| | Potions class: Pop quiz!
The cold, dank potions classroom was open, welcoming the students in its typical dim, cheerless way. The glass of the many bottles and jars of strange potions ingredients caught the light of the flickering candles, tattooing strange and foreboding patterns of light and shadow on the hard stone walls.
The student workstations were set with four stools at each table. Each table also held potions equipment including pipettes, flasks, a mortar and pestle and a few small cauldrons of various metals, each on smalls stands with small heating elements beneath them.
The blackboard reads simply: Quote:

The three quickest to answer correctly (with original answers or expanding upon an answer if there is one 'right' answer) are safe. The others are at risk of being doused with potion! If potion is spilled on you, you must try to brew the counter-potion to cure yourself while still answering questions... Or risk a new balloon's wrath!
Answer quickly, originally, and correctly to stay dry!
ooc: Go ahead and be seated, and feel free to RP getting set up and talking to your classmates as you do. This will be a very short lesson by comparison to previous lessons... but I hope you find it entertaining nonetheless! Xana~ |

Delana had just finished cleaning when above her another balloon popped. Like an idiot, she stood there and literally watched it come down and hit her. The upper half of her body was drenched in a kind of wattery, brownish purple sludge. And it got In. Her. EYES. Ahh! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
She furiously tried to wipe the goopy mess from her face... But that wasn't all, oh no... it wasn't just one balloon this time. She'd been hit with several.
Already wet and shaking cold, she decided to open her eyes, hoping she'd got most of the potion(s?) wiped off.... but wait... it was... dark. . .? It was still dark. I'm blind.... she thought to herself.. trying to keep the panic level down. I. AM. B-L-I-N-D. She sat down, luckily she knew where her chair was... Blind. ... and... cold? She tried to decide if she was cold because she was wet... or because one of the potions made her cold. Sitting for a few minutes, she began to feel colder. She shivered viotently, never in her life had she been so cold. She pulled her legs to her stomach on her chair, rubbing her arms and trying not to freeze to death. For a few seconds she actually forgot about being blind. Having gathered her thoughts, she went through all the ingredients she might need, deciding that making 2 potions would be better. One to warm her up, and the other to be topically applied so she could see again. She tried to come up with a counter-potion with the ingredients she already had... but it was impossible. She forced herself off the chair, gasping as the cold air hit her. Slowly, she made her way to the ingredients, holding her trembling arms out in front of her. She knew her way around the classroom better than her own home, but she still didn't want to knock anything over... like a person... or a person's potion. Managing to only bump into one person along the way, who she thought was the professor, she hoped everyone had put the ingredients in order, and the she remembered correctly where they were. "Okay... Okay. Uhmm.. Peppermint... pomegranate.. She went through all the ingredients in her head, grabbing anything and everthing that she might possibly need. The journey back was even slower. Her arms full of ingredients, she tried her hardest not to drop anything. Once, she almost sat at the wrong table, but luckily realized and got back to her chair eventually. She sat back in her nice familiar chair, putting down her ingredients one by one in the exact order she picked them out.
Taking a deep breath, she began to brew the first potion, the one that would hopefully cure her blindness. According to her reasoning, that one would take longer and had more waiting time, so she could finish the other one while the first was simmering. First... 4 drops of pomegranate. She went through the ingredient on her table until she got to the one she needed. Wait... drops...? Drops... How can I measure drops if I can't see?! She opened the bottle and put her head close the the potion, if she couldn't see them, all she could do was try to hear them, right? Slowly tipping her hand, she let one drop fall into the water.. and she heard it! Well she thought she heard it... Tilting her hand again, she tried to measure out 3 more drops. The shivering definantly didn't make matters and easier.....
And so it went, brewing her first potion blind, hoping she got the correct ingredients in the correct ammounts... and even then, what if her conter-potion was just flat out wrong?!
________________________________
Peppermint, ginger, nettles... all her ingredients were ready and set out as she continued her next potion. This was was going to be simple... except the nettles. She had to finely chop those nettles. Clearing off a place on her table, she hoped that she wouldn't cut her fingers off, she cut up the nettles into what she hoped was fine slices. Bringing this potion to a boil, she went over to the first... it had been 5 minutes right? There's no clock to watch when you can't see. Desperate and impaitent, Delana took some of her potion and prayed it would work... With shaking hands, she let one drop fall into her left eye... and... slowly, light appeared and she could make out hazy shapes around her. She was so happy. She could have cried. Administering another drop into her left eye, she followed with 2 drops to her right. HUZZAH!
Quickly, she went over and checked her other other potion... it looked okay. LOOKED. Happy about her newly gained sight, she took a dose of her potion and felt the cold immediately vasish. She cleaned up her potion ingredients and wrote down her notes... there were alot this time.
She'd just heard her summer assignment as yet MORE balloons popped over her. At least this time, everyone was hit.... Sne noted the effects... her hands were growing. Seriously growing. Fast! Luckily for her, this potion was one from the books. One she knew by heart. Before much swelling could take place, she had her shrinking solution ready.
Back to her original size, she finished her notes and gathered her things. The summer assignment seemed easy enough... she was basically there already. "Thanks for the amazing year Professor. She said, putting away all the ingredients. She was really going to miss potions... like ALOT. "Sorry I didn't answer any questions...." She made her way back toward her table, feeling numb. She sat back down and went over her potions notebook a few more times, fixing any mistakes. She was pretty sure she'd failed that. Delana wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Ugh... stupid, stupid, stupid....

