CoMC Lesson 2 :: The Moonlit Maïze Maze Following a snow-cleared pathway, Professor Morgan led her group in silence. As the got closer, she slowed her pace to a mere tiptoe until she found an adequate spot, a safe distance from the Maze. Turning to address the students, she lifted her hand and whispered, "This is about as close as we are going to get. Lay your blankets down here and take a seat. QUIETLY," she added, holding her finger up to her lips. "Shhh." She settled herself down on her blanket, laid on her stomach and rested her chin on her hands. It wasn't the greatest vantage point but it would do. |
Rushing over to claim a spot next to Professor morgan, his blanket still wrapped all the way around him, Jake tried not to make a sound. Almost as SOON as he was down, Jake began to silently fidget and become distracted by the small flecks of snow on the ground, and he focused his attentions on watching THEM. |
After rolling the blanket she was sitting on, around her arm, Tammy followed Professor Morgan quietly, sort of tiptoeing attempting not to disturb the darkness the night was engulfing them in. Keeping towards the front of the group, she came to a stop near first. She nodded simply, unrolled the blanket and lay it flat. Taking a seat back on it, she looked around her and prayed no younger students had gotten missing or anything. That would be bad. And thens eh was hit by the cold again. Legs closer, arms tighter, MORE LAYER NEEDED! MEH. Squinting towards Professor Morgan, Tammy went to giggle, but clamped her mouth shut, at the sight of her lying on her stomach. HEHE. Were they gonna have a fire this taim? They needed light RRRAIIIGHT? |
Miranda grabbed her blanket before picking up a few marchmallows and followed the rest of the class. Finally, they were going to move around, and hopefully they'd get warmer! Nodding at the Professors words, she sat down along the line and wrapped her blanket around her again. Inside her own little pod, she began to munch on the marshmallows, her chocolate frogs on her lap. What were they going to see? |
Ooh. Incognitooo. Awesome. Tiptoeing along after Prof. Morgan, Winnie looked around nervously. She folded her blanket carefully and sat on it, crossing her legs. She squinted into the darkness and waited. |
Damon followed the professor to where she was going. Once he saw where the professor had stopped he had an eerie feeling in his chest. He wondered how these creatures would react to all the students. Damon sat down and watched closely. |
Evan followed the others and walked on his tiptoes just like the others did. He was already bad at this lesson, and he didn't want to be any worse by being yelled at. He just tightened his jaw to prevent his teeth make noise, and sat somewhere far away from the professor. He wrapped in his blanket as much as he could, hoping that it would cover his basic features that would let him be seen. He was bad at this subject and he didn't want to be the first to be chosen, as well as fearing the thing out there. Professor would surely save him, but just in case... |
'Goodbye, nice warm fire.' Destiny thought as she followed the professor. When they stopped, she laid out her blanket and wrapped it around herself again. It was still cold out. |
Staring up at the professor in disbelief, 'No fire?!!', Evelyn frowned and put her jacket BACK on before standing up and picked up the blanket while trying to shake her leg awake since it fell asleep sometime during the lesson. Gathering as much of the blanket as she could in her arms, she started to walk after the professor, tripping every now and then on rocks and branches on the ground. It didn't help that half her vision was blocked because of the blanket in her arms. Evelyn heard what the professor said, even if it was a whisper, but she didn't see her lay on the ground, or even know how far away she and everyone else was. She tiptoed though so she didn't make as much noise, but then suddenly tripped on a shoe, sending her falling to the ground. The blanket, thankfully, blocked most (or all) of the noise when she landed on her stomach and her shocked gasp was muffled from her mouth being covered by the blanket as well. All hail the blanket! Looking up in surprise, wearing a guilty expression, she scooted a little away from the professor, still trying to be as silent as possible. It was a good thing it was dark out, otherwise you would've noticed her face turning redder by the second from embarrassment. 'Stay silent, stay silent, stay silent...' |
Herminny followes the professor tip toeing and as soon as the professor told them where to stop she qietly laid down her blanket and laid down and sat down on it. She was suprised to see the professor laying down on her stomach and wondered why she was doing that but she was ure there had to be a reason she would soon see. |
The Maze Amadeus did what he was told and chose a nice comfortable spot near a tree, he then laid his blanket down and sat on it waiting for what he was about to see. |

Zoe was thankful for the blanket, but it just wasn't quite enough to keep the chill out. Settling down in a pile of cloak, blanket, and limbs she tried to be as quiet as she could. Feeling something sticky on her chin she realized that she had a little bit of marshmallow still stuck there. Sticking her tongue out she tried to clean it off and instantly regretted making her chin wet and exposing her warm tongue to the elements. |
