Kay smiled a little and put her spoon on the floor. She stepped back and pointed her wand at it. "Duro!" Kay said with a little jab. She bend down to look at the spoon and smiled to herself. Stone, that was great. Kay was getting the hang of this. "Finite." Kay said. "Ok, Kita you want to give it a go?"

Noticing the way the girl looked really down and upset, LouAnn perked up and gave her a reassuring smile. "Well, the good news is that you have the incantation correct. That's a really good start," LouAnn assured her. She could still remember when she'd been eleven-years-old and just starting to learn magic. It'd been tough at times, and there'd been a lot of frustrating moments, too. "Okay, here's what we'll do. Go and grab another object to work on. When you come back, I'll help you try and cast correctly this time. Maybe you're not concentrating enough," she suggested. "You have to try and focus only on the object you are casting on and block out everything else."

"It's no problem, I've been practicing a lot of the basic spells in between classes, this one's a bit harder," Rafe poked the stone feather, "Flexi!" And the feather went back to a regular feather. "I wonder if we're going to try this on each other!" Rafe said excitedly. "I think it would be awesome to be cast in stone, like after I died of course...I would be remembered forever in statue!" Rafe sighed. He was such a daydreamer. He always wanted to be better and leave his mark on the world. He had been all over Europe and met some of the most fascinating wizards and people would by them drinks and tell legendary stories of them. That's what he wanted, to be known throughout the wizarding world.

"I suppose I should lighten up on the mischief a bit, well...at least in class, I wouldn't want to lose points for Gryffindor," Rafe bit his lower lip. Something he did when he got nervous. "So, you're pretty much a newbie too right?" Rafe asked leaning in a little. Rafe thought it was cool to "transfer" in, whatever that meant? Maybe he could transfer to other schools to expand his knowledge...but who would want to leave Hogwarts?

While she waited on the first year girl (whose name she still hadn't asked about) to go and get another object, LouAnn turned her attention back to Rafe. "Thanks," she said, noticing how he'd turned her feather back to its original state. "Now, let me see if I can do that, too." Once again, LouAnn focused all her attention on the feather laying just before her. In her thoughts, it was just her and the feather. Everything else had been blocked out. She jabbed her wand towards it and called out, "Duro!"

She turned back to Rafe and gave him a pleased smile. "Now, time to reverse this, hmm?" She glanced to the side to see if the Gryffindor girl had returned and then, not seeing any sight of her, jabbed her wand towards the stone feather. "Flexi!" she said, jabbing forward with her wand. When it turned back to its original state, LouAnn held it up in the air and smiled again. "I did it," she said to Rafe. "Kinda cool...for me, at least. I thought it'd be much harder."

"So why is it you like creating mischief so much?" she asked. She was honestly curious as to why he enjoyed it so much, but then again, he was a first year boy. He was a year older than Lucas, and LouAnn could imagine her younger brother acting pretty much the same way. "...and yeah, I'm new here. I just moved about three weeks before you and I met in Diagon Alley. It's been sort of a hard transition, too." Making friends was always easy for LouAnn, but it was the 'fitting in' part that was hard. Everyone seemed to always congregate in little cliques, and LouAnn didn't exactly belong to any of them.

Having turned her feather many times back and forth between stone and feather, emily decided to go get a peep, she picked one out of the box and set it in front of her
"duro" she said jabbing her wand at the peep, forgetting her wands length she poked it and pushed it a few inches, claming down she tried again
"duro" and there stood a peep of stone. "yessss!" she said
"flexi" and it was once a again a marshmallow
"doro"
"flexi"
Duro"
Flexi"
after several more repeated times the child like amusement was over, she decided she had enough practice for now

Staring at the spoon for a second, she hesitantly picked it up and examined it. "Well, not what i was originally planning on doing." she said at last, her face set into a pout. "It looks so...Gryffindorish." Turning her head towards Josh. "Do you want it?" Evelyn asked, offering over the glowing spoon.

''Less boring...''
Josh leaned over the desk more wondering what the spoon would turn into. Maybe somethnig to eat, although it was rather a subject to debate whether he'd eat anything that was previously a spoon. Yes, he would, no debate. He got surprised, at first, when the spoon changed its colour glowing than enjoyed it a lot laughing loudly ''Wicked!''. Rose was, for sure, a very talented witch as much as a pretty one. And he gladly took the red and yellow glowing spoon as she offered it. ''I just had the impression that i am the only Grffindorish thing you bother to have around you''

Anna went and got a sugar pot this time and brought it back to the table. "Now what do we do?"

"Yup, pretty much." Evelyn laughed. "You and your cloak that is." she joked, poking his shoulder. Looking to see where the professor was again, she summoned two peeps, handing one to Josh. "Think you can handle not eating it?" setting her own marshmallow in front of her, concentrating on glowing green and silver colors and using the same wrist flick as she did with the spoon.

