Ancient Runes - Final: Part Three (Arithmanrunes)

You walk through and barking is heard. You see another sign:

"There have been speculations on how similarities Arithmancy and Runes are as subject. Pick a professor of your choice (not myself, the Headmaster or Professor Shakleton-Clark)

Take their name, and add it up together without reducing each name.

For example:
A L E S S I A * N I C O L E T T A * L U P A
1 3 5 1 1 9 1 * 5 9 3 6 3 5 2 2 1 * 3 3 7 1 = 71 = 8

Then look at the meanings of the number eight, and then find a Futhark Rune that is similar to it in meanings. Then tell me how you would use that rune to stop the barking at my office.

Once finished, you may leave. Your Final will be reviewed and points will be assigned. Thank You, and I hope you have a great summer.

Professor Alessia Lupa"

ooc: RP yourself entering, writing the arithmetic equation and leaving, then PM me your answer. I prefer to receive 1 PM, but 3 is fine too. This thread will close on December 7th, and no more PMs will be accepted.

Michelle entered through the final curtain. There were so many professors to choose from. Which one would she pick? Finally, she settled on one. She then added the numbers together until it reached a single number. Then, she found the Futhark Rune that was the most similar in meaning. Finally, she wrote how she would use the rune to stop the barking. She was now finished with the exam, so she turned it in and left the room.

The barking was annoooooooying. Celandine was finding it harder to concentrate on the task because of it. She wasn't sure which professor she'd do, and after seeing the second part of the task she decided to figure them all out and choose the one with the number that she could see the clearest connection to furthark meanings. She got started with her figuring then wrote up her answer and applied to the Furthark and the barking as best she could. As soon as she was done, she turned her work face down and left the room, eager for the next final.

Kay walked into the last room. She sat down and read the assignment. Picking up the quill she thought about who she would do. Which professor would be the one. Kay started to write her numbers and adding them up to get the single number that she would need. Looking through the runes she wrote more information on her test parchment. Kay sat and tried to think of how this would help the barking in the Professor's office. She wrote her answer and hoped that she had done a good job on her final. Kay put the quill down turned her final over and walked out of the room.

Marie walked through the last curtain greatful that she was almost finished with this test. Seeing what the assignment was made her happy. 'Yeah, I get to use arithmancy here, something I really know about.'
Sitting down she grabbed some parchment and a quill and worked her way through the problem. Once she was done she turned in her test and left.

Destiny 12-03-2009 05:23 AM

Yay, the last part of the final! Destiny was even more nervous this time through the curtain. She did not know what to expect. And that blasted barking. She heard enough of that to last her a lifetime. Hopefully this part will be easy so she could hurry up and get out and away from the barking.

Arithmanrunes! Destiny liked that lesson. Destiny picked a professor and started to get to work. Easy!
Yep, she was done!! She flipped her parchment over and left.

Maxilocks 12-03-2009 03:34 PM

Oh good, the last part! Which was ... AN AWESOME ONE! Because it referred to Arithmancy. Arithmancy! The fourth year grinned to himself as he set down to work, and begun to do the calculations required.

...

......

........

HE WAS DONE!

Fyo left quickly, eager for the finals that he had still to take. Hopefully, he would scrape by with an E on this. Because if he got a grade lower than that, his dad was not going to be very pleased.

Not good, thatttttt.

Torin walked through the last curtain.

Oooh. He had to do Arithmancy and Ancient Runes together again. And he had an idea of which Professor he would do it on.

He quickly started to get to work. It wasn't even that hard.

When he was done, he left and hoped that he would manage to pass.

Fallon walked into the final room and sat down. She read over the third set of instructions. Great. Arithimancy and Runes again. Fallon thought sarcastically to herself. She didn't waste as much time thinking about what she was doing this time. She just started it and got done with it as quickly as she could. Once she was done, she flipped the parchment over and exited the classroom.

