And once again, you enter the dank, dark cave that is the Hogwarts potions classroom... but something has changed. Unlike the environment of the previous class, which was characterized by a clash of noxious odors, this time the classroom is filled with...
THE BEST. SMELLS. EVER.
Though the room is still cast in the typical gloom from the flickering candle wall sconces, unlike during the last class this time the air smells sweet, with notes of chocolate, vanilla, fresh coffee, light florals and fresh breezes, newly cut grass... A thousand lovely scents all harmoniously combining to create a symphony of sweet smells. Small flames are burning under a series of cauldrons simmering at the back of the room, and there are the typical rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions:
Quote:
POTIONS CLASS: LOVE POTIONS
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. I expect my younger students are now able to set up their workstations as well; if you need help, please ask an older student.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you.
--Professor Kazimeriz
Class Synopsis:
The class began with a discussion on Love Potions- the theory behind them and their classification.
Then, the students discussed probable ingredients in love potions based on their knowledge of potion ingredients; this lead to the lab assignment, in which the students were to partner with a person of the opposite gender and brew a basic Class XX love potion.
The students received instruction on how to remove infused oils from their pre-treated lovage seeds, and were instructed to work in pairs to complete this task.
Next, the students were instructed to add a single drop of swan blood to the potion, bottled a draught, and sample each other's work. Ah... Love!

Uhm. Okay. So. She still didn't have a partner yet. How pitiful was this?
Livvy groaned and made a face as she looked over at the Professor in desperation. Were they allowed to work on it alone cuz' it seemed like there wasn't any chance she was going to be getting a partner. Everyone was already all partnered up. Where were all the free guys? GAAHHHH. "Professor," Livvy started, raising her hand into the air. "I can't seem to find a partner. Would it be okay if I worked by myself?" she asked.

Was that a good thing or bad thing that he wanted to be her partner? Maybe he was just nervous since it was love potions.
She was confusing herself too much with the 'does he like me? or he doesn't' thing and just shaking her head, she stood up and stole a chair that wasn't being used, dragging it over to her station so he could sit. "Grab your stuff." she mumbled, glancing up at the board and then to him, patting the seat next to her. If they acted like good buddies, than no one would know anything...right? Right. Well if she acted like he was a good buddy, since she had no clue if Josh liked her or not. Again with confusing herself.
Josh relieved a little when she agreed and walked back to where he had left his bag with his potions kit. He did not know if she was also taking a risk by accepting this. Either way he though he was safe now. Rose was a Slytherin which was the house for people who'd simply adore the idea of taking the control of other people but he trusted her more than anybody in the whole class or say whole school. Grabbing his bag and potions kit he went back to her table and sat down beside her. Silently though, as if he had not been the real Josh, he was so stressed with what'd happen once they were finished with brewing the potion that he had little will even to speak. Looking at Rose's face she looked okay with it do hopefully there was one who could manage and control everything properly without the pressure of stress. ''Shall we get started?'' he asked and managed a little smile.

"Of course." she said, looking around. People had already started on their potions so it would be good if they started theirs too right away. Not even hearing Josh sit down, she was surprised when she looked over to him to find him right there. "Wow, you're really quite today. Are you sure you are feeling well? You don't need to be nervous or anything. I don't think he's going to make us drink it." That would be utterly wrong if the Professor did that. Plus she didn't think having a room full of love stricken kids would be the best way to go...
But seeing as he did look nervous and tense, maybe he should just do the really easy stuff. Like measuring water. In case his hand decided slip when cutting or something, and than that would just be a mess. "Here, why don't you start on measuring the water and I'll start on the fluxweed." Passing the purified water to him, she started crushing the fluxweed.

