| | Herbology Lesson Two: Devil's Snare & Flitterbloom Professor Bunbury stood just inside the door to Greenhouse Four, tapping one foot slowly as she waited for the class to arrive. She held a small plastic container under one arm which she would offer to students as they came in.
"Drop your wand off here and take a seat," she announced once the first student had arrived, before adding, "please," with a small, evil smirk. ooc note: describe your wand length, wood, core, etc. as you RP leaving it with Bunz. ;D |

"For the thousandth time," Professor Bunbury called out in a clearly annoyed tone, "this plant is not that dangerous. It will not snap my boots off if I come any closer to it and it will not strangle me to death, as much as some of you are wishing that to happen."
She rolled her eyes and vanished the two glass coverings from each sample with a flick of that willow wand. There, see, that answered LouAnn's question. That was what she had been planning to do with it. She tossed the wand back into the bin with the others and continued.
"Now, to tell which plant is which, like some of you suggested," she nodded at the somewhat-more intelligent children of the group, "you could expose them both to light and basically kill off the Devil's Snare. And I will be teaching you a spell like that later. But for now, let's examine the physical characteristics."
She moved her hands out over each sample of the plant and held them there, just like she was absorbing the warmth of a fire or something. As Bunbury moved her hands closer and lower to the samples, they remained perfectly still and calm. Small samples. Not much personality there.
Then Annie went for the dramatic effect and sank both her hands into the two little plants up to the wrists. Immediately, both wrapped around her wrists and wrapped and wrapped up and wrapped and worked their way up to over her fingers, which she was deliberately wriggling, until her hands were completely covered and slowly turning purple.
"Ohhhhh no OHH NOOO, what am I EVER going TO DO??! I think I'm being STRANGLED! GEEEEE!!!" the redhead dramatized, flailing her arms about like Jake Upstead a headless hippogriff. Then, as abruptly as she had started, she stopped and calmly placed her hands on her hips and let them rest there immobile for a few silent minutes.
Slowly, bit by bit, tendril by tendril, the Devil's Snare - for yes, both samples had been Devil's Snare - unwrapped itself from Bunbury's wrists and fell to the ground. She calmly picked them back up and placed them in their respective spots before rubbing her wrists and glancing back at the class.
"There now, see, that was not dangerous." Okay so her skin was a little red and a little irritated but otherwise unharmed. "Now which is which? Now what can you tell me about the physical characteristics of Devil's Snare? Do you see why it's vital to NOT PANIC and be intelligent around some plants? Hmm?" Tavelon arched his eyebrows, quite surprised. He was hesitant to respond, as he had already seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot with Bunz. But still- even small devil's snare size of a potted plant had killed people before. Raising his hand slowly, he answered "Well, it's sort of slimy... It likes darkness... and damp, too. And if you touch it and struggle it will try to strangle you." It was a pretty simple response, but then again those were it's prominent features. What more did one need to know about a heap of vines that strangles people?
"Erm... Professor, what does Devil's Snare do with it's victims? Once they're strangled, I mean.... what's the point? Is it just sadistic that way?"

| Wowza! Bunbury was clearly out of her mind, and this class was completely ridiculous.
She'd never need to deal with plants in the future -because Willow had no intention of having a garden when she got her own place-, therefore, this class was useless to her. Why had she decided to continue on it again? Oh, right - she hadn't; father had. Gotcha.
... And what was the question again? Oh, right. Those ... things. That strangled people if you overreacted and flailed your head off at it. Or something or the other. How the hell had she gotten an E at her Herbology OWL again? "I suppose that if you start to panic and move around like a mentally ill-person, the Devil's Snaer will feel threatened and will do anything on its power to protect itself by trying to strangle you." Drawled the girl with her hand in the air and an apathetic expression on her face, "So I'm guessing that it can indeed do that, they are probably physically soft, smooth, and perhaps more than a little flexible, too. It also looks a little bit ... slimmy." Gross. Keep that thing away from me.
She wrinkled her nose.

