After finishing up his class with the younger kids, Professor Lawson waited patiently for the last student to leave before he closed the door and began setting up for the next class.
He set upon his desk a large cage filled with...well you'll find out soon enough. He peeked under the covers and checked to make sure that none had escaped and also that the antidote was safely in his desk drawer. Satisfied he moved off the left side of the room and conjured up a couple of platforms complete with harnesses.
Moving over to the right, where he arranged the suits of armor into a nice straight line. And beside the suits of armor, he took the cover of the table that was holding the huge cubes of butter. Yep butter!!
And last but certainly not least, he set up a number of boxes along the back wall and well away from the desks. Another surprise for the students. Satisfied that everything was in order, Marcus made his way back to his desk and sat down in his chair (for once) and propped his feet onto the desk.
"Class is now in session" he called out. Haha...he'd always wanted to say that. ooc: I thought I'd open the class now, so that you can all post your meet and greet. I'll be back in oh about 9 hours to continue. I don't mind a leeetle bit of chatter but please DO NOT go overboard. |

Fred let down his sheildand smiled as the professor put those cazy doxy's away. He then noticed that the professor put a spell on the board and asked for the meeaning. He knew this answer so he raised his hand and said, "It means Diging through or hollowing out a target."

She had a small smile on her face at this just as she caught Chris looking over at her. She blinked once, her eyes turning to a bright blue as they shut briefly before she returned his smile and then turned back to the front of the class. She raised her hand. It gouges out whatever it's directed at, I think, she said, trying to remember.

After his failed attempt at the impediment jinx, James raised his hand at the professor's question. However, as he saw that two other students had already answered him, he lowered his hand and twiddled his wand in his hands. He'd heard the incantation Defodio before but he never attempted it. He gave a deep sigh and looked up expectantly at the professor.

"One point for those of you who answered. Yes 'Defodio' is the gouging spell and if hit with it, I can tell you from experience it doesn't tickle." Marcus, unconsciously rubbed his left hip where he had been hit with the spell many years ago.
"Now there is no wand movement for this spell, you merely point at the object and say the incantation." He paused for a moment and a smile spread across his face as he moved over to where the blocks of butter were. "Now it's very easy to just gouge a hole through something but it is extremely difficult and requires a huge amount of concentration to actually do something like this..."
He raised his wand at a block of butter and cast the 'Defodio' spell and with careful precision and concentration, Marcus worked on the butter for next fifteen minutes until he was somewhat satisfied with the finished product.
Turning back to the students he grinned, "Now it's your turn. I certainly don't expect anyone to produce any sort of sculpture, I merely want to see how well you can keep your focus and concentration on gouging pieces of the butter without destroying it completely. So hop to it."

| curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog Hmmmm, sculpting butter? THAT sounded somewhat interesting. Grabbing his wand, he stared at the professor's sculpture with a bit of longing (MAN it would be sooo cool if he did that) before looking at his own butter and getting to work.
"Defodio!" he exclaimed, pointing his wand exactly where he wanted to start carving. Unfortunately, he must have said it with a bit too much enthusiasm or something, cause all he did was blast a ginormous whole in the dang thing. DARNIT! Sighing he muttered it again "Defodio!" and tried not to concentrate TOO much, or to shout out the incantation. Ahh, much more success that time! He watched as he successfully started shaping the butter into an actual SHAPE, and when he was done, he had a giant ball of butter with a big hole in it.
"Hey, I made it into a Quaffle!" he said with a grin. Ahh yes. Quidditch was ALWAYS on his mind, even in butter sculpting.

