Firm? Tibi wasn't sure if he'd ever said anything firmly in his life. He looked around. So many of his classmates were getting their brooms up in the air with ease. This is just like muggle gym class, he thought glumly. Can't manage to do anything that the others can do. Desperate, and annoyed, Tibi shouted, "Up!" at the broom, and much to his surprise, found it in his hand a moment later. While he was pretty sure that wasn't exactly how he should do it, he'd take what he could get. Now came the scary part. Keeping his feet on the ground, Tibi straddled the broom and hooked on his harness - just in case. Clutching the broom for dear life, Tibi awaited what was next. Small beads of sweat formed at his temples. He was on a broom. The only thing that could be next was... flying. GULP |
"Good . . . good! Before you push off, let me give you some basic instruction on how to maneuver the broom in the air," Vindictus began and mounted the broomstick he was carrying around. He pushed off so that he was hovering one foot above the ground. "To make your broom move forward, lean slightly over the broom handle. The closer you are to the handle, the faster you'll go. To slow down, sit upright as you pull the broom handle towards you. This can help you stop and hover in the air." He leaned forward and zoomed around so that the class could see what he meant. Then he stopped. "Did you notice how I pointed the broom handle in the direction I wanted to go? That's called steering and you must keep both hands on your broom handle at all times." Vindictus flashed his famous smile at the class. "I think everyone has an idea of what I mean. To become airborne, push off gently with your feet and I want each of you to fly around the practice area. Try landing and taking off. Try to stop in mid-air. Practice turning in the air, but absolutely no racing or attemping the Starfish-On-Stick move." |
Sabrina Evanstar stood on one side, clutching a broom in her arms, utterly petrified. The seventh year was ... not scared, exactly, just ... absolutely terrible at flying. She'd fall off and just break her leg or something. Mount a broom? She can do this ... she CAN do this. She can DO this ... she can't do it. Sabrina hadn't mounted a broom since .... she was ten. Gulping, the blonde positioned the boom so she could mount it and tried to hold it firmly, but she was shaking. WHY was she here? Why was Sabrina trying to learn how to fly?! What was even the point? Biting her lips, the seventh year Ravenclaw mounted her broom, her hands and knees shaking. OOOH no. Not good. NOOOT GOOD. |

Bella then pushed off the grown and started to hover. "This was so cool!" she thought. I should have tried this much sooner in life! So then Bella began to lift a little bit higher up and started to move slightely, then she tried doing it a little faster. She didn't realize how simple it could be, but you have to keep consentrating, wich as hard for Bella, since she always wonders off. Concentrate, consentrate She began to wwoble a bit |
going to sleep; will respond to rescuing in the morning ;-) Push off? Looking at the professor, and then at Plymouth, Tibi swallowed, a lump forming in his throat. Bending his knees and closing his eyes, he held his breath. He let his knees extend again, but left his feet firmly on the ground. Opening one eye, and peeking down, Tibi noticed he was still on the ground. Hmmph. Exhaling sharply, Tibi berated himself. "No good, scaredy cat, lousy excuse for a wizard." He mumbled under his breath. Closing his eyes again and gripping his broom so hard his knuckles turned white, Tibi pushed off from the ground and felt his stomach drop out from underneath him, like when you take a sharp drop on a rollercoaster. His eyes still shut tight and refusing to open, Tibi began to shake. He could swing his feet. He was off the ground, but had no idea how high. As his arms quaked, he began to panic and sway a little, having trouble keeping his balance as he hovered. He wanted to lean over and cling to the broom, but he realized that would only make it move. How did he land? THEY DIDN'T TELL HIM HOW TO LAND. Cue panic attack. "Gemme down gemme down gemme down!" Eyes still clenched shut, but with tears leaking through at the corners, Tibi didn't know that he was only six inches off the ground. "Gemme down gemme down gemme DOWN! |

"Just sit up somemore, that should do it," said Bella with her light voice, hoping it would help him. |
Woo hoo! They could actually fly now. Not that this would be his first time, but it was nice to fly without feeling under pressure. Hmm, Starfish-on-Stick move, he would have to try that later... Rafe kicked hard with his feet and leaned close to the handle, gaining more and more speed. It felt amazing the wind was blowing fiercely through his hair. He did a barell roll at an amazing speed holding on tightly. "Yipee!" he shouted. He quickly straightened up and came to a halt. He hoped he wasn't over doing anything. He whipped his broom around his broom in a swift u-turn and came to see how everyone else was doing. He noticed a few of the students struggling a bit. He first noticed a much older student. Quote:

