Jacoby wrote out his name, looking at the book and around the room to see that he was doing it right, trying his best to follow the instructions perfectly he wrote:

JACOBY
113627

J-0-1
A-1-2
C-2-5
O-5-11
B-11-13
Y-13-20

B it was a few monthes after his birthday he was 11 and some

He looked From his chart to the textbook one more time to check if it was right, Going over the B one more time to bold it and put his quill down.

Small, single tears began falling down her cheeks as she stared nervously at her paper. Boy, this was embarrassing. She attempted to hide her face until she had felt ready to try again.

Taking in another deep breath, she looked down at her numbers. She had decided to try her hand at this once more. Okay, what could she do? She took a peek at a nearby student's results, and puzzled at how it was possible that she got these numbers. Hmm...perhaps it has to do with the placement of the letters in the alphabet? But the number range was from zero to nine and the letter "C" in her name was the only one that fit this requirement. Unless she repeated the zero through nine pattern with the rest of the alphabet? Could it be a cycle? OH, DUH. Transit Cycle!! OF COURSE!! How could she have been so careless and STUPID? Oh, boy.

Lucy excitedly picked up her quill, dipped it in ink, and scratched away on a new area of parchment, without giving a a flying cow dung about what was going on around her. While looking at her textbook, she counted..."One...two...three......hmmm...one, two...three!!" And she continued the process quite a few times, repeating her name a bajillion times and she noticed some of the students with short names like hers were doing. But as she did this, she wondered...what about the ages? Perhaps...perhaaaaaps, the number of years and...ooohhh! IDEA!! Once again, she began writing carelessly but...excitedly. Thus, the outcome was the following:

Quote:

L - 3 (0-3)
U - 3 (4-7)
C - 3 (8-10)
Y - 7 (11-17)
L - 3 (18-20)
U - 3 (21-23)
C - 3 (24-26)
Y - 7 (27-33)
Oh, boy!! This was exciting!! Lucy wiped off the semi-dry tears from her face, made sure that the area around her eyes were clear. Whew! That was refreshing...very refreshing. But still, it embarrassed to know that she cried, almost publicly in class.

Correct parchment - I made a mistake on the last one :)

Iris had thought that she had finished, but then she looked back up at the board, and at Professor Shackletons example ... The numbers were done differently to how Iris did them ... I'm a fool ... She shook her head slightly, and neatly crossed out the numbers she had written down, replacing them with the correct ones.

I R I S
9 9 9 1

0-9 - I -> 9
10-19 R -> 9
I
S

0 - 9 -> I -> 9
9 - 18 > R -> 9

She looked back up, and put her quill down next to her parchment, so that the Professor knew that she was actually finished now. Iris then flicked through her book to the meanings, to read what the R meant ...

TSnitch 09-19-2009 08:53 PM

Tori carefully did her transit cycle
T O R I
2 6 9 9

T= 0-2 (2)
O=2-8 (6)
R=8-17 (9)
I=17-26 (9)
Tori looked down puzzlingly at her work. She was only 13 yet it stopped at 17. She wondered to herself if she had done it right. She looked back at her textbook desperately hoping that she really had done it right.

Wallen_steven 09-19-2009 08:55 PM

jinx sat and listened to the Professor but he had a feeling this class wasnt gonna be his best and tryed but could get it and said ma'am can i have some help plese i dont understand

WhittyBitty 09-19-2009 09:01 PM

Torin listened to the Professor explain the lesson to him then set to work on figuring his out:

Quote:

T O R I N
2 6 9 9 5

T = 0 - 2
O = 2 - 8
R = 8 - 17
I = 17 - 26
N = 26 - 31
He looked it over hoping that he had gotten it right.

james_black 09-19-2009 09:04 PM

my name for example

j-a-m-e--s

J-initiative during this period- for one year- age 0-1
A-mental approach to practical matters-for one year- age 1-2
M-This is a time for hard work and a practical approach-four for years- age 2-6
E-You will feel inspired and helpful- for five years- age 6-11
S-Your feelings run deep and your awareness is higher than usual- for one year- age 11-12

they lead one from one another this is my physical transet!