"Alright, so here's what you'll need to do. Focus on the pot and only on the pot. Try your hardest to block out everyone and everything else. When you've done that, you should be able to cast the spell correctly," LouAnn suggested. "I think maybe you're not doing it correctly, because you're not putting all your focus into it. Try doing that and see what happens." LouAnn stepped back from the pot and motioned towards it. She watched and waited to see what would happen when Anna tried the spell again.

Rafe admired her concentration. She seemed so focus. She changed the feather to a stone and then changed it back. "Yay!" Rafe said cheerfully. "Congratulations! That was bloody wicked!" Rafe felt like hugging LouAnn for some reason he was happy for her and happy for him. He loved magic, it was such an accomplishment when you did something right. Instead he simply patted her on the back.

Why did he like to cause so much mischief? Hmm... he had never been asked that before. "Well, I suppose I like to test my boundaries and experiment a little bit," Rafe shrugged, "Magic is just so fascinating, it can be...hmm...I suppose useful." Rafe gave a wide smile.

"Hard transition? But, you're so beau...baaaahright. Bright. I mean you seem like a smart girl. You have mad skills with a wand," Rafe bit his lip. "But, I know what you mean. It's been interesting trying to meet people." Rafe forced a smile. "I've tried to take a few risks, but it's a bit hard... a lot of people seem set in their ways. If you know what I mean?" Rafe just realized that he mainly socialized with people older than him. He guessed it was something he was used to, because his mum and him only hung around adults. He only had one true friend his age, and it was difficult getting together because they were in seperate houses.

After many tries Lyddia had finally managed to tranfigure her feather into stone. Grinning by accomplishment of this feat, Lyddia jumped out of her chair and made her way over to the box of marshmallows, taking one and coming back to her seat.

She stared at the marshmallow wondering if it would be any harder. Shrugging, she pointed her wand at the marshmallow, made the jabbing motion and said, "Duro."

The marshmellow turned into some weird state of half-marshmallow, half-stone. Giving the...thing a taken aback look, Lyddia tried the spell again.

And again.
And again.

LouAnn lightly laughed at all the compliments he was giving her. She wasn't used to being complimented so much. She was just plain, ordinary LouAnn---the girl with a weird last name who moved around way too much for her own good. The truth was, LouAnn was afraid she'd struggle at Hogwarts since she hadn't been to a proper school in quite some time.

"Me? Bloody wicked and bright? Hmm...," she remarked. "I've been home-schooled for the past two years. I imagine I'm at least a year behind those in my year." She shrugged, then headed to the front of the room to dig through the box that housed the ordinary household items. She returned a few moments later with a small, plastic bowl. "Let's try our luck with this. I'll turn it into stone, and you can change it back." She raised her wand towards the bowl and then jabbed it forwards. "Duro!" The bowl made a half spin, then promptly stopped and turned to stone.

Mina was beyond pleased with herself. After successfully turning her feather into a stone numerous times, she moved on to trying to change the peep.

Setting it on her desk, she made the jab motion and recited. "Duro". The little peep hardened slightly. Not completely a stone. "Well, it's a start," she thought to herself. "Flexi."

Taking a breathe, she nodded and started again.

"When you've successfully transfigured a feather and something else into stone, you can try changing them back into themselves if you haven't already," Svensson told the class when he still did not notice any grievous errors in their spellwork. "If you used a peep, you can keep it, but please return the feathers and other materials to their proper boxes."

"After that, you may go." As an afterthought, Svensson added, "Homework will be posted soon. Be on the lookout."

ooc: class will be closed sometime tomorrow. you can practice the spell and ask related questions until then.

Emalyn's jaw dropped.

SHOOOOOOOOT!! She hadn't taken a peep because she thought she wouldn't be able to eat it! Nooo!! Stupid Ema!

Oh well. She would find candy elsewhere.

She nodded after receiving the instruction and set to work of turning the spatula and the feather back to normal. "Sir," she said, after a little bit of thinking. "Are humans or living things harder than objects to transfigure with 'Duro', or does it just depend on size and weight?"

She jabbed the feather and muttered "Flexi" under her breath. The feather turned back to normal. Satisfied, she turned to the spatula and gave it a poke with her wand. "Flexi," she said again. It developed back into it's orange, plastic form. "Yay!" she held it up and admired it again. Oooooooh orrrannngeeeenessss!! She returned both the feather and the spatula to their places, and started to pack her book bag up while she waited for an answer from Professor Svensson.

Zoe had a row of stone peeps sitting in front of her. Others had been turning there objects back for some time, but she was so nervous that she would make a mistake that she hadn't attempted to turn any of them back.

Her success to perform the magic that she had thus far at Hogwart's astonished her. She knew that she was a witch from a very young age, but she still couldn't believe that she was here.

With a determined look on her face she tucked her dark hair behind her ear and pointed her wand at the first peep and muttered, "Flexi".

Ratel 09-25-2009 06:00 AM

Arrick melted another feather and burnt up an unfortunate peep before finally managing to petrify the second peep...at least, he assumed he managed, as it had gone grey and hard but felt more like a piece of spongy pumice than a rock. Deciding this sufficed, he was now attempting to unpetrify it, poking it and muttering the incantation under his breath. His wand was beginning to make fizzing noises as he got impatient.