Evelyn waited as patiently as she could for the professor to finish speaking to the class. Finally, when he gave the queue for the rest of the class to fly, she didn't need to be told twice. Kicking up off the ground, she hovered in the air for a second, remembering that she forgot to put her hair up so it wouldn't get in her face. Rolling her eyes and sighing irritably, she touched back down to the ground so she could put her hair up. After mounting and pushing off her feet one more time, she zoomed around the class before moving a little further out, going a little higher as well. It felt so nice to be flying again! Leaning further on her broom, she flew faster around the practice area, feeling the rush of wind against her face and the quick beating of her heart. Smiling slightly, she made a sharp turn to fly back closer to the class, not wanting to move too far away in case of getting in trouble by the professor. Moving higher towards the sky, she suddenly stopped and hovered in the air, looking out at the rest of the students and the castle grounds. It really did look different from up in the air, and a lot more beautiful. She could see the lake, with the sun shining against the water, and the castle looked even bigger then ever. Evelyn sat on the broom, still hovering in the air, taking in the scenery, forgetting about the class for a moment. |
Gah!! This was a totally ridiculous idea but if he wanted to get over this stupid fear he had then he was gonna have to push aside his pride and just suck it up basically. Trying his hardest not to draw attention to himself, Professor Lawson made his way quietly over to Professor Vindictus and took a deep breath. "I know that is not the norm or anything but I kinda have this fear of flying and I was you know hoping that you might help me with that." Oh Merlin someone hex him right now. |

"Geez mate why not tell the whole world why don't ya." Marcus, looked nervously over to the students and the color drained from his face as he turned back to Max. "Your kidding right?" He followed the man's gaze towards...oh bloody hell! Plymouth Morgan. Oh this was just getting better now wasn't it. "Guess I'm going to have to." Taking a deep breath Marcus, walked over to Plymouth 'the boy with the whistle'. |

From up in the air, Evelyn shook her head, breaking out of her trance of staring at the castle grounds. Gripping her broom, she went into an almost complete nose dive, before straightening out the broom just before getting too close to the ground. Flying speedily around the area, she noticed someone else had joined them. "Professor Lawson?" she said to herself, looking back towards the two professors and not paying attention to where she was going. 'Wonder what he's doing here.' she thought, turning back forward and suddenly stopped the broom. If she went any further, she would've ended up like the thing in the little picture the professor showed in the begging of the class, although instead of a post, it would've been a tree. "Okay, paying attention is a good thing." Evelyn mumbled to herself, trying to get her breathing even, and landing on the ground. She started walking towards the class again, looking up at the sky and glancing around her surroundings. "And...walking is too slow." Quickly mounting her broom again as she walked, she flew over and around the are one more time before coming to a halt, hovering and staring out to the lake. |
Excited that he finally gets to get off the ground. He does as the professor says. Pushing off from the ground gently with his feet, JD soars upward about 4 feet off the ground. With a grin, he leans forward, and zooms off to the other end of the pitch. Trying to contain himself from squealing, he grins at everyone around him, his eyes glistening with excitement. He absolutely cannot wait to write a letter to his parents, and tell them how exciting it was to actually be able to fly, on your own accord. It was EXHILARATING!!! Pulling back just slightly, because he figured if he tried to turn without slowing down, he'd probably fly off his broom. So he slows a bit, and gently leads the broom to turn to the right, and getting back up to speed, heading the other way. |

The broomstick jumped about six feet into the sky. The shock of it made Edem lose his balance, but he quickly grasped the broomstick's handle with both of his hands, hanging on for dear life. Then, he realized he was sitting quite steady on the broomstick--it was hovering quite parallel with the horizon. He sighed in relieve. Now to practice the maneuvers.. He leaned himself forward a little, and quickly sat back upright when the broomstick gave a jerk forwards. Okay, it was very adrenaline-pumping. He did it slower this time, more carefully. Instead of a jerk, the broomstick zoomed smoothly, and he tried turning left, down, back up, right, down.. THIS IS FUN. He was always good at muggle sports, could it have anything to do with his ease? Keep wondering. He kept zooming around, but not too far, so that if something unexpected happened he could always get help quickly. The maneuvers weren't so difficult to perform, and doing it was just like what he'd always imagined--it's like in the movies! Feeling the wind sweeping him all over, Edem was having the time of his life. |

"Oh har...har. You should have been a comedian Max." Marcus rolled his eyes at the man as he picked up a broomstick. "I would rather take my chances with a werewolf" he muttered under his breath. |