Fyo was NOT happy about this. The fourth year gathered his thoughts, or was about to ... when another balloon popped open, right on top of him. He tried to duck, and was partially successful: the contents of the EVIL balloon emptied, not into his hair, but on .. his right hand. His poor, POOR right hand.
Which began to swell.
*GASP*
The fourth year tried to shrug his hand off, then realized that really wasn't a solution - and, even if it had been, would not have been a nice or painless one. Eyes wide, he realized it was time to get to work and *HICCUP*
Arghhh, two potions. Two, BAD potions. He would have to work on the 'antidotes,' one by one. The swelling stuff first, then. Because his hand had not stopped growing in size and, even though the rate at which it became larger was rather slow, it gave him an odd, uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach - a feeling which could easily be explained by one look at the rather abnormal size of his hand, now.
He had two options to work with, right now - the Deflating Draught, and the Shrinking Solution. He chose the latter, because he knew it better, and had prepared it once before. His head throbbed from the remains of a mild, sort-of-panic-attack that had passed as soon as it had arrived, but he felt calm, really calm. After all, he was good at potions, he could whip up something to cure himself. This wasn't so bad, was it?
....
WHO WAS HE KIDDING?
Of course, it was bad. Of COURSE.
But *hiccup* he would *hiccup* find a way out. *hiccup*
Soon. |

| JayMay ♥ Big, yellow duckie <3 Gahz! Shumeeta scowled as a balloon burst over her but she didn't try to escape. She knew it would be of no use. So she stood there, where she was and when her hands began to erupt in boils, gave the boils a bad look.
"I'm happy I'm not Fyo," she told the boils. "Or I would have named each of you by now." Yes she remembered that he had a duck named Little Fyo II. Not to mention that he had named a spider that had found her Little Fyo III. Then there was the bug he had named ....... she couldn't remember what he had named the bug.
Well a boil-cure potion would help her out of her current misery. Shumeeta shook her head at how hard this would be with boils all over her hands. And now her arms too. But she knew she had to do it because there was no alternative. The tomboy flipped her super short, violet hair - like there was much to flip - and got to work. She slipped on her dragonhides for protection and then collected the necessary ingredients.
This was gonna take a while.

Pouring herself her own phial of the potion, she lifted it up to her eyes, glaring staring at it and its also weird color. Squeezing her eyes shut so she didn't have to look at it any longer, she drank the potion. Yup, tasted exactly how it looked. Disgusting. Actually, the after taste seemed to be the worst part. Ewww. For once, Evelyn actually wished that the crazy cookie lady would have been there with her weird-ish healing cookies. At least those would have tasted better than this.
She was so deep in thought, that she actually missed the fact that the boils had disappeared, until she heard someone hiccuping that is. 'Would so have rather have had whatever they have.' she thought grumpily, flicking stuff off the table again. "Well, it worked." she spoke quietly, giving Destiny a thumbs up. She was the one that practically made the potion in the first place. Now could they get out of here? Yes? No? Maybe? Before the professor decides to conjure up more balloons and pop them? 'Well of course it worked.' Destiny said rather proudly. Maybe she wasn't doomed to become a healer after all. A potioneer is more like it. 'It was only one easy potion, that you made before.' Way to be optimistic.
So now that the boils were gone, the only thing let to do would be to clean. Destiny's favorite!! And thats not even a joke. Unless Evelyn wanted to clean, but then she would take all the fun away from Destiny. 'Do you want to take our notebooks up while I clean? Or you can clean..' 'Pease don't want to clean, please don't want to clean.' |