Keeley still didn't have a partner. Sad, isn't it? So, she sat brewing the potion by herself, in the back. Today her skin was a darker tan than usual and her long black hair was braided. She looked around, no available dudes whatsoever. It was okay though, she didn't want to act crazy over some guy. She preferred to just watch. It would be nice to have a partner though... but it wasn't like any guys at this school liked her. The only guy she ever talked to was Carter, but she was pretty sure he was dating Ella or something. It's not like she was boy crazy, she was only eleven. Now she was almost done...
]STEP ONE:
Purified water, 4 ounces
Fluxweed, two bunches- finely crushed
Lovage pollen - 2 drams
3 lovage seeds, whole
Bloodroot, 3 roots- split lengthwise, scrape inner membrane out
Apple cider, 8 ounces
Lionfish heart, minced
Griffin dandruff, 1 dram
Warm water until just before boiling. Crush fluxweed with mortar and pestle, add to water. Allow to come to a brisk boil. Add lovage pollen, stir until dissolved. Potion should take on a light golden colour. Stir slowly, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise stirs bring potion back up to a boil and allow to simmer 5 minutes
Add inner membrane ONLY of bloodroots; do NOT include the tough outer membrane of the root!!!
Add apple cider and lionfish heart; potion should take on an iridescent sheen and a light pink to purple cast
Add griffin dandruff and simmer until your potion takes on a deep pink to red sheen.
DO NOT GO FORWARD, wait for further instructions.
As Wesley stirred, Tibi crossed off the steps on his parchment. Next was going to be... bloodroot. Grasping the knife a little cautiously, Tibi slit the roots length-wise and opened them a little to see the inner membrane.
Furrowing his brow, Tibi considered for a minute how to actually scrape the insides out. Looking at his supplies, and then the knife in his hand, Tibi shrugged and used the knife to scrape. Membranes in a pile, they were ready for once their five minutes was up.
"I'll cut the lionfish heart, too, if you measure out the cider and the griffin dandruff." Ew. Dandruff.
Tibi turned back to the heart, mincing deftly. He smiled, oddly, as he recalled how his mum had taught him to cook. This wasn't... so different.
Noticing, suddenly, that the five minutes was up, Tibi laid the knife down and picked up the bloodroot.
"Ok, bloodroot's next. After I add it, you can add the cider and heart, ok?" Tibi slid the minced heart bits across their work station to her, before dropping the roots into the cauldron.
Were they gonig to need to drink this? It had.. heart and dandruff in it.
Ew. Tibi wasn't sure what was worse - the ingredients or the effect.
Nodding, Wesley carefully poured the apple cider into the measuring glass. Hands shaking nervously, some of it slopped onto the table, but she still managed to fill the beaker. Because the Hufflepuff was so tiny, she didn't have to bend over to double check; the meniscus was already at eye level.
Setting the cider aside tenderly, Wesley reached for the gryphon dandruff and began to shake it out onto the measuring spoon. Her first shake was too violent, and the flakes went everywhere. Sneezing into her sleeve, the dandruff-covered 12-year-old very slowly shook them again. After several pain-staking minutes, she managed to acquire the exact amount, and gently tipped it into a spare phial.
"Right." Hesitantly taking the minced heart in hand, which she had been so desperately avoiding, Wesley stared at it, eyes wide in horror. What poor lionfish died for this? Somewhere, out in the ocean, or river, or wherever lionfish's lived, there was a baby lionfish and a mama lionfish, and they where crying. What kind of a person went around cutting out daddy lionfishs' hearts?
Trying to come up with a person, Wesley forgot about the potion, remembering it just as she heard the slosh of the bloodroot being added. Oh! Now it was her turn. Biting her lip, the Hufflepuff extended her arm holding the heart, and turned her head, not looking, as she tipped over the container. Expecting to hear another splash, Wesley was surprised when nothing happened. Looking back, she saw the minced heart hanging on, still sticky from just being cut. Oh no! It's angry, and it doesn't want to go in! It doesn't want to die! Overlooking the fact that the heart was already dead, Wesley opened her mouth to ask if she really had to do this.
But she already knew the answer. She had to. But she didn't want to! But she had to. Because Tiberius had picked her to be his partner; he had placed his absolute trust in her, and she couldn't let him down.
Flinching, the small child shook the container until she finally heard the substance come out. Wesley gulped and quickly added the pretty cider. It seemed to turn pink upon contact with the already added ingredients. Slowly - as the liquid spread throughout, the color bled in, and depending on how she tilted her head, the potion appeared to be much like a rainbow.
Looking at it in wonder, momentarily forgetting about Daddy Lionfish and his mourning family, Wesley spoke quietly, "Now's all we need is the dandruff."
She prodded the phial over to Tiberius just as he had done earlier with the minced heart. With his help, they where actually going to make something. Wesley owed a lot to the Ravenclaw; he deserved to add the final touch.

Tibi had to try really hard not to giggle as Wesley struggled with the heart. He still had a little bit of heart goo on his gloves from cutting it, and so he dared not cover his mouth with his hand. Faking a sneeze instead, Tibi buried his face in the nook of his elbow, biting on his robe to keep from laughing.
He knew it wasn't funny. Just looking at her face, he could tell that the heart made her uncomfortable. And then when it stuck! Priceless.
Once the cider and heart were in, Tibi watched as the potion's color began to turn. Coooool.
Once he was satisfied that it was time, he accepted the phial of dandruff from Wesley with a nod and a smile, before tipping it into the cauldron as well. "Well, that's it. Now.. we let it simmer until the color changes and then wait for more instructions..."
While he waited, Tibi turned back to his parchment and crossed off the final steps.

But in the back of his head, the realization that he was probably going to have to drink it was starting to return.

If she hadn't been so elated, Wesley would've probably described the potion as being the color of blood. But right now, as she squirmed happily in her chair, she was thinking it was the color of success. And what a beautiful color that was!
Nodding excitedly, she had to steady chair, which was threatening to tip over. Her face was positively glowing and a wide smile filled with slightly crooked teeth reached from ear to ear.
As Tibi raised his hand, she reached up her own as well, and with no reservations, slapped his hand like they had just won a year's supply of butterbeer.