Jake, who had watched the spectacle in silence, an old shadow of him forcing its way out, raised his hand. "You don't know what it could be... not really. Could just be a potted plant one might keep in their office."
Teehee.
But, one more look at the plants, and the colour drained from Jake's face as he seemed to have an internal battle with not-Jake. "Sometime... yer hafta... You have to panic, because... 'cause, lllllike... yer can't cuh-cuh-control p-p-panic..." Jake shook his head. GAH! Weakling; Jake was disgusted... so scared. "It just can't be helped. Especially when you're cowering before someone who forces you to sit on it..."
Tsk, tsk.

This woman, WAS INSANE. As Tammy sat, silent in awe of the madness that Bunbury was committing infront of them, she sighed. Okay, so she should have known the answers to these questions, but her brain was having a blank. Simple. Blank brain, because there was no wand.
Quickly glancing over towards the pile of wands, she chuckled softly, that little pinkish tinge of wood in her wand. She could see it, somehow. Maybe not. Stupid 10 inch rosewood and unicorn hair wand. PINK? Pink tinge?

Chris watched as Professor Bunbury plunged her hands into the Devil's Snare and the supposed Flitterbloom. It turned out they were both Devil's snare. Trick question. He wasn't as worried as some of the other students in the class. She was the Herbology professor right, She knew what she was doing.
He smiled brightly when she calmly had the plants release her without any trouble and then raised his hand to answer her question. "Well like you said Devil's Snare attacks when it feels threatened. So a vital lesson to learn in Herbology is to not threaten or harm plants and to be intelligent enough to not do so. But it would also be good to learn the characteristics of said dangerous plants and avoid them if necessary." |

Samson wasn't even going to argue, but he was still reluctant about leaving his wand. What if she never gave them back? He LOVED his wand. Meh.
As he watched the lesson transpire, and the rather unconvincing Devil Snare stunt the professor pulled, he found that they were in more need of wands than the plants were in danger of them. Hmph. It was most certain and most obvious that these plants in Greenhouse Four were the potential harmfuls. And yet, Professor Bunbury treated them like her own children. Figures.
Still, he had to participate. He wasn't going to lose his wand over nothing. "Devil Snare has a bigger chance to try to wrap their greedy tentacles around you if you struggle while in them. And to panic would not be a wise idea since... Oh, I dunno. The plants might get hurt? They've... what? Got feelings, too?" He hadn't meant to be sarcastic, but they were the exact things he was thinking right now.
Perhaps he should have been a bit more discreet?

Abigail pressed her lips together to stop herself from laughing at the professor’s display with the small plants, she had a feeling it wasn’t meant to be funny. No one else seemed to see the funny side though; in fact some of them seemed to be taking it a bit too seriously. Really you just have to keep calm around devil’s snare and you’ll be fine. “Devil’s snare is vine like isn’t it? And you have to be calm because if you’re calm the plants calm, and has no reason to be worried about you.” |

Oh no, she needs to put them lids back on right now!
This woman was off her rocker, putting her hands so close to them.. now she is touching them, and now they are wrapping around her, and now she is screaming..
Destiny sat there with her hands over her mouth. She didn't know what to do. All she could do was watch as this crazy lady was being attacked by crazy plants. If only she had her wand! She thought of running up to the bin to grab hers and put these plants out of their misery, but then the professor was calm? And the plants are unwrapping themselves?
Destiny felt a rush of relief. No worries, no worries. 'Not panic around plants? How about we just stay away from all plants?' |

