The observatory was empty. No cushions for the older students. No desks either.
Even all the astronomy equipment was gone.
Professor Truebridge was not there and the only thing of note within the circular room was a long, curving line which had been painted in an arc around approximately 3/4 of the tower floor. ooc: class will start shortly.
The following students are now taking ADVANCED History of Magic (and therefore are allowed to post in this class):
Kiri Starstalker, 4th Year (Antarctica!)
Raiden Kururugi, 4th Year (Ameh)
Nikki Finn, 4th Year (hermione9495) |

Daphne had been busy not looking at everyone on the other side. Especially not at Celandine. She continued to not make eye contact even as she let herself drop on a beanbag recklessly.
"Herpo the Foul, sir."

Rhea smiled and sighed deeply. Finally...something other than blood tension. She plopped unto a cushion and shot her hand up in the air.
" Bellatrix Lestrange Sir," she said confidently.
"And her husband," she added as an after thought.
Rhea frowned someone else had said her answer.
"Hmm..Peter Pettrigrew played a huge part in the Rise well second Rise of Voldemort."

| Wowza! Willow was pointedly ignoring the looks of certain people. She was perfectly happy where she was, thank you very much, and no - she did not need or wanted to sit on the dirty floor.
Hmph.
"Emeric The Evil, professor." Answered the girl, hand in the air.
That one did count, right?

Cela sat down where Cope had indicated, giving him a little grin and settling comfortably before raising her free hand. "Technically, Durmstrang students are taught Dark Arts rather than defence against so it might be a generalisation but there are definitely Dark Artists associated with that Institute..."
Y'know.
Like her brothers.

Perhaps this was why History lessons were split between the older and younger students this term? Because he was sure that the prejudices would be even harder with all years there.
Smiling slightly at the boy claiming to be a centaur, the seventh year did have to give him credit for releasing some of the mounting tension in there.
Oh good. Taking a seat one of the cushions, Dominic listened as his classmates mentioned some of the more famous dark wizards and witches. Raising his hand, he answered another name that hadn't been mentioned yet. "Merwyn the Malicious." There were a few others that he could think of, but best to only mention one for now...

One thing was for sure - History of Magic was definitely not boring at all today. Rachel's senses were aleart to each and every movement of her classmates and found herself feeling very uncomfortable with all the questions Truebridge was asking. The red line that had previously angered her so much? Now it just scared her.
She had thought that the pureblood mania was finished. Gone - no more. After the legendary Harry Potter, people should have learned that no good comes out of it. Yet Evolette McKenna and Willow Kovak were still standing on the other end of the line. On the part that stated that it should matter... But it SHOULDN'T!
Rachel had walked over and placed herself on the right side of the line from the very beginning and had stayed there until the very end. It really really scared her that not many people had joined her. She had no idea there were so many purebloods in her grade...
Then again, she didn't really think of blood status every day - thankfully. She, of course, had nothing to be ashamed of when concerning her muggle born status (although she IS stlightly ashamed of her family - about their own prejudice... The exact opposite to the one they were talking about) but it was still unnerving to be standing there with the lesser amount of people.
. . . Did he REALLY expect her to just jump back into the lesson like that, after such a DEEEEEP beginning? Shaking her head slightly, she leaned on the wall and kept silent - preferring not to take a seat. Taking a seat meant going back to reality and while this state she was in wasn't the most pleasant one, she wasn't ready to go back just yet.

Phoebus had stayed rather quiet the entire time during class; He'd been on the Muggleborn side of the line seeing as how neither of his parents were even remotely magical at all. Quite the surprise Phoebus had been, that was for sure. He moved on to the current topic and he raised his hand from where he sat. " Well, there were Alecto and Amycus Carrow." He said, and he paused to think again for a moment, hand still raised. " I'd think that they'd sort of...well qualify as Dark Wizards." He said, feeling a bit out of sorts and oddly defensive about how some people seemed to place so much importance on blood status. He was a Muggleborn and he never had any trouble with any of his subjects. Sure he might not like some of them, but he always managed to do better than a good deal of his classmates who were now being revealed to be Purebloods.

Kiri lowered herself onto one of the big cushions and crossed her legs awkwardly. She put her hand under her chin and watched as the other students chose somewhere to sit, thinking. Some of the views of some of them in the previous exercise had surprised her a little, but now that she came to think of it, as someone who had never spent much time even considering this (maybe from her comfortable position as a pure-blood), it was only to be expected that upbringing and personal experience changed how one saw the world.
What interested her the most was how people had looked when they'd stood... wherever they'd stood. Some seemed apologetic. Some defiant. And some had been really uncomfortable. Was that when character and experience didn't quite fit with what was the generally considered norm? On matters such as the importance of blood status?
She straightened up a little and raised her hand. "Professor, I believe there is also the, er... Gode...lots? Godelots? Father and son. They were owners of the Elder Wand. The father, er, used the Wand's power when he wrote Magick Moste Vile, didn't he?" Kiri paused. "No, I'm sorry, Most Evile. Anyway," she went on," he was killed by his son who wanted to possess the Elder Wand."
She paused again before continuing, "And I suppose the followers of all those Dark wizards could be added as well, even though, er, I don't really know any names."

