| | Herbology Lesson Two: Devil's Snare & Flitterbloom Professor Bunbury stood just inside the door to Greenhouse Four, tapping one foot slowly as she waited for the class to arrive. She held a small plastic container under one arm which she would offer to students as they came in.
"Drop your wand off here and take a seat," she announced once the first student had arrived, before adding, "please," with a small, evil smirk. ooc note: describe your wand length, wood, core, etc. as you RP leaving it with Bunz. ;D |

The snare wanted — and deserved — an apology, obviously.
"Yes, relax and apologize for insulting and cursing at the Devil's Snare and I'm sure it will let you go," Bunbury nodded at LouAnn and petted the plant lovingly from beside Josh. "See boy, I told yo---"
She cut herself off with a sudden glare to LouAnn. "Don't even THINK about getting your wands. NO SUNLIGHT. NONE. I am enough of a deterrent. See, the Snare has already stopped trying to yank Josh's arm off."
It wasn't letting go, but at least it wasn't causing him as much pain now. And to be on the safe side, Bunz summoned the box of wands to her side and levitated them to sit by her feet. "Don't even think of coming closer, any of you, or making a move for your wands. I'm serious." The Devil's Snare was also very serious. It suddenly seemed to get nervous and fidgety now that the wands were sitting thisclose to its base. The vines enclosing Josh's wrist started to move and quiver a little, just snaking around and shifting although it didn't tighten at all. It must have felt like some sort of jiggling bangle or bracelet to the boy.
"Ha ha haaaa," the redhead laughed dryly at Copernicus, not budging from her calming of the plant however. "That's the next course of action, actually."
"If you wish to test yourself against this plant, I'd suggest coming over HERE to this much more individual specimen." Bunz didn't notice that the plant was starting to tug at Josh again now that she had taken her hands off it. "Honestly. Or if you can't pay attention, then I can assign you something to do until we move to the next part of the lesson."
Josh was trying to concatrate but the voices behind shouting him to relax were the main obstacle to it. He was distracted too easily and there was still the fact that a wild plant was attacking him. He simply glared at the Ravenclaw boy after he asked what he thought about knocking him out ''I think you are the brightest Ravenclaw i have ever seen. Try it yourself if you dare'' he said sarcastically and looked back at the plant to think of another way to get rid of its annoying and hurting vines.
It could take a full grown Dragon at ease!? Very good. He tried not to pay attention to anything Professor Bunbury and other students was uttering for they were not helping. Especially the Professor who seemed to enjoy it since she laughed at the Ravenclaw's remark of knocking him out.
He was relieved a little when she kinda made it stop like it was her little pet. 'Devil's Snare or Evil Professor's Pet'. He took this opportunity to have few breaths since he was nearly out of breath thanks to his struggling. ''Apology?'' he replied rebelliously ''To what should i apologize exactly? A bunch of green, sticky vines?''. That was really...pointless. How could a plant understand language?
The Gryffindor did more attempts on freeing himself from the plant as Bunbury was distracted by some other students but gasped the next moment as it started to hurt again. ''Okay, okay...'' he surrendered reluctantly and stopped himself ''I'm sorry for insulting you plant. You are cool and cold.'' then he looked at the professor ''Is it okay now?''

Hadn't the poor samples been through enough after Bunz's demonstration? She had to take her hands off the Devil's Snare around Josh's arm for a moment to flick her wand at the plants the girls were touching. The two glass covers snapped down on top of the Devil's Snare and sealed so no one else could get to it.

They were like any creature that deserved to be respected. Devil's Snare seemed to have a bad reputation, like many other specimens in the wizarding world and Rafe seemed to have a connection to the plant. Rafe calmly went over the the plant Professor Bunsbury was talking about. Rafe calmly place his hand on one of the tentacles, not afraid and not timid. He hoped that if he remained calm the plant would was well. Oddly, the devil's snare reminded him of a puppy. He gave it a little tickle and continued to observe the constricting plant. "You're not so bad are you," Rafe said. Wait?! Was he speaking to a plant? But that didn't seem to faze him. He didn't understand why the other students were so terrified.

