Carter walked in to the Three Broomsticks having been invited by Ella and Jason to join them. (And because those butterbeers were just so darn good.) He spotted Ella at a table with some others. He waved and went over to the counter. He bought a butterbeer and then joined them. "Hey." he said to Ella and Jason and then looked around the table at the others.
