And once again, you enter the dank, dark cave that is the Hogwarts potions classroom... but something has changed. Unlike the environment of the previous class, which was characterized by a clash of noxious odors, this time the classroom is filled with...
THE BEST. SMELLS. EVER.
Though the room is still cast in the typical gloom from the flickering candle wall sconces, unlike during the last class this time the air smells sweet, with notes of chocolate, vanilla, fresh coffee, light florals and fresh breezes, newly cut grass... A thousand lovely scents all harmoniously combining to create a symphony of sweet smells. Small flames are burning under a series of cauldrons simmering at the back of the room, and there are the typical rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions:

Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. I expect my younger students are now able to set up their workstations as well; if you need help, please ask an older student.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you.

Class Synopsis:
The class began with a discussion on Love Potions- the theory behind them and their classification.
Then, the students discussed probable ingredients in love potions based on their knowledge of potion ingredients; this lead to the lab assignment, in which the students were to partner with a person of the opposite gender and brew a basic Class XX love potion.
The students received instruction on how to remove infused oils from their pre-treated lovage seeds, and were instructed to work in pairs to complete this task.
Next, the students were instructed to add a single drop of swan blood to the potion, bottled a draught, and sample each other's work. Ah... Love!

Rhea was late to finding a partner as usual. She slid off her chair and walked over to Carter and his friend. She figured she would work with them since she had met him once. Tori might have introduced them. She figured he wouldn't mind working with her so much and hoped his friend wouldn't mind either. She walked over to the two.

Not that he LIKED that.
Once the Lionfish heart had been minced, Fyo added it to the potion. Its contents swirled into a gloss of sorts, and the colour changed to a pale pinkish-purple. "I think that's the correct colour," he said, with a sigh of relief. "You can add the dandruff, now."
"Looks good!" Lucy said excitedly, and added the dandruff and let it simmer.
After listening to the professor, Lucy got a bit scared--one of them had to drink the potion in the end. Oh, no she didn't like this. At all.
She glanced nervously at Fyo and said, "Um, you wanna go get the lovage seeds? As soon as the potion is done simmering we can add the oil."
She was quite nervous about the seeds--they sounded very difficult to open. She hoped they could do it. And, who could drink the love potion? Her mind wandered endlessly.

Hrm. Keeley could tell that the girl didn't want her there, but at least she wasn't being rude. The whole love triangle thing freaked her out, and she had no plan on being in it, so she replied, "Thanks. Uh, if it makes you feel any better, I don't plan on taking the potion. I just don't want to get yelled at." she grinned sheepishly, blushing, matching her hair perfectly. Eh, oh well. Maybe she could just observe the affects, that'd be okay.

STEP ONE: Purified water, 4 ounces Fluxweed, two bunches- finely crushed Lovage pollen - 2 drams
3 lovage seeds, whole - ??? Bloodroot, 3 roots- split lengthwise, scrape inner membrane out Apple cider, 8 ounces Lionfish heart, minced Griffin dandruff, 1 dram
Warm water until just before boiling. Crush fluxweed with mortar and pestle, add to water. Allow to come to a brisk boil. Add lovage pollen, stir until dissolved. Potion should take on a light golden colour. Stir slowly, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise stirs bring potion back up to a boil and allow to simmer 5 minutes Add inner membrane ONLY of bloodroots; do NOT include the tough outer membrane of the root!!! Add apple cider and lionfish heart; potion should take on an iridescent sheen and a light pink to purple cast Add griffin dandruff and simmer until your potion takes on a deep pink to red sheen.