Ethan glanced at Tino and shrugged, not at all concerned at the boy's apparent lack of participation. By saying he was a 'centaur' and refusing to stand on the line he was in fact participating anyway.
Certainly he broke the building tension.
"I suppose somewhere comfortable to sit might be nice." As Ethan said this a huge pile of cushions and beanbags appeared in the centre of the room.
"Because now that you are all thinking, we are going to get back to the topic at hand. We briefly talked about the associations of Slytherin house and the Dark Arts was mentioned. So now we are going to talk about Dark Wizards. Take a seat and tell me, who are some famous dark witches, wizards and warlocks in wizarding history?" LouAnn didn't know most of her classmates, so she wasn't one-hundred percent sure who she should be surprised about or not, when it came to taking a stand on that line. So instead of looking too much into that, she she focused her attention on the pile of cushions and beanbags that had been summoned to the center of the classroom. She chose a comfortable looking beanbag and took a seat before raising her hand.
"Antonin Dolohov is a famous dark wizard," she replied. LouAnn's mother had discussed Dolohov with her and Lucas once while being home-schooled at the Purple's dining room table. Supposedly, the man was one of the earliest Death Eaters and was responsible for torturing a number of people.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ivandermius Hart Third Year | GUESS WHO'S BACK. BACK AGAIN ♥ Team Samssy ♥ Berty Borr could easily have been regarded a Dark Wizard (although Samson was fond of him... most of the time), and so could the Minister of Magic, but Samson didn't think it wise to answer that, even when one Ravenclaw boy answered Professor Kazimeriz. He held back a snigger at that.
"Death eaters aren't as evil as Lord Voldemort or anything, but they count as Dark Wizards, don't they? Oh, and I remember my parents saying something about Gregory Crabbe, was it? Yeah, I think he was one of the students of Hogwarts in Harry Potter's time that used feindfyre. He wasn't very bright, no, but he was able to pull that spell off."
He held back another laugh, but he was serious about his answer.

| curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog Jack tapped his chin...a lot of the people were being taken already. Who else was a Dark Wizard? It was a bit disturbing, actually, as name after name was rattled off--that was a LOT of wizards gone bad. It was a bit unnerving, actually.
He raised his hand. "There was that one Yaxley fellow--I don't know his first name. He was really skilled in the Imperius Curse and he was able to keep that Thicknesse fellow under the charm and control the Ministry for Voldemort through that method," he explained. The fact that someone was SKILLED in an Unforgiveable Curse was...way scary. Yup.
He let out a snort as Plymouth mentioned Kazimeriz. That dude was SOOO a vampire! He completely agreed with the Ravenclaw--who knew what Kazimeriz's past was like? Jack figured it was something along the lines of dark magic and eating little first years. Yuppp.

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Adrienne had placed herself on the pureblood side simply because that was what she was; both her parents were magical, and as far as she knew that made her (and Riley) a pureblood. But she couldn't help but feel bad as she saw Phoebus over on the Muggleborn side, and she kept glancing over at him. Then, as people continued listing off names, she raised her hand, especially as she noticed a bit of an error. "Well, as has been said, the Death Eaters were all capable of Dark magic. So you could definitely count the Carrows, Dolohov, Yaxley, Rowle, Macnair, the Lestranges, Lucius Malfoy, Pettigrew, Avery, Rookwood, Nott, Evan Rosier, all of them. But I'd also like to point out that it was Vincent Crabbe who cast fiendfyre in Harry Potter's time. I believe the stories say it was the Carrows who taught the spell to him, and it killed him in the end. So while he was a Dark magician, so to speak, he wasn't a very good one." She trailed off, starting to worry that she wasn't really making a valid point or anything, even though she thought she was accurate.

People were soooo quick. It was unfair. But Livvy racked her brain for ideas, as she crossed her arms and tapped her foot on the floor as she thought about it. What other dark peeps were there? Everyone else had stated the basic ones. What was left for HER to say?
Ehh... Raising her hand, Livvy gave an answer. "Um. Would Circe count as one? I don't think that turning into a beast is particularly a delightful encounter. And Merwyn the Malicious... not too great of a person for inventing all those jinxes and hexes." What else? She thought so more for a few moments, searching for another famous dark wizard. "Ooh. What about Barty Crouch Jr., sir? I believe he may have been involved in the Dark Arts one way or another," Livvy said. Hmm.
She chuckled gently at Plymouth's comment on Professor Kazimeriz being involved in the Dark Arts. The guy was CREEPY... that's fo sho... she'd give the boy that. And really... what professor gave a student ear hair on the first day? Apparently one that was like Kazimeriz.

"Well, I think that casting a dark spell doesn't necessarily make someone evil. Harry Potter tried to cast an Unforgiveable on Bellatrix Lestrange once, didn't he? But he wasn't a bad person, that can't be argued. I think that, to be a 'dark;' wizard," he added, using air quotes to try and make his point come across easier, "one has to cast dark spells with the intention of causing harm to someone. Anyone can cast a dark spell but that doesn't make them a bad person."
Well, that was his opinion, at least.
