A sweet and aromatic scent was forthpouring from the Divination classroom that afternoon. Roses of several varieties bloomed and shed their multi-coloured petals on the floor almost lining the path to the various desks. Lilacs, and orchids were placed at the front of the room and standing behind a veritable spray of creeping white jasmine was the well meaning lunatic of a Divination Professor, Kapoor. Meerily standing by as the students entered the class.
" Good afternoon, students. Please don't move the chairs. They've been pushed together as we'll be doing team exercises today." He explained. |

Rafe just smiled and laid his chin in his hands on the desk. He yawned. "That's Robert Burns, the poem that is. My mum made me learn poetry in different languages," he said with a shrug. "Oh poetry!" He yawned once more waiting for the professor to continue with the lesson. Evelyn had spotted Josh on the other side of the room, and she was just about to wave at him when Rafe started speaking. Turning her attention back to him, she became confused for a moment on what he was talking before she realized he was speaking poetry. Keeping as silent as she could, including trying to hold her breathe, she listened to the words he spoke, mesmerized. When he finished, she couldn't do anything but just sit there. "I-i...umm..." she tried to speak. Clearing her throat, she looked down at the rose in her hands, trying to hide her embarrassed blush. "You know poetry?" Well it was a stupid question with an obvious answer that he already said, but she couldn't think of anything else to say. She loved poetry, but was rarely able to read any at home. It wasn't 'serious' enough for their family, her father and mother used to say. Even now, Evelyn thought that was a lame excuse from her parents. |

"Yeah well, if I wanted to eat I had to recite it in a foreign language," Rafe said as he tilted his head to the side. "That Shakespeare bloke was pretty interesting." Rafe looked to the professor and waited patiently for the lesson to continue. He didn't want to say much, because he was afraid of getting points taken off for chatter.

Tori chose her three flowers. She picked an Arbor vitae, the dark pink rose and the Daffodil. The flowers she chose were carefully chosen as the professor said they spoke a language that must be deciphered relaying a message. She looked at them with engaging eyes as she waited for Carter to finish his tussie mussie.

He picked up the yellow poppy first. Yellow poppies, he KNEW he had read over those...he placed the flower back down again. "Ok, erm, yellow poppies mean--oh! They mean wealth, and success. Does that mean you want to be really successful in life? And wealthy? Well, I could see you getting signed by a Quidditch team, no doubt about that," he said with a grin. "Maybe the Harpies? Sooo maybe you picked that because that's what you're longing to be once you graduate?" he suggested.
He picked up the lavender next. "Ok, I know this one--lavender is devotion, right? I guess that could apply to you with Quidditch AGAIN," he said with a small smile. Lately that was the only thing on his mind. Quidditch, Reese, and astronomy. In that order. "You're very devoted to your team, especially after your win last term, and you want to do everything you can to help them achieve success yet again." No need to add in the fact that Jack was going to do everything he could to try and stop that. Tee hee. It was all in good fun, though!
Jack looked down at the daisy and frowned. Ermmmmmm...he didn't know that one. He blinked at it for a good five minutes before shrugging. "I dunno what daisies mean. Did you pick it cause it's yellow like the other one?" he asked in confusion. There were two daisies on the list, which confused him--two different meanings. GAHHH!
Jack turned his attention to that tussle thingy and tried to figure out which flowers to pick for himself now that he had finished Kaika's flower reading. It was weird, trying to find flowers that corresponded with certain meanings. He looked at the meanings in his book before finally walking back to her and laying three flowers in front of her; A daffodil, a white poppy, and a hollyhock flower.
"Ok, go for it," he said with a grin. Aha. Kaika watched as Jack made his way into flowerland, and took a parchment to write...er, whatever Professor Kapoor told them to...which was?
Oh, of course, if Jack got any flower right.
The yellow poppy. Success, yes but no. Wealth? "That's another meaning of the flower, but wealth is not why I chose it...success on the other hand, that's a yes" but not precisely in that context....she'll explain later.
Quidditch? "Aww, thank you...I don't think I'll follow that career path..but it's nice to know someone thinks I can" she said, with a nod. Being a Quidditch player just like her father was a major NO...for her.
She smiled and nodded. That one he got pretty right. And, yes, she'll make whatever is in her power to lead Hufflepuff into victory...because that would be awesome, right?
Kaika frowned, "It's an oxeye daisy...it ain't yellow...maybe the yellow poppy messed with your eyes, because this one is white, well, it does have a yellow blot..." was that even important? No, "...anyway...it means Patience" she nodded, now it was time to explain the selection... "See, I chose the flowers, because when placed together they carry the meaning of a simple Quidditch formula..." she started, or at least the Hufflepuff Quidditch formula, anyway, "...patience plus devotion equals success" she smiled, "Easy" and true. Then she wrote 2 marks for the two flowers he got correct...or somewhat correct.
Now...oh, she had to do the same...er, okay.
For whatever the reason, Kaika took the daffodil first...eek! There was definitely a frown in her face, there were so many meanings for daffodils! "Er, so...I'll pass this one..." she'll try to make it out after the other two....Hollyhock's time now, "Ambition...so, there's something you want to achieve, right? And you'll go after it with everything you have" let's hope he's not talking Quidditch.
Another poppy, only this one was white, "Okay...I'm not too sure...but white is Peace...though, I don't think that's what you meant...the flower also means Consolation or Dreams...I'm gonna go with Dreams? Because, we all have dreams to be fulfilled, no?" undecided, as always. It was a good thing she wasn't like that in the Pitch. "You are a Gryffindor" she stated, much-too-sure of herself, even if it was pretty obvious that he was a Gryffie, however, she was staring most intently at the daffodil, "Of all the meanings this flower has, I choose either Chivalry or Uncertainty" a nod came to the brunette's head, "Because...you may have doubts about the outcome of any situation...or you'll face it like a true Gryffindor" chivalrous, yes? "Is it Chivalry? Because a Captain cannot be uncertain about anything" yeah, right, look who's talking.

