Please do not post here until the Professor has invited you in. Please use the office doorway thread to knock and gain admittance to the Professor's office.

The warm interior of Professor Kazimeriz's office is simply lit with a candlelight chandelier. While it is well organized and fastidiously tidy, the floor to ceiling mahogany shelves are overflowing with thick, ancient books and curiosities that the professor has collected during nearly a century of travels. The walls are decorated with tribal masks and other oddities as well as moving photographs of distant lands and distant people. Several photos are of the professor himself, posing with various wizards, witches, hobgoblins, werewolves, vampires and other magical beings.

At the center of the office is a large mahogany desk with a deeply cushioned leather chair behind it. On the desk are a few artifacts, including a glass-encased hand of glory. There is also a quill, blotter and a photograph of a much younger Professor Kazimeriz with a woman and small child.

At the back of the room there is a large, locked, wood and glass enclosed curio cabinet which contains a variety of objects. Each object has a note card describing the object and the curse placed on it. To the right of the cabinet, there is a brass bell dangling from a wrought iron hook. In this area, there is also a fastidious workspace featuring a triple-locked glass cabinet housing potions ingredients. On the counter you will find an array of potions-making equipment: phials, alembics, stills,and of course several cauldrons in various states of steaming and brewing. The bookshelves are jammed with many ancient texts: An anonymous treatise on the Philosophers' stone, An hundred aphorisms containing the whole body of magic from Ms. Sloane 1321, Basil Valentine's Triumphal Chariot of Antimony, Advanced Potion-Making by Libatius Borage, Moste Potente Potions, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Compleat Potions by Horace Slughorn, and many others.

Comfortable, overstuffed chairs and sofas are positioned within the office near the fireplace sitting area and across from the professor's desk. The smell of tea and warm sugar cookies lingers in the air, mingling with the scent of the burning pine log in the fireplace and the occasional wafting scent of whatever happens to be brewing at the moment.

When you are invited in, please make yourself comfortable.

"Yes, they were," Jake spoke a little more firmly now, before shuddering. It was... cold... that was all. Anyway... it seemed that Kazi wasn't about to give back the wands in a hurry, so he sat back in his chair again. "I... sssee... yeah... Just in, y'know... cuh-case someone corners muh-mmmme or something. And I nnnneed extra. That's all. I c-c-can't really do muh-magic anyway... I fffigured that not muh-making the bond with my wand wuh-wouldn't make a duh-duh-difference..."

Yeah... common sense fail.

EEEE! EEEEEEEEEE! He knew! How did he know Jake was avoiding the truth thinger?! Not good.

Well... Jake thought it still deserved a try... He wasn't ready to be called out just yet. ~~And he totally didn't realise that the stones would lookd way more suspicious now he was avoiding having them found.~~

"I... I d-did turn out my pockets... completely..." he stuttered, thankful for his usual impediment, since it covered up the kind he had when he lied. Those seldom times.

You will show me the contents of that pocket --" he gestured with Jake's wand at the pocket that his hand kept going back to "or, I will be writing a letter to your guardian letting them know that you are henceforth expelled from this school for conduct unbecoming, and I shall recommend that you be sent to a school more suited to your incorrigible temperament, such as Durmstrang. As deputy headmaster, it is within my authority to do so. You have tested my patience long enough. Now turn out your pockets."

Staring steadily at Kazi, Jake's hand s-l-o-w-l-y travelled towards his pocket again, stopping dead still at the mention of expulsion. "No," he whispered, terrified of that thought.

It would sooooooo not go down well with his foster mother... because he wasn't planning on telling her anything about what had happened this term.

Okay, so Kazi KNEW he had something in his pocket, so there was no point in denying it anymore, so instead he went with the... truth?

"Please... ssssir. I cuh-can't... It's l-l-like... it ffffeels like something ruh-real bad will huh-happen if I do. You can't expel... I... I c-c-can't help it!"

As he said this, Jake s-l-o-w-l-y pushed his hand into his pocket... and left it there.

