And once again, you enter the dank, dark cave that is the Hogwarts potions classroom... but something has changed. Unlike the environment of the previous class, which was characterized by a clash of noxious odors, this time the classroom is filled with...
THE BEST. SMELLS. EVER.
Though the room is still cast in the typical gloom from the flickering candle wall sconces, unlike during the last class this time the air smells sweet, with notes of chocolate, vanilla, fresh coffee, light florals and fresh breezes, newly cut grass... A thousand lovely scents all harmoniously combining to create a symphony of sweet smells. Small flames are burning under a series of cauldrons simmering at the back of the room, and there are the typical rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions:
Quote:
POTIONS CLASS: LOVE POTIONS
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. I expect my younger students are now able to set up their workstations as well; if you need help, please ask an older student.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you.
--Professor Kazimeriz
Class Synopsis:
The class began with a discussion on Love Potions- the theory behind them and their classification.
Then, the students discussed probable ingredients in love potions based on their knowledge of potion ingredients; this lead to the lab assignment, in which the students were to partner with a person of the opposite gender and brew a basic Class XX love potion.
The students received instruction on how to remove infused oils from their pre-treated lovage seeds, and were instructed to work in pairs to complete this task.
Next, the students were instructed to add a single drop of swan blood to the potion, bottled a draught, and sample each other's work. Ah... Love!
"You're good at...stirring..." Cela eyed the contents of the cauldron as the smell started changing.
"... ohh."
She sighed and stared at it.
"Thanks," Jake said, saying just the one word whilst he focused on stirring away. Stirrrrrr stirrrrr stirrrrrrr...
Already, it seemed like it was getting thicker, though that might have been his arm going funny. It was hard work not to make it slop over the edges, but that wouldn't be a problem anytime soon.

Placing the seed next to its brother (it could have been its sister, but Wesley had a gut feeling it was a boy), she picked up what she hoped would be the last one.
With the love potion's completion drawing closer, she was scrambling to come up with escape scenarios- getting the itchy stuff on her fingers, blowing up the potion, going to the restroom- but each one was quickly shut down before she could even begin to plan it. Professor Kazimirez was too smart, and she was too much of a coward. And even more importantly, she couldn't just abandon Tiberius.
"A-almost d-done," she said shakily, squeezing her lids shut tight once more,
"One. Two. THREE!"
Wow, Wesley was really having a hard time of this. Tibi opened his mouth to ask what was wrong when suddenly, he realized that the seed was open and if he didn't hurry the oil would be lost.
Poking hastily, another drop of oil landed in the spoon. Success! Tibi threw the spoon into the cauldron and gave yet another three clockwise stirs. He was about to stop when he realized that the next instruction was to stir. And stir. and stir some more.
Keeping the movement going, he turned to Wesley. "Are you ok? You can open your eyes now." His voice was soft. "We got it all in. Just stirring left."
Stir. Stir. Stir.
"Lemme know if you want a turn."

Mina had to find a group and fast. Looking at the lovage seed in her hand and then back up she noticed a group without a third. Maybe they wouldn't mind me joining them? She only had to add the oil, so she really wouldn't be much of a nuisance. They looked friendly and she had seen them around, carefully she leaned over. "Can I join your group?" she asked. "I just need help with the lovage seed oil. My potion is almost done so I won't be much of a bother."
Isabella took another of the small love seed and pried open the seed coat with a bit of difficulty. Jack, have your go.pin it away she said her brow furrowed in concentration to keep the seed in her hand till the oil was oozing out.
'Alrighty!' Jack quickly grabbed a pin and spoon and got to work. He know that speed was of the essence. 'Here goes.' he said as he quickly pierced the pod at the proper spot. Read with the spoon, he caught the first precious drop. 'Eureka! One down and two to go. You're doing fantastic Isabella.'
[s]Warm water until just before boiling.
[s]Crush fluxweed with mortar and pestle, add to water. Allow to come to a [s]brisk boil.
[s]Add lovage pollen, stir until dissolved.
[s]Potion should take on a light golden colour.
[s]Stir slowly, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise stirs
[s]bring potion back up to a boil and allow to simmer 5 minutes
[s]Add inner membrane ONLY of bloodroots; do NOT include the tough outer [s]membrane of the root!!!
[s]Add apple cider and lionfish heart; potion should take on an iridescent sheen [s]and a light pink to purple cast
Add griffin dandruff and simmer until your potion takes on a deep pink to red sheen.
DO NOT GO FORWARD, wait for further instructions.