"Two spells in one day," he muttered dryly to himself eyeing the block of butter standing perfectly on his desk. His Impediment Jinx wasn't so bad, but gouging things clearly wasn't his best of work. With a circular motion of his wand he whispered "Defodio". A decent sized whole appeared at the top of the butter and with a non-verbal attempt to levitate his blob to flip it, it merely fell over splattering one side on his desk.
"Eww," he groaned taking a step away from his craft and looking at it from the other side. "WHAT THE," he started with his jaw dropped looking through a tunnel from one end towards another. Apparently, Cordova created a massive tunnel that started from one side and out the other. "Dreadful," he told himself looking towards the right spotting the gouged out circular tube of butter laying limply on the ground.
"Oh well," he reassured himself and did the same spell again making a horizontal tunnel which crossed paths of the vertical one along with another flying tube of butter. "Some people call it butter, but I'll call you art," he said mockingly laughing at his final product instead of beating himself up for making a mess.
"Yep," he nodded taking a step closer, "it's a giant mess."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Rishi Kapoor First Year | Film Addict! | ♥ Suraj Sharma ♥| TIGRESS! Ewwww! Butter!! Lucy absolutely hated excess butter, and the sigh of butter sticks and...just seeing butter before it melts. To her, it was just an image of excess fat that would soon enter her body. But this time, she got to make holes in the butter! COOL! SCULPTURES! What could she make...she was exactly the best artist in the world, but she sure was good enough for her dad to say she could be a professional artist...or something. Lucy had settled on creating a block of triangular swiss cheese, like in the old cartoons.
Pointing her wand at the butter, she focused on it, and said quietly yet firmly, "Defodio." Perfect. She cut a straight line into the butter, and then tried it again, angling herself. "Defodio..." she said again and at last, she had a trianglular block of "cheese." "Sooooo cool." she said to herself. She casted the spell a few more times to add the holes that were always apparent on a normal block of swiss cheese and voila!! There it sat, perfectly sculpted. She stood back, marveling at her masterpiece, looking at other people to see what they were creating and how they were doing. |

| Help us we're a bunch of letters stuck in this box !! OH GOODY. Tino pointed his wand. "Deflohgee oh!"
Chunks of butter hit the wall and stuck. One began to ooze down the cracks in the stone. "Oh nuts," Tino coughed, "Guess I should clean that up, huh?" Before anyone could argue, he scampered eagerly to the wall and made as if he were inspecting and pondering which cleaning spell to use.
When no one was looking, he grabbed a handful of butter and crammed it into his mouth.
Well, he had missed afternoon snacks.

Adelaide looked at the piece of butter and tried to think of what she might sculpt before she cast the spell. Sculpting has always been a past time of hers but never in a medium so soft as butter. She thought about the shape of the butter and it came to her.
She held her wand out in front of her pointed at the block of butter and clearly said "Defodio" She concentrated on the corners of the block first carving away slowly until she had made a cylinder out of the block. She lowered he wand to stop the gouging spell. Raising it again with a flick she cried "Wingardum Levoisa and the butter hovered over the table she twirled her wand in a horizontal circle causing the butter to slowly turn."Defodio" pointing at the butter very carefully scoring two lines around the cylinder from about one inch from the top to about one inch from the bottom. Adelaide lowered her wand once more and studied her progress. Picking up her wand she said "Defodio" this time carving deeper on the scored lines. She continued for about 15 minuets in this manner carving, stopping and carving again until she had carved the block into a double spiral.
When she was satisfied with her work she stepped back and resumed her seat. The moment she sat her butter sculpture collapsed under its own weight. Adelaide put her head on her hands and looked as though she would cry.

| Double Agent Stamps! Abby looks with awe at Professor Lawson's handiwork. "He's an artist as well as a musician. Amazing!! Abby knows there is no way she could carve anything in the butter that would look like anything except a destroyed block of butter. She'll have to settle for boring holes through it. Abby walks up to one of the blocks of butter. She points her wand at the front part and says "deh-FO-dee-ho!" A hole starts forming in the butter. Abby concentrate on the hole continuing to repeat the spell over and over to herself. The hole turns into a tunnel. "Yes-s-s-s!" Abby can't contain her enthusiasm. Unfortunately her euphoria causes her to loose her consentration. Her tunneling suddenly stops. |

Watching as the Ravenclaw boy splattered the walls with butter, Marcus bit the inside of his lip to keep from laughing out loud. At least he has the sense to go and clean it...
or...
eat it!!
He reached over to his other desk drawer and pulled out a loaf of bread and levitated it over to Tino. "Might be a tastier option" he said giving the boy a wink before turning back to the other students to see how they were going. ooc: So just keep practicing with the butter and I'll be back in a few hours.

