Turning to see someone sit beside her, and squinting a little to make out who it was. She smiled quickly, not making ANY noise whatsoever. Because she was good LAIK that.

"Professor, that one. . It was right over there." Tammy was still quiet, but she wasn't whispering, and her hand raised pointing a finger over in an easterly direction. "It sort of went on it's back legs I think, it sort of went taller, and it had two stumps, so I think it went on it's hind legs. And then it sort-of did some dance, like it was moving not round in a circle but side to side and then front to back, and then some others were nearly doing the same, but it wasn't dead on the same. Something a little like it, but not perfectly the same. They were all doing different things, like zig-zags and stuff. It was real pretty, do you think they made like patterns in the snow?"

That was how she had seen it, but the magicalness of what she had seen, hadn't really came through what she was saying. Never mind.

Tavelon didn't see anything. Part of him wanted to call out MOO! but he decided not to. There had to be something exciting to do, though. Maybe they could play 'chubby bunny' with the marshmallows. He popped another marshmallow in his mouth, his eyelids drooping. They were almost closed when he heard a rustle in the cornstalks.

That was it. A mooncalf. Tavelon nearly gagged on his marshmallow when he saw it. It was one of the weirdest looking creatures he had seen. Sickly pale, huge eyes popping from the top of it's head and huge feet that seemed illogically attached to it's spindly legs. And silver poo. Eww.

It seemed that the least likely thing such an awkward beast could do was dance. Tavelon watched as it plodded through the corn, big tracks marking the snow. "Professor, there's one" he whispered. It jumped, springing through the cornstalks. Yet the large feet seemed to cushion the fall, as it hardly shook or made any noise when it hit the ground. Almost as if it were walking in water it jumped slowly and made complicated motions, wading through the air. Almost like muggle astronauts walking on the moon. It was really quite remarkable.

Herminny all of a sudden heard the professor whisper to the class that she had spotted the moon caldf pointing toward the corn stalks. Herminny looked toward the corn stalkes and saw the mooncalfs dancing in a kind of line dance formation. It was quite and intersting sight and she watched in awe till all of them left. Herminny then heard the professor ask, 'What did you see?'
Herminny answered, "I saw a beautiful sight of such an intresting creature as the mooncalf dancing a sort of ballet twirling and jumping beat with one another with such grace I was in awe. For having huge feet they sure were light on there feet. I could barely believe a creature like th mooncalf could but on such a beautiful show. It was amazing", Herminny said beaming.

It was so cold! Kiri's nose was more or less the only thing visible beneath the woolly hat on top and the large scarf around her neck. She'd hitched it up to her mouth, but her unprotected nose felt like a piece of plastic that had been stuck to her face. She tried not to shiver as she wrapped the blanket around herself more tightly.

And now Jake was sit-... well, lying there in a slumped sort of way... asleep! At least she hoped he was asleep. He couldn't have frozen to death, right?
Kiri glanced around. Then she took out her wand. Aiming carefully, she poked Jake's side. He wouldn't want to miss the show, right?

A moment later, though, Kiri's attention was diverted. In the darkness in front of her, the cornstalks rustled. She strained her eyes - and then the stalks parted and the first Mooncalf emerged. At first, Kiri wasn't too impressed. The bulging eyes, the rather odd legs and feet, the pale skin... The Mooncalf looked, by and large, mismatched, as if its different parts weren't supposed to share the same creature.
But when it rose up on its hind legs and started to move, it lost its clumsiness. Now it was graceful. More stalks rustled and parted to let more of the Calves through.

She watched silently, quite forgetting to shiver and sniffle in-between. When the creatures were done and had disappeared in the Maze again, Kiri cleared her throat (which sounded uncommonly loud to her) and said, "Well, er... There was one over there," she pointed into the darkness, a little foolishly, "erm, it was doing... sort of pirouettes. And it waved it arm-, I mean, front legs about as well." She was sure that, if the Mooncalf had had fingers, it would have moved them as well. "Did it do that because it was part of the dance, or just to keep its balance, Professor?"

Evelyn, who was trying to make herself as small as possible while wrapping the blanket around her shoulders, stared over to where the professor was pointing. She didn't see anything at first, but then noticed a greyish looking thing come out of the cornstalks.

'That's what a mooncalf looks like?' she thought, raising a brow at it. It was cute, in a way, but also really creepy. Their eyes freaked her out, but their feet was definitely something you wouldn't miss. They were huge! A second later, the she saw one of the mooncalfs stand on it's hind legs and start to...dance? Looked a little bit complicated.

