Alessia was looking around at the classroom. She placed a bag of sweeties at everyone's desk and waited for the students. "There done..." This room just had a weird vibe to it...

Carter looked down at his paper and began adding.

When he was done he looked up waiting for the next instruction.

Reducing, that was something LouAnn thought herself to be capable of doing. It didn't seem to hard to simply add the numbers together and come up with some single digit. Hmm...alright, so three plus three plus...
LouAnn quickly jotted down her calculations as she silently thought about the steps to the process:
Shackleton-Clark wandered the aisles, observing the students' work, trying to keep her breathing level and not think about Jake's odd behavior. "Okay, it seems like most of you have gotten that step down, so now I'd like you all to add those numbers together and reduce to a single digit number. If you're unsure how to reduce, feel free to quietly ask a classmate or me."
He put his head down on the desk, turning his head to where he could still see what he was writing as he began to add the numbers together.
Deep breaths. In and out. Thatta girl. Okay. I'm calm. I'm cool. I'm collected. Deep breaths. Right. Now get back to teaching. The other students shouldn't have to suffer because of this interruption.
Professor Shackleton-Clark turned her attention back to the class as a whole and tried to move them past this, "Okay class, we left off discussing the connection between runes and numbers. I think you've all considered their relationship enough - now it is time for an example. I'd like everyone to start by writing out their first name on their parchment and assigning the corresponding number to each letter, according to the Pythagorean number chart found in your textbook. Please stop there once you've done that."
Kay worked on adding her numbers together. 'Let's see' Kay said.
Ah, Arithmancy. Samson had still not forgotten his new-found fondness of this subject, due to the fact that the last piece of homework in that particular subject revealed that his and Issy's Physical Transit letters were connected. Hah!
Oh, oh! And now it was joined with Ancient Runes, which meant werewolf teacher. Shewooolf. Awoo! Gurglegurgle.
Ahem. Anyway.
Samson proceeded to scribble his name on a piece of parchment.
S A M S O N
1 1 4 1 6 5
1 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 6 + 5 = 18
1 + 8 = 9
"Nine is mah numbaaah," he whispered to himself as he put his quill down, a satisfied smile on his face.
"Let me guess," Jake suddenly exclaimed, talking fluently and looking up at the heads of Slytherin and Hufflepuff houses. "A great jumble of numbers and letters to make the happiest alphabet in all the magical kingdom... ahhhhh, such tranquility," he sneered mockingly, tipping his chair onto its back legs and resting his feet on the desk.
Pssssshhh. Runes. These kids were better off in the real world. Lupa hadn't even recognised the stones he had shown her... passed them off as nothing. If they knew what was good for them, they would just leave the class right now.
Hmmm...
Not that Jake was complaining about her ignorance.
"Runes and Arithmancy are pointless," he sneered again, examining the finger nails on his right hand. "What use are they against... dark arts? Look at the professors... someone who can't tell a real set of runes when she looks at them, and someone who doesn't even know where her wand is."
Smirking, Jake held back a little laughed and then stopped. He blinked once... twice... and looked around himself. Wait... what?
But then, he blinked again... and stretched his arms out before placing his hands behind his head (a posture he had picked up from Lawson). "The relationship... both ridiculous."
Abby sits at her desk taking notes not really paying attention to what's going on when she hears that voice again. Her quill rips a hole in her parchment. Abby looks up and sees Jake acting not like Jake again, or is she just imagining this? Dark Arts? Runes that aren't Runes... If Abby had any sense, she would leave class right now.

"Right you are, Professor..." Jake grinned nastily up at the woman, pulling out his wand. "But see... out of the two of us... I'm the one with the wand... You gonna make me get out of..."
At that instant, Jake blinked once more, snapping out of it and staying out of it. He pulled his feet off of the table and dropped his wand as though it was white-hot.
Ugh. Not again. He'd just have to play along this time, or Lupa would be VERY suspicious.
As for MacShack... if looks could kill, Jake would be dust. His bottom lip shook slightly, and he tried to think. His face chalk white, Jake was terrified and at a loss of what to say.
Then Jake snaps out of it just like before. Abby's stomach ties itself up in knots again. Just ignore it like Professor Lawson said. Professor Shakleford will take care of things. I doubt he would hurt a teacher particularly not one without a wand. I wonder what happened to Professor Shakleford's wand? Abby breathes a sigh of relief. Jake seems to be back to normal. Well, normal for Jake anyway. Abby goes back to listening to Professor Shakleford and pulls out a new sheet of parchment. Abby writes her first name out:

Oh great. She got the insane rune.
Celandine giggled a little, not even slightly sure how that applied to her, the meaning certainly did not match up with the numerical equivalent as per Arithmancy.