Well now wasn't that just plain awesome? LouAnn admired the sculpted butter for a few minutes before she realized that she should have started her own sculpting quite some time ago. Oops, distracted again. She blushed a little, then backed away from the professor's creation in search of a block of butter she could get to work on. What she'd manage to sculpt out of it, she didn't know, for LouAnn wasn't what one would call the greatest artist. Surely she could shape something from the figure, yes?
She pointed her wand towards the block and called out the incantation. "Defodio!" A flat piece of butter about six inches long and an inch wide cut itself off from the block and landed with a plop next to the larger piece it'd come from. Hmm...interesting. "Defodio!" she said, pointing her wand at the larger block the same way she'd done before. Another flat piece of the same length cut itself off and landed nearly right on top of the first flat piece. She continued in this fashion until she'd cut seven pieces of the exact same size and shape, each stacked nearly right on top of the other. She frowned at her creation, seeing that it wasn't nearly as nice as the professor's. Still, she'd cut it all apart, which at least said that she casted correctly. "I made...I made a stack of pancakes," she finally said, raising one eyebrow at the buttered breakfast.

Chris walked overf to a piece of butter and smiled. This was awesome trying out new spells on butter! He chuckled to himself as he pulled out his wand. He pointed it at a piece of butter in front of him and then said "Difodio!"
At first a small squirt of butter leaped from the butter and hit the table. But after he concentrated more and more, he butter began to be gaouged out and hollowed, after about 5 minutes Chris had hallowed out his piece of butter the best he could. He was proud of himself, even though it was no Butter Tower like Lawson's.

Cela decided to make her butter look like swiss cheese and she pointed her wand at it, concentrating intently. "Defodio!"
She was pleased that it didn't make too much mess, but then she had already learned the spell and practiced it in the dueling arena too.
After a good five minutes of careful concentration she had butter that looked cheese-like and she tilted her head down to look at Professor Lawson through some of the holes.

Daniel nodded and looked at his fellow students. HE had read about this spell but he never practiced it. Or maybe once or twice on the garden hedges he had at home.
He arranged his butter to the upright position and started pointing his wand and uttering, Defodio at about five minutes passed, he raised his hand and said. "Professor, can I make the Eiffel tower instead?" he said with a giggle. "My straight walls are crookedly slanting." he added.

OOOOH! Butter sculpting? HOW COOL OR WHAT! And messy....Ew. She eyed the people around her, all sculpting there butter cubes and splattering it all over the place. She was probably going to slip on some of it and die sooner or later. Maybe she would stay in one spot the whole time. Yeah....that would be safer. Of coarse, the place she was at was being attacked by all the squirting butter. Ack!
Dodge and weave! Just dodge and weave! Finding a sumwhat safer area, she started to work. Well, actually she more eyed her butter cube. What was she suppose to make out of that? Hmm....maybe a ice cube. Yeah...that worked. But, that was to easy. She would make a book! Complete with a title and pages! "Defodio!"she cried out, pointing her wand steadly at the cube, concentrating hard to bring out a book.
After about a few minutes, she had a.....well, if you titled her head one way it looked like a book. It didn't look to bad. Atleast it had the title of Sculpting with Butter. Yeah....it was nice.

Kel now knew that his decision to sit on the side of the room was a good one. Sure, there were still splatters of butter coming his way, but at least he was out of the real mess. He had settled back to watch the other students in the class mess up their butter, getting a kick out of the thing Jenn was making with hers. A book. How very...Jennish of her.
With a sigh, he turned to his own block of butter, and pointed his wand at it threateningly. It was then that he realized that he had no clue whatsoever what to make of the block. After shrugging to himself, though, he took a deep breath, held his arm steady, and shouted "Defodio!" To his surprise, though, the spell went haywire (or at least that was what Kel chose to blame it on) and instead of taking off just the top of the cube, it cut it in half, right down the middle. The boy's eyes widened in horror and embarrassment, and he quickly looked down, hoping no one saw that.
With another sigh, he set to work, cutting off random angles with "defodio," and not worrying about what the outcome of his butter might be. Thankfully, nothing more went 'haywire,' and ten minutes later - after a ton of mind changing - Kel was finished. "There!" he said to nobody, pointing at his now-circular cube - sphere? - of butter. "A pygmy puff!"

