And once again, you enter the dank, dark cave that is the Hogwarts potions classroom... but something has changed. Unlike the environment of the previous class, which was characterized by a clash of noxious odors, this time the classroom is filled with...
THE BEST. SMELLS. EVER.
Though the room is still cast in the typical gloom from the flickering candle wall sconces, unlike during the last class this time the air smells sweet, with notes of chocolate, vanilla, fresh coffee, light florals and fresh breezes, newly cut grass... A thousand lovely scents all harmoniously combining to create a symphony of sweet smells. Small flames are burning under a series of cauldrons simmering at the back of the room, and there are the typical rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions:
Quote:
POTIONS CLASS: LOVE POTIONS
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. I expect my younger students are now able to set up their workstations as well; if you need help, please ask an older student.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you.
--Professor Kazimeriz
Class Synopsis:
The class began with a discussion on Love Potions- the theory behind them and their classification.
Then, the students discussed probable ingredients in love potions based on their knowledge of potion ingredients; this lead to the lab assignment, in which the students were to partner with a person of the opposite gender and brew a basic Class XX love potion.
The students received instruction on how to remove infused oils from their pre-treated lovage seeds, and were instructed to work in pairs to complete this task.
Next, the students were instructed to add a single drop of swan blood to the potion, bottled a draught, and sample each other's work. Ah... Love!
it's alright :) I crammed two steps into one post >.>

Wesley let out a nervous giggle, reaching for the container with both hands so she wouldn't spill it. "Right. Sorry." Good thing the Ravenclaw knew what he was doing, "See- you're good at this."
Biting her lip, she carefully poured the liquid into the cauldron and waited for it to heat up. Keeping her dark brown eyes focused on the potion, the Hufflepuff patted her wand comfortingly. Poor thing- it wasn't its fault it couldn't create pure water. She knew it tried its hardest.
Placing her hands back in her lap, Wesley focused on the water. Staring. Staring. Staring. Oh! She looked up as Tibi spoke, watching him crush the fluxweed. "Good?" the small girl said, phrasing her answer as a question. It had to be good, right? The water looked the same as it had earlier, nothing had changed except for her face which was beginning to sweat from all the heat.
"Yours looks good too," Wesley added honestly, looking at the crushed ingredients with awe. "Now...," she stared at the board, "we add them?"
[COLOR="DarkSlateBlue"Tibi squinted up at the board, and then, realizing it would probably be easier to have a copy, scribbled them down quickly, double checking to make sure he hadn't made any copying errors.
Turning back to Wesley, he smiled. "Yep, we add them and then let the water boil." Tibi scooped out the crushed fluxweed and added it to the warm water. The directions didn't say stir, so he didn't, but he wondered if they'd mix all the way through.
But he needn't have worried about that because as it began to boil, the rolling water seemed to mix itself together a little as the bits flipped in the liquid.
Again picking up his quill, Tibi scratched off the first two steps.

Remembering, suddenly, as he felt his hands get sticky sweaty, that he wasn't wearing his gloves, Tibi slipped them on hastily. He wasn't sure what any of this stuff would do to his skin.
"Um," Tibi looked at the directions, and then back up at Wesley. "It says pollen's next." Tibi picked up the 2 drams of pollen and dropped them into the bubbling water. Picking up the stirrer, he stuck it in the cauldron and began to stir. He would keep stirring until the pollen dissolved, the watery mix no longer a roaring boil.
"Lemme know when it turns golden. And then you can do the clockwise and counter-clockwise stirring.. thing." Tibi sighed a little, stirring, his arm a little sore already. It was, though, remarkably easier to do this when he could think straight.
Stupid poison. Kid was never gonna get over that.