Standing up she started around the room to collect her flowers, with her book propped open on her arm.
When she came across Professor Kapoor she tapped him lightly on the shoulder and asked, “Could you please pronounce the name of the flower arrangement again, sir. I don’t think I got it quite right. And also are all of the flowers listed here in the classroom to choose from?” Kapoor felt a small rhythmic touching on his shoulder and looked to find Zoe there. With a question. " Of course, it's pronounced tŭs'ē mŭs'e. It almost sounds a bit like a character from The Little Red Hen story, doesn't it? And, yes, although some types of flowers may be more abundant than others, I did my best to make sure that the ones on the list were present for use in today's lesson." Quote:

Right, so ... Lotus .... can symbolise Purity, chastity, and eloquence... Iris didn't have a clue what half of those words meant. Belles of Ireland can symbolise ... Luck ... like a shamrock? ... hehe... Iris made note of this too.
And ... Almonds can symbolise ... Promises ...
Iris wrote all of this down on a piece of paper:
The Flowers she chose are: Lotus, Belles of Ireland and Almond. - Lotus symbolise Purity, chastity, and eloquence
- Belles of Ireland symbolise Luck and
- Almonds represent Promises
.
Hmmm ... She looked at the girl ... She'd chosen those things intentionally, right? ... Annnd ... I have to try to interpret this ... fussy wuzzy thing ... to guess what meaning you've made from these? ... Iris said, thinking about what the Professor had said before ...Riiight ... Well ... what could it mean? ... unless she was promised luck and purity from a genie or something ... Nahh ... thats stoopid ... hehe ... " Correct." He said, leaving the girls to try their hand at interpreting the little collection of flowers confident that they would do just fine.
" Alright. Now, have you all got your tussie mussies made and your interpretations recorded on parchment? For those of you who have completed it, feel free to turn it in. Place them on my desk please and don't worry if you haven't finished yet or didn't get a partner, you can still turn it in." He gave the official 'Last Call' to the class as he grabbed an empty table and began putting down more flowers, but different, more exotic varieties from the east.

They weren’t the most helpful of people in the world, but then again that might just have been the ones she’d met. They can’t all be like that...right?
She stood up from her seat after the professor had finished speaking “So...aren’t any of your friends in this class that you ended up paired with me?” She asked as she picked up there tussie mussie’s and interpretations, and took them over to the professor as he instructed, before moving back to their table and sitting down.

Michelle looked around the room frantically. So long, some groups had already finished their job. She was the only one without a partner. Great, now who was left? No one. A big NO ONE! How was she to work by herself? `Umm, does anyone still need a partner? I am without one, if you want a partner? Anyone?' she spoke desperately. She had to pair up with someone quickly.

Matheu worked hard, even though he didn't have a partner to work with. He managed to get his tussie mussie completed by the time they had to turn them in. He picked 3 flowers that intersted him the most:
1) Peach Blossom - long-life
2) Thyme - Thriftiness
3) Blue Violet - Faithfulness
He walked up to the professor's desk and laid his parchment (with his name, year, and house) on the pile and went back to his table.