At first, she thought it was kinda slow, typically what she thought the dancing would be like. It moved it's feet in a waltz like pattern before she spotted another one doing the same thing. A few seconds later, they started to pick up the pace and move their legs even higher as they jumped, and spun around, looking like some weird indian techno (haha...techno...) dance thing. She was too mesmerized with these two to even look at the others.

When they were done and the professor asked what they saw, she just sat with her mouth agape, staring at the cornstalks swaying slightly in the wind. For a second, she couldn't remember anything she saw when suddenly she clamped her mouth shut and everything came back into her mind. "That was weird...yet interesting." she spoke quietly. "They...the moon...thing..." Maybe she should just sit quietly and listen to the other stories...Yea. Good idea to do that. She had a hard time speaking so late anyways and really couldn't put her memories to words at the moment.

Alexandra started to point excitedly to a spot in her line of sight and said, "Professor I saw one there that was doing a Macarena type dance. It was hilarious. It was moving it's arms around and swinging its hips." A little giggle escaped her lips and then she said, "It was very graceful even though the dance was kind of funny."

Lucille LOVED the mooncalfs. Anything that could dance like that had to bee fabulous!

"I saw one do a kind of acrobatic thing," she said, staring at the spot. "It jumped, and then crossed paths with another. Its arms were sort of flailing about, but in a good way. Not a crazy way. And it was on its tippytoes for a bit. Not tap danceing exactly, but, kind of, shuffleing, with its arms up." She furrowed her brow, unable to explain any further.

"I liked it," she finished lamely.

"Eh?" Jake mumbled, squinting an eye open and looking around, glancing at whoever had poked him. It was Kiri. "Whuuuuut...?" he mumbled.

HE had been watching them... not dreaming of them. He'd seen them. He SEEN the-

"Pink cows doing ballet."

That wasn't a dream... was it?

Fred yawned as the professor motioned for them to look toward the corn stalkes. He did and he saw the mooncalfs the professor was talking about doing some sort of weird dance. Jumping around in a sor of formation, he was'nt quite sure, he was too sleepy to really concentrate. When the moonclf had finished their dance Fred heard the professor aske, 'what did you see'. Fred responded saying, "I saw a creature ith big feet and bulging eyes jumping around in some sort of formation. I found it an intresting sight but nothing more. It was quite a cool experience getting to see a mooncalf though".

Destiny sat there shivering as she waited for the mooncalf to come out. She was just about to ask what was taking so long when she saw something..

Forgetting about the cold, Destiny sat and watch the mooncalf dance. She looked the mooncalf up and down, noticing that this one seemed a little smaller than the rest. 'Maybe it's a baby?'

When all the mooncalves were out of sight, Destiny had to blink a couple of times. 'They were so.. CUTE! The one that was right over there' she pointed to where the one she was staring at was, 'he, or she, was dancing on one leg! And then it did this sort of belly shake..' what Destiny really wanted to do was stand up and show them what it did, but decided against it.

Kay was happy to see the mooncalves. It was great. "Professor, I saw two of them dancing around each other. I, also saw the big mooncalf jump into the air. It was amazing." Kay had never seen anything like it. "Professor this was great, Thank you." She really like this class it was fun and well amazing.

Celandine had followed along cheerfully and lay her blankets down, snugging into them and watched the Maize Maze quietly.

Enthralled, Celandine compared the big flat feet with the muggle rumour thingies of people using flat boards and decided that it was kind of a good guess (or obliviation...?) on their part.

Once it was done, Celandine raised her hand.


"Professor? There was one on the edge with a gammy leg, it sorta just shuffle hopped a bit and I think the pattern might be messed up on that side because of it. It looked a bit sad, I don't know if it was because it was hurt or just because it didn't have any friends to dance with. But it still tried really hard. And there was two over there that just kept on moving reaaally fast and I realised they were just going in a bigger and bigger outward spiral shape. They wiggle a bit don't they? It looks weird because their skin is sooo smoooth and grey it totally reflects the moonlight and they look like if you touched them your hand would be sucked into their skin and it would feel all wet and gluggy like damp clay.

Their feet are wide to displace their weight right? Doesn't that mean they can probably walk across ice without falling through? Or across a thick layer of snow without falling through?" Celandine asked, hand waving around, almost in an echo of the movements they'd just witnessed..

