Ainsley listened to the professor as she described what to expect from the class. As the woman turned their attaention to the pieces of cardboard laying on their desks, she placed her new journal down to the side of her desk and took out her quill. The girl writting Ainsley Brett in the loose script she had been taught by her parents.

Lucille grabbed a name card and rummaged in her bag for a quill. She smiled to herself when she found one, and took out some orange ink.
On the cars, she scrathed the words "Lucille Beambrook" in large letters. Her penmanship was scrathy and messy, but in a way that looked like it was supposed to be like that. The "L" and the "B" of her name were exagerated with big strokes. She went over it a coulpe times, until the ink was a thick, darker colour.

She smiled to herslf again, and propped the name card in front of her on her desk.

Matheu was extremely excited to be in Arithmancy. He understood basic and intermediate math well and was always enjoyed learning. He listened to the professor give quick information and direct instructions.
This journal idea is very interesting. It would also free up one of his many books he bought at Flourish and Blotts the other week.
Shackleton gave an instruction to take the card stock on the desk and make a name card. Matheu quickly acted by filling in his entire name:

Matheu Cohdi Rihverr

Ella glanced at the other name cards; they all looked very nice and was going to comment on some but stopped herself. She wasn't losing any more points. She knew how it felt, and decided to obsess over just earning them. Out of boredom, she even drew a little flower at the edge of her nametag, awaiting the teacher's next instruction.

Fallon picked up the notecard that was in front of her. She quickly wrote her name on it. After she wrote her name she began to doodle on it a bit. It ended up looking like this:

LouAnn nodded in understanding as the professor responded to some boy's question. Listening to Professor Shackleton-Clark talk made LouAnn realize how very important Arithmancy could be to her. She thought about that as she took her quill and ink and began creating a name card for herself. This would helpful, seeing as no one really knew her, professors included. Then again, did the professors know her? Did they get some sort of list and sheet of background information on every student that enrolled in the school? Merlin, LouAnn surely hoped not! Wouldn't that cause a few complications. Then again, if they were being instructed to create name cards, the chances that the professors knew all of them beforehand was slim to none. Once she was done, LouAnn turned her name card around so that others could see it and know what to call her.

Ooohh... cool... a profile?

It sounded rather fun to Livvy's ears. It was a way to keep track of all the things she'd done in Arithmancy and a way to organize all the different things about the numbers and their relation to her life. If THAT wasn't cool, then she, Olivia Zhang, didn't know WHAT was. But dang... journals? Seriously? Professor Shackleton was a pretty awesome professor.

As she continued to listen to the professor, her hands intertwined and lying on the desk, something struck the girl. Married?! Professor Shackleton-Clark? How did she not know this? Shows how involved she was in the professors' well-being.

Shaking her head, Livvy picked up her quill and jotted down her name on the card. Olivia "Livvy" Zhang, it read. Satisfied, she drew an eagle off to the right of her name, overlapping it with her last name and drawing to make it seem like it was under the name. Drawing a few stars, Livvy smiled and placed the card upright so the Professor could see. Already she was in a better mood.

Immediately, Jake set to work on his card. Though it looked very basic, it took him a while, and still his letters were all sorts of wrong ways and what-not. As he wrote, with his tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth, Jake tilted his head. Didn't look too bad, and at least he spelt his name right now. But if you asked him, it was the picture of the snitch that topped it off for him.

That being done, he propped the card on the desk in front of him, facing outwards, and waited for the lesson to move on.

Kyle got up out of his chair...
And went straight to the Proffesor
and said softly,"Proffesor is
there any chance I can speak to you after class"
He smiled

Fred was pretty glad they were keeping log of what they did in Arithmancy cause he had never taken it before and thought atleast if it's all in order he might have a chance on his tests, the OWLs, or thats what he heard. He then heard the teacher ask for then write their name on card stock which he abliged wiriting his name mesilly a lazilly and placing it on his desk.

Torin listened to Professor Shackleton as she explained to them that they would need to make name cards. He took the paper that was on his desk and wrote Torin Kane in big letters.

He then put it on the desk where it would be easily seen.

Giving a Quick glance over at Warren who was sitting next to her,she was so un-obvservant she hadn't said hello before the class started. She'd have to talk to him after class was over. She began to write her name on the name card.

lemondrop13 09-19-2009 05:05 PM

"Some of you are quite the artists! Very lovely. Thank you very much for doing that. Shall we move on to the true lesson?"