Keeley still didn't have a partner. Ugh. Great. Her potion was turning a pretty pink now, practically done. She had had a bit of trouble with the animal parts, but she consoled herself that they had died naturally, which they probable hadn't. She didn't want to have to drink it, and she was especially worried about what she would do. Do you fall in love with the first guy you see? She didn't know. But, since the directions said to wait, she pulled out some parchment and started doodling all the scents she smelled. Chocolate, peanut butter, jasmine, sharpies, cooking food in the kitchens, vanilla, cinnamon, citrus, freshly laundered clothes, flowers, the ocean, lemon, and-and an old, worn book, and newly ink covered parchment. The wonderful sents made her temporarily forget her stress about being the only girl without a partner. But, soon the worry was back. Was she that big of a loser? Keeley was quiet, but she wasn't a total nerd. Well, maybe she was, but she wasn't mean...

It was consoling to know that Samson wasn't the only one without a partner. Well, it was mainly because he didn't want a partner to begin with. But it seemed they weren't allowed to work alone. And the sooner he got this class over with, the better. Had he known this was a love potions session, he would never have attended. Er, not that he couldn't not attend. Ugh.
"I'll be your partner," Samson piped up at the girl looking for a partner, his face all screwed up in disgust, though he tried to hide it. It felt like he was going to throw up, and the bile was climbing up to his throat. Okay, so maybe he was exaggerating, but he didn't like being the first to ask. Meeeh.

When he finished his sentence he gave her a meaningful look and nodded when she told him to handle the water part. So he measured and poured one-two-three and four ounces of water into the cauldron before them. ''There's lovage pollen and seeds too'' he said pointing the stuff right in from of him as he took out his wand and cast an incendio below the cauldron to warm the water. ''It says herewe should add the fluxweed when it is close to boil.''

"Okay then." she said softly, though giving him a skeptical look. She definitely didn't like the idea of being given a love potion or anything, but what can you do? If the professor thinks it's safe enough...
Nodding as she already read the instructions and knew the first few steps, she added the fluxweed when little bubbles started to rise from the bottom of the water, indicating that it was almost ready to boil. "Do you want to do the stirring or should I and you can start on the Bloodroot to get it ready for the next step?" she asked, watching the water start to boil. Since the lovage pollen was practically right there by him, he could add it.
maybe we should just leave them out for now, and see what the proffesor says, a lot of people are leaving them out maybe we're supposed to." emily said looking around at the other people. She picked up the blood roots and started splitting them, once she had them all done she scooped the membrane out into the potion.
now it was the apple cider, 8 ounces.... emily measured it out and poured it in, then she began mincing the lionfish heart. after that was done (and her work area much messier then before) she added that.
the potions color changed to exactly what the potion said, her mom always told her watching her would be helpful (except when emily tripped or something of the sort and knocked over the cauldron usually leading to some bad reaction in her mother or holes in the floor... lets just say there were plenty of trips to saint mungos)
Isabella waited for long but then she gave up and began to work over the potion.setting the cauldron on the burner she warmed the water.as the water took time to warm she crushed the fluxweed and then added to the water to boil. as the water boiled Bella measured 2 drams of loveage pollen and then added it to the boiling water and flux weed solution and stirred it till it dissolved.she looked at her watch and it was already half an hour from the time she began her work on the potion.checking the instructions again she observed her potion which by now was not exactly light golden in color as expected but was a bit like yellow.slightly disappointed she stirred the potion alternating with clock and counter clock wise stirs.she had no idea for how many such stirrs she was to make so she did about seven times.she waited to see if there would be any color change.and well there was there was lightening of the yellow.not thorougly as expected but it was better then having yellow potion in the cauldron.then she bent down to turn the burner to higher level to let the potion in the cauldron boil and simmer...
Jack was a bit shy around the girls, so he'd kept his head down a bit too long and didn't have a partner. He supposed he'd better do something about that, so looked around to see who was available.

Meeeh.
BLECH. She should just work alone anyway. Was a partner really necessary for this? What could go wrong? Honestly. All you have to do is follow the instructions. It was just that simple. No one blew themself up unless they were TRYING to be that stupid. Plus. They were trying it on each other. That wasn't too smart, now was it? Ehhh? No. It wasn't.
Groaning inwardly, Livvy set her stuff back down on her desk and re-set her equipment. And then some dude said that he would be her partner. She glanced around to face him. Oh yippee. She actually got a partner. Part of her wanted to find one so she could hurry up and earn some points for Ravenclaw. But the other part of her wanted to just ditch the class. This was BAD influence. Teaching students how to make love potions.
"Um. Yeah. Sure," Livvy said, nodding her head as she pushed her equipment to the edge of the table so the boy could place his equipment on there too. "I'm Livvy." Only polite.

as Bella was continuing with her work she just looked around to see how was the rest of the class doing.they all seemed to be quite ahead of her.she noticed a tall guy and waved to him.she knew him he was the ravenclaw prefect Mr.Prefect? Isabella called you can join me if you want she said surprised by her own confident way of talking to the prefect whom she hardly ever talked before from the time she entered hogwarts last year
emily dumped the dram of griffin dandruff into the potion and stirred it a bit, hmmmm it was starting to darken. She was excited the potion was turning out well (she hoped) she was especially excited that she did most of it by herself (she really hoped fred didn't mind).