"As I said, this next part is a bit tricky, and you will need the assistant of a partner for this. Working together, one of you will gently -- GENTLY -- peel back the outer seed coat - that firm, dark 'shell' on each seed. As SOON as the seed coat is exposed, the other student will take one of the tiny pins found at each workstation and pierce the hilum- for those of you who have not studied your herbology, that is the indentation in the seed where it normally attaches to the plant stalk. You must work quickly, for the oils you wish to extract will evaporate almost as soon as the seed coat is held open! Once you have pierced the seed, you will catch the single drop of oil that you will find in each seed on a stirring spoon and immediately place it in your potion, stirring it three times clockwise. Do this for each seed until you have three drops of freshly harvested lovage-seed oil in your potions. I expect it may take you several tries to accomplish this, so feel free to take more treated lovage seeds from the potions supplies if needed. Also, please note that it the lovage oil smells terrible on its own and will irritate your skin terribly if it comes into direct contact, so please do not get it on your fingers-- or your partner's fingers."

"I will come around the room and observe; please feel free to ask questions. I know this is a rather tricky bit of work, but then, love itself is a tricky business, is it not?" He smiled at the students, his livery, wrinkled lips stretching into a rather creepy grin.
Reese just supervised as Torin worked on the potion. He was doing very well! His measurements for the ingredients looked perfect and, when Reese checked the potion color after he left it simmer for a bit, the color was exactly what it was suppose to be. Deep pink. "Good job," she told her partner. She was about to raise her hand since that's what the Professor wanted them to do once they were done with the directions on the board, but before she could, Kazi started talking to the class.
Oh, he was giving instructions! She quickly picked up her pen and scribbled down what the Professor wanted them to do:

He picked up a seed and carefully started pulling back the outer seed coat. He was doing a good job of it as the Herbology nerd he was. He didn't want to do a bad job because it would shame him as one of Bunbury's best students.
When he was done with the first one he held it out towards Reese.

Lucy noticed the uncertainty in Fyo's voice--he was just as scared as her about the potion. Well, she certainly wasn't going to drink it--she couldn't! And as she thought this, she thought of poor Rafe, who she felt very bad for right now.
"Umm, I'll pierce the helium. I don't know if I'll be able to take off that outer coat...it looks pretty tough. But I suppose teamwork is what it takes!" Lucy attempted to be enthusiastic, but it didn't work. She really, really, REALLY didn't want to drink the potion, and she really hoped Fyo would be a gentleman and do it...Unless he had a girlfriend. That would just make matters worse.

Once Evan added the lovage Marie slowly stirred the potion clockwise and counter clockwise until it started to boil. "Now we just have to let it simmer for five minutes before we can add the bloodroot membrane." Marie grabbed one of the bloodroots and started to scrape out the inner membrane.
Once she started this she heard the professor give more insturctions. "Oh no, I hope we get this done before the proferssor gives any more instructions. I don't want to get behind in this class." Marie remembered last class and how the professor had taken points from her because she complained about cleaning. She didn't want to lose points now because she was falling behind now.
Once the five minutes passed Marie put the inner membranes of the bloodroots into the cauldron. She then measured out 8 ounces of apple cider and added that. Looking at Evan she asked "Do you want to add the remaining ingredients?" She didn't want him to think she was trying to do everything without his help, she just wanted to get finished before the professor gave out any more insturctions.

Whatever. Destiny didn't need a partner or a group. She was a great potioneer alone. Well not really, but she wasn't going to ask people she didn't know to join, that would be awkward..
So she started working on the first step. Boiling the water. She didn't want to stare at the water, because a watched cauldron never boils so instead she started crushing the fluxweed. When the crushing was done she leaned up to look in the cauldron. 'Still not boiling.' She turned away from the cauldron and glanced at Evelyn, Josh and the girl she didn't know, then back to the cauldron. 'I see bubbles!' Well she didn't mean to say that out loud. She added the fluxweed to the cauldron of water. Now to wait for it to completely boil.
Destiny almost fell asleep waiting for the water to boil, but it finally did. She added the 2 drams of lovage pollen. She must've been doing it right since the potion started to change color. Now the not so fun part, stiring. Clockwise, counter-clockwise. Clockwise, counter-clockwise. And now time to boil and simmer it. 'Halfway done now..'

Lucy attempted to be enthusiastic, but it didn't work. She really, really, REALLY didn't want to drink the potion, and she really hoped Fyo would be a gentleman and do it...Unless he had a girlfriend. That would just make matters worse.

