Can we eat them after the class is over? she wondered silently and licked her lips.
She aimed her wand at the peep. "Duro!"
The peep turned into marble again, but something was missing.....His tale was still marsmellow!
Before anyone noticed, Nataly aimed her wand again at the peep, and whispered "Duro!"
This time, the peep's tail became marble. Nataly sighed in relief.
"I did it!" she squeled exitedly. Not again.
Could a Slytherin become too-Hufflepuffish sometimes?

Nataly was great! When Sara was a teenager, she wanted to be just like her. Nothing seemed to fuss her. If it didn't work, she just pretended it did and fixed it. Sara wondered how she could transform her things into marble too?

Finally, looking at her peep with great concentration, Sara said: "Duro!" The peep turned instantly into stone. Well, it wasn't pretty, but at least the spell had worked!

Trying the counter curse, Sara concentrated, jabbed and said: "Flexi!" Not bad Sara thought, She'd turned half of it back into a peep!

Abigail was about to give up on turning the peep to stone, in fact she was sick of looking at the thing. Deciding to give it one last go before leaving the class, she jabbed her wand at the marshmallow whilst concentrating and said clearly “DURO”...and the thing actually turned to stone! After all of that she’d finally managed ‘well I defiantly don’t want to eat it anymore, which is probably why’.

With a quick “FLEXI” the peep turned to its natural form and after finally mastering the spell she decided to stay and try it a few more times.

''I think i'm done with this duro-ing and flexi-ing stuff'' he sighed ''I really need to eat something!''

Collecting himself, he straightened up, pointing his wand at the feather, and jabbed at it sharply, saying "Duro!"

The feather hardened up and the barbs turned into stone. The shaft, however, was left snowy white.

"Flexo" he said, turning it back. At least the counterspell worked. But Tavelon wasn't quite an 'expert' as Lucille had said.

Lucille watched the bot work, rather impressed. When it cam to her turn, she bit her lip and furrowed her brow at the feather, as if it had done her some harm.

She gripped her wand and pointed it towards the feather.

"Duro!"
she muttered. Her voice shook, and noting happened. She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips, angry at it.

"Duro!" she said, louder this time.

The feather quivered slightly and turned slightly grey. She poked it.

It was not feather, and it was not stone, but somewhere inbetween. Hmmm.

"Duro
!" she cried, jabbing her wand a little harder. The feather turned a harder grey. She smiled.

"Flexo!" she said with the same amount of force as before. The feather reverted to its feather-stone self. She muttered the incantation one more time to ensure that it was full - feather, and smiled to herself once more.

"Don't let the professor see the spoon. Don't want to get into trouble." she suddenly smiled mischievously slightly. "C'mon. Let's go."

Rafe changed his voice to be high-pitched and girly, mocking Arianna, "Oh Professor, my feather is growing I don't know what to do? Ah! Ah!"

"Gosh! I hope the Professor, didn't hear you! Wouldn't want to lose house points after all. No harm done," Rafe ruffled her hair. He pointed to the feather sitting on his desk with his wand. "Accio feather!" And his wand went soaring through the air in his direction. "Duro!" he said as it changed to stone. "Pretty interesting spell, don't you think?" Rafe said with a smile. "You should catch up on some reading on simple spells, they're quite useful and...entertaining." Rafe laughed again.

Rafe noticed that she wasn't alone and that two other students were freaking out a bit too much. "Calm down, it's just a swelling spell. Gosh! Aren't we wizards and witches and should expect weird happenings? Duh! I don't think screaming at it would do you much good! Stop yelling for the professor!"

"Oy! Purple! I'm without a group now it says. I can't believe a harmless joke could clear a room!" Rafe laughed and he took a seat next to LouAnn. "Us Gryffindors have to stick together! I would love to practice on you... I mean with you... on the spells... of course." Rafe blushed and tried to hide his face a little with his shirt. He placed his peacock feather in front of them. "Shall we?"

Rafe's hysterical laughs gave it all away, Arianna was so furious she could have kicked him in that instant " You think this was funny?!" she said, ignoring his imitation of her voice " I wish the professor had heard, maybe he could take that snobby-know-it-all look from your face!" she raised her nose to the ceiling and slapped the hand he had on her shoulder, looking mad.

She looked at the girls defending her, and discussing either or not, to tell the professor, and she quickly stood up for Rafe, after all.. well, she wasn't really angry " No no, there's no need for that, Rafe and I.. well, we're friends, I'll get back at him at no time, no need to .. take care of me" she said, a little sharply ending the discussion, she didn't enjoy people thinking she couldn't take care of herself, reminded her of her sisters too much. She added a awkward smile, after all she wasn't trying to be rude.

She turned to Rafe with narrow eyes " And you, doggy boy" she said, refering to that day back at Diagon Alley " I'll take your advise on that reading books stuff, and I'll try them all on you!" she said poking him on the chest as she noticed him ruffling his hair. That's new.. she thought, throwing her braided hair back and pointing her wand at her, now, normal sized feather and saying " Duro!", which turned the feather into a perfect stone feather. Apparently, determination and anger made her control her wand better.