Had she agreed with him for... the sake of agreement? Fyo privately thought so, but he only offered her a small, polite smile as she turned her attention back to the potion. This was certainly one of his better subjects. Maybe it was one of her better ones, too?
He let her work with the lovage, and reached for the bloodroots, laying out three of them. These, he split as instructed by their Potions Master, taking his time to scrape out their inner membranes, the same way he had done the term before, for a rather different potion. "Done," he announced, in answer to her question. "Have you brought the potion back to a boil?"
Mmmm, this class smelled GOOOOD, today!
Lucy admired his bloodroot work and checked the potion.
"Yes, it's at a boil. I think we simmer it for five minutes first, though," She said as she searched the board.
"Yes, that's right. And then we can add the bloodroots." Lucy checked her watch so she could tell when the five minutes were up. To pass the time, she looked up at Fyo once again and smiled.
"So...how's life without...you-know-who?" She asked him, hoping he knew who she meant. Obviously life would have to be pretty darned lousy without your best friend around, but Fyo looked tough--and he seemed to have many friends.

"Yes," Fyo agreed, because he remembered the instructions quite clearly. Thank God for a good memory.
You-know-who? Despite the rush of not-so-happy memories, Fyo had to smile. "I've read that was what Voldemort was called, by the general population, in the times he was in power," he said with a handsome grin. "But..." and now his face fell a little. He was not sure if he wanted to answer this question. But it would be rude not to.
"Well, it's pretty fine," he said after a moment of thought. "I have Shana - she was my other best friend." His only best friend now. "I've forged an amazing friendship with Brody Summers, too." Hopefully, she knew who Brody was. "That's it, pretty much."
He glanced towards the potion again. A minute more, and it would be ready for the addition of the apple cider.
"Lovage and fluxweed- excellent, excellent." Kazimeriz nodded. "Change, and loss of impulse control -- both necessary ingredients for a potent love potion."
"It is selfish, absolutely. But whether it is evil, is another matter altogether, although I suppose what is evil is an extremely subjective matter." Kazimeriz added Miranda's suggestion to the board. "Billywig, absolutely. For that feelin of being lighter than air, on cloud nine- again going to euphoria."
"I have seen a few jobberknoll feather-infused love potions in my time, though the general consensus is that they can often cause unpredictable results in the consumer -- affecting the memory is a delicate process, and jobberknoll feathers stewed overlong can actually make the consumer forget that they had love feelings to begin with. Good concept, however." Kazimeriz nodded, adding it to the board.
"I would like you all to attempt to pair up, preferably one boy and one girl at each station. This will be a fairly pleasant lesson, I should suspect. I ask that you do NOT pair up with anyone who you suspect is currently enamored with you-- if anyone spots a known 'couple' pairing up, please alert me and we shall make them regret the choice. You will work in pairs to create a standard Class XX level love potion. The basic formula is on the board:"
He waved his hand toward the board, which changed again:
"Go ahead and get started brewing-- work in pairs, please! I will come around to advise and assist you. Please raise your hand once your potion has turned deep pink or red after the inclusion of griffin dandruff, and we will add the last few steps together for they are a bit more complex."
Isabella was writing down what the professor was telling and then in the end she got a shock of life what! do love potions with a partner? she shook her head.she was getting nervous already and small blush creeping over her face every know and then.what do you expect from a 12 year old anyway.as she got the ingredients ready she looked around if anyone could partner her, because she always difficulty in pairing up for such classes

What color was she supposed to look for again? Yellow? Gold? Light gold, that was it! Cope was supposed to stir, thank Merlin. He'd probably be the first one to notice a shade of light gold anyway.
"Nope," Copernicus shook his head, focusing for a moment on the stirring. The color was good, although he was hoping the stirring would brighten up the gold of their color. It was a BIT pale. "I'm going to university next year to study languages and history. I'm going into Archaeology."

Copying down the formula, Mina looked up with a frown. Boy girl? Really? The boy girl ratio wasn't that even in the class and she wasn't one to fight over a boy for the sheer fact of having a partner. Yes, she did need one, but until she did find one that she didn't fear would take their partnership in the completely wrong way, she would attempt to start on her own. Looking back at her notes, she poured the water into the cauldron and pulled the needed fluxweed from her supplies.