Tsk, tsk. And look, there was one half-strangled example right there. Bunz blinked owlishly at Jake's first answer but before she had a chance to puzzle it out all the way, he was back to his usual stuttering self.
"You can control panic, Jake," she tried to explain in a quiet tone, unless you happened to be afraid of ghosts, because that was the obvious exception to the rule, "but I don't think you will be able to learn that lesson from me."
She sighed and stared down at whoever's wand this was while a few more students ratttled off answers.
"Yes, yes, points to all who answered intelligently. Plants do have feelings. And they will get offended and defend themselves if you flail about and lose your cool."
Bunbury walked to the side of the desks where the usual jungle of plants began. "Now, I would like to offer you an opportunity to observe a larger quantity of Devil's Snare and test yourself against it if you think you have the nerve AND the composure."
She stuck her nose up slightly and stared around at them all. "As you might have noticed between the two samples from earlier, some varieties of Devil's Snare are more tame and smooth. The older, more archaic and powerful varieties may be rougher and a bit prickly. I happen to have a very rare, most ancient and noble specimen in the back should you care to observe the plant."
And thus the professor turned on her heel and led the way to the darkest, most shady and shifty corner of the greenhouse where the mass of vine rested, almost untouched since its last encounter with a student.

Josh watched professor looking quite uninterested just like he was watching a documentary about muggles.'They feeded on us?' Come and see the name : Devil's Snare and it did not even attemp to kill, just some little red spots. Was that the plant that everyone was fussing about? ''Ahh yess, so terrifying. I have just wet myself'' he whispered to the student sitting next to him and laughed.
One he was still again he stood up when Professor Bunbury has asked for someone with nerve ''I can try Professor'' he jumped on his feet quickly ''I'd love to make the Devil's Snare, Devil's Whine. What do you think?''

Deciding that she'd already been mean enough, she watched momentarily not wanting to get any closer to the plant by any means.

Evelyn shook her head no, not being able to speak at the moment. She was still a little 'traumatized' with the little 'deadly' snare. It was way too close to her. 'Stupid snare.' Why was she so scared of it? Well, she didn't know...she just was. 'I'd rather have a million detentions, lose all the house points, actually be in the same room as my parents...than to touch that plant. Or come into five feet of it.' she thought, wringing her hands together slightly.
Did the professor say she had an even bigger snare? Where?! The color drained from Evelyn's face when the professor started walking towards the back of the room. Where she was. To the corner. Where she was. Walking towards a plant, that was right next to her! "That...that...that..." stuttering and pointing to the large plant she was practically almost sittING ON (though it was more like twenty feet away), Evelyn jumped up again and moved hurriedly towards the front of the room. 'I was that close. I could've been killed.' Breathing in deeply, and almost hyperventilating, 'Yea, way to be strong Ev.' she leaned back on a desk and tried to keep herself normal looking as possible. 'Pfft, like that was working.'

... That woman... was a maniac. A cannibalistic maniac. That's what she was. Shoving both her hands into Devil's Snare. Sure, Devil's Snare wasn't actually as dangerous as everyone thought it was. Ohhh... big and scawweh. It's gonna EATCHU! No. No. That was just stupid. But still... was that woman INSANE?! Yes. Yes. Yes she was.
Livvy was prepared to yank the Professor's arms from those creepy vines in case it was needed. But the Professor pulled out her arms, calmly, as if nothing had happened. Insane. Totally.
She raised her hand into her air, "Yeaahhh... plants are like animals and humans. They've got feelings all right. Flailing about around a plant is like telling someone they're fat. And that's not cool. If you flail around, of course the plant's going to feel threatened. How would you feel if some random person was running towards you, flailing your arms at you? Would you slap? Or give 'em a hug? Same with animals. If ya poke a lion... they'll bite. If you let 'em be and respect them, they're not going to eat you."
Livvy then listened to the Professor's next instructions. Test themselves? Like literally offer themselves to the Devil's Snare? Silly Livvy. They weren't going to eat her hands off. She watched as the Professor walked towards a dark corner and gestured towards where a pot of creepy and ancient vines laid. That sounded mean. CORRECTION. Where a pot of lovely Devil's Snare laid.

