After finishing up his class with the younger kids, Professor Lawson waited patiently for the last student to leave before he closed the door and began setting up for the next class.

He set upon his desk a large cage filled with...well you'll find out soon enough. He peeked under the covers and checked to make sure that none had escaped and also that the antidote was safely in his desk drawer. Satisfied he moved off the left side of the room and conjured up a couple of platforms complete with harnesses.

Moving over to the right, where he arranged the suits of armor into a nice straight line. And beside the suits of armor, he took the cover of the table that was holding the huge cubes of butter. Yep butter!!

And last but certainly not least, he set up a number of boxes along the back wall and well away from the desks. Another surprise for the students. Satisfied that everything was in order, Marcus made his way back to his desk and sat down in his chair (for once) and propped his feet onto the desk.

"Class is now in session" he called out. Haha...he'd always wanted to say that.

ooc: I thought I'd open the class now, so that you can all post your meet and greet. I'll be back in oh about 9 hours to continue. I don't mind a leeetle bit of chatter but please DO NOT go overboard.

"So... What will be learning today, professor Lawson?" she was cruious to see how that class would turn out. After all, Lawson was known by his creativity.

Lawson, swung his feet off the table and stood up from the chair. "Okay so we have a number of spells to go over today. Most of you will have heard of them and no doubt even used some of them." He paused as he looked out over the students. He flicked his wand at the board.

Demetria raised her hand. "It's a jinx to slow down objects or attacks coming towards you." she said.

Chris raised his hand he knew this one hehee. "It's a jinx which slows or stops an object or individual, effectively immobilising them for a short period of time."He said.

Cela raised her hand, "It's a defensive jinx which impedes the movement of your opponent. You can target it quite minutely, like just at their wand hand, or their feet, or their entire body."

Em nodded to Chris' suggestion to wait until after class to talk.

Classes had started...and Professor Lawson was commenting about new spells to be reviewed during the lesson, then questioning about the Impediment Jinx? He raised his hand.

"Err...Impediment...that might mean like stopping, immovilizing..." He started to judge himself, lame he sounded. Then he remembered reading a few things about that jinx. "Depends on the power set when casting the jinx, it can immovilize the target or completely knocking them off their feet..." Em answered, taking his hand down.

Jack raised his hand. He remembered memorizing this one last year for OWLs! "The Impediment Jinx slows down an object, and is really useful if you're being attacked and something is running at you. We used that against fire crabs when we were trying to extinguish them," he added with a grin. He remembered running away in TERROR from those things before he remembered he could use that. Silly him.

Reese raised her hand and replied, "The Impediment Jinx slows or it can even stop an object or person from moving." She lowered her hand when she was done speaking and listened as other students answered the question.

Adelaide wanted to also say to slow down an atacker but chose to sit quietly and take notes observing everyone around her instead.

The 'Impediment Jinx' is used to slow down and object or person and if the cast is strong enough you can immobolise your attacker temporarily giving you time to either get out of the way or to re-cast another spell. Because as most of you will know it is quite hard to hit a moving target." He moved back over to his desk and looked back at the students with a hint of a mischevious smile on his face.

"So before I get you to start practicing on my friends here..." he gave the cage a bit of pat and it began to shake violently..."who can tell me the wand movement for casting the 'Impediment Jinx?'"

"The Impediment Jinx stops an object completely, or at least slows it down considerably," she said, her hand raised. "Hmm...useful spell to know during battle. How convenient would it be just to stop something completely, rendering its abilities and methods of attacks completely useless!" LouAnn lowered her hand and glanced at the professor, waiting to hear what he'd say next.

Wand movements, Issy was not quite certain of. Raising her hand, her reply came out something more of a quizzical questioning tone than one of assurance.

"Ehm. It's a wand point sort of spell, isn't it?" she asked for clarification.

Jack blinked. Erm, right...wand movements...he had studied this last year, he knew it! He had! But why couldn't he remember it now?

"Do you like...make a jabbing motion towards whatever you want to slow down?" he answered, raising his hand in the air as he did so. Cela HAD pointed out that you could pinpoint what you wanted to slow down, so it made sense in his head.