Professor Shackleton-Clark began her regular pace of the front of the room as she spoke about this term's topic. "This year, we will be studying Transit and Essence Cycles. I have never taught this topic here before, so I know it will be entirely new to the whole class. I suggest opening your textbooks to chapter twenty-eight. And you may want to bookmark chapter two for easy accessibility.

"What information do the Transit Cycles reveal? Oh, and be sure to only answer the specific question I am asking. I do not want you to give me tons of extra information and I like original answers better than a regurgitation of the textbook where possible."

GrapehSarah 09-19-2009 05:07 PM

Fallon opened her book to Chapter 28. She still wasn't comfortable answering question's the professors asked so she sat quietly and waited for one of her classmates to answer. She knew that a few of them probably would.

Grabbing the card, Wesley dipped her quill in black ink and very slowly managed to write out:

Wesley Reagn

Holding the parchment close to her face, the brunette analyzed her writing. The letters came out lopsided, and she had forgotten the a in Reagan. Biting her lower lip, Wesley slid in the forgotten a, whispering "Sorry." to the letter.

Wesley Reagan

Giving the paper a pat, Wesley propped it onto her desk, her chest swelling with the importance of having a name card, and pulled out her textbook, turning it to the proper chapter.

Christopher Danford 09-19-2009 05:07 PM

Chris smiled as he wrote on his piece of card paper his name. Christopher Danford He was enjoying this class already. He looked around at all the surrounding students and then back at his card and textbook. He looked at the very nice handwriting he had done and smiled once more. His mother had taught him that style, and it was very beautiful. He then opened his textbook to the assigned chapter and began to read.

Demetria raised her hand. "The Transit Cycle reveals what events are going to happen in your life."

Antarctica 09-19-2009 05:08 PM

Kiri raised her hand. "Professor, the, er... Transit... Cycles predict future events, I mean things that might happen to us, er... on..." She glanced at the book again to make sure she'd read it correctly. "On the basis of the letters in our name."

Mrs. Weasley 09-19-2009 05:08 PM

Abby opens her journal and looks it over. This is great! I'll have all my Arithmancy notes in one book. No more having to keep up with individual pieces of parchment. I love it. She takes the piece of parchment Professor Shakleton-Clark provided and writes her name down. Since this is Arithmancy, Abby figure she'd better write down her full name plus her nickname.

Jack looked at his textbook and tapped his chin. Whooooa, a lot of big words. DANG he wasn't turning into a dumb jock, was he? Frowning, he cooked up an answer in his head and raised his hand. "I believe the transit cycles reveal events that are scheduled to happen to you in your life," he answered.

That is it, right? How he ever got an A on his OWL in this class he would NEVER know.

Windsfreak 09-19-2009 05:10 PM

Matheu quickly got out his textbook and opened it to chapter 28. He skimmed the preface to of the Transit Cycle and raised his hand and spoke: "The Transit Cycle is a cycle that will predict the events that might happen in your lifetime."

Daffy.Potter 09-19-2009 05:10 PM

Raise hand? Participation, right?

Glancing around momentarily, Livvy raised her hand to answer the Professor's question. "Transit Cycles reveal certain events that will occur within the coming year of your life and what type of handle on these events you may have," she said, dropping her hand back down onto the table.

Was that right? At that moment, Livvy wished she had read the textbook more thoroughly before coming to the class.

aguamentis 09-19-2009 05:10 PM

Lucy turned to chapter twenty-eight and began reading rapidly. Ahhhh...ha!! There we go. Raising her hand, she quickly spat out the answer.

"The transit cycles predict the events that are to occur in the current year, Professor." she said, smiling.

stormanator 09-19-2009 05:11 PM

Damon went further back in the textbook the chapter 28 as the professor had indicated. He searched the many paragraphs in that chapter for what he thought what be the answer to that question.

Anna Banana 09-19-2009 05:11 PM

Alright, now this would be the point in the lesson where LouAnn would get completely and totally lost. Yup, she could just see it now. Hand after hand after hand would pop up soon, and she'd still be stuck fumbling through the textbook in search of chapter twenty-eight. Once she'd found it, though, her eyes quickly scanned the page, that look of horror still on her face. Going from being home-schooled to a regular school setting was sort of a hard transition!

When she'd read enough information to piece together an answer that wouldn't make her appear as if she'd been born from a flobberworm, LouAnn raised her hand. "The Transit Cycles tell us what to expect in the year ahead," she announced. "They tell us what's coming up, so to speak."
