As you enter the dank, dark cave of a potions classroom, the first thing you might notice is the smell. A thousand different scents, good and bad, mingle together in the moist, rich air of the musty dungeon room. The room is gloomy: the lighting is dim, mostly from wall sconces where candles flicker but also from small flames under a series of cauldrons which are simmering at the back of the room. There are rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: POTIONS 101
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. First years, please ask an older student for assistance.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz Class Synopsis:
The professor has entered the room. A brief discussion about the Cardinal Rule of Potions (Know thy Ingredients) has taken place. A Worksheet has been distributed; students have been instructed to write equal and opposite ingredient pairs on this worksheet to familiarize themselves with complementary ingredients to understand the concept of negators, or neutralizing ingredients.
A brief discussion about Golpalott's FIRST law was introduced: for every ingredient, there is at least one equal and opposite ingredient that can be used as an antidote to the first ingredient.
This led to a discussion on Golpalott's Third Rule: the antidote for a blended poison will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components.
The class was informed that they have all been poisoned by means of a potion that absorbs through skin contact. Their goal? To identify their symptoms and brew the antidote to their poison by the end of class. Instructions can be found here.

Although something really foul was taking place on her back and legs, Marilyn refused to look. She gave Destiny a glance and felt the other girl panicking. She reached out her hand towards her housemate and tried to reassure her...and herself...that they'd figure this out. "Okay, you've got those crushed and are working on the fluxweed. I'm going to go ahead and lite the fire and get the cauldron hot so when we add the ingredients, they'll come to a 'brisk' boil..." She trailed off, grabbing her wand and setting a fire under Desting's cauldron. Turning towards her bag, she grabbed her purified water and case of Doxy eggs, setting them out for use.
A weird feeling was moving through her body. She heard fabric ripping and felt, more so than heard, the rustling of feathers... You've got to be kidding me! Wings?!.

Lorcan set about starting to brew the base potion, starting to feel really annoyed. What sort of irresponsible old fool poisons his pupils? He looked around and noticed that one of the older boys was crying. He made a small tutting noise under his breathe and accidentally cut his thumb with the knife he had been using. Managing not to swear some how, Lorcan stuck up his hand. "SIR" he shouted "I've cut my thumb, deeply." He wrapped it in his handkerchief and started flicking through the book for some idea of what to add to is antidote.

It was the best thing in the world -- and you have wings, now. Big scales... no, wings. Oh, oh, oh."
It really wasn't like Fyodor Balouch to cry - not, at least, when he was in a "normal" state of mind - but now, things were different. He put his head on Torin's shoulder, tears leaking down his cheeks.

Lorcan pulled the handkerchief tightly around his thumb and then looked up. The cry baby was staring at him.
"What are you looking at? have you never seen anyone cut their thumb before?" He stirred his potion a little too vigourously and it slopped over the side of the cauldron, extinguishing the flames.

You've got to be kidding me! Wings?!. Evelyn looked over when she heard a weird ripping noise, and suddenly snorted. "You have wings." she said to the other girl, which was plainly obvious. Evelyn suddenly felt elated and just couldn't stop giggling, even though it wasn't that funny.
Lazily chopping and crushing the fluxweed, Evelyn looked around to see what everyone else was doing, a huge smile on her face. Today was a good day! Who cares that they were poisoned!? Evelyn sure didn't...anymore that is. Giggling at random again, she continued to chop the fluxweed with one hand while holding an egg in the other. 'Add the doxy egg whole? Like...literally?' she thought, frowning for a moment, switching off from staring at the board to the egg, not really paying attention to what she was doing.
Shrugging, she hastily put the three doxy eggs in with the other ingredients and turned her attention back to everyone else, hardly glancing to where or what she was cutting. | |

Fyo blinked, quickly and very roughly wiped away the tears with one sleeve and, more embarrassed than he would want to admit, moved closer to his cauldron. I can't believe this, he thought to himself. I nearly told some guy I don't know my worst memory.
He still felt terrible, courtesy the "poison," but his eyes were totally dry, and he was shaking his head. He needed to hurry up with this antidote, before he did something even stupider. "Sorry," he said to Torin. It was a wonder - a HUUUGE wonder - that his cheeks weren't red with embarrassment, right now. "I didn't mean that, this potion - I mean poison - is ..."
He shut up.

If he thought that the guy crying on him was weird enough now Fyo was pouring his heart and soul out to him. only he knew that it was just the potion talking. "I don't think so, Fyo. I tried to be your best friend again. But it's okay, it really is." He wasn't mad at the boy now even though he missed him.
At the Nova comment his mouth opened in shock. That had totally came out of nowhere. Before he would have rally comforted Fyo but not he just patted him on the back again. "we all have nightmares, dude. Don't let it get to you." | |

A weird feeling was moving through her body. She heard fabric ripping and felt, more so than heard, the rustling of feathers...
You've got to be kidding me! Wings?!.
Destiny quickly pulled her hand away from Marilyn's and examined it. You couldn't even see it anymore! It was covered in feathers!
They needed this antidote quick! She finished crushing the last sprig. She watched as Marilyn lit the fire and pulled out her ingredients. It seemed like they could share the same potion since they both had the same 'mysterious symptoms'. 'These bloody feathers are itching me!' She stood up and started to scratch all over. Her back itched the most. She started to scratch, and her eyes widened. 'Oh no! Please no wings! I'm getting wings!' She sat back down and flipped through her text book. 'What ingredient do we need?' Shrugging, she hastily put the three doxy eggs in with the other ingredients and turned her attention back to everyone else, hardly glancing to where or what she was cutting. She turned when she heard laughing. Evelyn. She was happy. Too happy.
Then Destiny's wings started to grow, ripping two huge holes in her robes. She turned to look at her set of wings 'Great another set of robes ruined!' She needed that ingredient, now.

Evelyn burst into another fit of laughter when she saw Destiny with wings too, but then stared in confusion. "Why do you have wings?" she asked while starting to poke the feathery things. "And your arms..." *GiggleSnort* Suddenly feeling light, as if floating in air above the clouds and watching the stars go by, she stopped laughing when she felt her knees hit the table.
Looking down to her seat, it looked like she was...levitating? Holding onto the table, she pulled herself back down so she was sitting on the stool again. "Oh...kay?" Shaking her head and mumbling something to herself, she crushed and cut the fluxweed until they pretty much couldn't be cut...and crushed...anymore. Throwing the stuff with the other ingredients and dropping the knife next to her, close to where Destiny was working, she read what was on the board again.
"Oh...gotta make it boil!" she giggled again, lighting a fire under the cauldron. 'But why does it say to simmer when it needs to be boiled?' AH! Instructions are too confusing!! Evelyn fell into another fit of giggles, flicking stuff off the table, trying to hit people. | |

The wings extending from her back were weighing her down and making it hard for her to maneuver. The skin on her hands was starting to itch as it seemed Destiny's had...but there were no feathers to be seen. How odd. "Okay, if you've got those done, all we need to do is combine that with the water and Doxy eggs. Then once they come to a boil, we reduce the heat to a simmer. And it says something about adding a mystery ingredient. I think that's suppose to be provided..."
The blonde's eyes furrowed in concentration as she worked diligently with her fellow Slytherin. Neither of them wanted to have to walk back to the common room in their current state.
The skin that was visible on her hands outside of the dragon hide gloves was started to not only itch but...burn? "Oh no...Boils!!" There was no stopping the startled yelp that escaped her lips.

If Kay knew what was best for her, she would help Marie find her secret ingredient soon, before Marie forgot everything, includig her own name.