LouAnn flipped through her textbook a little as she searched for information about the wand movement for the Impediment Jinx. She'd never really been taught the wand movement for it, so anything she'd say would just be her best guess. Nevertheless, she raised her hand and attempted an answer anyway. "Maybe it's a nice swish and flick, followed by a point in the direction of the object or person you're trying to stop," she suggested. She honestly had no idea, though. Like she'd said, it'd been her best guess.

*blink* The wand movement for the Impediment Jinx? Adrienne had no real idea, but then she glanced over as another Ravenclaw spoke. Raising her hand as well, she said, "As far as I'm aware, you simply point your wand at whatever you're trying to jinx, then cast the spell." Kind of like her classmate had asked about.

Clearly Kazi, wasn't as good as he thought he was. Marcus, knew for certain that the old man had covered wand movements for hexes, jinxes and curses two terms ago.

"For those of you who made an attempt at the answer, I will award you a point each for your efforts." He glanced around at the other students and smirked, oh he was so gonna have to gloat about this to the old man. "The wand movement for a jinx is a small 'x' movement of your wand. Like so." He withdrew his wand from its holster and demonstrated to the class the tight 'x' movement so that it looked like two very fast flicks. "Okay you have five minutes to practice before I let the creatures out." Marcus patted the cage again and once again it shook violently. Oops seems he was angering them slightly.

Yay creatures. "What are they Sir?" he beamed, boucing on the spot. He drew out his wand, from the inside of his robes. And made the x movement. Easy. Now to slow the creatures. Oooo he hoped they were pixies. They were quick llike snitches.

Cela who had missed the question due to her staring at the cages and making guesses as to what was inside (she was thinking doxies but couldn't for the life of herself figure out what the butter was for unless it was to slather on something to make it harder to catch or on their wands to make them harder to keep, and with her mind on that she subtly cast a gripping charm on her hand.).

She flicked her wand in the tight x shape, finding it second nature after practicing so much and learning from Kazimeriz.

Cela eyed the cage as Professor Lawson shook it and again wondered about the butter.

Erm...creatures? LouAnn stared at the rattling cage, wondering just what it was that lurked inside it. Deciding that she better get up and practice really quickly if she was expected to battle some sort of creature in five short minutes, LouAnn made a grab for her wand and stood from her seat. Alright, sooo...two very fast flicks in the shape of an X. That shouldn't be too hard to master---or so LouAnn hoped.

She raised her wand and made two quick flicks in the air, watching the movement of her wand as she did so. One time definitely wasn't enough, though. She needed to have it mastered before those creatures were released. With that thought in mind, she raised her wand and practiced the spell several more times.

So apparently they'd been wrong, but still managed to at least get points for answering. Adrienne could take that. And it was amusing her to notice that Professor Lawson seemed intriguingly entertainied by the fact they hadn't known the wand movement.

But then he was demonstrating the actual wand movement, and she forced herself to pay attention. Especially since he said they'd only get five minutes before they'd have to practice on whatever was inside the covered cage he kept patting. At least she knew it was some sort of creature. Mentally continuing to remind herself of the wand movement, she glanced over as a younger Slytherin seemed more interested in the creatures, even though he made an attempt to practice the wand movement. She simply looked at spells and casting in a more visual way. Save the actual movement for when it was absolutely necessary. It hadn't failed her yet.

Abby smiled as Professor Lawson shooked the cage. I hope he know how to handle Cornish Pixies better than Gilderoy Lockhart did. They will be a difficult target to hit with an Impediment Charm even for an experienced wizard. Abby points her wand at the cage and makes the sign of the X with it. It's kind of like a flourish movement. Crazy looking X though sort of like a X done in real writing and not printing.

Tino slid closer to Issy and leaned. "I want to eat the butter," he whispered. "Do you think we'll get to eat the butter?"

Class was always so much better with snacks.

Tino quickly pulled out his and started swishing, watching Cela out of the corner of his eye. She was doing figure-8's. . . or were they S's? Mmm, probably didn't matter. It wasn't like they were going to face Moldy Voldy anytime soon.

Helena grimaced slightly as the teacher tapped on her desk but then shot Blake a swift smile when he had turned from her. At his instructions, she smiled at not needing the parchment, but decided not to do away with it quite yet. Instead, she withdrew her wand and peered around the room at everyone else for a moment before practicing a perfect 'x' in the air once and pausing.