Looking up to check the water, she had a quick sweep of the classroom. She did need a partner and even though, she did feel quite confident that she could do it alone, she feared she would be docked for the sheer fact she did lack a partner. Sighing softly, she continued to work on crushing the fluxweed. Her water was almost to the point of boiling and she did have to add the fluxweed soon. Working as quickly and effiecently as she could, she finished her crushing task and added it to the water. Now to bring it to a brisk boil.
As she waited, she kept her eyes open for a possible partner. Who knew, maybe a late-comer would show. She could wish, right?
Michelle quickly copied down the procedure to brew a love potion. As she listened to what Professor Kazimerez, she felt blood rudh to her cheeks. She choked and gasped-- not that anyone noticed. A girl and a boy???? Why on earth did it have to be a girl and a boy??? Exasperated, she looked around the classroom for a familiar face. Of course their were none. How many boys did Chelle know at Hogwarts? Maybe one or two. Who was going to pair up with her?
The terrible feeling in her stomach warmed up a bit when Professor said that it doesn't have to be someone who you suspect is currently enamored with you. That meant it didn't have to be someone you knew, right??? Relieved, her eyes searched the room frantically. `Umm, does anyone want to pair up with me please?' she asked hesitantly.
Watching people pairing off, Nia was convinced they was a severe gender imbalance in the room. Which was all very well, but now it was more unlikely her ever getting a partner. Why couldn't they make the potion on their own? Surely that would be safer anyway - you couldn't accidently consume some potion and become infatuated with your partner if you didn't have a partner.
Frowning as she realised some people had done a fair bit towards their potion, Nia looked round the room. "Any males need a partner?" she asked doubtfully. Scratch that. "Anyone need a partner?" Maybe a fellow Ravvie girl wouldn't mind pairing up if it meant they could actually start.
Xana, don't want to wait for the answer, assuming we add it later now anyway

"Ummmm until its on the boil again I think?" Cela suggested and peeked through her notes until she found something that made her think her guess was right. "Yup. Until the boil is up and we stick it to simmering. It says slowly so I think you can slow down a little bit? Male it easier?"
She was pretty sure it was boiling now anyway so she lowered the heat so it would be simmering and started an eggtimer.
"You can stop now. Ummmm I'll prepare the bloodroot and you can measure out the Apple Cider, the lionfish heart and the Griffin... dandruff and just have it ready to add when we get to that point?" Cela suggested, making a face at the dandruff bit.
She fetched three bloodroots and had to look in her book to figure out how to split it properly. There was a little nib thingy... she stroked her silver dagger around the top until it caught like the extra notes said that it would and she made a neat and firm slice down the length of the root. It split easily in such a way that the inner membrane only needed to be loosened at a few points for it to come out cleanly.
"Well huh. Would you look at that." Cela murmured to herself, peeking at her brother's notes and then at the very cooperative bloodroot. Every other time she'd had to work really hard at scraping it and always got a little of the outer bit too by accident. She made short work of the three roots, placed them aside and also put her book away, being as discreet as possible.
Because she, who had no insight or particular enjoyment for potions, had totally known that little trick on her own. Yup.

At first slowing and then finally stopping with the stirring, Jake made a disgruntled face as he leaned back again, away from the potion. "I hate this class," he grumbled, grinding a palm against the side of his head. "S'more bbbloody ttrouble than it's wwwwworth. Stresses me out, man," he continued to mutter to himself, before shutting up when Cela told him what to do, and concentrated on the icky ingredients.
It seemed a little bit of a temper was what Jake needed to focus all his attention on something. Without getting distracted once, Jake measured out eight ounces of Apple Cider, checking and rechecking to make sure it was absolutely perfect. He made a face at the prospect of the lionfish heart, but again, just focused on getting the job jone as he minced it away with vigour, not going too far, even in his mood.
"That... if dddddisgusting," the boy muttered, referring to the Griffin dandruff and totally making a face similar to the one Celandine had pulled. It took him a while to work out what a dram was or maybe he was just staaaaaalling but, pretty soon, that was done too, and Jake laid out all the ingredients in order, separated from each other and all contained, before putting a little star on the notes beside those ingredients, since he didn't really... you know... want to cross them off yet.

