| | |  The Dueling Arena
The Dueling Arena is a large, open spaced room with numerous raised platforms for you to practice your wand work and hone your dueling skills. Challenge a friend or practice on your own with the number of dummies placed in the room. Please read the rules below, understand them and abide by them.
RULES
1. Under no circumstances are Unforgiveable Curses to be used or any spell that will cause permanent damage to an opponent (eg. Sectumsempra, Fiendfyre etc).
2. Please do not RP intent for your opponent, an example of this is shown below;
Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light and it hit Copernicus in the chest and he fell to the floor unconscious. (Please refrain from doing this, otherwise I will be forced to delete your post).
A better option is shown below;
Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light, heading in Copernicus' direction. (This gives Copernicus an opportunity to either block the spell or move out of the way or if he is so inclined to let his brother stun him, then he could take the fall ).
3. If you intend to show a little creativity and make up your own spells, which I don't mind so long as you leave an ooc comment at the end of your post describing what the spell is and what it does. (Please keep it as real as possible thank you).
4. Please show respect to the other dueler's in the arena.
5. And most of all have fun! Creativity is always appreciated.
Professor Lawson will be popping into the arena, quite often to see how his students are fairing and will be quite happy to offer any assistance.
ooc: One small favor I ask. Please try and keep it as canon as possible. I don't expect any first year to pull off amazing dueling skills. | |

She sent expelliarmus his way and Varius was sure that was the spell he had mistaken to be the shielding charm in his previous duel - mental note! He watched as milliseconds passed and the spell got nearer and nearer... he was panicking, flopping! He had forgotten about this part of dueling, the actual defending part that is. "ORCHIDEOUS!" he cast.
At that moment in time, the spell was still coming his way and he now had a lovely bunch of roses blossoming from the end of his wand. He quickly ducked in time for the girl's spell to pass him and be out of harms way. That was a close one!
He shook his wand so that the roses fell away and lay on the ground by his feet. He felt like mother nature in some weird mother naturely kind of way. What spell should he send to her? HMMMMMM. HMMMMMMMMMM.
*cues jeopardy music*
HMMMMMM.
"Obscuro," this would be handy if it hit her - she wouldn't be able to see any other spell coming to her from that point on! Well, at least until the spell wore off. "Oh, whats your name by the way?" he said, spinning on the spot, looking up at the ceiling awaiting for something to do again. Maybe asking her questions would distract her?
She could see it. HE WAS PANICKING! That's right, Mr. I can totally defeat you even if I have no idea how to duel. Un-huh. I-
Orchideous?
If Sabrina had been a spectator, she would have burst out laughing. He had summoned roses in the middle of the duel? But she didn't dare laugh. Oh, no she didn't, The girl had to be on her guard, since this boy was obviously experienced. His confidence just told her he had done this before and she had not. WHAT IF HE WAS TRICKING HER?! And she'd start laughing and then he'd attack her. BUT THAT WOULD BE CHEATING!
Err ... right?
And then the threw another spell at her. SEEEEEEEEEEEEE! She was right! He was just trying to trick her then! If she had started laughing, Sabrina would have been too distracted to see this spell coming her way and then she would have been bliiiiinded! During a duel too! Oh, she was sooo onto him, Sabrina was.
EEEEEEEEP! It was coming cloooser. "Protego!" The blonde shrieked, but before she could duck, just to make sure she was not blind through the whole duel, the spell reached her.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *FLAIL*
She was bliiiiiind! She was going to be bliiind to all spells thrown her way? HOW DID THIS HAPPPE- Oh. She was not blind. But everything was bluuuuuury. Well, the shield charm seemed to have reduced the effect of the spell.
BUUUT BLUUUUUURY! She could have ducked! But she didn't.
Now she was going to looooose. To a boy.
Pout. Sabrina Evanstar wanted to cry.

This was working out in his favour.

Ugh. Her shield charm had obviously not been powerful enough to block the spell completely. BECAUSE SHE HAD PANICKED! It was her fault, really. She had called it upon herself by a) panicking and b) not ducking. She was up against a ... possible second or third year Hufflepuff AND SHE WAS HALF BLIND!

Her eyesight was blurry AND SHE WAS NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DUEL ANYMORE! Well, she deserved to be defeated if this continuted on.

He had to admit, he had worried for her for a moment. The spell was getting closer and closer to her and she wasn't reacting! Which was bound to happen when one gets blinded, or whatever the spell had done to her. Luckily though, she set up a shield (a working one, this time) and the spell bounced off it... heading straight back for Varius.
"Oh great," he muttered, unprepared for this. Thinking quickly, he cast the first spell that sprung to his mind, "Diffindo!"
His spell made it's way along the platform and collided with his first, mere feet away. A huge bang erupted from the smash, and the force of it sent Varius flying, also gaining a couple of burns as a result.
"Owwwww," he groaned, getting off his backside so he could a) rub it to make it less sore and b) he needed to continue this duel! He wondered if she had seen any of what he had done? He hoped not! How embarrassing. Burned and bruised from his own stupid idea to PREVENT harm to himself in the first place. It was even worse because he was sure he had made this same mistake from his last duel... he needed to learn how to learn.
He pondered on his next spell and when he finally decided sent the tongue-tying curse her way. This would cover the 'speak no evil' factor.

Bella walked into the Arena. She had been here earlier today, but had to leave when she had hexes flying at her from a friend of hers. She couldn't stop dancing, she winced, thinking how much her legs had ached then. She looked around for someone to Duel with, but took pleasure in practicing with the Lifeless Dummys that surrounded her.
"PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!" She cried, wanting nothing more than that Dummy to freeze and not move...not like it wasn't already, she sighed as the spell hit the Dummy, but nothing seemed to have happened. | |

Timothy walked towards the dueling arena, and looked around, his brother was not in sight...yet. He went through the exercises that Nath had shown him, warming up for the upcoming duel between his brother and himself or whatever of his friends decided to show up first. He hoped that he was ready, but no matter, this was England, there where no whippings to be had if he messed up.
He pulled his wand from his writs holster and practiced the various moves that he had been taught....waiting

Lyra grabbed her bag from beside the stage and hoisted it over her shoulder. She placed her wand back in her wristholster and started to work towards the entrance of the duel arena....

Tori almost passed the class but with a lucky guess and the sound of voices she peered into the room and stepped in. There she saw students with their wands at the ready swishing and flicking and snapping at the wrist, as they practiced various wand movements. It made sense to her that this was the dueling arena where DADA classes would be kept. She made her way in and stood against the wall as she slid her bag off her shoulder.

Abigail smiled glad she’d found the right place. “Thanks. I’m Abigail, I just seen Tavelon in the common room he should here in a bit.” She really didn’t want to duel just now so sate down on the floor and waited for the lesson to start. Quote:

I really haven't" Timothy thought back to the time when he had seen Nath attack Timothy's father, they had dueled alright and Nath had lost...badly, but according to the books and his own ideas on how his father and Nath had fought what he was doing felt and looked right in his own eyes.
"Well cousin Nath fought my dad....at one point.....it was no joking matter however, and what they were doing looked alot like this....."

"Yes lets give it a go then!" Timtohy lined up opposite of Tavelon and prepared his defence, mostly running and jumping...and falling. He looked at the girls that where smiling at Tavelon. Lucky