Evelyn took out the other sheet of parchment that had her notes on the runes, finding the right rune that she needed. "Okay, so two is Graphorn. Hmm..." she mumbled to herself, staring at the words.
'Protection, Repelling, Strength, Danger, Teamwork, Risks, Determination, Deception, and Love. Doesn't seem like such a bad rune. In fact, it sounds great! Maybe...slightly...' she thought, writing a few of the words down on her paper, and doodling a little, before looking up to everyone else to see what they were doing. Not quite sure what to do, she glanced at the professor with a confused expression that suddenly appeared on her face. 'Ummm...now what?'
He looked up the meaning: Mystery, Luck, Magic, secrecy, sin, evil, death. That didn't sound all that terrific to him. Luck and death together. Didn't make much sense to him. Was he going to be lucky because somebody else dies. What a dreadful thought.

Interpretations???
Mysterious Lucky Magic shrouded in Secrecy surrounded by Evil Sin resulting in Death. Yikes.
Maybe it has something to do with working with dad. His job certainly was mysterious. Sometimes they were lucky and avoided death, but he knew that sometimes they weren't so lucky. Maybe he was going to bring Magic to the job. That would be nifty.

So she was a 7. But now she was supposed to bring Runes into the mix. Letting out a quiet sigh, she glanced at the runes and meanings, before making some notes under her calculations.

The unknown rune carries the meanings of mystery, luck, magic, secrecy, sin, evil, and death. And while I can say I think some of those could possibly be attributed to me, I really don't want the others.
She looked up again as she wondered if they actually were going to have to find some way to interpret those words as connected to themselves, because as of now, she was completely stymied.

Evan was so into listening to Jake's and the Arithmancy Professor's... arguement that he didn't hear the tasks they were given. He couldn't believe how Jake acted... that kid was always crazy, but not a bad one. He wondered if Shana knew this new Jake. The blondie hadn't know him for long, but he knew that he wasn't this kind of a kid. No way. Maybe he was confused a little in the dueling arena or something?
He snapped back to classroom. What--why were people writing down? He peeked at the paper of the Ravenclaw prefect, then got what they were doing. Runes and Arithmancy. Right. He immediately got to work:

Reid sighed in relief, glad that the Professor had only told him off and not deducted any points or given him detention. That in mind Reid decided to keep quiet, he didn't need another case of foot in mouth during this lesson.
What was that? Oh first name, then reduce. Ok he could do that.

Ok that working out was simple enough but now he had to bring runes into. He was correct in thinking this lesson wasn't going to be fun. Sighing inaudibly Reid opened his Ancient Runes book to the correct page and looked for the number nine.
Quote:
Hydra (9)
Meanings:Loneliness, sadness, despair, guardian, regrowth, terror, doing too much at one time.
Looking down at what he'd written Reid frowned slightly, not liking the description given for the rune one little bit.
Laying with the side of his face resting on the desk, Jake listened to the next instructions and paused in his doodling of a snidget to get to work properly.
Staring at the meanings for a moment, the Jake inside of Jake let out a most INSANE laugh at the irony. "HAHAHAHAHAHA," he blurted out suddenly, interupting the calm of the classroom. And then, almost as soon as he started, Jake stopped.
Once that was done, Jake silently and inexplicably began drawing two little figures at the bottom of his parchment, one holding a wand on another, who was wandless. He picked up his wand from the floor and inconspicuously tapped the drawing, which began to reconstruct a fatal scene. Blinking a little, Jake lay his head back down.

More calculations? Kiri flipped to the next page of her notebook and started writing, mumbling the numbers under her breath.

