Evan! Lyra looked around quickly and noticed that students were still coming in to the class. She then walked over to Evan and Rayedem, shuffling her chair and sat at the side of Evan's desk. If the professor said she had to pick her own desk she would but now she's sitting with them.

Reese walked into the classroom with a smile on her face. This was her favorite class! Not only was she good at this class, but she found it to be a very interesting class. "Hello Professor," she greeted Dumont before she grabbed herself a textbook from the desk. Glancing around the room, she decided that she was going to sit next to her Jake today. She walked over to him and sat down in the desk next to her brother and opened her book.

"Thank you," she grinned dumping her bag in the seat to save it, when he'd stopped patting it. "I'll be back in a minute, just going to get a textbook." Sarah walked to the front of the classroom and scanned the cover of the books piled on Dumont's desk.Hmmm 'Self Defence' eh? Interesting... Thumbing through the pages she shuffled back to her seat, trying not to bump into anything on the way.

Placing the open book down on her desk, Sarah removed her bag from the seat and slid into the empty space.Looking over at Nate she eyed him curiously. "You ok? You look...not all together here.If you know what I mean."

Rayedem turned from the professor's desk when he heard a familiar voice. Evan. Woooo. This class couldn't get better, now could it? And he assumed since the class hadn't started, it'd be ok to have some chat.

"Evan!" he grinned broadly, "I'm doing great! A little.. Messy after Borr's class, but I'm okay. How and where are you? We should hang out sometime." he returned the question playfully, poking Evan on his arm. That's right, he barely sees Evan anymore in school. Only in classes. He made a mental note to catch him after classes.

Then he saw Evan looking at Lyra. He followed Evan's glance and saw the girl. He smiled and waved at her.

Laura skipped into the Muggle Studies Classroom, and came to a halt at the Professors desk. "Hi Sir," she said with a grin, picking up a text book gingerly by the spine. Self Defense? But she wasn't going to get hurt was she? Nooo, she was to young to DIE!

Still holding the book gingerly between her thumb and forefinger, Laura placed it on a desk near to the back of the class and sat down.

"Oh, Blakes not my boyfriend." Nikki said shaking her head. "He's just really flirty, thats all." She added. "So do you like Muggle Studies?" She asked.

Well, he wasn't alone now. He didn't know what to talk about with Sarah. For all he knew she was here for sabotage.He watched her as she went to get the textbook and what not. Distant? He looked at her "I was just hoping that Mariel would pop up..." he said trailing off. What was he supposed to do? Lie and say oh well, ummm I'm half asleep?!

Could Evan be any happier? He was with his best friends, but as always something ruined the scene: It was Muggle Studies class, and he was still asking the question "What am I doing here?". He just wanted to gain more points and until the class started, he could have his time.

Grinning even more, he punched Lyra's shoulder playfully and winked before he turned back to Rayedem. He was extra positive today.
He laughed. "Are we all not messy after that class?" Yes, it was hard to rid of that smell, but he managed it eventually and now he could laugh at it. "I'm fine too... Yes, we definately should!" Smile. Seriously, why didn't he never see him? He took a mental note to hang around somewhere with Rayedem after class. Maybe they could go to that Maze. He heard it was pretty.

Sylvia knew straight away she was going to FAIL this class entirely.

She barely knew anything about muggles and probably wasn't going to absorb all the information that the Professor would give her. "Hai Professor Dumont." Sylvia smiled politely and took a seat next to Brody. She was clever, she may have been able to help ill-educated Sylvia.

Antonio greeted all the students as they came in. "It's wonderful to see such a good attendance so soon," he told them.

"You probably know that we didn't give out house points last year in the classroom. That was an experimental kind of thing, and this year is going to be a bit different. You will be able to earn house points in this class, but they won't be on an individual basis. I will award points for the first correct answer, but they will go to your house rather than to you personally. This gives everyone a chance to work together and earn points as a team, and teamwork is a very good thing, don't you all think?" He smiled at the group again.

"So, today's lesson is going to be on muggle self defense. Of course the muggles don't have magic and they need to have a way to protect themselves and, of course, they do. This is what we are going to be learning about in this class today. Some of you may remember that we did a class on martial arts a few terms back. But, are martial arts really self defense? What do all of you think about this? Is this a good way to defend oneself, or are there better ways?"

Oh so it was Mariel he was waiting for.
Must have been such a disappointment when it was Sarah that turned up instead.

"Oh I see.Well I'm sure she'll be along at some point, she seemed to enjoy it last term, no reason she wouldn't be here.I've not seen her today though, sorry." She smiled at him as she leant down and got some parchment and a quill out of her bag, placing on the desk alongside the textbook.

Sarah sat transfixed as Professor Dumont explained what they would be doing this lesson.Is martial arts self defence? Good question.Putting her hand up, she attmpted to give an answer. "Well martial arts can give you a bit of an advantage in some situations, especially if the person you are trying to fight off has no training.But I don't think it's specifically used as self defence, is it?"