Blake walked through the curtain and grabbed an empty seat. He was hesitant at first to look at their task but meh, he had to. Okay the Arithmancy part won't be a problem and he exactly knew which Professor to choose. But the barking was terrible! How was he ever going to focus? Sighing, he started with his Arithmancy calculations, almost rushing through it.

Few minutes of intense thinking found him the perfect corresponding Futhark rune. Yay! He dipped his quill in inkwell and scribbled the barking solution hastily annnnd he was done. Freeeeeee. Smiling and feeling a bit proud for pulling this off without proper studying, Blake left the class, smiling.

Matheu entered hearing the most annoying barking in the world. He took a seat at his desk and put himself in a trance to tune the barking out. Once it was tuned out, he read the final set of instructions. ARITHMANCY! This was his field of work. He used professor Ethan Alexander Truebridge to do his work. When he did the final calculation, found the rune and meaning, he signed his paper, flipped it over and left feeling very confident.

StarShine 12-05-2009 05:32 PM

Evan had still some sort of a crying expression when he entered the class. He read the instructions quickly, wanting to be done as soon as possible before he was broken down. He frowned. Barking? Er..? He got to writing. This exam wasn't going to end well either.

When he was finished, he literally took a deep breath. It was finally ended. Now he could happily get out and cry over his not studying well, blaming himself.

AmbiguouslyMe 12-05-2009 08:14 PM

Tibi frowned as the barking reached his ears. He'd suspected the reason behind it, but Merlin, it was annoying.

Reading over the final task, he furrowed his brow. Use the rune? Had he missed something? Plugging his ears, he tried to block out the barking so he could hear better. Chewing on his lip and counting on his fingers, he started with the name and the reducing. And then the number meaning and rune match?

Tibi rubbed his eyes. The barking was making it so hard to concentrate. Finally, perhaps giving up a little, he scrawled down his answer for how to stop the barking, turned in his work and high-tailed it out of there in favor of somewhere quiet.

As soon as she'd stepped through the last curtain, LouAnn immediately heard loud, annoying barking. She cringed then made her way to yet another desk. It would be a little difficult to work with all the noise, but at least LouAnn would be all done once this was over. She quickly read the sign with the directions then thought carefully about the middle names of her professors. When she decided on someone, she began her calculations. With that done, she analyzed the meaning of the number she arrived at and chose a rune to try and stop the barking---which was still deeply annoying her. Ugh!

She quickly finished, checked over her work, then left the room. Another final down!

First thing Evelyn noticed when she walked through the last curtain was...the barking. 'They still haven't been able to move those boxes? Seriously?' Frowning, she sat down and read the instructions. Ugh, now she had to pick a professor. Definitely not the Whatshername since, well, she couldn't remember her name. 'Smaaaaart Ev.' Shaking her head, she thought for a moment, going through the list of teachers in her mind before choosing one, finally.

Once done with the first part, Evelyn read the instructions on more time. They had to what? Find a rune with a similar meaning? They had to think with this noise going on in the background? Pssh, that wasn't fair... 'If I get a bad grade on this, I'm blaming it on the barking!' Trying to figure out which rune was similar to the Professor's and then try and figure out how to use the rune to stop the barking... Well how do you do that anyway?

After awhile, she chose a rune and scribbled down an answer. There! Done! Standing up with a big smile on her face, she stretched a little and then left the room, happy to be done with the final.

DH Vixen 12-06-2009 09:31 AM

The moment Mina walked through the final curtain, the loud and annoying barking began to set off a headache. Just great, it's the barking AGAIN! Yes, the foreboding feeling was nearly gone, but now a headache was going to take its place. She quickly read the sign as she covered her ears. Hopefully she could finish quickly and be rid of the bark.

She chose the first professor to come to her mind and started her calculations. Writing down each letter and the corresponding number, she added them all up and then simplified them. Now to the hard part, finding a corresponding rune to go with it. The task alone was difficult, but with the added noise, it was even more trying for her.