Sooooooooooooooo, Miranda had, so far, been doing great working alone. She was partnerless (pun intended) and making a LOVE POTION. URgh. She sighed as she watched the crushed fluxweed float around in the water inside the cauldron. Miranda jawned small as she waited for the water to boil, looking around as the people bustled and hustled to get their ingredients in.
After adding the Lovage pollen, she stirred the liquid and waited for the water to turn golden. Miranda had never particulary enjoyed potions, she wasn't a good cook. Well, besides making awesome waffles. Hehe. A moment passed and after noticing the water had indeed turned gold-ish, she grinned. Yay! So far so good!
Tracing her finger down the recipie in her notebook, Miranda found that she had to stir some more. Allright. Taking the spoony thingy, she stirred, first clockwise and then counterclockwise. And again and again and etCERRta. As the cauldron was put to boil again, she watched the ripples of the liquid going all...ripply. Wait, how much time had passed !?
Grimacing in panic, she minimized the fire under the cauldron and wondered if she had totally messed it up now. With big round eyes, she waited, biting her thumb nail. "Blergh!" It TASTED FUNNY! Probably mashed something with that nail. Anywho... Well nothing happened... Should something happen. A little panicky, Miranda turned to see what the others were doing, well she couldn't SEE throught the CAULDRON.
No matter, que sera sera, right? Yes. So. Now. For. The. bloodroots. Creepy name but she picked it up and began to try and...peel the thing. Were you supposed to peel it? Or maybe you should like take a spoon and spoon the fleshy stuff out. Errr... Just peel the stuff. What does it say...? Oh, ofcourse, how silly of her. Snort. So cutting lenghtwise and scraping the content. Done.
Finally adding the bloody named thingy, she looked back into her notebook. "Eight ounces of Apple ciderrrrrr...shloooop!" he mumbled and made a sound effect to go with the pouring of the liquid. And theeeeen some of that...LIONFISH HEART?! Oh eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew.
Miranda grimaced quite horrified by the thought of a heart. Oh oh oh, she had not noticed it was actually a heart when she went to get the ingredients. Gah! Well it was minced... Seeing the thing lying there, she scooped it up and lifted it up like a crane. Wrinkled nose and all, she sprinkled it into the cauldron. Shudder.
Placing the cauldron into lots of heat again, she made it simmer for a while and sighed in relief at how the potion was actually getting that pink and purple-ish sheen to it.
Now she had to add the griffin dandruff. DannnnndrUFFF! Dananana dadruff, the ruff in the dan and the dan in the ruff! She shook her head as if listening to a rock'n'roll song and let the ingredient mix together with the liquid.
And noooooooooooooooooow, she had to let it simmer, like it says there on the instructionsss. Rama-lama-ding-dong!
Cela tore her eyes away from the cauldron and turned to firmly focus her attention on Copernicus a few tables over instead.
... smelled... good... though...
Delana looked around for a pair that she could work with, she noticed a group on the other side of the room...
She wandered over ... "Uhm... Would it be okay if I worked with you two?" she asked cautiously, not wanting to be a bother.. "I just need the lovage seed oil and you both seem to know what you're doing. . ."
Wow, Wesley was really having a hard time of this. Tibi opened his mouth to ask what was wrong when suddenly, he realized that the seed was open and if he didn't hurry the oil would be lost.

Keeping the movement going, he turned to Wesley. "Are you ok? You can open your eyes now." His voice was soft. "We got it all in. Just stirring left."
Stir. Stir. Stir.
"Lemme know if you want a turn."
Wesley must not have heard Tiberius add the drop to the potion, because she was startled by his question and, opening her eyes, found him to be stirring. "Oh! Me? Yes." She said sincerely as she placed the seed with the others. Wesley wasn't lying; she never lied. The Hufflepuff really was okay. She wasn't sick. And after that Bat-Bogey Hex, she doubted she'd ever have a stuffy nose again. She was healthy. She was alive. She was perfectly, absolutely okay.
Physically at least.
Nodding as he spoke, Wesley moved onto her knees, leaning over the cauldron and watching the spoon as it stirred hypnotically round and round and round and round.
"I can stir when you get tired," she offered in response to his question. It was supposed to turn a maple syrup-like consistency, so Tiberius would probably become exhausted at some point. And Wesley might not look it, but she definitely had some muscles- she had pulled Jake Upstead out of the Toilet Paper Mountain. All by herself. Yep, she was one strong girl.

"Here, have a turn," Tibi said smiling. He wans't tired, yet, but she should get a chance too. As he passed off the spoon, never stopping the stir, Tibi leaned over and looked into the cauldron.
It looked thicker and... Tibi inhaled... it smelled wonderfully. Tibi's eyes grew wide and his expression softened. "Mmmmm" he said, closing his eyes then, and breathing deeply.
He was definitely forgetting his reluctance to drink the potion because now, all he could think about was that it smelled fantastic, so how much better would it taste?
Mmmm.

"Sure." Celandine agreed with a slightly dreamy little smile that was directed at Copernicus. But she blinked and looked at the Slytherin girl who had come to stand in front of them.
"We don't really know what we're doing, but we'll help as best we can, right Jake?" Cela peeked at the Hufflepuff.
House unity. Yay.