I also think i can work my mental and spirtual transits aswell

Torchwood 09-19-2009 09:05 PM

Jack went over his notes to make sure that he had written it down correctly.

A (1) 15-16 through December
C (3) 16-19 starting January

Rosa Chispa Princessa 09-19-2009 09:05 PM

After seeing the professors example she dicided to try it herself and took out her quil and wrote:

Quote:

H E R M I N N Y
8 5 9 4 9 5 5 7

H 0-8 8
E 8-13 5
R 13-22 9
M 22-26 4
I 26-35 9
N 35-40 5
N 40-45 5
Y 45-52 7

Transit= E tansitioning to R
From these caculations Herminny figured out her current letter to be E and looked in her book and thought cool, at this time I supposedly am supposed to open to new things and new ideas of how to go about life cool. oh wait, it seems I'm transitioning to a time I have to be on my toes because I'll meet extreme highs and lows thats just great

Felixir 09-19-2009 09:06 PM

Mhmm, yes. This wasn't going well.

To look as if he was doing something for now, Jake began doodling pictures on his parchment, his most 'on subject' thing being number-carton-people arguing with each other about who went to the top of the pyramid of falling chairs. There was a moment where he thought he understood, but the second that thought occurred, it was gone.

Onto drawing snitches.

MeredithRodneyMckay 09-19-2009 09:12 PM

Oh hell.
Numbers.

Sarah skimmed back to the second chapter of the book trying to find this Pythag-- thingy they had been talked about.Taking a deep breath she read what the numbers for her name were and went about scribbling it all down.

Quote:

S A R A H
1 1 9 1 8

S = Year 0-1 (1)
A = Years 1-2 (1)
R = Years 2-11 (9)
A = Years 11-12 (1)
H = Years 12-20 (8)

Current Physical Transit = H (age 14)
Hopefully that was correct.Her brain was scrambled enough already without trying to work it all out again.Pushing the paper forward, Sarah sat and waited for the next part of the lesson.

MoviegoerKinz 09-19-2009 09:28 PM

What was going on? Rafe thought. He was so confused. Arithmancy seemed like a difficult subject. Beads of sweat out of nervousness seemed to splatter on the paper as he tried to figure it out. He only had four letters in his name, how hard could it be?

Quote:

R = 9 (Completing)
A = 1 (Beginning)
F = 6 (Nuturing) -?
E = 5 (Changing)

This is so confusing. I want to scream

R = Years 0-9 (9)
A = Years 9-10 (1)
F = Years 10-16 (6)
E = Years 16-21 (5)

Physical Transit? What the bloody hell does this mean?
Rafe had a wrinkle in his forehead that looked permanently sketched there. He didn't know what he was doing. He raised his hand.

"Professor, am I doing this write? I mean what is this transit/whatsit we're supposed to figure out?"

Rosa Chispa Princessa 09-19-2009 09:28 PM

Did'nt seem to imposible Fred thought as as he flipped through the pages of his text book and got to work:

Quote:

F R E D
6 9 5 4

F 0-6 6
R 6-15 9
E 15-20 5
D 20-24 4

Transit= R transitioning to transit E
Fred looked through his textbook and thought cool, it seemed pretty accurate he just transitioned from having to be on his toes all the time in hopes he would'nt get too badly beat at his old school to Hogwarts where he was absolutely ready to embrace change and it seemed to him like the absolute best came in the end, it seems this part of his life was certainly gonna be a lot better.

"This lesson is so long, I wish we could just have our homework assignment and move on," Virgi thought. She glanced over at James.

She stopped at her current age as requested. This wasn't as bad as she thought it was.

"Very close, dear. I suggest writing it out like this," Professor Shackleton wrote on her parchment:

"It only goes up to nine, right?" she asked nobody in particular, hoping they would understand the question. "I'm eleven."

