Homework - Lesson 1 - The Rowling Alphabet
Give a friend a 3 rune spread reading using the Rowling Runes with the meanings you came up with. It will be due a week from now. Class dismissed."
A line of runes is called a “spread.” The three rune spread signifies where you have been, where you are, and on what you need focus on for the future.
A. Ask a question.
B. Draw a rune at random. This is the past, and it provides background to the situation, showing the events that led up to the situation. Lay it out first.
C. Draw another. This second rune is the now or the present and it gives insight into the current situation. Lay it to the left of the first rune.
[ 2 ] [ 1 ]
D. Draw the last rune. This third and last rune sybolizes your focus for the future. Lay it out to the left.
[ 3 ] [ 2 ] [ 1 ]
E. Use the rune meaning we came up with in class to interpret the spread.
ooc: A week from the date and time of the class post. You may chose to roleplay the reading, in which case, PM me the link to the post, or you may chose not to role play, and just send me tell me what question you asked the runes and how you arrived to your answer.
We've practiced a little self defense here in the classroom, as well as discussed a few techniques. Now, I would like to hear you explain what you would do in these situations.
1. You are a muggle, meaning that you have no magic at all. You are walking home from school one night, and it's already dark. You hear rustling in the bushes nearby, and an unknown man jumps out at you shaking a stick. What are five things you think you could do in this situation to get out of trouble? (5 points)
2. You are a muggle, again. This time you are an adult. You are alone in an unfamiliar city and you have no money. There are some very bizarre people in the area around you and although they haven't done or said anything yet, they just give you a sense of being dangerous. What should you do? (5 points)
3. How important do you think martial arts are in self defense? If you were to learn self defense, which discipline would you practice?
PM your answers to me, Slytherin Fox, on or before midnight EST Monday, October 12, 2009. Be sure and include your name, house and user ID number. (To find this, aim the mouse over your name and your user number will show up at the bottom of your screen.)
Are you a First Year who can't wait to get on a broom and learn how to properly fly? Or are you an older student who is petrified of flying and prefers to be beaten in a broom race by the butterflies? If you answered 'Yes' to either of these questions, then take a deep breath and head on down to the first Flying lesson of the year!
When: 2 OCT 9pm EST - 4 OCT 9pm EST** Where: The Practice Pitch Who Can Attend: First Years and those who are petrified of flying more than 4 inches above the ground (Quidditch captains and those who have played on their House teams are not allowed to attend).
*Broomsticks and safety gear will be provided*
**All times are Eastern USA (EST)
And now a special service announcement
from the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Games and Sports.
Don't let this happen toYOU. Distractions while flying can be hazardous to your health,
so remember that smart fliers are safe fliers.

Please be sure to submit your homework in the format requested. Credit will no longer be given if the questions are morphed into one giant essay, and likewise if an essay is requested then an essay is required.
Also, be aware that I too have access to textbooks. Do NOT copy and paste from the textbook and submit it as your answer. From now on there will be NO warnings about this.
1st offence: assignment credit will be cut in half, letter grade will remain the same.
2nd offence: no points earned, void grade, possible detention.
I am letting all Gryffindor students know that we are going to be having a mandatory meeting beginning Monday, October 4 in the Gryffindor area and I need all students to attend and contribute to the meeting.

Reason: Adding List :D
CHOOSE ONE and 'send' it to both Professors Bunbury (BanaBatGirl) and Morgan (Liisa).
Option 1: Take all that you have learned about wand cores and woods and use that information to write a detailed essay about how YOUR wand relates to you. Why you believe that particular wand core/wood combination "chose" you and what you think that says about your personality. Also, how do you think your wand will help you to achieve your goals now and in the future.
Option 2: Using the "ingredients" you gathered during the scavenger hunt, create your own wand and describe the properties it would have and how the Celtic calender could factor into who would be chosen by this wand."
Due: October 18th
(by midnight GMT)
Worth: 20 points
*note for class participation* Those of you who participated in the scavenging and actually went out and followed (any or all!) the Narrator's posts will receive points IF you PM both Liisa and BanaBatGirl with links to your 'collecting' correctly labeled by item on the list. What I mean is: go to where you found the maple leaf, yew, snidget feathers, etc, click on the post number in the upper right corner of the post, and then PM that link to us named by whatever item you found. It sounds more complicated than it is, but I've made a link example here to that post so yeah. It will be worth it if you identify and link them all correctly. PM us with questions if I'm not being clear.

Homework - Lesson 2 - Arithmancy and the Rowling Runes
Take your name, and add it up together without reducing each name.
A L E S S I A * N I C O L E T T A * L U P A
1 3 5 1 1 9 1 * 5 9 3 6 3 5 2 2 1 * 3 3 7 1 = 71 = 8
So my Rowling rune is the number 8 rune
This means I'm intelligent, I'm good with language and speaking, I am feared... unfortunatly, I don't like people who are uncaring, I'm aware of Magical creatures... as tecnically I AM one, and I'm dangerous... especially when someone takes my last piece of chocolate cake! So watch out!
Your assignment is to:
1. Find your Rowling Rune.
2. Tell me how you are like the meanings of the runes.
3. Do the same for Professor Macadrian Shackleton Clark (use Shackleton as a middle name) and Headmaster Reynard Pepe Bontecou (use Pepe as Middle Name)
4. Draw your interpretation of the creature on YOUR Rowling rune (number 7's you have free reign!)
ooc: This homework is due ONE week from the date and time of THIS POST. I may chose to accept late homework, but at half the points. PM me or lemondrop13 questions. Please PM both of us your homework.
For those of you who know me you know how ironic it is for Less's rune to be #8... and yes I tried reducing the first, second and third before adding them together... I get 8 again... 21, 36, 14 => 3+9+5 => 17 =>8... *sigh*
When: 26 OCT 9pm EST* Where: The Practice Pitch Who Can Attend: First through Seventh Years. Broomsticks and other equipment will be provided. Dress warmly because it's winter and we're going to be outside. Those who turn into human popsicles will be sent to the Hospital Wing.
*Thread will stay open for the duration of the lesson which will end on 28 OCT @ 11:59pm EST (remember, the US is still on daylight/summer time).
