Muggle Studies Suggestion Box

Because I love suggestions on possible classes to teach in future or any other creative ideas your wonderful minds can come up with, I am creating this thread for suggestions. Feel free to run any ideas at all by me, I am very open to suggestion. In fact, my whole term last year was centered around the awesome inspiration of a fellow staff member, so feel free to post your ideas away. And thank you!

A class on how Muggles have used technology to surmount the handicaps they had which wizards didnt have.
For eg, they couldnt get up on a broom and fly away, so they invented the aeroplane. Then machines and electronic goods.
Another example might be the video-conferencing over internet vis a vis the floo powder system(when people can talk through the fires.)
Somthing of a comparison.
PS: could you please tell me when the classes will be started. I always manage to miss the classes on SS.

I think we need to learn more about the Muggle History. Like where they came from and where they are now. Muggle wars may also be interesting to learn about. Another thing could be learning about the current rulers of the world, like learning about the Queen of England or the Prime Minister of Australia.

I can't wait for lessons, even though I only attended one of them since they were always closed before I could get online. *pokes TZ's*

How about muggle music..I think that topic were good.

Slytherin Princess 05-24-2009 05:21 PM

what about Muggle schools and what they learn?

Rosa Chispa Princessa 05-24-2009 05:25 PM

muggle movies, that would be fun

Muggle clothes? We always heard in the books about wizards dressing funny when they tried to dress like muggles...maybe a lesson on muggle clothing would do those pure-bloods some good ;)

I would say muggle politics, but I don't want books thrown at me. xD That'll have to be saved for something else. Probably not appropriate.

I think muggle music might be an interesting topic too and I think the history might be good to go into. And a class on the way of life the muggles lead, though that is rather a broad topic. To narrow it down, maybe their daily routine. That sort of stuff. What sorts of things they do for a living... what they do to support their family... and what they do in comparison to what people do in the wizardry world. How they tend to make decisions based on the different events and challenges that they face in comparison to those of magical heritage. Kind of getting into psychology there though. But. Yeah. Hope that makes sense. I never seem to be able to explain myself. :lmao:

muggle arctitexture? how muggle build thier homes and buildings, because in the books and movies the houses were all crazy.

dan arjay 05-25-2009 05:46 AM

Muggle royalties... their hierarchy and the lots...

Another suggestion could be the muggleworlds culture mainly about muggle myths, legends, books and folklore. Do magical and muggle children read the same books and get told the same bedtime stories? Does magical children know who cinderella and sleeping beauty are?

Hey Linda you know what? I think you should have a class on Muggle Sports! Like basball, Hockey, American Football, soccer/footbal, tennis, and basketball.

I think that would be a very cool lesson.

I think that it would be really interesting if we had classes on Muggle art, photography (this would be SO much fun running around Hogwarts with Muggle cameras - of course, they'll need to be specially charmed cameras - acting like the paparazzi especially for my next character ), and even dance in different Muggle communities/countries (which could incorporate some additional music information from hip hop to classical as well). We can even learn how to do the waltz so when the next ball comes, we'll be dancing queens ... or kings. :D

And one thing that I always thought would be fun to do is have classes on cooking food the Muggle way. Our characters can learn how to properly use Muggle appliances that are used in the kitchen (and wonder if the light in the refrigerator really shuts off once you close the door :P) and, eventually, have a cook-off with a flour fight at the end of it all. ... We can even invite the house elves to come over to class and show off their wicked cooking skills.

I think learning about Shakespear would be wonderful. Most people don't know a lot about him, other than that he is an playwirte from England. He was more than that, though. There is so much more to Shakespear that most people know. Like the fact that some people don't believe that he didn't write his plays. That there are only six of his signatures and each has been spelled wrong.

Another thing I think we could learn about is the what muggles like to do for fun in America. Like learning if they like to do the same stuff as some of us like to do.

Muggle electronics? It's a bit extensive, but maybe the basics of common robots, like washing machines? Or maybe just computers and microchips?

Felixir 10-13-2009 06:29 PM

Muggle Fairy tales and Nursery Rhymes, as opposed to things like the wizard's book Beedle the Bard

I can just see everyone listening to something like Cinderella (we know from DH that wizards don't know it)

And singing along to "Thank you very much..." and "Tinker, Tailor..."

:xd:

That and I must admit... I love me some nursery rhymes

A good old fashioned cooking class.