Helena was glad that she had at least known what was going on and, therefore, felt confident when they were supposed to be practicing on the butter. Defodio, she muttered, her wand carefully guiding the gouge marks, making nothing in particular, but not splattering the walls with butter like some people....

Sylvia could so something like that easy. Pffft, the Professor had made it look so easy anyway. So, she drew out her wand and pointed it at the disgusting, slimy, fattening butter. "Defidio!" She said, and planned on turning it into ... something.
Atleast she managed to gouge holes into it, and it looked liket holey cheese. Hmm, good enough. "Yeeeey!" She sang, and decided to gouge around so it would shape into something, anything. |

Grinng Tammy looked at the butter slab infront of her and sharply said "Defodio!" The concentration sat solid on her face, her tongue poked partially out of the left side of her mouth, and her eyes screwed tight into tiny little slits. OWWW. Teeth in tongue. Gettonwithit!Yaimbasil.
Nothing had happened considering she had lost her concentration. "Defodio!" Again, minus the teeth and tongue biting, Tammy set off to work, working away at the butter with her wand.
FINALLY. There sat a butter person. No details, just a person shape. Man or woman? Not yet known.

Sculpting with butter?
Ooooookay then.
Sarah stared down at the butter in front of her, trying to think of what she could carve it into, if anything at all.Creativity wasn't her strong point after all.
Deciding that a bludgers bat might be the easiest thing, she got her wand out of it's holster and started.Pointing it at the butter, Sarah visualised the shape she wanted and said the incantation "Defodio!".It was a little more forceful than she needed, and a hole suddenly appeared sending a small amount of butter splattering into her face.Grumbling to herself she wiped it off with her sleeve and smoothed the hole with her finger to cover it up.Best not to show the damage.
Eventually she got the hang of doing it without destroying great chunks, and she was carefully carving it into a rounded shape down one end. "Defodio," she muttered, now moving onto the handle and trying to get the elongatedness of it.
Standing back to admire what she'd done, her face fell slightly. It wasn't exactly what you'd call....straight.The handle was wonky and the bat part wasn't as smooth as it could be, but at least it was something. And certainly far less dangerous than tackling Doxie's. Hmmm.Oh well, I tried I guess. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Zahra Kettleburn Seventh Year | Inside Kitty | HIT ENTER | UNO Queen There were a lot of things that Plymouth couldn't do in DADA. For example, hit a flying and rabid doxy with a curse without screaming a little and then feeling massive regret. It just wasn't his class.
However, Plymouth Morgan could draw and Plymouth Morgan could definitely sit still long enough to make a sculpture. He laid his flat on his desk and set to work, using the dark wood of the desk as a second color. Hmm... now... what to sculpture.... It didn't take long to find inspiration in the room.
A few minutes later, Defodio Defodio Defodio Defodio,Plymouth sat frowning at his butter sculpture:
"I might need another bit of butter," he mumbled. It was nice to have something NONVIOLENT in DADA though! So, not an all bad day, even though Plymouth would probably be gittery from the doxy attacks the rest of the day. |

UM... Holy crud.
Livvy stood there, staring at the butter sculpture that the professor had so skillfully sculpted. Her jaw dropped and her eyes staring at it widely. AMAAZZING. The corners were so well done and it looked like an actual building. She wondered how long it took for the man to accomplish something so spectacular.
Forever?
Wishing that her drawing ability would somehow come to her advantage. But she was unsure whether or not it would do any good in sculpting. But, Livvy decided she'd just have to give it a little try. Even if she did FAIL.
She looked at the blob of butter before her with a cool look. How was she going to sculpt something out of that... that... that GLOB. Thinking to herself, she grabbed a hair tie from her right hand and pulled back her black hair into a ponytail, all the while wondering what she would sculpt the butter into without making herself look like a total failure.
Livvy then pulled out her wand and pointed it at the buttaa. Alrighty then. Time to get to business. She stared at the butter intensely, so much intensity that it would've broken through the glasses that kid sitting next to her wore. "Defodio!" Livvy said, gently but firmly. Unfortunately, somehow she had done it wrong and a hole formed right before her eyes and the butter sprayed right at her face. "BLECH!" she yelled out, wiping her face with her hands away of the butter. Great. Now she was all buttery. Maybe if there was bread for dinner, she could just wipe it on her face.
Try again? YES. Olivia Zhang didn't give up THAT easily. More determined than ever, she held up her wand once again and pointed it at the butter. The butter was going DOOOWNN. "Defodio!" she said, more firmly and loudly. She concentrated hard on her goal and what she wanted the butter to be formed into, careful not to gouge a hole once more and have butter come flying at her face again. Livvy worked for about ten minutes or so, with intense concentration, hardly noticing the people around her.
Then. Voila. A work of art. She leaned back to admire the butter swan she had carved.