"Hey Kay" Marie whispered "you need to say Flexi to remove the Duro spell, watch this." Marie pointed her wand at the spoon and said "Flexi" and watched the stone disappear as the spoon turned back into plastic.
Now it was Marie's turn to try and turn her unicorn to stone. She placed the stuffed animal on the floor and took a deep breath. "OK, I can do this" she said more to herself than anyone else. Looking at the unicorn she kept repeating to herself you will turn to stone, you will turn to stone. Suddenly she said "Duro" as she pointed her wand at the unicorn. She felt the unicorn but to her dismay only the horn had turned to stone. "Rats" she said "I was really hoping I would get this on the 1st try. Oh well, I guess I will have to keep practicing." She readied herself again but this time she put more power behind it, "DURO" she shouted pointing the wand at the animal. This time the unicorn moved just slightly on the floor. When Marie touched it now the whole thing had been turned to stone, cold, smooth stone. "YEAH" she shouted forgetting she was in a classroom with others, "I did it, I turned the unicorn to stone!" She looked around to see if Rafe was still here hoping he had seen what happened. Not seeing him though she pointed the wand back at the unicorn and said "flexi" turning the animal back to its soft, stuffed form.
As she looked around Marie noticed that the classroom was emptying out pretty fast. She turned to the other girls in the group and said "I guess we should put our things away and leave too. I think we all need to get some rest after this class today." Marie took her feather and stuffed animal and put them back in their boxes then she packed up her books and wand and headed for the door. As she hurried out the door she told Kay and Kita "thanks for being my partners, I'll see you in the next class." She then told Arianna that she would see her back in the common room later.
Now Marie had time to think about how she was going to get Rafe back for his little practical joke in class today. This was going to be fun, Marie was always up for a good joke, as long as it was in fun and not to really be mean. Well most of the time that was.

Kita agreed to the spoon and walked to the space where they were working before. "The unicorn will be a bit harder to turn into stone but it'll be a bit more interesting," she said. She saw Kay turning the spoon into stone and rose up to the challenge. Kita looked at the spoon and tried to stop thinking about food. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, opened them again and said, "Duro!" The spoon seemed to changed and she smiled. She touched it and found it to be stone cold. Perfect. She muttered the counter curse and looked at how Marie was doing. "Wow!" she said when the stuffed animal turned to stone. "Well done Marie! That's brilliant!" Kita agreed with packing up and went to put the spoon away. She got back and packed up her things. "You're welcome. Thanks for being my partners! See you!" she said to Marie and Kay. She was just about to head out when she turned back and decided to wait for Kay...

The truth was, LouAnn was afraid she'd struggle at Hogwarts since she hadn't been to a proper school in quite some time.

"Me? Bloody wicked and bright? Hmm...," she remarked. "I've been home-schooled for the past two years. I imagine I'm at least a year behind those in my year." She shrugged, then headed to the front of the room to dig through the box that housed the ordinary household items. She returned a few moments later with a small, plastic bowl. "Let's try our luck with this. I'll turn it into stone, and you can change it back." She raised her wand towards the bowl and then jabbed it forwards. "Duro!" The bowl made a half spin, then promptly stopped and turned to stone.

"I wouldn't say that you're behind, it just requires training and bit of extra reading, I love to read! I've actually been studying a bit ahead, maybe we could study sometime? I mean, we're both in the same boat, new to the whole magic stuff and we're both Gryffindors so we would see each other a lot," Rafe said with a smile. He felt like he just made a new friend. She may be older and had a feeling would be much more popular in a couple of months, but there's nothing wrong with being friends, even if she was a girl. Plus, she knew Jack so she couldn't be too bad.

Rafe looked at the bowl. "Hmm..." he took in a deep breath and completely focused, "Flexi!" he said as he jabbed the bowl and it wobbled a bit and turned back to normal. Rafe spotted a cricket in the corner, chirping away, he hated that sound. And that sparked an idea! Rafe went over and grabbed the cricket and put it under the bowl. "We could try it on this little guy!" Rafe said excitedly. "The professor says its a bit of a challenge to use live objects. Wanna try?"

Rafe looked over at Ari once more, waiting for LouAnn's answer.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what was that?" he pointed to Ari's shoulder, "I think a piece of ice just chipped off, that was cold!" Rafe said in reference to her "snobby-know-it-all" comment. Rafe laughed a little.

Rafe loved it that Ari stood up for him. That was a sign of a true friend. And she did have a point she didn't need anyone to take care of her, she was a tough girl. "I couldn't have said it better myself!" Rafe said as he put his arm around her shoulder once more. "Us, Racketeers have to stick together!"

Rafe quickly removed his arm from her shoulder as soon as she called him "doggy boy." Rafe figured she didn't mean it intentionally, how could she possibly know? But, it made him feel uncomfortable a little and frankly, upset. His whole demeanor seemed to change. He was worried about speaking cause he knew he would sound like a jerk. Sparks came from the tip of his wand. He shook his head, a bit like an animal did when they were drying off. He just needed to snap out of it.