Some had their Divination textbooks open. "I think it's best if you look for yours first," Kiri continued, turning to look at Lyra again. She smiled. "I'll wait." Lyra sat down on her chair too after seeing Kiri pulling up a chair and stared with open mouth at her small bouquet. When had she done that? did they had to make one earlier in the lesson? 'Lyra next time pay attention'. She looked around and saw the flowers laying on a table. She stood up from her chair saying a "Be right back" and walked away, carefully avoiding to look at Evan.
Looking at the flowers in front of her, Lyra picked the once that she felt drawn too. How odd that may sound. After finishing her bouquet she walked back to Kiri again and sat down, smiling. Lyra placed her bouquet on the table and pointed at the flowers. "Right, so i picked the once that i liked..eh."
She showed the bouquet which contained a Yellow Rose - Rue - Daffodil - hollyhock - and she had found a rose that had no thorns on it which she had picked up too. "It's not the worlds greatest bouquet but i think it will do" she smiled.

She hastily withdrew her finger. A tiny drop of blood was visible. Grumbling to herself - she'd pricked her finger on the rose in her arrangement, of course - Kiri sucked on the finger until the other girl returned.
"Alright, then," she said with a glance at the flowers. "I'll go first?" Kiri picked up her heavy Divination textbook. "I, er, I'm not very good at Divination and stuff like that, though," she told Lyra conversationally, flipping through the pages to find the chapter on Floriomancy. "To me stars are just big balls of burning plasma. Oh, here we are." She alternated between looking at the flowers in Lyra's bouquet and the list of possible meanings in the textbook.
After just a few seconds, Kiri almost wanted to throw the book down. Arithmancy still sort of made sense to her, but she was lost in Divination. She tried, anyway.
"Well, let's see..." she murmured. "Yellow rose means friendship, but it can also mean, er, jealousy?" She peeked at the young girl a little embarrassedly. "Rue means regret, hollyhock means ambition, and the daffodil stands for, er, uncertainty, respect or... unrequited love? How come it can mean so many different things at once?" she asked frustratedly.
"Say, you're not, um... interested in someone? Who's a friend? And it'd be your ambition to, er... make him your boyfriend?" Kiri blushed slightly as she randomly added the different flowers together.

Lyra snickered slightly when Kiri said she wasn't good at the subject. "That makes two, i mean, how can flowers tell something about us?" Lyra answered back and grinned a little. She watched how Kiri grabbed her Divination book and started to flip through the pages.
Finally after some muttering and Lyra noticed that Kiri had wanted to slam the book shut, the girl finally found the chapter. Lyra listened to what she was saying and with each word her mouth dropped open more. She stared at Kiri in disbelieve and grabbed her own Divination book. Lyra flipped through its pages and found the flowers quickly and read through them. She looked up at Kiri again with huge eyes. "How does this book..i mean how do these flowers say anything...never mind" she muttered and looked at Evan sitting on the other side of the class.
She sighed heavily and nodded at Kiri's prediction. Deciding to tell Kiri what had happened so far, the second year Slytherin looked down at her hands which where suddenly very interesting. "Uhm, well yes" she began and looked up. "Y-you see that guy over there" she nodded slightly towards Evan , afraid that if she pointed at him he would see it. "Well, he's my friend...i think... eh, we met in Diagon Alley before school started , he knocked me on the ground is more like it" she giggled , remembering the scene. "we shopped together and bought a few icecreams. I really liked him and i had found some time ago that he liked me too but" there was a awkward pause. It was so weird talking about this "He also likes another girl named Fallon and ..well i have jealousy problems according to him" she sighed heavily and pouted her lip "I..i uhm, i attacked another Slytherin girl when i saw Evan together with her..i didn't know they were just friends because she had her head on his shoulder..It wasn't Fallon , it was another girl" she said carefully not saying Shana's name. What if Kiri knew Shana or worse what if she was a friend of her? "yes i do regret what i've done and i've said a apology to the girl but she wouldn't listen.."
Better not tell her that she had also slapped Evan a few times now, which, in Lyra's mind where is own fault. The slap on the train with the flyer was because he had walked away during her talking and the other slap was because he had used a Not Ministry approved spell on her in a corridor. And she had beaten him in a duel in the Dueling Arena.
Alright, so now that Lyra had opened up her (according to Shana) cold-heart to someone she had only met twice and she had to admit it felt good , she looked at Kiri and pointed at her bouquet. "Eh, shall i tell something about your flowers?" cue giggle, that sounded so stupid.

"It certainly makes for a pleasant smelling lesson," she said smiling up.