"The chart only goes up to nine, yes. Be sure to write it like this,"

...Wait. Were they supposed to do their whole names or stop at their current age? Arabelle let out a little sigh. Her brain hurt.

"You're off to a good start. Keep going dear. Determine what your current Physical Transit is."

Onto drawing snitches.

"Get working, Mr. Upstead. At the very least get your name and the numerical equivalents on your parchment. Make me believe your trying, boy."

Professor Shackleton-Clark only commented on the parchments with some errors and left those with completely correct parchments to work in peace. Even the errors made by the students were minor, and considering this was a difficult topic in Arithmancy, Macadrian was rather proud of her students.

"I think now is a good time to begin the assessment of our current Physical Transits. As I mentioned before, the Physical Transit reveals your physical well-being, as well as your experiences on the material/worldly plane at a particular time in your life. I want you to find the textbook's explanation of your current Physical Transit, write it down on your parchment, and interpret what you think it means for your life this year that it applies to.

"You remember that mine was 'A'? The textbook reads for me: You have a mental approach to practical matters. This is a period of change, activity, progress, and creativity. The letter A adds independence and leadership to your personality. There can be quite a bit of travel and possibly a change of residence. You can expect promotion and opportunities. There may also be a real breakthrough in your awareness and perspective of life."

Professor Shackleton-Clark paused before explaining how this description applied to her current life, "This says I am in a period of change and activity. I just married over the summer and have begun a new life with someone else. That is certainly a very large change to make in one's life. Quite a bit of travel? Well, our wedding was held in Ireland where my family resides and then we traveled for our honeymoon to Greece. Not to mention, I'll likely be returning to our home in the country fairly frequently on my days off, so that is even more travel.

"Do you see how I'm dissecting the textbook's description? I'd like you all to do the same for your own current Physical Transit. You may begin, and you may choose whether to keep it to yourself or share it with the class."

Ginny Molly Weasley 09-19-2009 09:41 PM

While she saw James mouth at her "this lesson is never ending" she mouthed back, I know! This is terrible.

Virgi flipped through her textbook and finally found chapter 28. She copied on her parchment what it said,

I: This is a very emotional time with many ups and down's. You are high-strung and vulnerable to stress. You are somewhat accident prone. You need to develop calmness, centeredness, and an acceptance of life. You must control your moods and not slip into feelings of self-pity and insecurity. At the same time you are very competitive and have the opportunity to achieve success and financial reward.

Virgi looked over what the textbook said and what her parchment said and it was exactly the same. She felt good about her work.

MidnightSilver 09-19-2009 09:43 PM

Ella tapped her fingers on her desk, waiting for homework to be assigned. She looked over at Tibi. She smiled and waved; they hadn't communicated much since the train. She then looked over at James and sighed.

"Thank you, Professor!" Ella smiled. This was a great class now that she understood.

"I'm the same as you, Professor," Ella exclaimed, hand soaring up high, "I think it says it's a period of change because I just started Hogwarts. It is travel and change of residence for quite some time, right?"

Ella was grinning stupidly; it felt so good to know stuff. Aww, Ravies must feel fantasticcc.

AmbiguouslyMe 09-19-2009 09:50 PM

Tibi read through the description of B rather rapidly as that was what he had determined to be his current transit.

B: You may be more emotional and shy than usual. You have a strong need for love and can fall prey to emotional love- affairs. You have to watch for problems with health, especially related to your nervous system. You need plenty of rest. Be receptive, listen to the advice of others. There will be improvement in your career due to your sensitivity and diplomacy. Others are attracted to you and want to help you in your endeavors.

Tibi thought that sounded about right. He was naturally shy, but was feeling extra shy having started a new school and not having many new friends.