With the five minutes up, Celandine wrinkled her nose at Jake. Potions was gross. It was. She even liked gross things but not for no reason. She'd spent the past five minutes or so peeking at Copernicus and alternating that with eyeing Jake's blond hair. He looked totally different without the pink, you know?
Anypoop, she dropped the three inner membranes in the cauldron then added the apple cider and lionfish heart that Jake had measured out, not bothering to double check his measurements. They were probably right.
Ooooh.
Purpley.
She wrinkled her nose again. Even though it was kind of pearly and shiny, Cela much preferred pink.

Glancing down at the parchment, Jake saw that all but the last direction was crossed off (except the lovage seeds part), and he knew what that last step was.

Lucy checked her watch again, and the five minutes were up.
"Okay, we can add the bloodroots now," she said to him.
Going back to his other comment, Lucy raised her eyebrows when he told her about Voldemort. Boy, this kid was smart. He could give Rafe a run for his money.
"Ah, yes, Shana, I've heard of her. And Brody? Yes, I've definitely heard of her! Isn't she Torin's ex-girlfriend?" Lucy asked him, glad that this mess up was still going okay for him.
"I think we can add the apple cider and lionfish heart, now , too," Lucy finished, as she watched the contents of the potion.
Delana looked around the room, everyone was paired up except for a few other girls... She decided it was best to start brewing, just in case. It was better to make a potion for nothing than to fall behind everyone else, wasn't it? "Uhh... Professor,"she asked, raising her hand slowly...,"It seems we've run out of boys..."
Kay sat looking around and didn't know who to ask. She saw that the boys were all taken and now what? "Professor I don't have a partern and well can I just make the basic part by myself. I really don't want to fall behind in class?" Kay said with her hand up.

Biting her lip, Wesley watched the solution warily as it began to bubble after Tiberius added the fluxweed. The potion looked angry. But it was supposed to be that way, so that was good.
She sat quietly as Tiberius went to add the pollen, just observing. Stir. Stir. Stir. OH WAIT! Eyes wide, the Hufflepuff opened her mouth in silent shock. She had forgotten to put on gloves! That didn't mean she was going to die, did it? Looking at Professor Kazimirez and hoping he hadn't noticed, Wesley ducked down, reaching inside her bag and pulling on the safety gear.
They where kinda sticky from her last time using them, and she couldn't seem to get them- Oh! Tiberius was saying something, and Wesley sat up, bumping her head against the table. "Ouch!" She rubbed her head with one-half pulled on glove, staring at him in confusion because she hadn't heard the last part. So she looked at his list, and then the potion, which was turning a very lovely golden color. It reminded her of butterbeer. "That's pretty," she said, turning to look at the list once more. After it turns golden you have to stir...Tiberius's doing that...so then I should...wait-bloodroot? Lionfish heart? Suddenly the potion wasn't looking so nice anymore. Wesley glanced at the knife waiting to be put to use, then looked at her partner. "Ummm...Tiberius, you look kinda sore, so I'll stir, and maybe you can cut up the bloodroot and lionfish heart?" she suggested.
Reaching for the spoon, the Hufflepuff stirred very, very slowly. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Lost in the peaceful lull of mixing, Wesley pulled her hand back in surprise as it began to boil again.
So now they had to...wait five minutes. Keeping her eye on the clock, she began to time. The second hand moved fast, and before Wesley knew it the waiting was over.
"Its kind of reddish pinkish. Like... a deep rose colour." Celandine peered at the potion. "I think we're a the waiting for further instructions bit now."
Please no drinking please no drinking.
Cela marked off the parchment that she'd copied down and absently patted Jake's hair for luck.
Nodding in response, Jake remembered what Kaz had said about the whole 'raise your hand when it's that... funny colour'. Okay... so he hadn't SAID that, but the meaning was the same.
Making a little grump face, Jake raised his hand for Kaz to come over and tell them what next... when he felt Cela pat his hair. He turned and stared for a moment, before blinking his confusion away and smiling slightly, glancing at the potion, grimacing again, and turning to look for Kaz.
He was not not NOT drinking that.

And THIS is what happens when you concentrate on picking out individual scents instead of on the lesson. No partner - there were no boys left - and she had wasted precious brewing time. Sighing, she scanned the room again for a male who was alone. It was slightly embarrassing, this whole issue, but at least Reid wasn't here...

