| | |  The Office of Professor Valon Kazimeriz, esq.
Please do not post here until the Professor has invited you in. Please use the office doorway thread to knock and gain admittance to the Professor's office. 
The warm interior of Professor Kazimeriz's office is simply lit with a candlelight chandelier. While it is well organized and fastidiously tidy, the floor to ceiling mahogany shelves are overflowing with thick, ancient books and curiosities that the professor has collected during nearly a century of travels. The walls are decorated with tribal masks and other oddities as well as moving photographs of distant lands and distant people. Several photos are of the professor himself, posing with various wizards, witches, hobgoblins, werewolves, vampires and other magical beings.
At the center of the office is a large mahogany desk with a deeply cushioned leather chair behind it. On the desk are a few artifacts, including a glass-encased hand of glory. There is also a quill, blotter and a photograph of a much younger Professor Kazimeriz with a woman and small child.
At the back of the room there is a large, locked, wood and glass enclosed curio cabinet which contains a variety of objects. Each object has a note card describing the object and the curse placed on it. To the right of the cabinet, there is a brass bell dangling from a wrought iron hook. In this area, there is also a fastidious workspace featuring a triple-locked glass cabinet housing potions ingredients. On the counter you will find an array of potions-making equipment: phials, alembics, stills,and of course several cauldrons in various states of steaming and brewing. The bookshelves are jammed with many ancient texts: An anonymous treatise on the Philosophers' stone, An hundred aphorisms containing the whole body of magic from Ms. Sloane 1321, Basil Valentine's Triumphal Chariot of Antimony, Advanced Potion-Making by Libatius Borage, Moste Potente Potions, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Compleat Potions by Horace Slughorn, and many others.
Comfortable, overstuffed chairs and sofas are positioned within the office near the fireplace sitting area and across from the professor's desk. The smell of tea and warm sugar cookies lingers in the air, mingling with the scent of the burning pine log in the fireplace and the occasional wafting scent of whatever happens to be brewing at the moment.

Theo smiled and pulled out his wand. It was shiny. And was currently blue. He had read that it went black if he used a naughty spell. But blue was a serene colour. He wanted it to go purple. That would be an awesome choice. He pointed the blue wand at his tongue and mumbled the spell. His tongue chilled alot, he could feel it almost freezing. It formed icicles on the buds at the top. His wand also turned pale blue. Pretty.

"This is... SO UNFAIR!" Jake exclaimed, kicking out at the desk in front of him and crossing his arms across his chest, thoroughly in pout mode, sulking and glaring at Kazi for now, breathing great gulps of air as his chest heaved and he tried to calm himself.

And what was that-- the shiny little amulet that dangled from the boy, the sparkle that had caught his eye? Intriguing. Kazimeriz raised his wand and delicately removed it from the boy, levitating it onto the desk in front of him but saying nothing.

Emalyn gave another glance to the levitating Jake before clearing her throat and remembering what she was there for.
"Oh...oh, right." she tugged on her earlobe again. "Er - I had a potion about a question. I mean, I...had a question about a potion. Well, not a particular potion but I wanted to know if there WAS a potion for a really bad...muggle illness. Let's say - cancer, for example. Is there any remedy to a thing like that, sir?" she stuffed her hands in her pockets to keep them away from her earlobes for a minute. "I was looking up various potions but none were very...specific, I guess."
She busied herself looking around at the office and glancing at a slowly-floating-down-to-safety Jake. "Just you know, as an off hand question..." she added.

"What... whyyoudoingthaaaaat?" he whined, stretching out his hands as if he would somehow reach it. He pulled out his wand and, though he knew he couldn't do the spell, yelled, "Accio! ACCIO!"
Nothing.
Jake threw his wand to the side and stamped his feet. "Give it baaaaaaaack," he whined.

"There are many known potions which are remedies to the illnesses that plague mugglekind. This is why many of these afflictions do not plague the wizarding community. You speak specifically of what they call 'cancer'. Is there a particular reason you ask this, or is it purely academic?"

The tea pot did a little clinking dance, still eager to be given permission from the girl to pour out into the waiting teacup, then looked disappointed at her refusal. "Well, many of our potions would certainly work on a muggle, but by no means all of them. It would be very specific to the disease in question and the potion. Some of our common potions --such as calming draughts -- actually contain ingredients that are toxic to muggles, in fact." He eyed her for a moment, contemplating something. "What type of cancer is it, Miss Daniels?" he asked in a gentle and compassionate tone.

"Toxic to muggles, sir?" ohhh dear this was BAD. "Umm...pancreatic cancer, sir." she felt like a little kid for a moment, like she was almost guilty of something. Well, no she wasn't, not yet.