Next, Kiri consulted her Ancient Runes textbook. The number two stood for...
Graphorn.
Meanings: Protection, Repelling, Strength, Danger, Teamwork, Risks, Determination, Deception, Love.
Kiri eyed the list of meanings. It seemed to be a very diverse and contradictory assortment.
Woah, boy! Dang, did that kid lose his nutter, or what? Nikki stared wide eyed in shock, at the Huffie who was mouthing off. Nikki didn't really know him to well, and didn't have many friends, but she was damn sure he was usually pretty swell. The Profs seemed to be kinda bugged out too...
While Nikki had been daydreaming about the nutter, everyone else had moved on. After she realised she was the only one not doing anything, she hurried along, and tried to drag the few words she'd heard into making sense. 'Pythagoran...textbook...corresponding...runes...s ingle number....BUGGER!!'

She looked at Destiny confused for a moment when she said 'no cheating', before breaking into a smile, chuckling. "I'll try not to. I never knew our names were so close to one another." she whispered back, shaking her head somewhat.
Ah, well. When all else fails, sneak a glance at the person next to you. But make sure they're in your house first. Cuz, y'know, they'd want you to get points and all...right??? The firstie tried to sneak a glance at what the girl next to her was doing. She and her friend were talking about how their names were close, or something. Neither of them would notice...
Nikki quickly copied down the girl's work, and sat staring at it. Finally, it clicked what she had to do. The brunette started scribbling furiously to catch up to everyone else.

Woot for having double letters!!! And a nice short name, too. Nikki put her quill down, and nibbled on another lolly. Time for step two.
5+9+2+2+9 = 27
2+7 = 9
SWEET! It was a bit too easy though...-yawn- Nikki tried to stifle a yawn behind her hand. She hoped the Professors didn't see. She was interested, but she liked to do more practical stuff.
Last part! Nikki munched on another sweet while she flipped to the right page in her Runes textbook. Hmmm, the 9th Rune...Aha! Here it was!
"Hydra (9)
Meanings:Loneliness, sadness, despair, guardian, regrowth, terror, doing too much at one time."
'Right...Time to interpret' She bent over her partchment, and wrote quickly, splashing ink over her parchment, and almost knocking over her inkwell three times. By the time she was finished, Nikki's parchment looked like this:
-splodge-
-insert ink-
-insert more ink-
-insert a line of stars-
5+9+2+2+9 = 27
2+7 = 9
My number is the number 9, and so my corresponding Rune is the Hydra. It has the follo-splat-ng meanings:Loneliness, sadness, despair, guardian, regrowth, terror, doing too much at one time.
My interpretation of this is that I'm lonely because I'm doing too much, and therefore, don't have time to socialise. Because of this, I'm upset and wondering how I'm gonna get all this stuff done. Ummm, I'm also scared of the mountain of things I'm doing, and realise I should...uh, change, and be lessed stressed? I'm not quite sure how the guardian fits into everything...Maybe I get a familar??? That'd be cool...'
Nikki had tried to remove most of the stains, with a Scrougify spell, or something. Most of them vanished, or faded. However, somehow she managed to set fire to her parchment... Now there was a burn mark in the lower right corner, and she smelled smoky...-sigh-
She was confused about her translation, and wasn't sure she was right. But, at least she tried (she vaguely thought she should pay this much attention in Divination). After cleaning some ink off the desk, Nikki doodled a bit on the piece of parchment she'd used to copy Evelyn's work, and hummed a little ditty under her breath, waiting for the lesson to continue.
Okay, so apparently Edem was lost in thought, watching the verbal battle between Jake Upstead and Professor Shackleton, and was snapped back to reality when he noticed his classmates were already starting to do something. He pulled out his quill and a piece of parchment. Not really sure what he learned in his last Arithmancy lesson besides the transit cycles, he opened his textbook to get an idea on what he really was supposed to do. Pythagorean numbers?
I got this Rune for my future while I was doing my Ancient Runes homework. Does that mean the future has come for me?
That was all he could add to the interpretation. He couldn't help making a reference to the homework. It still hadn't come off of his mind.. Also, credits to the homework, he could remember almost every meaning to every Rune.

Four. Cracking open his Runes textbook next, he looked for which rune. He hadn't quite memorized them yet. Running his finger down the page, he saw that the Fwooper was his rune. Insanity, happiness, emotions, impurity, negative beauty and natural equalization, eh?
Trying not to jump to any conclusions about what that might mean, Tibi looked up at the professors, trying not to think about what Jake had said.