As the woman led the way to the back of the greenhouse, Jake froze, hovering somewhere between the odd Jake and the normalish Jake, before following on. He stopped by the tub of wands for a few seconds before plunging his hand in and grabbing hold of his own wand (because you just KNOW which one is yours) and shoving it back into his pocket, keeping one hand on it.
Pushing his way to the front, Jake stood quietly and stared at the plant, starting to shake a little. He made up his mind... if that thing came ANYWHERE near him, he'd blast it to Nuremburg.

| ♥ Mrs. Itachi Uchiha™ & MAJNOO! : Bleach & Kyo & Natsume ♥ [ Maxh!Jesh ] Interesting, quite interesting. Eyes on Professor Bunbury [you could never what the woman might do!], Fyo was all attention. Suuuure, he felt pretty stuuupid right now [he couldn't even think of proper answers, UGGH], but it was good to hear her voice, all the same. She seemed to know what she was talking about and, she-devil though she might be, the "YUS! I know and you don't, you little THING!" tones comforted him.
WAIT A SECOND. A test? So they were up against the Devil's Snare now, or something like that? That was... pretty evil and cool! Fyo followed the she-devil, Professor Bunbury, rather cheerful. |

Did Destiny hear correctly? She had a bigger plant over there? And now her eyes are playing tricks on her. She couldn't be on her way to fetch it, could she?
Cleaning her glasses and throwing them quickly on her face, Destiny realized this was no joke. 'Umm, professsssooooor? I don't wanna touch it!' There. She had told her.
Looking over to Evelyn, who seemed to be playing musical chairs, Destiny gave her a small smile. She looked more scared than herself.
See!? Destiny wasn't crazy. This plant was scary!
She wanted her wand back!

Herminny felt willing to have a go with the devils snare cause she knew that as long as she did'nt panic she would be fine. It would be a test of will and trust that she was pretty sure she could handle and raised her hand and said, " I'll have a go with the devils snare cause I trust if I treat the plant with respect and not panic scaring the plant to react violently I should be alright cause you'll be right here to save me.".

Yep, Tavelon was full of questions today. Too bad 'Philosopher' wasn't a paying job.

At least she had a reason to back up her absences from Herbology now. The sixth year had never felt more stupid in her WHOLE life - and that included the time when *censored - WAAAAY too stupid*. So yeah; she wasn't feeling very good about herself right at this moment. She had spent the whole lesson staring blankly at Bunbury's hair - it was the only shiny thing in the room - while trying unsuccessfully to listen and comprehend what they class was actually about.
Feelings? Plants? Devil's Snare... SUICIDAL HERBOLOGY PROFESSOR - ohwait, she was also insane too.
There was NO WAY Rachel was going anywhere near that creepy vine thing. Just the NAME made her want to flee the vicinity... Looking over at the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team as he made his announcement, she couldn't help but snort. Right. Like THAT was supposed to encourage her.
She stayed back. WAY back.

She rolled her eyes and tutted, getting impatient with the lesson and to her horror, she seemed to be feeding off the vibes Bunbury was giving out. But.. she did agree with what the woman saying – if the human race were to evolve into something better then the world WAS better off without people who slept beside Devil's Snare. Idiots.
She stood and followed behind the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain fascinated to see the ancient plant. If it attacked the little Slytherin then she would get her dad to sue the designer boots off the professor. She got up on her tiptoes, being so small, it was hard to see over the heads of the the giants who insisted on standing in front of her.

"You'll be first," she nodded at the boy. "But remember, with your class as your witness, I EDUCATED all of you on the potential pitfalls of what happens when you don't respect plants. I warned you, Mr. Carter."
She flicked an invisible speck of dust off her robes and gestured toward the springy plant with her stolen borrowed student wand. "Do not sit on it, do not bite it, do not fight it. Dude.
EVERYTIME!
Well, what Bunz didn't know about was the extra wand s he had stashed about his person.
Bwaha.
Sparing Bunbury a glare, Jake decided to play it off like he didn't care. As long as he got that one back, because, quite frankly he was running low on spare wands... and those things cost MONEY! And alot of bribery. Chyeah.
"What an ingenius solution..." he muttered under his breath. "Stealing a child's only means of protection from old hags..." Okay, yes... THAT part was said under his breath. To himself. Too quiet for Bunz's ears.