'What was this question now?' Josh thought a little bit taken aback. The wall she built before her was sure hard to break through 'But not enough for me to break through, if i wanted to do so.' He smiled to himself. He did not know what the source for his confidence was but he really liked it. Except that hard wall of hers, Abigail seemed to be a nice person after all. Speaking with her did not feel fake like it felt when he did with that Evan boy.
He was about to reply her question opening his mouth when he spotted Rose waving at him. It was good to know that she realised him there though he knew it was nearly impossible for others not to realise him. She was holding a scarlet rose which made him grin. For sure she was good at this tussie mussie fussie dussie thing as well. And Rafe... he glanced at him for a second right before looking back at Rose as he waved back at her. ''Hey!'' he called out, picked up one of his flowers (Daffodil) showing her and turned back to Abigail. ''Hold on a moment'' he completed taking notes on his tussie mussie interpreting and quickly handed it to the professor, getting back. ''C'moon!'' he told Abigail and leaned on the desk ''Do you really think i chose you because there were no other choices? That's mean, so i hope you do not'' |

And he didn't want all pinks in his bouquet. Meh. He pushed the bouquet over to Nataly and retrieved the one she made for him. "There."
Now to interpret. Samson screwed his face up as he tried not to inhale the intoxicating smells of all the flowers around the room being put together and passed around so that their scents wafted and almost made him dizzy. Ugh. Well, this was quaint. Cherry Blossom had three darned meanings. At least the Epigaea Repens and the Tulip Tree were easy to figure out.
"So. Cherry Blossom could mean either a good education, transience in life, or feminine beauty," he ticked them off one by one. "Epiagaea Repens means welcome, and Tulip Trees mean fame." He looked at Nataly. Well, what did he know about the girl, really? Oh Merlin, he wanted to take his bunch back. His was really easy! But this one...
"I'm thinkinggg. You're already pretty satisfied with having a good education - I mean, this is Hogwarts after all - and you've got a good life, and you think you're pretty." Samson paused. "Er... yeah, you are pretty," he added, being nice. "And you welcome all of these things. As well as... you welcome fame, too? You're famous for... something, and you're all for that." He grinned tentatively at her, hoping he could at least get a few points off the activity. Nataly listened to Samson's guess. Pretty? She didn't think about that. He made her message to sound very complicated. Maybe it was difficult and she didn't notice? Or maybe it was because the cherry blossom had three meanings?
" My meaning was much simpler, though your guess is partly true-Hogwarts gives a good education, and I'm famous because my family are rich pureblood snobs." at this she frowned, remembering how her parents treated her, like a golden doll without her own will. Of course, she didn't mention about the 'pretty' part-what girl would have the brains to admit to someone she's pretty? But she still mentioned to herself it was a true guess, smirking. " I wanted to say that with the good education Hogwarts gives, you can welcome fame. I give you a point." she smiled at him, and written on her parchment: Quote:

" Pink Carnation means a woman's love, dark pink rose means gratitude and everlasting friendship." That was a confusing meaning. Nataly started thinking fast.
" Er.. You have a female friend that loves you, she's your best friend and you're grateful for that?" Nataly asked. She hoped she would get at least one point, but probably she guessed it all wrong. She felt it was total nonsense.

Aww, Tori, are you thanking me for being your friend and talking with you about, well, you know." he said with a happy smile.

What am I 11...Oh yea.’ She always forgot that giggling was something that 11 year old girls usually did.
Looking over at the girl she realised she was quite pretty. “She’s pretty” she said quietly to Josh. “What makes you think your lo..crush is unrequited?” It couldn’t’ be love after all, he was only 11.
She shook her head at his own question “I didn’t mean it like that. I only wanted to know if any of your friend’s were in the class.” She tipped her head in the girls direction “Obviously they are. But let’s be honest you wouldn’t be sitting here if I hadn’t have announced too the whole class that I needed a partner.” |

Sara looked around the room for a partner. She wondered if she should just sit back down and do her own tussie mussie. Figuring she'd just fly by the seat of her pants... she went to find three flowers for her tussie mussie...
Sara came back to her seat with a white lily, purple lilacs and apple blossoms... all of her favourites... now, for a partner...
Still seeing no one, Sara started to look up her flowers' meaning herself. White lily... purity, Purple lilacs... first emotions of love, and pink apple blossoms... preference!
"Merlin's Beard!" Sara thought to herself "this was not looking good!" Sara blushed, as she continued writing...
Sara looked up when the Professor called for their work to be handed in... Quickly she wrote her name, house and year on the piece of parchment, and then, she walked her work up to the profs desk and placed it on the growing pile.
Sara sat back down.

He stared at the daffodil wondering if it was too obvious for the whole class or just for Abigail. He nodded as she mentioned that Rose was pretty. ''Yeah, i do agree'' he said since resisting or ignoring the truth was not something a person like him would do. ''Well... i said i was not sure about it but just look at her...'' he did a little indicate with his nose towards her ''...she's from one of that all pure and proud Slytherin families. Don't get the impression that i'm scared of them but you know she might not want to get in trouble with her parents just for a plain Gryffindor with a muggle dad and a blood traitor mom'' he replied '' I just dont want her to get...stressed and unhappy because of me'' he sighed than smiled at Abigail ''You dont have to keep it as secret and, yes, i might not be sitting here if you had not announced that you needed a partner since i have not learned how to read minds yet'' |