Thomas didn't have a partner until... He saw Rachel sitting behind him. The lovely prefect Rachel or should also be known Miss Perfect. "Rachel. Hi, it's me Thomas remember. We did a potion together in the beginning of the year. I was wandering if you'd kindly want to be my partner for this exercise?" he said rather quickly with a fake smile. Probably she'll notice that it's fake because his eyes probably had pictures of black fire in his eyes.

Oh.
Darn it.
"Er - sure?" she replied hesitantly, a little miffed but just a tad pleased. The kid was odd - in the TRUE sense of the word - but he was still just a kid who meant no harm.
Or at least - couldn't harm her even if he wanted to. "All right, so I took the liberty of warming up the water while I waited for a partner to show up," Rachel began, beckoning him to come to her table. "According to the instructions... We now need to crush fluxweed with a mortar and pestle - ok, here you go," she handed him the fluxweed with a smile, for real this time, and turned back to the instructions to see if she needed to prepare something else.
"Once you've finished - drop it in the water and wait for it all to boil... Just follow the next instructions," she said absentmindedly as she read through the potion.

Fyo glanced up at Lucy. He nodded when she mentioned the bloodroots, scraped them up, and dropped them into the cauldron. Inner membranes only, of course - no hard, outer ones.
He was not certain he liked the emphasis she placed on Brody, but let it pass without comment. "Yes, she is," he confirmed, though he did not appreciate that tag - ex-girlfriend. "Brody means a lot to me," he said softly, as he watched the contents of the cauldron swirl in a light sheen of gold. "She is like a best friend, a sister, and an adviser, all at the same time." Shana was one too, but Shanster was... Shanster.
Brody was different in a very special way.
Apple cider, Lionfish heart? As if jerked out of a mini-reverie, Fyo nodded, and he measured exactly eight ounces of the former, and poured these into the cauldron. This done, he began to mince the Lionfish heart, an act he was not certain he enjoyed. Poooorrrr Lionfiiiishiiie.
"You'll need to add griffin dandruff, once I add this," he said, with a grimace, as he looked down at the Lionfish heart.
"Er - sure?" she replied hesitantly, a little miffed but just a tad pleased. The kid was odd - in the TRUE sense of the word - but he was still just a kid who meant no harm.

Thomas rolled his eyes. Why did Ravenclaw have to get the spoiled girl as a prefect so not fair.
He took the fluxweed from the table and began crushing them with a mortar and pestle. She just had to boil the water and what did he do... Crush fluxweeds. Ughhhh.... That girl has a major issue. He tried to act nice to her even though it is extremely hard, but maybe he only knows her evil side and her sensitive side. Wait, how could Thomas even think that this girl had a sensitive side but wait maybe she does have a sensitive side because she has rather a lot of friends and she is a Prefect.
When he finished crushing the fluxweed he asked Rachel, "Is this okay?" showing her the work that he has done.
Biting her lip, Wesley watched the solution warily as it began to bubble after Tiberius added the fluxweed. The potion looked angry. But it was supposed to be that way, so that was good.

As Wesley stirred, Tibi crossed off the steps on his parchment. Next was going to be... bloodroot. Grasping the knife a little cautiously, Tibi slit the roots length-wise and opened them a little to see the inner membrane.
Furrowing his brow, Tibi considered for a minute how to actually scrape the insides out. Looking at his supplies, and then the knife in his hand, Tibi shrugged and used the knife to scrape. Membranes in a pile, they were ready for once their five minutes was up.
"I'll cut the lionfish heart, too, if you measure out the cider and the griffin dandruff." Ew. Dandruff.
Tibi turned back to the heart, mincing deftly. He smiled, oddly, as he recalled how his mum had taught him to cook. This wasn't... so different.
Noticing, suddenly, that the five minutes was up, Tibi laid the knife down and picked up the bloodroot.
"Ok, bloodroot's next. After I add it, you can add the cider and heart, ok?" Tibi slid the minced heart bits across their work station to her, before dropping the roots into the cauldron.
Were they gonig to need to drink this? It had.. heart and dandruff in it.
Ew. Tibi wasn't sure what was worse - the ingredients or the effect.