Marie grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around herself as she followed the professor. Once they got to the place they were going she found a spot next to Kay to lay her blanket so she could sit down. Pulling her robes around her she realized she needed more to stay warm so she wrapped her blanket around her the best she could too. |
Abigail quietly followed the professor to where she assumed they’d be seeing some Mooncalf’s. It was freezing out and she was glad to be wrapped up in her winter cloak and scarf. When the professor stopped in front of the maze she followed suit and quietly lay her blanket down before curling up on top of it. Silently she followed the professors gaze and waited for the first glimpse of whatever was to come. |
Abby follows Professor Morgan to the Maize. She puts her blanket on the ground near the professor and Jake. Abby lies down and puts her head on her hands. She pulls her hat down over her ears. Abby takes her homemade telescope from Astronomy glass and places in front of her. It should make it easier to see the mooncalves from this distance. |
Daisy tossed her blanket down next to a few of the Hufflepuffs. She shifted her cloak around before flopping (as quietly as possible) onto her stomach where she stuck her feet into the air a little. Some of the snow/water from her shoes rained down on her back getting her bum a little wet but that was alright, she didn't even notice it. So...this is interesting, she thought to herself as she stuck her head into her hands. |
Fred grogilly got up and followed the professor and when she told everyone that this was as far as they were going Fred laid out his blanket and imitated the professor lying down on his stomach resting his chin on his hands. It felt nice and then his eyelids started to feel heavy and it took him even greater effort not to drift off to snooze land though at this point it almost seemed inevitable that at somepoint during this lesson he was gonna fall asleep and he felt heshould'nt be blamed for it cause the lesson was being held at midnight, a time when most people were asleep. |
Ouch. That look had been BRUTAL. He had experienced looks from woman, had gotten quite a few GRR looks from his wife...but Iliana...dear heavens that had been scary. Not really wanting her to go off on her into the Maize Maze without a wand, Constantine picked up his towel and followed her, Roma at his heel again. He set up his blanket beside her and laid down on it too, being a good boy and staying quiet. Roma took up residence between them. |
Noticing that the groundskeeper and his wicked awesome dog were on the other side of Professor Morgan, Jake, who'd rested his head on the ground in his tiredness, stretched out his arm across the front of the woman so the dog could like, make sure he wasn't evil. Unless this creature, like every other these days, decided it hated Jake. Sigh. Soooooo... tirrrrredddddd... ZZzZZzzzzZZzZZzzzZzzz... |
Alexandra tippy toed behind the Professor and the other students hoping to catch a peek of a mooncalf. She lay out her blanket and took a seat looking around for Lorcan. |
Chris tiptoed over with to the new area with Professor Morgan and the rest of the class. He quickly took a seat next to Tammy on a blanket. |
Tavelon grabbed a blanket and a couple marshmallows and followed. Quite unsure what was going on, he laid down as well. What were they doing crawling around a cornfield? Oh. Mooncalfs. Right. Tavelon popped a marshmallow in his mouth. Lying down in the warmth of a blanket at midnight... it would be hard not to fall asleep. |

She couldn't help but give him a tentative smile as she got comfy on the blanket beside him. Truth be told, she was glad he was there. 'Maybe if she was lucky, Marcus would show up too.' ... A short time later, she heard a strange noise. "Look," she whispered to her class, pointing out towards the cornstalks a few feet away. Then, with a slight rustling, the first of the mooncalves started to emerge. Silently she watched as the creatures began their funny, little dance. "Notice their feet," she whispered, barely loud enough to hear. "They're almost double the size of their bodies." She couldn't wait to see what intricate patterns they would make in the snow. After the last of the creatures retreated out of view, Iliana sat up and turned to face the students. "Wasn't that AMAZING?!" she asked, clearly still in awe by what she'd just seen. "There were so many out tonight. What did each of you see?" she asked. Now seemed like a good time to go around the group and share stories. OOC: For this part of the assignment, I would like each of you to RP reporting what you've seen. From where you are sitting, not everyone will have been able to see the same creatures so be VERY creative when describing their dance. You can begin this part of your RP with something like: "Professor, I saw one there..." Then describe the dance for the class. |
Chirs had been smiling the whole time the Mooncalves were out doing their dance. "Professor their feet were sooo huge!" He said once they were gone and Professor Morgan had spoken. What did he see? What didn't he see? This memory would stay with him for a long time. "Professor over there I saw two mooncalf walking around in a circle over and over until they looked really dizzy. Then over there," he pointed to a large print in the snow. "That really big Mooncalf jumped pretty high and landed hard in that spot sending snow all over the place. And a smaller one went over there and made a big zig-zag pattern as it moved and hopped through the left side of the field." he was grinning like a little tiny kid again. |