| Atypical Ravenclaw Bookworm // Hair Flipper Pro / / the edgy starbuckian // Hot Messie Mina turned off the flame and peeked inside. It was done and time to take her medicine, so to speak. She laddled some of it into a phial and eyed it. 'You better work or I shall be very upset. Well more than I am now, at least.' she thought as she raised it to her lips and drank it.
Blinking, she looked down at herself. She looked the same, felt the same. She scowled a bit, maybe she was missing something....wait, her vision wasn't as blurry now. It was slowly working, she smiled placing the phial down and picking up her quill. She quickly wrote more down on her parchment as the antidote slowly worked it's way through her system.
No more blurriness, no more yawns, no more sneezing, she wasn't cold or clammy, she didn't feel hot. No more sadness, she was actually kind of happy now. She was cured!
Quickly, she finished writing and started to clean. She only needed to cure herself and hand in her work and then she was free. Freedom on the horizon, oh she was happy. |

'Pease don't want to clean, please don't want to clean.' Was she serious? Her? Clean? Yea, uh huh. Smiling and shaking her head in amusement, Evelyn wrote down a few more things before taking hers and Destiny's notebook up to the Professor's desk. Trying her hardest not to glare at him, she actually kept up the smile she already had. She would had said something 'nice' about the class, but it would probably end up being completely different from what she thought in her head, so instead Evelyn just walked back down to Destiny and packed her bag.
"Need any help with the cleaning?" she asked, closing her bag and sitting on the stool. 'Please say no, please say no.' But of course, she wouldn't tell that Destiny, in case she really did want help with the cleaning. |

Cela probably wouldn't have been able to manage to brew counter potions without the notes she had. Some of the ingredients listed, she wouldn't have thought of on her own.
The dyssomnia potion was the first one to counter..... zzzzzzz.....
O_O
... because she kept drifting off.
Gotu Kola, tonic water, Eleuthero, Dandeline leaves, sliced Ginger root, basil oil, fresh clubmoss and dried horsebalm. It was hard to prepare the ingredients because it still felt like gravity had very little effect, like she was on the moon or something.
She measured them out....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!float.
When she woke again Celandine assembled the ingredients and boiled them in a suspension of basil oil and tonic water, just like it said to in her notes.
She fell asleep a few more times, still floating on air, before she managed to drink the bubbly potion and she felt it working instantly.
ZING!
Like REALLY WELL!
She was SO AWAKE AND READY FOR ANYTHING! Bounce.
Okay! Got to deal with this levitating thingy!
Salt.... ewwwwww dragon liver!....Flobberworm mucus, Graphorn horn, crushed basalt, water, Pomegranate juice and.... peppermint? Celandine wouldn't have thought of that but she added all of that to a fresh cauldron and followed the method set out in Nico's notes.
As soon as it was done she slowly filled a vial and drank it, instantly coming back to rest on her chair and feeling far more grounded and down to earth.
Eeek.
Cela bottled the remains of both potions and labeled them. Quote:

She got to work cleaning and scrubbing her cauldrons, by hand first and then with a few spells, then she put them away, gathered her things and with a wave for the Professor, she left the lab.

| Granddaddy Ravenclaw | | Jermione Granger Tiberius looked around the room, noticing that folks were simply brewing and drinking. Taking a deep breath, Tibi portioned out a bit of his human!pink potion and eyed it carefully.
He gave it a tentative sniff. Smelled almost... relaxing. Raising it tentatively to his lips, he tilted his head back and gulped it down. It felt like milkshake, but it tasted bitter. It was an odd combination as it went down.
Setting the phial on the table, Tibi put his hands out in front of him. The slight swelling in his fingers seemed to subside, and they moved more easily. The color returned closer to normal, too. The only red remaining the natural flush of his face from his embarrassment.
Tiberius filled another phial with the solution, labeling it carefully. Quote:

Setting it up front with the parchment where he'd recorded his notes, Tibi turned back to face the class. He marched down the center of the room, not daring to look to either side, and out into the hall.