Tavelon stood in line. Yep, it was interesting. But none the less, the snare seemed to be rather aggravated. He wished Josh would hurry up and make it let go. The longer Tavelon waited, the more uneasy he became. Something about the anticipation...

| Super Slytherin Buddy | | ⅓ She-Snake Trio | | a normal girl with normal knees Evelyn sighed in frustration when she felt the bin of wands being tugged out of her arms and flew towards the Professor, watching it land at her feet. 'Now that's going to be impossible to get.' she thought, her face set into a pout.
Well, at least the plant stopped trying to kill Josh. Aaaand now it was again. Maybe if she turned around, Evelyn wouldn't panic as much because then she wouldn't be watching what happens. Good idea! Turning around, she stared from the door, to the plants in the front, to the little devilish snares (ew), to finally the desk she was leaning on. 'Oh, cool quill...' she thought, finally distracted.

Once again, Jack sat there rather calmly as people started fussing over the plant AGAIN--poor Bunbury. Everyone was just going NUTS this class! He watched as Josh struggled with the plant and, more importantly, as the PLANT started to wrap around his arm even tighter. EEEP! THAT WAS HIS THROWING ARM! Jack NEEDED that arm!
But, Josh was a good boy and apologized to the plant--but it wouldn't do him much good if he kept moving around like that! All the Captain could do was watching, hoping that the plant didn't inflict TOO much damage on his Chaser.

She folded her arms and waited for the apology that was sure to come. Question was, would it be sincere enough? A few tendrils snaked back into the interior of the rest of the plant, as if it were deciding whether or not to reallllllly let the boy go. Quote:

Then another Gryffindork approached and started touching the plant. Right away its vines seemed to leap to the over from Josh's hands to curl up around Rafe's wrists. It liked the little tickle though, so it didn't strangle him really. Just a friendly squeeze around the wrists for a moment and then all the vines and arms of the Devil's Snare retreated back into its giant mass and it went stationary again, absolutely immobile.
Bunz watched the small exchange with a blank expression until the plant had calmed itself. "Ah, there, see, no harm done to any students," she muttered to herself, still blinking at it as if surprised the apology had worked. Snarey had never been that forgiving of her. "I'd suggest backing away now though, both of you," she added, steering Josh and Rafe away from the plant slightly. Odd that it had been somewhat nice to those two. Hmm.
"Does anyone else wish to step up and offer an arm or leg to the Devil's Snare?" Anastasia scooped up the bin of wands and chucked her current one in there. She'd be picking out another one shortly. "Hurry up, a few of you can go at a time. Just don't panic."

Rafe laughed as the devil's snare gave him a squeeze. It was like the plant was giving him a little handshake or its way of saying hello. Rafe gave Josh a nod as they both had survived the "ferocious" snare. It was actually quite cute. Though Rafe was sure the plant wouldn't want that reputation.
Rafe took a couple of steps back. "Thank you Professor Bunbury, that was quite an experience!" he said cheerfully. Hopefully other students wouldn't go in quite a panic. "It's just like other species in the wizarding world...goblins, vampires...werewolves...they're very misunderstood, but once you get to know them and approach them in a kind manner, they're not as dangerous as their reputation."

"Hurry up, a few of you can go at a time. Just don't panic." She was testing their wands? Trying to see which would suit her best? Tavelon hoped she didn't like redwood. Blocking those thoughts from his mind, he stepped up to the snare and plunged his hand in. It was squishy, and didn't seem to offer much resistance. Tavelon wondered when it would attack him, and as if to answer his question, long tendrils began wrapping around his arm.
Tavelon was pretty sure he jumped. That was not a sensation one could easily get used to. Very much like rappelling. Knowing and anticipating the danger and plunging right into it. Startled, he instinctively tried pulling his arm back out, but the snare only tightened.
That's right... calm... breathe... stay calm he thought. It was easier said than done, but he tried to focus on relaxing.