Kazimeriz smirked. He had dealt with harder cases than Upstead in his time, make no mistake about that. "Very well." He flicked the wand at the quill, which lifted from its rest and dipped itself in ink, then poised itself over a parchment. "I cannot help you if you do not wish to be cooperative, Mr. Upstead. Please remove your hands from your pockets." He glanced at the quill, leaning back as he began to dictate a letter. "To the guardians of Jacob Upstead. Dear Sir or Madam: I regret to inform you that the child under your care has behaved in a manner most deplorable and in direct opposition to the code of conduct at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite our best attempts, it seems that he is unwilling to comply to the standards of school conduct. He is uncooperative and his behavior has become intolerable. We regret to state that we believe that we can do no more for him at this institution. Therefore..." he paused, sipping his tea and watching Jake as he dictated the letter. The quill zipped along, transcribing the professor's words.

THE OLD MAN WAS SERIOUS!

Starting to breathe a little frantically, hyperventilating almost, Jake ran his free hand through his hair and whacked his fist up against his head, willing himself to think properly. He shook in his chair, hand still in his pocket...

When the professor reached the word 'therefore', Jake suddenly stood up. "STOP!" he cried out frantically, losing control for a minute and exhibiting, for once, a real display of magic. Stupid emotions. The quill Kazi was controlling suddenly moved as if Jake had pulled it across the parchment, striking through the letter so far at large.

He shook again as he took his hand from his pocket, this time holding five stones in his hand. If he had to choose... he'd rather stay without the stones than leave with them. If Kazi took them... he'd easily get them back. "I duh-don't want to go to Durmstrang..." Jake said quietly, his hand hanging limply by his side, the stones quite visible.

Kazimeriz held in a smirk. It works every time. he thought. He did not actually even have the singular authority to expel a student, at least not during Bontecou's active weeks as headmaster, but what Jacob Upstead did not know.... He leaned forward, looking at the stones. They were colored, and did not seem to have any significance, or markings that he could see... ...And yet the boy had fought to keep them secret, nearly to the point of expulsion. And he had felt that disclosing them would cause 'something real bad' to happen.... Why? Are they cursed objects? Another one of Lawson's little fetishes, like the necklace, making the boy feel safe while holding some sort of malevolent dark magic? Kazimeriz's mind, ever suspicious and forever seeking conspiracy, whirled with theories as he looked from the boy to the stones and back again. He made no effort to touch them or take them.

"Tell me." Kazimeriz said, meeting Jake's eyes again. The simple phrase seemed sufficient.

He wouldn't say anything... and not just because he didn't know what the question was all about. These stones were abouut as mysterious to him as to anyone else...

Okay.

So... maybe Kazi wouldn't quite like this answer.

"I don't kn-know," Jake said softly, then, before Kazi got angry again at his reluctance to give details, he quickly added. "Th-they just turned up in m-my puh-pocket... The fuh-first Hogsmeade w-weekend, I remember that. Buh-because I went to p-put something I buh-buh-bought in my pocket... and th-they were there."

Kazimeriz raised an eyebrow, a strange expression flickering on his face -- bemused, perhaps? Whatever it was, he regained a neutral expression quickly. "I see. And at no time did you think it might be a good idea to let someone know that a mysterious object had appeared in your pockets? Or have you learned nothing about vigilance and curses in your time as a student at this institution? They could very well hold dark magic, Mr. Upstead... and you should know better than to even touch an object that appears mysteriously and whose origin is unknown." He looked at them again. "I will not take them from you against your will. But I ask that you surrender them freely, or at least place them into a vessel, away from your physical person. Will you do this?" He eyed the boy, watching him once again like a scientist eyeing a lab rat.

"But, sssir... I d-did... I shuh-showed Puh-Professor Lupa..." Jake said hurriedly, but hoping he wasn't sounding accusatory. "Sh-she said they were ffffine... I tuh-told her I found th-them in mmmy pocket... and sshhee was like, 'Someone puh-playing a puh-prank,'"

Though of course, not with a stutter.

Still the rebuke had somewhat unsettled Jake again, and he put the black stone back into his pocket. "I..." he started, before deciding to duck that particular question and half change the subject. "You wuh-won't tell anyone...? Yuh-you w-won't write t-to my muh-muh-mother, right?"

As he asked this, the hand in Jake's pocket squeezed the stones hard, almost self-concsiously. Some part of him didn't like the fact that he was being told to get rid of the freedom of him and his stones.