Stone, that was great. Kay was getting the hang of this. "Finite." Kay said. "Ok, Kita you want to give it a go?"

Marie watched as Kay turned her spoon to stone, however she noticed that when Kay tried to turn the spoon back to its original state she used the wrong counter curse. "Hey Kay" Marie whispered "you need to say Flexi to remove the Duro spell, watch this." Marie pointed her wand at the spoon and said "Flexi" and watched the stone disappear as the spoon turned back into plastic.
Now it was Marie's turn to try and turn her unicorn to stone. She placed the stuffed animal on the floor and took a deep breath. "OK, I can do this" she said more to herself than anyone else. Looking at the unicorn she kept repeating to herself you will turn to stone, you will turn to stone. Suddenly she said "Duro" as she pointed her wand at the unicorn. She felt the unicorn but to her dismay only the horn had turned to stone. "Rats" she said "I was really hoping I would get this on the 1st try. Oh well, I guess I will have to keep practicing." She readied herself again but this time she put more power behind it, "DURO" she shouted pointing the wand at the animal. This time the unicorn moved just slightly on the floor. When Marie touched it now the whole thing had been turned to stone, cold, smooth stone. "YEAH" she shouted forgetting she was in a classroom with others, "I did it, I turned the unicorn to stone!" She looked around to see if Rafe was still here hoping he had seen what happened. Not seeing him though she pointed the wand back at the unicorn and said "flexi" turning the animal back to its soft, stuffed form.
As she looked around Marie noticed that the classroom was emptying out pretty fast. She turned to the other girls in the group and said "I guess we should put our things away and leave too. I think we all need to get some rest after this class today." Marie took her feather and stuffed animal and put them back in their boxes then she packed up her books and wand and headed for the door. As she hurried out the door she told Kay and Kita "thanks for being my partners, I'll see you in the next class." She then told Arianna that she would see her back in the common room later.
Now Marie had time to think about how she was going to get Rafe back for his little practical joke in class today. This was going to be fun, Marie was always up for a good joke, as long as it was in fun and not to really be mean. Well most of the time that was.

"All right." Nataly answered, and took a delicous looking peep out of the box.
Can we eat them after the class is over? she wondered silently and licked her lips.
She aimed her wand at the peep. "Duro!"
The peep turned into marble again, but something was missing.....His tale was still marsmellow!
Before anyone noticed, Nataly aimed her wand again at the peep, and whispered "Duro!"
This time, the peep's tail became marble. Nataly sighed in relief.
"I did it!" she squeled exitedly. Not again.

Just then, proffesor Svensson told them to change their peeps and feathers back. Yes! We may eat the peeps!
"Lets turn our peeps into marshmellow first, and only after that we'll turn our feathers back." She suggested, looking proudly at her marble feather and peep.

emily changed her peep back to a marshmallow, this being her fifth or sixth time having done it perfectly, she then popped it into her mouth then picked up her bag and skipped out of class, just as she was near the door she turned around "thanks for the lesson proffesor it was really great" she said then turned around hitting her head on the door frame, Rubbing her head she walked out of the class.

Why, Cela thought, didn't they just conjure the feathers themselves? She made up her mind to do exactly that when she was back in her dorm. What on earth was a peep though? She eyed them curiously. It was like... marshmallow and... a cute little bird thing, but it didn't move. Muggle candy then? Cela pocketed a few, intending to charm them to be a little more interesting later.

She got up and rummaged through the 'other' box, then found a rubber spatula. Fun. She could... spatulate stuff.

Returning to her seat she jabbed her wand at the spatula. "Duro!"

Of course it turned to stone. She held it up and examined it for a bit then pointed her wand and jabbed it again. "Flexi!"

Spatulaaaaaa.

She flexed it against the desk and just continued turning the thing into stone, returning it to normal and then flexing it again.

Homework nao plz.

She gave professor Svensson a quick glance and made her mind up to go bug him later.

Evelyn was concentrating hard on the green and silver colors, only to be interrupted by Josh speaking. With a flick of her wrist, she glance over at him, temporarily losing her concentration, and when she looked back, the marshmallow was glowing red and yellow like the spoon. Staring up at the ceiling and letting out a frustrated breathe, she switched her marshmallow with Josh's and tried again, concentrating hard on GREEN and SILVER colors.
"Green and silver...green...and silver..." she said every time she flicked her wand at the peep.

Evelyn gave up. As soon as Josh spoke again, she lost her concentration, resulting in the familiar red and yellow colors. She stared at the glowing peep. And stared. And stared some more, before calmly scooting it towards Josh. "We can go?" she asked, looking up at him. 'Guess i was too deep in thought to hear the teacher.'

"Living things generally take more skill and concentration to turn into stone, though once you've mastered the spell, it feels simple enough," Svensson answered the girl. "Mostly it depends on the size and weight, as well as how complex the object--or organism--is. So a snail would be harder to turn to stone than a feather, but a bird would post more of a challenge than a snail.."