He watched as Arianna changed the feather completely to stone. "Good job Little Italy," he said a little more cheerfully. "Would you like to join me and LouAnn? We're thinking of changing a cricket to stone!"

She was just about to head out when she turned back and decided to wait for Kay...

Kay started to pack up her things. "Thanks Marie for your help. That unicorn thing was brilliant like Kita said. Tell your friend Arianna that we only wanted to help." She said as she pick up her bag. "Class was different to say the least." Kay waved her hand at Marie and run to catch up with Kita. "Was that class something or what?" she said. "I so hungry lets go" Kay said to Kita with smile. Kay thought until next class, Marie. Kay really want to talk to Kita about Marie acting the way she did. Something wasn't right and she couldn't put her finger on it.

"You too," said Lucille, blushing slightly. "Erm..i don't really mind. What do you think?" wow, she was indecisive. "Erm, should we try something else, or...er...you chose."

STOP IT! she told herself. BE NORMAL!

Ana was distracted playing with the feather, well actually trying to tickling herself, and like everybody knows that is kinda difficult. Sunddely the teacher gave them new instruction, so she decided to try to work on the feather and quick.

Ana pointed her wand and said "Duro!" nothing, it would be too much to ask this to work at the first time. "Duro!" she said again this time the feather turn hard... like a stone. "Flexi!" Ana said pointing the wand right to the feather and it turned to its original state.

Time for something more consistent she said heading to the boxes.

"Yeah," Kita agreed. "That class was totally different! It was so cool, though!" She smiled back at Kay and said, "Yeah. I was getting really hungry in that class." She noticed Kay thinking about something and was about to say something when she decided to drop it and ask later. Or if Kay wanted to ask her, then she'll ask in her own time. Kita followed Kay out of the door and towards the Great Hall...

Carter continued trying to to turn objects to stone. "Duro." he said jabbing toward the feather with his wand. He smiled as it harded. YES!!

So a snail would be harder to turn to stone than a feather, but a bird would post more of a challenge than a snail.."

"Once you change a living creature into stone, though, only very rarely is it possible to turn it back. That's why we're learning on candy and household objects. And feathers."

"Oooh." Ema nodded in understandingness. "That makes sense...thank you." she thought a little bit. "Just another quick question though, if you don't mind, Professor...when someone or something living is turned to stone, is he, she or it aware that they have been turned to stone? Do their brains still function? Can they see with their eyes and understand the situation? Or are they just as any old block of stone?" Either way it would be a shame. On one hand, they would know what was going on and be able to think and see and stuff, but on the other hand, they would be tormented by it.

"And if they were able to think and stuff while they were turned into stone, would they be able to produce a unspeakable spell thingy to change themselves back?" she asked.

Tiberius skipped to the front and grabbed a peep and, rummaging through the box of miscellany, a ball of yarn.

Setting the peep on the table, Tibi paced backward from it, imagining it turning to stone. He imagined the change in appearance, texture, weight and consistency. Brandishing his wand, he gave a quick jab and cried, "Duro!" With a soft 'pop' the peep had taken on the appearance of stone. Walking over to it, Tibi picked it up and noticed that it was, indeed, like stone. Smiling, he whispered a happy 'I'm getting the hang of this!' to himself and place the peep back down. "Flexi!" And just like that, the peep was back to normal. Sticking it in his pocket for later, Tibi turned to the ball of yarn.

He thought about just turning the ball as it was.. but then he thought about how it might look if he made a SHAPE with the yarn and then turned that shape to stone. Unraveling a large portion of the yarn into an abstract web of sorts, Tibi stepped back and prepared to practice the spell again.

He thought about how the yarn would look as a stone abstract piece of art as he jabbed. "Duro!" Walking back over to it, Tibi scrunched his face. The effect was cool, but he didn't quite like how a few pieces were laying. Realizing he could reverse the spell and try again, he smiled. "Flexi!" Once the yarn was re-shapeable, Tibi placed it how he thought it would look better. Concentrating once more... "Duro!" There, that was amazing.

Tibi frowned. He'd have to turn it back and put the yarn back in the box even though he wished he could keep it. But in the meantime, he thought he'd let it sit and enjoy a peep. Popping the marshmellow in his mouth, he wondered whether it was just his imagination or if it did taste a little like sand...

When it came to Transfiguration, Daphne didn't really have much of an ambition. Large household items like a toaster or a blender weren't things she had any plans on practicing on. She'd start small; with a butter-knife for example.

Clearing her throat, Daphne shook her wand arm before patting her cheeks for non-existent sweat. Pointing at the silverware, Daphne raised a challenging brow. "Duro."

And I dare you not to turn to stone butter-knife.

But it did turn to stone, and for that the blond was thankful. Not so bad. Not so bad.

"No, they would not," Svensson replied.

"All right, everybody," Professor Svensson clapped his hands to get the attention of the remainder of the class. "That's enough practicing. Off you go, and I'll post the homework on my bulletin board as soon as I put these desks back." The transfiguration professor shooed the students out the door and shut the door behind them.
