards LouAnn and danced its way there.

Yeeeep. Everybody had the hang of the spell. "Okay, everyone," Svensson said loudly, trying to get their attention. "You can keep practicing in here for a bit if you'd like, but I'm going to give you your homework now!" He turned to the board and meticulously recorded their assignment.

Homework:
1) Take your chess pieces with you and continue practicing the spell. Work with a partner or in groups and have some sort of contest among your chess pieces--a race or a dance-off or something. No violence.
2) Write an brief essay (about a paragraph in length) explaining how this spell is useful in everyday life. Be creative if you'd like.

Homework is due two weeks from now. Include a link to the post(s) in which you RPed number one.

"If you've successfully tried the spell, you're dismissed. Otherwise, you may stay to practice some more before you try the homework," he said with a smile.

Destiny 11-08-2009 10:35 PM

Destiny giggled when Evelyn made her peep bother her's who was still flexing. Maybe she could keep hers animated. It was too cute!

Destiny heard that they could use the spell on the chess pieces. She grabbed her wand and did the movement and said the words and the chess piece came to life. She didn't know what the chess piece was called, but it looked like a horse. She wanted to see if the 'horse' could get dizzy so she made it hop around in circles.

Then she heard the dreadful, awful word- homework. 'Nooo!'
She took out a quill and parchment to write down the work but had a better idea. Pointing her wand at the flexing rabbit she said 'Hold this quill.' The quill was a little too heavy for it and the rabbit fell down. 'So much for that. It'll be easier if I do it.'

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 11-08-2009 10:38 PM

Becca cleared up her place before writing up the homework. She wrote quickly and stuffed the quill and parchment into her bag. She picked up all of her books, pushed in her chair and made to leave. Before crossing the threshold though, Becca smiled and said, "Thanks Professor Svensson! I had a great time; this lesson was pretty fun." And with that, she was off.

Daffy.Potter 11-08-2009 10:39 PM

EEP. x3

Oh. Right. Time to practice the spell.

Remembering that she was in class, Livvy shook herself awake and pulled out her wand as she stared at the chess pieces and that marshmallow bunny thingie. Um. Um. So how was she supposed to do this? SEEEE... that's why you listen in class. Scolding herself for not paying enough attention to the professor, Livvy glanced around to see what the others were doing. Yeah. Um. She could do that.

After studying LouAnn's wand movement, she held up her wand, aiming it at the little dude. Then she twirled the wand around in a clockwise half-circle wand motion and flicking it at the chess piece. "Piertotum Locomotor!" Livvy said, forcefully and HOORAH! She wasn't quite sure how to control it, but she managed to get the chess piece to dance around a little before flying off towards the professor.

Eep. Sorry Professor Svensson.

Blushing slightly, Livvy turned to the marshmallow bunny as she stared it down, placing her hands on her hips as she still held onto her wand with her right hand. It was going DOOOOWWWNN. Repeating the wand movement for the chess piece, she flicked her wand and said, "Piertotum Locomotor!"

The marshmallow immediately went to life and Livvy willed it to do the disco. Ah. Beginner's luck, she presumed. She wasn't quite sure how to stop it though, so she just stuffed her wand back into her robes and let it keep going until it did.

Livvy then pulled out a piece of parchment and jotted down the homework assignment. Once she gathered all her things, Livvy began to walk away from her desk. "Bye Professor Svensson. Thanks for the great lesson," she said, cheerily, waving at him briefly before exiting the classroom.

Roselyn 11-08-2009 10:53 PM

Evelyn snickered when she saw what looked like Destiny try to make her rabbit write the homework for her. "Come back little one." she spoke to her still hopping rabbit, and turning her attention back to her own chess piece. It looked like the queen piece, but she wasn't so sure. She knew the rules and had a good idea of what the pieces looked like, but she never really seen them.

Before she wrote the homework down, she pointed her wand at the piece and said, "Piertotum Locomotor." Like before, it took a few seconds before the piece came to life and when it did, it looked crossly at Evelyn, making her frown. "What?"

Shaking her head, she wrote down the homework, ignoring the chess piece that seemed to be trying to correct her writing...or something..."Go away." Evelyn mumbled, putting her things away and picking the queen piece up while waiting for Destiny.

Kaytone 11-08-2009 10:57 PM

"Yes, Thanks Professor. It was great fun." Kay said still laughing at the chess pieces. Kay looked at Marie to see if see wnated to keep going or go start on homework. Kay grab her quill and started writing it down.
