"Actually Kaytone, they are a lot like Zombies. Both are controlled by those who awaken them. Two points for your answer though."

Lawson smile at the young boy. "They are dead bodies, that's probably why they look like them. Two points for Gryffindor."

"Correct Tavelon another two points for Hufflepuff." Lawson, looked at the young boy and raised an eyebrow, they had pretty much just covered that topic. "A Dark Creature is not an animal, they don't have the same life cycle and so they don't have the same sense as an animal. They exist purely to harm and damage that is what they are made for."


"And two points for all those who gave a correct answer. Now who can tell me the branch of magic used to awaken a dead body?"

Cela raised her hand. "Necromancy, sir? And ew."

Copernicus raised his hand. "I believe it is known as Necromancy, sir. And serious Dark Magic to boot."

"Necromancy," said Ella simply.

Her head turned to whoever was answering and then proceeded to write the answer down on her notebook. She LOVED this class. It was her favorite yet. Ooooh, maybe she could work with DADA someday... But what about Quidditch-

Oh yes, she remembered now!
Miranda raised her hand again, she just had to add one more thing, "Ecxuse me Professor, wanted to add that the Ministry classification of the Inferi are 5 X:s...That's the highest rating there is..." No need to say that it's superduper dangerous. "That's because they are unruly and impossible to control, unless you actualy have the power to..."

And to answer his new question, "It's Necromancy, sir," she paused with her hand in the air, "though I think that was intentionally used to bring the dead back, but like the way those people were before... But since it doesn't work, you end up with Inferi." Eh, it ididn't hurt to add that last bit.

Think! What had she read on that book? I know it started out with N... Neo.. Necro..."Necromancy! That is it!" she exclaimed, quickly refrained her excitment. "Is that right, Professor Lawson?"

"My kind of magic," Jake muttered under his breath, before wordlessly snapping one of his quills in half as he stared nown murderously at the desk. He could do with an inferius thinger... keep Shackleton away.

Kay again put her hand up. "Professor, I believe that it called Necromancy."

Evelyn stared at Destiny for a split second longer before turning back to the professor when he asked a question. "Necromancy i believe...Oh." Too many students before her answered. Writing a few things down, she stared at her quill, suddenly extremely fascinated with it. 'Where did this come from?' she thought. 'Don't know any birds that have black and gold feathers...'

"I believe it is called necromancy, it is a form of divination which is used to conjure the spirits of the dead " Marie said as she raised her hand.

Ooh! Ooh! She knew this! Livvy raised her hand and answered, "Necromancy sir. I remember it was a lesson topic in Divination class, last term." Well, wouldn't Professor Kapoor be proud of her? Actually, there wasn't really anything to be proud of... but... whatevaaaaa.

"Umm...couldn't the resurrection stone, one of the Deathly Hallows be used to wake the dead? I don't know if that's exactly a branch," Rafe said with a raised hand. "I thought Necromancy was used more to summon spirits." Rafe was very confused. This was definitely part of magic he wasn't too familiar with. "I thought it was considered...black magic?"

Matheu had his DADA text out and another book, Forms of Dark Arts and their Defenses. His quill was scribbling notes from both books and he was writing down charts, symbols, and other things. He then heard the professor ask a question on the topic he was writing on!
"Necromancy, sir," Matheu said. Then he read a little more about the subject.

"Thank you for the elaboration Miranda. So two points for Hufflepuff." Lawson nodded at her answer regarding Necromancy. "Necromancer's are born not made, so it is extremely hard to use that branch of magic. I have known of a couple of very powerful necromancer's that can not only raise the dead but can get zombie's to talk and think, if only for a small period of time. Inferi are the result of a dark wizards form of necromancy so it is not entirely the same thing. Which is why Inferi are more puppet like."

"The resurrection stone does not actually animate a dead body Rafe." Lawson let out a small sound of exasperation. "That's exactly what we are talking about...Dark Creatures."

"One point to each of you that answered. "He moved towards the front of the class and glared at the students sitting in front of him. "Okay I know it's not exactly fun to be sitting here and writing stuff down all class when I know what you really want to do is get out your wands and hex each other. But there areas in this class where you will need to sit and listen. So I suggest you all suck it up and get used to it."

Marcus, would have preferred to be using his wand also but seeing how he couldn't find it then everyone else was going to have to deal as well. Taking a deep breath and then letting it out slowly, he continued.

"Some of you mentioned that the Inferi fear light. So what kind of spells could we use to ward off Inferi?"

Livvy raised her hand to answer. "Well, Lumos for one, would be a spell that could be used to repel an Inferi," she said, nodding her head. She vaguely remembered having this EXACT discussion before, the previous term. Or was she having Déjà vu?

Tibi raised his hand. "Well, there's lumos but I dont' know that it would do much against them." Tibi shrugged and went back to his notes. He really needed to catch up on his reading.

Evelyn hid her laugh behind her hand, pretending to cough slightly instead. Laying her quill down, she thought for a moment on what spells produce light. "Incendio, professor, which produces fire." she said. 'One of my favorites.' "And, of course, fire is a source of light."

Hearing the other student's suggestions of 'lumos', she thought of another. "Isn't there a spell...well it is the lumos spell...but much more powerful?"

The professor was wrong about that. Destiny much perfered to sit and take notes on dark creatures than use her wand on dark creatures. 'Incendio would be a good one to start a fire. Would Lumos be a strong enough light to use on them? Maybe one, but not a whole bunch of Inferi.'
Destiny needed to know how to defend herself from them, just in case she ever ran into one.

Marie raised her hand, "Professor there is the Incendio spell, I think that is the one that produces flames which would definately produce heat and light."

Plymouth raised his hand, "ACCIO MATCHES!" he answered, with his typical enthusiasm. "That's what I'd do. That way, if I LOSE my wand in some sort of epic Inferi battle - I at least still have matches. Then follow up with some INCENDIO! " Plymouth was using his quill (since he wasn't writing, the quill was at least getting used for something) as a makeshift wand. INCENDIO INFERI.

Lorcan raised his hand again, higher this time as the Professor didn't seem to have heard him last time. "Sir, you could use Incendio to start a fire and force them away from you with it." He frowned, again wondering if he was right.

"Oooooh..." Miranda raised her eyebrows as she nodded to the Professors explanation. So that is how it is... Quickly, she jotted it down not wanting to forget what had been said.

So what spells could be used?
Lumos had already been said... How about...
"Sir," she said raising her hand "Could conjuring Bluebell flames work on Inferi?"

Jack raised his hand and replied, 'I think flagrate might slow them down a bit.'

"We could use Incendio!" Rafe said as he raised his hand. "Or perhaps Lacarnum Inflamare!" Rafe really enjoyed any spell with fire. "Ooooh, and I bet Fiendfyre would do the job too," Rafe said as he pounded his fist in his palm. Rafe found this lesson rather interesting. So, they weren't using spells, but he felt like he was learning a lot.

Tori sat in the classroom and took notes. This lesson was rather interesting as she really getting into something she was waiting for, dark creatures.