Marie sat there as if frozen in her place wishing she was back in her nice warm bed. She then heard the professor asking them to explain what they had just seen.
"Well professor, I noticed that the two that were over there seemed to be dancing with each other." She pointed to the area on her left as she continued her story. "Their pale skin was almost transparent in the moonlight and you could see the moon glistening in those huge eyes of theirs. They were on their hind legs moving from side to side, then back and forth. Their feet looked really funny since they were so big but I am guessing those big feet are what helped them stand like that for so long. A few times I noticed their tails swishing back and forth as they did a little spin. It was actually kind of amazing watching them do that. Who knew that animals could dance?"
Marie was so cold now all she wanted was a HUGE cup of hot chocolate to warm her up. As interesting as this class was she really hoped it would end soon so she could get back to her dorm, climb in her bed and pull her blankets over her head.

Jack watched as the mooncalfs emerged, barely even breathing as the little cow things started to dance. They were SOOO CUTEEE! Jack just wanted to run up to them and give them a BIG OLE HUG. Not that he would, of course, he knew better than that.

As the mooncalfs retreated, Jack sat up on his blanket and rubbed his neck, which was slightly sore from sitting in that position so long. How long had they been out anyways? He raised his hand as she asked for them to report what they had seen.

"Well, professor, there were three calfs over in this here area..." he said, pointing to his left and making big, swooping circles with his arm, "and it looked like it was two males trying to woo over one female. The first calf was probably younger because his dance wasn't too complicated--he just twirled in circles with a few hops tossed in here and there. The second one, on the other hand, did this little figure eight thing before moving in a zigzag motion as he jumped up and down and twirled in mid air. It was cooooooooool!" he exclaimed with a grin.

"In the end, the mre experienced dancer got the girl," he added with a little head nod. "So the other mooncalf just left...but I'm sure he'll find another girlfriend, right?" he asked. He felt kind of bad for the little dude--he was reminded of himself during social situations. Despite the fact that he was a guy and the mooncalf was...well, a cowww.

Lorcan joined Lexi on her blanket. "Hi" he whispered. He was very glad to be so well wrapped up, some of the others looked really cold now that they were away from the fire. He wondered if the mooncalf might have heard them all coming and decided to stay underground.



Lorcan raised his hand. "Professor, i saw one that looked like it was trying to do the tango, on its own. It did ok at first, but since it didn't have a partner to dip it, it fell on it's bum, over there." He pointed at the dent in a small snow drift close to where they were sitting.

Abigail was smiling haven watch the mooncalves during their routine. Excitedly she turned to the professor “Professor I saw a smaller one, which I think was quite young. It was trying to copy one of the older ones that was going round in circles and making swirling patterns, and one of the females seemed quite happy with them. I think it was the smaller ones first mating ritual because its swirls were a bit messy, it wasn’t very original either. He didn’t attract any of the female’s attention, but I suppose he’ll learn with age.” She looked back to where the mooncalves had disappeared “How often do they do this dance professor?”

"Wow..." Carter breathed watching the strange animals doing an even stranger dance. Once they left the Professor announced they'd be having a class discussion. He raised his hand. "Oh, Professor. I saw two that were doing a dance that looked like a rain dance that I've seen Native Americans do in a muggle movie." he said describing the mooncalves he saw hopping and tossing about their heads. "And I can almost make out the pattern in the snow..." he strained his eyes and saw a design that involved a lot of circles. It looked just like a crop circle!! Crazy! If he would have seen that just a year ago he would have been one of those muggles looking up to the sky wondering if aliens had visited.

Dancing moooncalves?!

Cam only got their dung the last time but never really saw this AMAAAAZIN' feat. He sat quietly and looked around--his eyes weren't as good as his nose and he honestly didn't know what mooncalves smelt like. But eventually he'd seen his own mooncalves dancing around in the moonlight. EEEEE!11 "Professah, I see mmbout 2 mates over there dancin' with each other. Oooh and one's doing the moonwalk--it's a pro moonwalker alright, so pro. So pro," he whispered quietly and grinned, yet a BIT bummed on how these mooncalves could like... dance better than HIM, "and that other one, which I think's a girl has some reaaallly complex movessss. Her feet's like outta controoool, she's moving all over the place."

WAIT. WAIT. When were they gonna get their dung? HUH?

Josh, a little bit upset to leave the tasty mashmallows behind, followed the class into the deep darkness of the grounds. It all seemed much more beautiful at night which made him think since sun always was the best for him. Why was he favouring the night now? Strange. As he walkedwith everyone half listening to the debates about the topic and half looking around. Did something move behind him? He took out the camera silently and was careful to not to be caught he took the picture of something walking on the grass, which looked like a crow, and quickly hid it in his bag as the flash of it would give him out. Stupid idea that was but atleast he took the photo when they were on the way to where they were going so that would not intterupt the class.