Livvy stood in line, patiently waiting her turn as she watched student after student go up there and stick their hands in the Devil's Snare. Many of which that seemed like they were going to be eaten! Though Livvy was perfect fine with that. They were Gryffindors after all. Like she said on the Practice Pitch... the more Gryffindors you injure... the better! She planned on letting the Devil's Snare take over though. "Oh! I'd like to give it a try, professor!" Livvy said, grinning as she stepped up to the plants. Don't panic... you'll be fine. Ravenclaw just wouldn't do without her arm. She was a Chaser after all. It was okay if the Devil's Snare ate a Gryffindor's arm, just not any Ravenclaw's. That just wouldn't do.
Taking a deep breath, she too shoved her arm into the plant. OH! Coooold! The feel of the vines slithered around her arms, closing in on it, bringing goosebumps to her skin and created a tingling feeling. Noooot cool. Totally... not... cool. Biting her lip, Livvy took deep breaths as she remained calm, despite the fact that her hand and almost her entire arm was covered in vines and if she daresay panicked, she'd be in deep trouble.
... What was she looking for again?

He silently willed the younger boy to control his temper--he did NOT need his Keeper in detention for the upcoming match! If he did land himself in the dungeons, Jack was NOT opposed to bribing Bunz into keeping him there forever. He'd probably be safer in THERE than when Jack got his hands on him. No one messed with him and Quidditch!
Besides, it was BUNBURY. This behavior was just expected by now.
He raised his hand. "Can I give it a go too, Professor?" he asked her.

| Wowza! This was class was insanity.
And people seemed to be insane, too, for offering themselves to play with the Devil's Snare and what on EARTH did Olivia Zhang meant with wanting to try? Surely she didn't want to be a rat lab? Surely not.
More like yes.
If Olivia died before the match against Jack Fritzera's team and Willow ended up without one of her chasers, the seventh year would personally make Olivia pay for it, whether she was dead or not. Because you've better believe that Willow would find a way.

'Huh, maybe i should try and actually use all this stuff other people buy instead of all the expensive stuff i get. This one is actually cool...' she thought, lifting the quill up to the light in the room.
Upon hearing someone talk about how 'innocent' werewolves and vampires were, Evelyn snorted and turned to whoever was talking about them and she spotted Rafe. Oh. Well she definitely wasn't going to yell at him about that stuff. He was generally a nice person. Which reminded her...'I still have yet to congratulate him on making the quidditch team! Ugh, I'm such a horrible person...'
Walking over, and forgetting all about herself panicking and the devils snare, she smiled sweetly and was just about to talk to him when she noticed the wand in the professor's hands. No. No no no no NO NO! That was HER wand! The professor was HOLDING IT! Ah! Let it go! Stop touching it!! "Professor, I'll have a go with the devils snare." she heard herself say, walking over to the plant and keeping her eyes on her dark wand. Evelyn was a little worried though, since the voice in her mind hadn't done anything to take control or...anything! The last time someone touched her wand, it didn't end pretty. But this time...nothing was happening. Weird...
Standing as close to the professor as she could, she mindlessly stuck her arm out and touched the snare, feeling the vines wrap around her arm immediately surprising her, but she didn't care. She was too busy staring at her wand and trying to secretly reach out to it to grab it, though the snare was slightly holding her back. |

She had a short temper, she wasn't the type to sit still for long, and she certainly wasn't someone who could go five minutes without talking.
But if letting the plant wrap around you was neccessary, then she'd [s]unwillingly[/u] do it. Nikki waited for the professor to reply to her, looking over at some of the students who were slowly being pulled toward the Devil Snare. Some of them clearly weren't following the professors advice to stay calm, and honestly, Nikki couldn't help but smirk.