Quickly she finished and scribbled down the remaining work and turned the parchment over. The noise was getting to be too much for her and she needed to get away from it. Grabbing her things she got up and left the room. One more final finished and one step closer to the summer.

Shumeeta heard a loud bark as she stepped through the last curtain. How annoying! The sixth year scrunched up her eyebrows an' got down to work. She chose a professor, found a rune that tied up with the number the professor's name resulted in 'an finally wrote a bit about how the rune could be used to put a stop the barking.

Once she was done, she quietly left.

Fira 12-06-2009 06:48 PM

And what was that sound...a dog? Weird. But it also made the Gryffindor smile a little because it was no more the usual, annoying, examination silence. Though he knew it was going to be a little bit harder to think while that sound existed, the stressful air of silence wa gone. He was feeling more confident and ready for the third part now. His dark eyes on the intructions his smile got bigger as this one looked way eaiser than others. Except the truth that he had no idea how could a rune stop barking. He shrugged at the though, he was going to worry about this once he found out the number and the similar rune anyhow. After he was done with all the calculating and spotting the rune, an answer for the barking question shapened in his mind. Could it be? 'Worths trying'. Stll his smile on his face he wrote down his ideas on how to stop the barking and left the place.

Wesley had seen (and strongly disliked) the boxes. Probably everyone had seen the boxes. And at the beginning of the school term, she would have said that everyone strongly disliked the boxes as well. But now, with all the W.O.L.F. posters hanging around, she wasn't so sure.

And what was even more disturbing to the tiny Hufflepuff, was the fact that she couldn't think of a single person who liked the boxes. She didn't want to think of a single person who liked the boxes. And yet, somewhere there was somebody blaming somebody of something the somebody they where blaming couldn't control. Wesley didn't understand. She didn't want to understand.

So generally, she just didn't think about it. Because thinking about it gave her a headache, and Wesley did not like headaches.

She was getting a headache right now.

And it wasn't just because of the barking. She didn't know the middle names of any of the professors...except maybe Professor Truebridge. The question was, was it 'Arther' or 'Alexander' or 'Alabaster'? Unable to decide, she wrote them all down on the piece of parchment, closed her eyes, and randomly pointed at one.

Then, using that name, the 2ed year began to work on the final portion, and, after heavy contemplation on solutions to the barking, finished and eagerly left the classroom.

ACK. Barking. Ew. Why was it barking?

As soon as Livvy entered through the curtain, she noticed the sign that stated what the assignment was. ERGH. Great. How exactly were they supposed to calculate and decide the best rune when there was stupid barking going on? That was just going to break the concentration and Livvy swore she was going to hurt someone soon. UGH. She was getting tired of all these Finals. She wanted them to be over and done with!

Livvy made her way over to an empty desk and pulled out a piece of parchment. After choosing a professor, she wrote down the values for each letter and added them together, then reduced them. She then found the meaning for the value that was left and tried to choose a Futhark rune that was similar in meaning. Stupid barking. Livvy just had enough about it.

Once finished, she didn't even bother to check her work. It was probably all correct. She stood up from her chair and left straight away. Talk about a pain in the neck, barking boxes.

atmor 12-08-2009 03:28 AM

Ken was just about ready to give up, who set these?! Sighing heavily and sitting in the back once more he pulled his parchment gabbed his pen from his pocket and began to try the stupid test. He had to try right.

Cassirin 12-08-2009 04:41 AM

Oh, whew! This was the absolute toughest part, and Copernicus scrambled to tug his parchment and quill from his bag. If he could just get the numbers added together, perhaps the rest of it would make sense too. Hopefully.

He tallied his column of numbers with a little sigh, seeing the numbers dance into place before his eyes. This was why he liked Runes and Arithmancy so much... there was so much clarity to them. No shades of gray except in interpretation. He rolled the parchment up, submitted it, and departed from the room.