Then he went on with his usual indifference at the rest of the mooncalf chit-chatting. Moooncalf was booooring. He did not even pay much attention when one appeared and started to dance. 'Duh'. The girls were like 'aww how cute. duh again'

Following suit, LouAnn made her way down the pathway and to a nice little spot near the Maïze Maze. It felt nice to be outside at midnight, even if the weather was a little chilly. The grounds were a little more at peace, LouAnn thought. She tossed her blankets to the ground, straightened them, then got comfortable. It was so quiet out that LouAnn was afraid to clear her throat or shuffle around on her blankets. She sat as still as she could and just...waited.

She was nearly asleep when she, too, heard an unusual noise. On Professor Morgan's cue, LouAnn's eyes flew open, and she scanned her surroundings waiting to catch a glimpse of something cool. LouAnn moved her head to the left...then to the right, but all she was able to see was the top of someone's blonde-head craned up just ahead of her. She frowned and crawled a few spaces over...

...just in time to see..."Oh, look!!!" she thought to herself.

"Professor! Look at that little group standing all in a line," she said, pointing her finger and flailing it about in excitement. Once she was sure she had the professor's attention (and maybe a few of her classmates, but their eyes and ears were probably glued to the mooncalves, as well), she began to excitedly describe what she was seeing. "They sort of twist their bodies to the right, raise their front legs into the air, and march a few beats. Once they've done that, they twist their bodies to the left, their front legs still in the air, and march to the left!" It sort of made her want to sing, "Thriller! Thriller Night!" although she couldn't for the life of her figure out where she came up with that line.

She bit her bottom lip to keep from giggling at the cuteness of one who'd stumbled over its large flat feet. "That one's a clumsy dancer," she said, pointing out the stumbler. "Oh, and that one...*points*...is completely out of line. He's not even with the rest of the group! So together except for one..." She nearly yelled out loud when she caught the site of some little ones twirling around in a circle. "Oh, look! That's the babies! They're holding hands and dancing around in a circle. Every once in a while, they all go up then they all fall down. How cute!"

Hmmm. Copernicus was going to write down every single motion and twist and step he saw, especially since it was unlikely he'd really have this chance again. He put his quill to parchment... and got completely distracted by the dancing. They were just so beautiful.

"Professor," Copernicus spoke up, his voice still hushed with awe. "At first I thought they were just shuffling, but then you can see that the motions look so choreographed and planned. And those enlarged feet give them an amazing sense of balance. I wouldn't be surprised at all if some world dances developed from watching mooncalves. I'm sure I saw a cancan and some stepdancing."

Zoe was just starting to tremble a bit again when she heard the professor whispering excitedly. She was a little far away from her so she couldn't quite hear what she was saying, but the reason for the whispers was soon evident. They were strangely cute. Zoe wouldn't have thought that such oddly proportioned little beasts would ever be adorable. Maybe it was the cute little dancing that pushed them over the edge.

When the show was over Zoe raised her hand and after waiting for her turn told the professor what had stuck out to her the most. "I thought that medium sized one over on the left was going to trip and squish the little one that was shuffling close to it. I wonder if they are related. It looked like they had this graceful awkwardness to them. My favorite part was when the little one over on the left starting shaking it's little rump in the air at the end."

Skye watched the mooncalves in awe as they danced. It looked so complicated, and their feet didn't look like they could do that. Trying to remember what she saw, she raised her hand up. "Professor, I saw a few of them doing some very fast movements that I couldn't keep track of. They still looked graceful, though," she answered, trying to explain what she saw. That was worth watching at midnight.

Becca grabbed one of the spare blankets beside her and followed Professor Morgan and the mess of other students to the start of a maze. Oh! Would they be trying to navigate? Rebecca couldn't help but wonder. She enjoyed mazes and thought it would be fun. So, quietly, she laid her blanket down and sat cross-legged on top of it. "They're gorgeous, Professor. With that funny jig they're doing! It looks as if they've been practicing this dance just for us.", Becca couldn't help but laugh softly to herself at the odd looking creatures as they performed their dance.

"Professor?" Tibi offered his description having pulled the scarves away from his face. He'd bundled himself much like he had for flying lessons and was again a winterwear puff ball.

"The mooncalf did a lot of things. First, it slid to the left. And then to the right. And then it did a slow cha cha kind of step. And then it slid to the left. And slid to the right." Tibi paused, eyes closed, trying to picture the dance. "And then it hopped once. And then another hop. And then it crossed and uncrossed its legs. It ended its dance like it was pretending to clap while bouncing to some sort of beat." Tibi smiled. "It was really cool."

Sniffling from the cold, Tibi rewrapped the scarved around himself.