EEEEPP! Dun kill her. No shoving? Got it.
Sigh. Livvy took a deep breath and let her arm loosen up and relax. She let her muscles that were once tense, let go of the feeling. She stood perfectly still, her arm limp in the grasps of the vines. Didn't she hear something about standing still from a student earlier? Whatever. Livvy hoped that it'd work. Because if SHE lost that arm. Or if SHE died. She'd come back and make that kid pay. If she was dead, Livvy would just come back and haunt her. And maybe haunt Bunbury a tad bit for making them do this.
It was only sensible.
Livvy glanced over to where Willow stood and boy did she NOT look happy. Then again. The girl was NEVER happy. EVER. Livvy began to wonder if her Quidditch Captain had difficulties experiencing emotions or maybe it was a permanent Botox where her face just remained the same forever.
Did Devil's Snare like tickle fights? Livvy had the slightest urge to begin one, but she wasn't sure how the plant would act towards that.

Chris smiled and after bulking up the courage, (because you know Gryffindor is the house of Bravery!) he raised his hand and said, "Professor I think I will try out the Devil's Snare." he walked up calmly and stuck his arm into the large plant twirling it around enough to get it's attention. Soon he felt a few of the tendrils wrap around his arm and squeeze. He was immeadiatley freaked out but he tried his hardest and eventually calmed himself and didn't move to free his arm.

"Hey, Professor!" LouAnn called out, waving both arms in the air as if she was calling out to someone standing half a mile away. She was, though, about four feet away from Professor Bunbury. "Are you calling us up a few at a time or can we just dive right on in there when the current crowd clears away?" She peeked over the professor and eyed the crazy little plants. She was sure, positively sure, they'd eat her alive. Her classmates looked to be having a pretty good time, though. Well...some of them, at least.

No one messed with him and Quidditch!
Besides, it was BUNBURY. This behavior was just expected by now.
He raised his hand. "Can I give it a go too, Professor?" he asked her. Quote:

"So yes Jack, LouAnn, go ahead and attempt to tackle the Snare," Bunbury shooed the Gryffindors toward the plant with her lovely stolen wand. It made a nice tingling feeling in her when she waved it about excessively. Quote:

More like yes.
If Olivia died before the match against Jack Fritzera's team and Willow ended up without one of her chasers, the seventh year would personally make Olivia pay for it, whether she was dead or not. Because you've better believe that Willow would find a way.
HMPH. "Kovac," the professor called out, "too afraid to approach the Devil's Snare?" Or did her face always have that permanent scowl etched onto it? Quote:

Bunz flipped and twirled her current wand from hand to hand, as careless as a Muggle drum majorette. She was absolutely oblivious to the Devil's Snare creeping up not just the arms but also the legs and robes of the Slytherin trying to sneak her wand back. Quote:

When the Ravenclaw girl went limp, the Snare got bored and slowly retracted its tendrils to seek out another victim. Bah. 'Claws were too smart to squeeze... unless one of them stuck its head out so the plant could make brain!juice.... Quote:

OOH another Gryffindork! This was clearest the least intelligent of all the Houses since all of them seemed to want to dance a tangly tango with Snarey. The plan immediately latched onto Chris' arm, crawling its way up to his shoulder and squeezing as it went... just testing the boy to see if he would fight back.

Chris felt it latch on and then he breathed deeply and didn't move at all. He was perfectly still and quiet waiting for it to come off. Any time soon.