"Professor Lupa should have known better." he said darkly. "Will you place them into a vessel? You will feel better once they are not in physical contact with your person, I suspect." He disregarded Jake's question about secrecy entirely.

Shaking his head frantically, Jake wished Kazi would understand him with all this. "Sir, I can't..." he said, not weakly but... quietly determined. "They n-need to st-stay with me..."

Leaning back in the chair, Jake wondered what that little owl was up to... who was Kaz summoning?

"Sir... Yuh-you didn't an-an-answer me..." he pointed out, looking roughly as ill as he felt for a moment. "Don't tell anyone... puh-please?"

Jake sighed for a second, running both hands through his hair, wondering what to do. Kazi was totally ignoring his question, so Jake would ignore his. Eyeing the corked jar thing, Jake sat expressionless for a moment, feeling slightly sick and completely lost on what to do. He nodded slowly, but didn't move to do anything, and continued squeezing the stones.

Just then, Professor Vindictus' patronus messenger entered the office. The silver fox spoke:

Kazimeriz raised an eyebrow. "It appears we have an emergency, and haven't time to quibble about your precious stones at the moment. Come with me, Upstead... And bring that vessel." He rose, grabbing his cane and due to his lost wand, he pocketed one of Upstead's 'extra' wands as well. Without another word he swept out of the room, expecting Jake to follow in his wake.

But they're so much easier to steal that way.

Biting down hard on his lip, Jake took the jar and looked at it for a moment or two, before uncorking it slowly reaching into his pocket and taking out the stones, one at a time, and placing them into the jar, feeling a pang with every clanking sound each made. When the last one, a bright blue coloured one, went into the jar, Jake's breath hitched a little, and he couldn't bring himself to replace the cork.

What if I can't get them out?

"I'd like to go now, sir," he said quietly, voice surprisingly straight and unimpeded. He didn't necessarily care about whoever was coming. And you know, if Kaz refused... he'd go anyway.

Ooooh, lookit. He could go.

He could...

...

"Lawson..." Jake whispered, the colour totally draining from his face. He immediately shoved the uncorked jar of stones back into his pocket, along with the picture of his foster mother, the scraps of paper and the pages from the book. Then, thinking only for a split second, he picked up just one of the wands and shoved it into his pocket.

Normally, he'd complain as to WHY he would have to go with Kazi, but...

But...

Lawson.

Jake headed out of the office and into the corridor, leaving one of the wands on Kazi's desk.

Krissy entered the office first. Still getting too close to Helios she nearly doubled over from pain. Stepping further away from the prince she breathed a bit easier. Determined to prove herself to Kazmiriz she waited quietly to be addressed.

**AFTER SOME TIME**

The weary-looking Kazimeriz re-entered his office, going to his wingback leather chair and settling in. The eager little tea set took immediate action, swooping over and pouring out tea for Kazimeriz. "Thank you so much." he said with genuine affection. The tea pot wriggled back and forth in a happy little gesture, pleased to serve.

He sipped his tea and then looked up. "Please, come in and have a seat. Would you care for tea?" he asked.

Bella walked into the office tentativly. She'd never had a Potions lesson, so Prof. Kazimeriz was new to her. "Yes please" She answered as she sat down. He seemed nice enough. "I was sent here by Proffersor Lawson. I was talking to him about duels and such, and he told me that proffesor truebrige I think, and yourself had an immpresive duel once. He told me if i was interested, I could ask you about it. If you don't want to talk about it, you don't have too..." She added, hoping with all her heart that he did. She Just LOVED duels and such! They were so...Interesting.

Krissy relaxed a bit and smiled. Sitting down next to the first year with a sigh. "Oh tea would be lovely. Thank you professor." She was grateful for his hospitality.

There was a long moment before he entered. One last chance to turn and run away, but he didn't take it. Taking a deep breath, Helios breezed in on the smell of fresh tea, he was quick to take notice of the potions master. "Greetings, sir. Appears there is much to discuss."

Taking a seat before the desk, the young Greek steepled his fingers over his lap, silently hoping that this would go smoothly, and remain civil. Good luck with that...