Fyo grinned at her remark. "I prefer a good swim," he said, honestly. Water was like... a second home. Clean, river water, that is. He continued to stir with a passion, and his arms actually began to grow a little tired. It was then that the potion began to thicken. Thank Heavens!
The contents came to a boil, and their consistency was that of maple syrup, and the scent was amazing, like chocolate or a fresh roll of parchment or dried grass or... Lissy. Or one of those perfumes she wore. Fyo blinked, and looked up at Lucy, in the nick of time to register her last comment.
"Yeah," he said, with a surprised nod. "We are. You did a wonderful job." Lucy had definitely been a great partner.
Lucy chuckled as Fyo said that he preferred a good swim.
"Yeh, swimming's fun, too, I suppose," She said to him as she watched him stir. She was about to ask him if he wanted to take a break and let her stir, when the potion thickened and came to a boil. And it definitely had the consistency fo maple syrup. And boy, did it smell good!! She could smell Rafe...Mmmmmmm...
"Yes, I think we make a great team!" She said with a smile, not really registering what was going around her. The events of last week were coming back to her...hopefully, she wasn't drooling!

"Awesome, Thanks..." ... wow their potion smelled good.. "Oh, I'm Delana by the way." she added as an afterthought, wouldn't want to be rude after all. She set down her bag of supplies and put her not-quite-finished potion on the other end of the table.

Mina frowned, maybe she overestimated the level of possible niceness of the 'couple' beside her. Well, she's just have to find another 'couple' to ask for help from. Glancing around again she spotted some other 'claws. They might be more willing to help her. She recognized one of them as their house prefect.

Quietly she walked over with her seeds in her hand, as not to disturb or distract them from their task. Waiting for a safe moment after they had added the oil to their cauldron, she spoke up. "Sorry to disturb you, but could you help me with my seeds?" she asked quietly.

Reese kept stirring...and stirring...and stirring the potion until she couldn't stir it anymore. Geez, what was the point of going through all this work to try to get someone to like you? And, for merlin's sake, it wasn't like the effects of this potion lasted a long time. Sighing, she looked down at the potion and then to Torin. "It's starting to thicken," she updated him. "But, it hasn't changed colors. I think we have a thousand more stirs to go before it starts changing it's color." Of course, she was highly emphasizing that. "Here, you stir now," she added before handing him to stirring spoon.

Aww, Reese was getting tired already. How cute in a weird way. "You tired already?" he teased with a smile as he took the spoon from her and began to stir. She was right, it had started to thicken. Hopefully he wouldn't have to literally do a thousand stirs for this thing as that would be rather dull.
"So er.. do you think he's really going to make us drink this stuff?"

She took a seed and held it up.. "Okay, so do you want to open them or... stab them?".. stab... that seemed like an appropriate word for what they were doing, right?

Maybe it was the atmosphere in the room that changed her mind, or maybe it was something else, but Keeley was now in Evelyn's line of vision, and she was going to keep the Ravenclaw there until she knew more about her.
"Well, Josh, that's just the problem. Before, you would say you are the master at everything. How do I know that you aren't the master at breaking things?" Smirking, she picked up one of the lovage seeds that Keeley handed over. "Okay, I'll peel back the outer shell, and you poke the top part thingy and catch the oil with the stirring spoon. Then quickly place it in the potion and stir three times clockwise." Evelyn smiled at him before quickly looking through her bag and taking out her gloves. "Should probably put these on too just in case."
Josh put a fake offended expression on his face ''I only do master the good things'' then laughed ''But you'r right i can not guarantee it''. Considering Keeley again something else occured to him : What if he fell in love with Keeley instead? Whay would he do? What would he say? Would he kiss her? And more importantly what would Rose do? These potions classes were getting to be more and more of problem as days passed. Though he enjoyed brewing them, the place and results were always stressing. The only good thing was that he had Rose beside him who would take him under control in case he freaked out.
Getting back to the class work he responded the Slytherin girl's smile with his wider one and put on the gloves she gave him. ''There are uncomfortable and i feel clumsy with them'' deifinitely he was not feeling like he could manage doing this comfortaby and perfectly with them but he heard the professor, the oil might hurt the skin. Once he was done and ready he faced Rose ''Okay i'm ready peel it''

Poor seeds. She didn't think about it as stabbing until now. Right in the hillum too!

As Jack and Isabella takled the second pod, it shot from her hand...as a quick fix, Jack cleaned up her hands with a quick charm. 'Okay, lets try this again.' This time Isabella managed to hold on to the peeled pod, so that jack could poke it with a pin. Unfortunately, the pod slipped once again...before Jack could collect the precious drop.
'Dang.' Jack frowned. 'How about we switch jobs. My hands are rougher than yours and might hold on a bit better.' he said with a nod as he went off to get a few more pods.

"Okay ready? On the count of three." She held the seed out, "One. Two... Three" Quickly, she peeled open the seed and held it steady...