It made a nice tingling feeling in her when she waved it about excessively. LouAnn continued to eye the plant, wondering what would happen if she dove atop it and attempted to crowd surf. It would probably just...eat her faster, yup. "It's not hungry, is it?" she asked the professor, not really expecting an answer to that question. She was more or less just wondering aloud. She took a tiny step forward then stopped to eye the plant some more. Cautiously and carefully were the names of the game.
LouAnn jumped when an outstretched wand shooed her forward. The professor...was just trying to kill her faster, too, wasn't she? LouAnn took another tiny step forward, close enough to be able to just smellll trouble brewing. "If I die, I want my little brother to have my owl, Lilac. Oh, and Reese Upstead can have my black cat, Violet," she said, this time eying the professor. With that, she stuck one tiny little finger into the plant.

Leaning further even more towards the Professor, she was juuuust about to grab the wand that was being...carelessly...tossed...from hand to hand (fingerprints!!), when Evelyn felt something snake around her ankle and pull, making her trip and fall slightly into the plant. 'Oh no, ohhh no no no.' she thought, panicking. She could feel the plant start to grab onto her other arm and leg as well, trapping her. 'Stupid move! Why did i do this in the first place? I'm gunna die!' Trying to pull her arms and legs out, which did no help whatsoever, she completely forgot to stay calm. Also adding the fact that Evelyn was completely and utterly terrified of the snare plant in the first place...it was definitely not a good position for her. |

Good, cause no way was she letting the plant touch her. "Thank you. I'm honestly not a very calm person. The Snare would probably kill me in a matter of seconds." She said, observing some students as the Gryffindor Prefect yelled out that he was gonna touch the snare. Did he really need to annouce that? Bunbury already knew that most of the students were gonna test out touching the plant.

Ooh, this one was ash, 10 and 1/3 inches. Hmm. Bunz hefted the wand from hand to hand and discovered that she liked it... maybe it was the basilisk fang in its core? Well she'd have to keep this one until she could test it out with a spell or two or twenty....
"Mhmmm," the redhead drawled, turning back toward the students and the snare. Was he seriously being cheerful in her class? Reallllly?
"Duh plants have feelings," she added by way of answer, watching the Snare curl up and try to yank both the Ravenclaw and the Hufflepuff into its clutches. It was a bit like Tug-of-War and obviously the plant was winning against the smaller students... already Annie could see their shoes squeaking closer and closer to the rest of the plant as it pulled at them.
She focused her attention back on Rafe for a minute and waved her new wand about dismissively. "Plants are not at ALL like those other monsters you just listed however.... werewolves... HA!" She shook her head no. "Plants don't usually make noises and can't communicate verbally like humans and wolves, see."
And they weren't all hairy and nasty and dog-like. Gross.
Shrugging off the thought of such a horrible comparison - Devil's Snare and a werewolf, honestly - Bunz took a step closer to the two students testing themselves now. "Remember to relax and it will let gooooo...." Relax... yes... that's it.... Tavelon thought, trying to ease the snare off of him. It was just loosening up when he saw Bunz reaching into the bin again WHAT! SHE'S GETTING ANOTHER WAND! DON'T STEAL MY WAND! He took a step towards her, forgetting that the snare hadn't fully let go yet. Immediately it seized up, tightening and Tavelon tripped. "AHH!" he exclaimed, hitting the ground. Breathe.... calm down...
He stayed still, watching the vines snaking around his arm.

Livvy could feel the vines loosening its grip on her arm and as it slowly withdrew its tendrils. FREEDOM BABEH! Before she could bask in her glory and victory, she slowly and cautiously began to slide her arm out from the pile of vines. Hum de dum dummm... Livvy patiently pulled her arm out and then it was FREEEEEE!!!! YAAYZ! She survived.
WHEW. Livvy was getting worried there. Nawwww... no sweat. She was a Ravenclaw. Ravenclaws don't die from Devil's Snare. That's the way Gryffindors go. Not Ravenclaws.
She then stepped away from the Snare so that other students could give it a shot and possibly get their arm taken off. Livvy looked over at her Quidditch Captain and grinned in triumph. "WIIILLLOW! I survived! Don't worry. Mah mighty Chaser arm is still in tact for the big game," she said, nodding her head to reassure the girl.