Fyo nodded, was about to begin work on the lovage seeds - when he saw the expressions of her face. Eep! "Um, Lucy?" he said, and now his tones were sort of... calming, maybe? "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure it's going to be temporary. We'll work something out."
He didn't want her to worry.
He turned his attention to the first lovage seed and, with great care, began to peel back the firm, dark seed coat. Hopefully, Lucy was at the ready. Gosh, this took... quite a lot of quick work.

He peeked into the cauldron to check the potion inside which had the exact light golden colour. ''That's great. We are doing amazingly'' he smiled at him and turned back when the profesor started to speak up. What he was speking about sounded confusing but with Rose, he was sure he could do it right. So this was how they had to use the seeds. The Gryffindor boy glanced back at his partner, good thing she told him not to add the seeds. The moment he wanted to comment on how to work on the seeds a girl's voice raised before his and he looked up to see a Ravenclaw girl. She was requesting to join them and he just watched silently as Rose agreed since his mind was busy with the 'love triangle' thing the professor mentioned. ''Eh welcome...'' he smiled at her ''And you needn't worry about that. I'm sure he'd make us guys drink it.''

Keeley grinned, thanking god. "Sorry about that, but I'm not going to pretend I'm not relieved." Hmm... the potion was gold now, and she wasn't sure if she should be helping or if they were almost done. She tended to daydream during class. So, she just patiently watched, and if they told her to do something, she'd do it.

Lucy noticed her was trying to calm her down, and it was effective...somewhat.
She smiled at him and said,"Yes, we'll work something out...Do you have a girlfriend?" The question popped out of her mouth before she could stop herself. She only wanted to know so he wouldn't get his girlfriend mad or something...in that case, Lucy would have to take the potion...well, as long he was happy...Gosh, she was such a good person.
She watched as Fyo peeled the seed and held the pin in her hand, ready to expel the helium. As soon as the outer covering was off, Lucy pierced the helium and caught the oil in a spoon. Then, she proceeded to add the oil to the potion, all while making sure that it didn't get on anyone's hands. Finally,she stirred clockwise three times.
"Phew, that was stressful! Only two more times and we'll be done..." She said to him, realizing that 'done' meant that the potion was ready to be drunk. Perhaps they could test the potion on someone else? Or would that be rude?

"Oh. Yea. Love potions can make you do some crazy things..." Evelyn mumbled, smirking, and letting the potion come back up to a boil and simmer for five minutes. Smiling at Josh's opinion on how well they were doing, well of course they were!, she turned and smiled at the new girl in their group. "I'm sorry. I don't think I know your name. I'm Evelyn. This is Josh." she pointed to the Gryffindor *squee* and then to her Slytherin friend next to them. "And that's Destiny, who apparently likes... bubbles." Snickering, she checked the time and saw that the five minutes were almost up.
Reading quickly through the instructions again, she noticed there was another part that she should probably get done. "Hey Josh, when you're done with the Bloodroot, put it into the potion since five minutes will probably be up, and then get the apple cider. I'll work on the Lionfish heart really quick." Taking the heart, and trying not to gross out, she quickly minced it (to perfection of course), and waited for the other ingredients to go in.

Marilyn smirked as she watch Carter and the older Hufflepuff girl interact. She couldn't help but feel like she was being underestimated here. Giving Carter a look, she stepped towards Rhea. "Well, you'll want to prepared the fluxweed first...before putting the water in the cauldron. The water and fluxweed are suppose to be combined before the water has a chance to boil."

"It's ok, I don't think we've met. I'm Keeley." she was tempted to shake their hands, but that would've been weird. So, she just waved. And giggled of course, at Destiny, who apparently likes bubbles. She shuddered at the minced heart, a little bile coming up her throught. Yup, she was a major hippie, and she couldn't stand to see a heart. Some poor baby lionfish was probably crying about their lost parent...okay, changing the subject. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
