| | Transfiguration Lesson 1 As you step into the transfiguration classroom for Professor Svensson’s first lesson of the term, it appears at first to be an average classroom. Desks with their chairs are arranged in several rows of semicircles facing the front of the room, where the professor’s desk is covered with several open books and stacks of parchment. Along the walls of the classroom, stacks of boxes stand ready to be used in class, but don’t touch them! The professor himself is not yet present, but he has left a message on the board: Quote:

"I believe the duro spell can be used both offensively and defensively. As an example let's say I'm dueling with Celadine. We meet at the center of the dueling platform, bow to each other, and assume the proper dueling position. Before Celadine can deliver a spell, I use the duro spell to turn her wand into stone. In that instance I have used the spell offensively.
In another situation, I find myself being out dueled by Celadine's superior skill. The only way I can survive this duel is to stop her from bombarding me with offensive spells. I knock off one of my shoes, turn it to stone, levitate it, and drop it on Celadine's head knocking her out. In this instance I've used the duro spell as a defensive move. The spell should work well either way depending on how and when you use it."
"Thank you for your hypothetical situation as an example," Svensson said slowly. But who was Celadine? He knew of Celandine who was sitting right there in class, but was there another student with a similar name? That was a bit too much of a coincidence for him. What if somebody accidentally misspelled Celandine's name and Celadine thought something was regarding her when it was really for Celandine? Hopefully the girls knew each other and cared enough to give letters with their names misspelled in the address to the rightful recipient. Quote:

Don't worry, young man," Svensson reassured the boy. "Transfiguration can be dangerous if taken lightly, but we take it very seriously here so that no one gets hurt. No lasting damage, ever. Occasionally someone might end up with...a moose head or gills. But that's easily rectified." Quote:
"Is there a counterspell to reverse turning something into stone?" Rafe asked. "Or does the spell wear off over time?" Rafe would hate to cast a spell and not really mean it and actually cause some damage.
"Yes, there is a counterspell. And yes, the spell can wear off over time if it is not strong enough," Svensson said.
"Since there's so much concern about accidents and the counterspell, I think it would be a good idea to learn the counterspell first." Svensson gripped his wand, opened the box on his desk, and drew out a stone marshmallow peep.
"As you can see, I have turned this marshmallow candy...peep... into stone. Watch carefully, for I'm going to use the counterspell to make it marshmallow again."
"Flexi!" Svensson shouted melodramatically, making a jabbing motion at the stone marshmallow with his wand. And alas! It was a marshmallow again. The professor held up the candy for all to see, then set the peep next to the box. "Everybody practice the pronunciation of the counterspell, then we'll move on to the spell itself. 'Flexi'." |

"Flexi." she said quietly out loud, making it even more difficult not to laugh. 'Jeez, why is that so funny?' Finally, unable to handle it any longer, she let out a small chuckle for a split second, not loud enough for anyone to hear though. |

Emalyn's mouth watered as she caught sight of the... MARSHMALLOWS!!!
Oooooh! No. No, no, no. You've had enough marshmallows.
She concentrated instead on what the professor had said. She muttered to herself. "Flexi...flexi? Yes, flexi. Flexi flexi flexi." she nodded in agreement with herself (yes, you can agree with yourself), and stopped muttering. She was starting to look like a weirdo. "Flexi." she said, satisfied. There, that was right...right?
Right.

Practical parts of the class were good for Issy for a few reasons. One, this meant that she needn't talk and thusly not embarrass herself with unnecessary babbling. Secondly, following Charms, Transfiguration was something she excelled at. In fact, her wand was very good for this. Third, practicality was fun. Fun!
Unfortunately, though, they were not practicing quite yet. Only the pronunciation. Siiiiigh. The girl let her wand rest on the desk and practiced the spell, though, it was hardly a difficult spell to speak.
"Flexi!" she mimicked the melodramatic manner the professor had spoken. "Flexi! Flexiiii!" To amuse herself, she used her hand to mime the way the wand had been used. Jab, jab! Like jousting! Or lancing! Jabbity jab! |

Satine watched in awe as the Professor pulled out a....a....is that a marshmellow....How random and weird.......she had to keep herself from doing the usual 'ooooooooohhhhhs....' and 'aaaaaaahhhhhhhhs' that she really wanted to say as she watched him change the marshmellow to a stone and back again and then she became really excited when she realized that maybe they were going to do the same.....and now to pracitce the counter...
Satine wrote the counterspell on her paper and then tried saying it correctly a few times...then she had a weird question.
She raised her hand, "Professor, I have a....well...I have a kind of crazy question....if the marshmallow is a stone is would it be like eating a rock...I mean if you wanted to eat it....or would it have a sweet taste....or could you even eat it....would it be a bad thing to do..." she paused and then decided to clarify her question...."well, not that I would ever want to eat a marshmallow stone." she finally finished her long stupid question...why did I even open my mouth....ugh!

| Changeable “Flexi, Flexi, Flexi...” Abigail continued to mutter the counter spell along with the rest of the class, sure that she had it right. It didn’t really make sense to learn this before the actual spell though.

"Flexi, Flexi, Flexi..." he sang it to a little tune. "Well I think I got that down!" Rafe said excitedly. "Woo hoo! Next there's Duro..." he waited for the professor to demonstrate once more. He couldn't wait to get his own little peep to practice on!

Huh. That sounded easy enough, and it sort of made sense...since rock wasn't flexible at all. Perhaps magic stood a chance of redemption in Arrick's eyes. Currently, he still wasn't convinced.
He scrawled 'flexi' in his book as he mumbled the incantation to himself.

Tori repeated the word just as the professor did, "Flexi, flexi, flexi..." She must have said it fifty times before she decided to look around and listen to the others practice.

Nikki looked at the marshmellow, an realised how hungry she was. She sighed, and went about practicing the counter spell, as she was told. "Flexi! Flexi, flexi, flexi!" Now that she said it, the spell reminded her of one of those fluro bendy rulers. They were pretty cool, now that she thought of it....

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. William hadn't even know what was going on. For a moment he thought he had stumbled into a history of magic lesson but he had already had that lesson. Then it dawned on him, and it kind of hit him hard. He listened carefully to the professor not missing a thing. This lesson was kind of interesting; turning things into stone then turning them back to normal again. But not human, oh no he wasn't going to touch that with a million foot pole.
"Flexi, Flexi." he muttered, wrapping his tongue around the counter spell and nodding to himself, noting the jabbing motion. That was simple enough, besides the normal swish and flick of other spells, jabbing was also a common wand movement. It seemed to him that many of the spells he had learned needing either a flick, swish or a flick jab.

. "Okay." Cela agreed and flipped her hair confidently. "So I can probably do it then."
She'd practice for HOURS to make sure that she could.
"Flexi!" She repeated and, noticing Issy practice the wand movement, Cela too gave a few jabs.