Timidly, he raised his hand, and spoke with a soft, shaky voice "my current transit is B and I think that the biggest part that I can see right now is that I have been extra shy starting a new school with people I don't know." He paused, thinking the rest of it. He opted not to share that he had burst into tears in the middle of Diagon Alley. "It also says I have to watch my health; and while I feel fine, maybe that means I need to be extra careful..." Tibi's voice trailed off. Does arithmancy predict the future? Or just help us understand the present? Tibi scrunched his face, and decided to ask.

"Excuse me professor, one more thing... does this help us predict the future? Or give us a way of looking at the present? I'm just curious how the name my parents gave me could tell me that I'd have a health problem at a certain age..." Tibi's brow creased.

james_black 09-19-2009 09:50 PM

S-Your feelings run deep and your awareness is higher than usual. It is a period of rebirth and awakening, especially of hidden aspects of your personality. Freedom in a very real and lasting sense can be your reward. You will experience sudden changes in all aspects of your life, accompanied with spiritual and mystical revelations. Your dreams may be rather intense and should be looked into for messages and understanding of your unconsciousness. There will be confrontations with strong-willed people to test the strength of your convictions. This is an exciting time full of surprises and extraordinary events.

I have recently become more confident, and found myself to be more talkative, this ties in with awakening new aspects of my personality. Also the
Freedom is conected to coming to hogwarts and being in control everything i do, i have met many new people and have put my points across and not backed down showing string inerconvection. I can't wait to see what other events i will experinse in acordence to this transet, i have not had a chance to see what my dreams will tell me. I have also found myself to attract girls more than before thing my be part of the new experinces

Silly students. Apparently they did not realize that she could see them directly in her line of vision. And did they not think after all those years as a cursebreaker, in which keeping silent and communicating with her coworkers in some of the most dangerous locations was imperative, that she did not know how to read lips? They didn't even bother to cover their mouths with their hands! Time to handle this...

"You two. Up to the front of the class right now."

Anna Banana 09-19-2009 09:52 PM

When the professor didn't specifically say anything about LouAnn's work, she assumed it was safe to say she'd done it correctly and she could move on to the next step. As she scanned the pages of her textbook once again, she couldn't help but to be just a little proud of how much she'd accomplished during her first lesson at her new school. She'd been worried that she'd be years and years behind her peers, but that hadn't been so. Sure, she wasn't a whiz at the subject, but she was happy to know she'd at least done one calculation correct! She got to work with the next step of the assignment they were meant to be working on.

Current Physical Transit: N

Textbook:
Quote:

N: You will have opportunities to expand your horizons. There will be adventurous experiences and travel. A change of residence is very possible. This is a dynamic time with many new activities. You will make some important social contacts. You search for love and fulfillment. Sacrifice, adaptability and flexibility are called for. You will also be concerned with finances and may worry too much about these matters. You tend to be forgetful during this time. You will also feel more sensual than usual. Physical exercise is important during this period.
Interpretation:
A few weeks before this school year started, I moved from one country to another, making it true that travel and a change of residence is very possible. I think this move was an opportunity to expand my horizons, as well, because with the move, I went from being home-schooled to attending a regular school. I think this will give me a bigger challenge and allow me to grow to my full potential. As far as important social contacts, that could mean anyone I have met or will meet here at Hogwarts. This could be anyone from a student to a professor to a staff member. Right now, I haven't figured out just how important these contacts will be, but I'm sure it's a work in progress. I am searching to be accepted and for fulfillment, because I really don't have a whole lot of friends here at my new school. It's sort of lonely being the new kid, but I think I'm well on my way to getting to know everyone a little better! I think I'll just have to realize that those sorts of things can take a while sometimes, and I need to just give it some time and everything will work itself out.

Torchwood 09-19-2009 09:56 PM

Oh no, it would be a couple of Ravenclaws that got called on the carpet, so to speak. Perhaps he would have to have a little chat with them back in the common room.

Tibi snapped to attention when he heard the professor call two students to the front of the class.

He was immediately struck by a sense of dread... they were both Ravenclaws. This wouldn't be good for house points; he'd already learned that much.

He put his head back down and resumed taking notes from his textbook, not wanting to appear that he was gawking.