Nathaniel had been in some muggle fights before. He listened as Sarah and Professor D both spoke. He wanted to talk to Sarah but they didn't need to lose house points. "I think Martial Arts is self defense and it's useful, Professor." he called out. This was the only class that he ever answered in.

Martial Arts was NOT self defense.

Raising her hand quickly, Tammy began to speak. "Professor, isn't it said when muggles go into martial arts, that they aren't allowed to use it on others outside of their classes. So really its isn't self defense is it? Because they aren't allowed to use it, so they wouldn't anyway... I think.." EH.

She sounded stupid.

Woodson really did dislike that word. Muggle.

Just the way it sounded. Not nearly important enough. It sounded almost offensive. Many of the most esteemed, influential people were 'muggles.' The Whitcomb family for example. Hmph.

And learning about them? That was just absurd.

Folding his long arms across his chest, Woodson leant back in his seat and simply glowered at the professor.

Evan felt the urge to make it clear that he did not like this class. The professor may seem good, but he had issues with the subject. But he needed to hold himself, because he was going to get points. Totally.

His face fell when the professor said the points would be rewarded as a teamwork. Whatever, he would still be able to get them from this class. He knew who was his team, Lyra and Rayedem. He quickly raised his hand to answer. "Some arts only teach defense, and they really work. They usually focus on disarming and not hurting, so I think these ones are much better than the ones which aim to hurt. And as Muggles can't use magic, they usually go on physical touch, and the defenses without touch use weapons, which is very bad." He talked quickly and hoped he explained his view well.

Rachel had slipped in unnoticed just before the lesson had started and was therefore prepared for Professor Dumont's first question.

"Professor," she began, raising her hand, "I think that knowing martial arts, in its simplest form, is sufficient for self defense when you're up against someone who doesn't have weapons and who is not too skilled in combat himself. Once you are facing someone with knowledge, power and weapons - the techniques become entirely different, in my opinion," she said, nodding.
"Weapons, high skills in martial arts and good legs for running away are amongst the few that are necessary," Rachel added with a small smile, knowing fully well that if she were faced with danger and no wand she'd run as fast as she could in the other direction.

Martial arts ....?

Sylvia didn't attend Hogwarts when they did this lesson! ARRRGH.
She would have to ask questions. "Sir, is martial arts the kicking, and the chopping?" She raised her hand and then gestured a few chopping actions.

"That's self defense right? But not EVERY muggle knows it? Isn't it like really difficult to learn?" Sylvia thought for a moment, and raised her hand again. "I was always told, if someone hits you, you gotta hit back. To show 'em you're not afraid of them."

Very sophisticated Sylvia.

Vivianne answered even though she wasn't the first, "Yes professor," she said. "Martial arts is a kind of self defense in the muggle world. Many people use it because it's sort of handy." She just wanted to share the thought although she knew everyone got it before she even spoke.

Having already lost focus in the class, Jake blinked to clear his head and gazed stupidly up at Dumont for a moment before answering the question he knew... or hoped, had been asked. That is, of course, after he smiled at his older sister in greeting.

"Sir," Jake started, hand raised. "I don't think we can truly say which ways are better. I mean, in my opinion, there are loads of good self defence methods... it just depends how you use them, when, if you can use them, and all that."

"I don't think Martial Arts are that great for self defense professor," Sara said as she raised her hand. "Self Defenses teaches you, first, to stay away from danger... but if danger is there, you have to have the knowledge and stregnth to defend yourself..don't you?"

"Professor" Damon said raising his hand "its my belief that martial arts are a good choice for self defense. It is just one way to stop an attacker from compromising your safety." Damon listened to the other answers but his opinion stood.

Martial Arts? That was hitting people right? And Self Defense? That must be hitting people too right? Brody glanced down at the textbook, looking a little besmused. This all seemed so silly to her really.
"Martial arts...might be a good way to defend yourself...if people knew it." Brody spoke, as she raised her hand, with a smile. "But...if they didnt know it....they could get hurt." And she most definetly didnt want to do martial arts...what if she broke a nail?

Sarah looked at the classroom and smiled. "If Y=X and X=Y, what is a Martial Art, is it something that has to do with Art as in Painting and if so is Martial got something to do with it." She was wondering about Martial Arts. "I know Marial married this person called Arts and so became Martial Arts.""

Nataly entered the mugle studies classroom. She was a Slytherin pureblood, but she wanted to know more about muggles. She didn't think they were lower than her, even i they didn't know anything about magic.
"Good morning, Proffesor." she greeted Proffesor Dumont.
Naataly saw Sara, and came to sit by her. "May I sit?" she asked the girl quietly.
Just than the proesor started the lesson, and Nataly stayed in her sit near Sara.

Nataly thought about the Proffesor's question. Martial arts were really good as defence methods, weren't they?
She raised her hand to answer. "Martial arts are a really a good way o defence, but they can be dangerous if you are not expirienced in them. If someone who never practiced them will try to use them or defence, he\she will hurt himself\herself."