Michelle was now really scared as Professor Vindictus mentioned `pushing off'. Why I came here in the first place, I don't know! What happens if I fall? Trying not to think about the aftereffects of flying, Michelle tried to concentrate on pushing off. She grasped the broom handle tightly, and kicked hard on the ground. To her utter surprise, she realised she was soaring high above everyone else. Chelle didn't even want to look down, or else she'd realise how high she was flying. One moment of joy because she was actually flying! She felt good, but the next moment she realised that she didn't know how to land. Dreading the height at which she was soaring above others, she tried to recall Professor Vindictus's words. She leaned forward a little but that made her move forwards. Panicking, yet trying not to panic, she sat upright again, pulling the broom handle towards her. That was much better, and it made her hover around in the air. Now it was time to ask for some help. `P-p-pro-fessor! Ho-w e-exact-ly do I-I- get b-back down?' she asked, raising her voice a little. She wasn't sure that Professor Vindictus had heard her, as her voice was quivering so badly! It must have been difficult to understand what she was saying. |
Mina took a deep breathe to collect herself. Just mounting the broom had been a task for her. Flying wasn't completely new to her, but flying alone was. Summers riding with her brothers and cousin didn't really prepare her to doing it herself. Exhaling slowly, she kicked off. The broom jumped up into the air, slightly startling her. Managing to gain control, she hovered about three meters above the ground. 'Stay focused,' she told herself. 'Distractions will lead to accidents.' Firmly holding on to the broom, she leaned forward, steering to the right slightly. She flee forward faster than she expected and pulled herself upright quickly. 'Okay, maybe I shouldn't lean so heavily,' she scolded herself. Taking a moment to recollect, she tried again. Leaning forward slightly, she flee in a straight line and pulled up to stop herself. Smiling at herself, she tried again but tried to steer as well. She managed to navigate around the practice pitch a few times before attempting to land. She spanned the ground below and steered herself toward a clear area. Leaning down a little too deeply, she picked up speed. The ground seemed to be coming faster at her. 'Think, silly girl' she scolded herself. 'Focus' Pulling back and steering upward again, she let out the breathe she was holding. 'Okay, let's try this again,' she told herself. Staying as calm as she could, she made another pass over the area she planned on landing in. Slowly, she leans forward steering her broom toward the area. Gently pulling herself upright and pulling her broom toward her, she approached the ground at a slow speed. Completely upright with a firm grip on her broom, she hovered above the ground enough to dismount. Swinging her leg over the broom, her feet touched the ground. 'I actually did it!' she smiled to herself. With her hand still on the broom, she looked up at the sky at all the other students. This was her first run and she was ready to try it again. Stubborn little thing she was. Again, she mounted the broom and pushed off to try it again. |
Keeley droped her broom to te ground nervously, not confident at all. "Up." se said quietly, but the broom didn't even stir. "Up she tried again, and nothing! What if Keeley could never get her broom to come up, and she would fail the class, and she would lose Ravenclaw points, and all of the other kids would laugh and throw things at her?!? She sighed, and quietly pleaded to the broom, "Please, please, please come up." and then, once more "Up" Te broom came up! Well, it half way tere came up, but she grabbed it anyway. She was so happy that her hair and eyes turned chesnut brown! But then, her heart sunk. Push off. Dear Lord, she was gonna die. |
"UP!" Virgi yelled and up it came. She mounted, kicked a little, and hovered. "This is so cool!" She exclaimed. "I will become a quidditch player." She thought. |
"OK...Here we go..."Ginny took a deap breath and she pushed off very gently.."Wow!I'm actually flying!"she said as she jumped up 5 feet above the ground. She looked all the other student trying to fly and she tried too. She leaned herself forward and she flied fast!"Thank god i'm not afraid of speed and heights"She laughed and maneuvered the broom... She leaned right to turn and she navigated her broom around the Quidditch pitch and then she pulled back to stop."ok...cool...Now, how am i going to get back down?"she thought "Alright don't panic...Focus...Focus Ginny!"She whispered. She smoothly pulled her broom towards her and leaned to the right again...But suddenly a student popped up in front of her and she made a fast maneuver to the left and she avoided the crash. She was still going fast and then she pulled her body and her broom back and she slowed down. She approached the ground with slow speed and she mounted. She looked up at the others and she smiled..."That was the best ride!I must do it again!"She said happilly as she swinged her leg off the broom and her hand still holding the broom |
Tori looked down at her broom to her right and said with much conviction, "Up!" The broom immediately jumped up into her hand. She smiled to herself. With one smooth move she swung her leg over the broom to straddle it and gripped the handle with both hands, as instructed. She took a a deep breath and did what the professor told them to do. She kicked off the ground and suddenly found herself hovering. She could feel the slight vibration of the broom beneath her. Tori grinned in triumph. Tori felt the familiar rush of adrenaline just like when she used to play sports, when she didn't know of her magical genes. She leaned forward a bit was off. As the wind whipped her hair back she felt really free. Tori did one lap around the practice pitch and then pulled up on the handle with both hands gripping the handle. She came to a halt in mid-air. She hovered as she reveled in her natural ability to fly. Tori leaned forward again and zoomed off with ease, turning left, then right. She maneuvered with such natural ease that it was just like walking and it almost surprised her. Now it was time to land. Tori pulled on the handle again and hovered for a bit. She wasn't very sure on the landing technique but she had a hunch. Removing one hand from the handle and keeping her balance, she placed it behind her and pushed down on the back of the broom. To her surprise it lowered. Her feet touched the ground and she dismounted. Tori wasn't very sure if that was the exact technique for landing but it worked. |
Virgi came down. "Lets fly together," Virgi said. "Come on sis, it will be fun!" Her sis loved to fly and she did too. At home they were flying buddies. She would never turn her down. |
