Tall bookshelves are scattered throughout the library, the smooth wood gleaming brightly in the sun that shines in through the stained glass windows. Tens of thousands of books rest upon the shelves, all waiting to be explored by eager minds. They stretch along the walls, filling each shelf and dark corner. A catalogue system has been put in place to ensure that finding and retrieving a book becomes a simple task, for the sheer amount of books can be overwhelming, particularly to the youngest of students.
At the end of the first few bookshelves in the front of the library sits a pedestal. An open book with a soft golden light emitting from it, has been placed upon the pedestal. As you approach the book, you hear a rustling and then a gentle pop. “Come closer, come closer. Don’t be afraid.” A jolly voice speaks.
When you finally do peek into the pages of a book, an elderly gentleman peers out at you, one hand rising to adjust his spectacles. “Now. What book is it that you seek? I can give you a general location or a more specific one if you know the exact title of the book.”
Once you speak your request, the man ponders for a few moments before scribbling on a piece of parchment. Squinting at what he has written, he looks back up and smiles, before speaking the location of the book. “Happy reading!” He exclaims before settling back down into a still, flat image. OOC: Please note that the jolly man is for entertainment purposes only. I will not be RPing him each time a student approaches asking for a book.  | |

Including professors." She smiled a little, deprecation and amusement fairly obvious as she continued speaking, leaning slightly against the shelf. "But just for a bit of enlightenment, what exactly are these guidelines, oh great and powerful Dominic Denton?" Something told her he was going to continue to argue, and she wanted to be comfortable. Truth be told, Dominic could really careless what footwear she was wearing as long as it wasn't disruptive of anything else going on. But for the sake of things and consistency - mostly - he needed to stick with his case. "Yes I am aware that footwear is a part of the dress code, but I figured I would point out the dress code as a whole, since it encompasses footwear. Just to be clear that footwear isn't the only item needing approval." The seventh year resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the quite stubborn (and feisty) girl. Um ... did she just attack his shoes? "Really, the issue at hand is NOT over whether or not my shoes are nice or not or fit your exceedinly HIGH standards. That isn't of concern. The issue is that your shoes were the ones that broke Hogwarts dress policy."

He should get together with Riley, since it would just be fascinating to discover how much the views of her differed. Or maybe she should just go find Chloe, and ask her if her housemate always had such amusing ideas. And then he spoke again, and she laughed as he referred to her as Miss. He thought she should have been a troublemaker, and yet he showed an odd respect. For someone who didn't seem the slightest bit curious about her, other than in the matter of informing her her shoes were against the rules. Straightening her expression out as he answered her inquiry, she pretended to narrow her eyes in thought. "I'll take that under consideration." As if she'd wear plain black shoes of any kind. The closest she would is her few pairs of black flats, and her black boots. And she'd never wear the same shoes more than one day in a row. "So, what exactly brought you into the library? Since I'm not conceited enough to think you came in here simply to inform me about my shoes," she asked, a bit curious, and wondering if the subject change would be enough to keep him guessing. Besides, her own boredom had been sufficiently dispelled.

Sylvia may have been quite the intelligant girl, but she had never been a fan of mega reading.
Ok, so a book was nice to read now and then when you're BORED, but she was actually here for education purposes. Sylvia was a little short for this bookcase so she stood on her tip-toes and tried to reach a book which she didn't really know what it was about. But she was sure it would be a nice book that she'd understand, and maybe help her with her Muggle Studies ... | |

Looking around for books, for Transfiguration, he wonders where the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe one was. He remembered reading that a few years ago, and thought that might be a good one, to use since he knew the story fairly well.
Finally after a long search JD finds the book in the top corner of one of the shelves. Covered in dust, he sneezes, when he pulls it down.
Rarely used, I take it... he thinks amusedly to himself.

Now, as much as Jake loved books and knowledge, he really did not like the library for a variety of reasons. One of those being that time he witnessed Set dropping dead at the front desk when he was eleven. Wow... two whole years ago.
Which just explained why he hated Hogwarts. Darn guardians making him stay. For now.
Bypassing the main book where people were to search for what they needed, Jake headed straight to the mythology section and pulled out a book on Medusa, before thinking for a moment and going over to the Astronomy books, not explaining many books to be there. From here, Jake pulled a few books out and went to find a quiet place to sit and study, though still in reach of the books.
Ugh, now he had to try and read these things... so Jake frowned in concentration and used his finger to follow the words as he tried to read them.

Brody was used to sitting around in libraries. She was always in the one they had at her home, so she was generally used to the quietness.
Holding one that she had taken off the shelf, Brody wandered over to find a quiet place, which just happened have a Jake Upstead sitting there too.
Smiling the blonde girl, placed the book down on the table, and sat down opposite him. "Hey Jake." She spoke quietly, as she opened the book, and began to read it.