"Hey, I made it into a Quaffle!" he said with a grin. Ahh yes. Quidditch was ALWAYS on his mind, even in butter sculpting. Marcus, grinned at Jack as he stopped to have a look at his creation. "And a mighty fine looking Quaffle it is too." He handed the lad a chocolate frog. "Nice work." Quote:

"Yep," he nodded taking a step closer, "it's a giant mess." Tilting his head this way and that to get a better look at the butter, Marcus chuckled and handed the boy a chocolate frog. "Some people would actually pay money for it though. Keep up the good work." Quote:

"Now if I were a mouse that would look very tasty to me. Nice work" he remarked as he handed Lucy, a chocolate frog. Quote:

Marcus, handed Lucy a chocolate frog and patted her on the shoulder. "Don't worry I managed to see what it looked like before it collapsed and it was very good." Quote:

Unfortunately her euphoria causes her to loose her consentration. Her tunneling suddenly stops. "Nice wand work there Miss Wright." What she'd manage to sculpt out of it, she didn't know, for LouAnn wasn't what one would call the greatest artist.
Stopping by LouAnn's desk, Marcus looked at her butter and chuckled softly as he gave her a chocolate frog. "Mmmm...my mouth is watering just looking at them. Very good Miss Purple." Quote:

But after he concentrated more and more, he butter began to be gaouged out and hollowed, after about 5 minutes Chris had hallowed out his piece of butter the best he could. He was proud of himself, even though it was no Butter Tower like Lawson's. "Nice job Chris." Placing the chocolate frog onto the Gryffindor's desk, he gave him a smile before he moved onto the next desk. Quote:

She was pleased that it didn't make too much mess, but then she had already learned the spell and practiced it in the dueling arena too.
After a good five minutes of careful concentration she had butter that looked cheese-like and she tilted her head down to look at Professor Lawson through some of the holes. Marcus, bent down and peered right back at Celandine through the holes in her butter. "Very neat gouging there Miss Toussaint." he straightened up and handed her a chocolate frog. Quote:

"A pygmy puff!" Stopping at the young Ravenclaw's table, Marcus tilted his head and let out a burst of laughter. "Indeed it does look like a pygmy puff, good job Kel." He dropped a chocolate frog onto the boy's desk and moved on. Quote:

Atleast she managed to gouge holes into it, and it looked liket holey cheese. Hmm, good enough. "Yeeeey!" She sang, and decided to gouge around so it would shape into something, anything. "Nice work Sylvia, have a chocolate frog for your efforts." Marcus, tossed her the chocolate before moving onto the next desk. Quote:

Nothing had happened considering she had lost her concentration. "Defodio!" Again, minus the teeth and tongue biting, Tammy set off to work, working away at the butter with her wand.
FINALLY. There sat a butter person. No details, just a person shape. Man or woman? Not yet known. "Hmm...pretty good Tamzin. I particularly liked the concentrated effort on your face." He gave her a wink as he placed a chocolate frog onto the desk. Quote:

"Seems you Ravenclaws are very artistic. Excellent work Olivia, that is a really pretty swan." Marcus, gave her an impressed look as he handed over the chocolate frog.
Making his way back to the front of the room, Marcus looked at the students. "Okay you have all done an excellent job on your butter. Now would you like some more time to keep practicing or would you like to move on to the next part of the lesson?"

Chris grabbed the chocolate frog that Professor Lawson gave him with a smile, and then placed it in his pocket to eat later.
When the Professor asked if they were ready to move on, he didn't answer him even though he was ready. He didn't want to speak for the others.
