Default Transfiguration Lesson 3

The transfiguration classroom, usually packed with desks and chairs, is completely void of furniture today. The only reminder of the room's identity is Professor Svensson, standing in front of a chalkboard at the front of the room. The chalkboard is blank, for it is the professor himself who gives today's simple instructions as you walk into the classroom.

"Find a seat. Sit down."

"Most people think of them as one and the same, due to their sharing many incantations. For example, if I wanted to conjure a chair, I'd use the same spell as if I wanted to make a chair I'd vanished re-appear. The difference is that a conjured chair would eventually disappear, whereas the chair I'd made re-appear would remain intact." Hmm... Lars could ramble, it seemed. "Does that make sense?"
Did that make sense?

Fyo guessed it did. He nodded, hand still in air. "Sir, is the time span before a conjured object vanishes random, or does it depending on factors such as size or how powerful the spell cast is?" Curiosity did always kill the cat but, then again, he was a Lion. LionRAWR.

"Are you alright?" he asked kindly, holding out a hand to help the girl up. He would figure out how there was still a chair and a desk later--for now, student safety was the most important thing in his mind. Because of course a little girl was more important than a three-legged wooden chair.
"wha? oh yes, yes i'm fine thank you, sir" Lyra said while taking his hand and stood up from the floor. "so sorry" she started to muttered and stared at her fingers which where suddenly very interesting , 'wow this is embarrassing' she thought and scratched her head. "i, this is the first time my Transfiguration is working , in the other classes i was aweful but now it had actually worked!" the girl said looking up now and smiled broadly , she pointed at the table where a canary feather was lying. "i got a little too excited and well, i guess i need to control my magic the next time huh?" she said looking at the professor "again sorry"

Before anybody thinks of trying to help me conjure my furniture back, and definitely before anybody attempts to test this law and its exceptions (which won't get you anywhere, I assure you), we're all going to work on conjuring bird feathers," the professor told the class matter-of-factly.

Drawing his wand, Professor Svensson demonstrated for the class. "Watch closely, now," he said. Focusing his mind on a canary feather, Lars spoke the incantation ("plumexer") clearly and twisted his wand ever-so-slightly. Catching the conjured feather in his free hand, Svensson held it up to show the class. "See? There's basically no wand movement, and 'plumexer' is quite simple to say," he explained. "So if there's no questions, you can start trying to conjure feathers!"
As hard as it was to ignore the fact she was filled up with furniture right now, Wesley listened and watched intently, trying to memorize every single thing. This was the greatest class in the history of classes. It was almost as if the professor had read her mind! Stomaching her giddiness, Wesley tried to remain focused. She HAD to get this right. After all, she had promised that pebble she would bring it back. And promises where promises.

Taking out her wand, Wesley tried to picture a pretty yellow feather, just like the professor's, in her mind. "Plumexer," she said softly, twisting her wrist. But...nothing happened.

Starting to get a little agitated, she needed to figure this out before class ended, Wesley tried again,

and failed.

Biting her lip and rocking slightly on her heals, the Hufflepuff tried to figure out exactly what she was doing wrong. She thought of the feather: she could see it- bright yellow, soft and fluffy. And Wesley thought she had said the spell right. She had even twisted her wand! But...Maybe that's it. Maybe it's just like some doors, when they don't open after you twist the nob, then you have to twist the other way...sometimes you have to kick them too-But! Oh, I hope I don't have to do any kicking...that would be bad.

So, shoulders firmly set, Wesley tried again. Feather? Yes, there it was, floating in her mind Check. Okay, now I just need to say it right: Plu-mex-er. And then, twist the wrist. Really small. Opposite. Taking a breath, she exhaled it in the word, "Plumexer." and twisted her wrist the opposite direction.

And there it was, right in front of her, falling lazily down to the ground. Excited, Wesley grabbed it, then held it close to her face for self examination. It was all scrunched up from when she had grasped it. Feeling sad, Wesley whispered sorry to the feather, which was very Hufflepuff in color.

Daniel was up to the challenge of conjuring the needed item. A feather. He stepped towards the center of the class.

So what bird will he be thinking? An eagle? A canary like the Professor's? Aha! he exclaimed from his thought. I know what will i think of.

He then pointed his wand upwards and muttered Plumexer. Then a long green plumage came from nowhere. He then tried to catch it and it landed directly to his palm. It was an exotic parrot's plumage.

Now that he had conjured it, Fyo was not sure what to do with his canary feather - that was not a thing he had lost much thought over, was it now? The third year hesitated, unsure, before pocketing the pwetty thing.

If Professor Svensson wanted it, Fyo could always return it!

But, now, for something more.... unique. Canary feathers were fine enough, and Fyo loved their yellow, but he wanted to try something else. How about a budgie feather? Or maybe an Australian parrot? Wait, wait, waiiiit! That awesome orange parrot-like bird, his father had brought home the other day, Fyo decided excitedly. Conjuring one of those feathers would be awesome!

In a jovial mood now, the third year raised his wand again, twisting his wrist just a tad bit as he said the incantation, "Plumexer!" There was a milisecond of wait and then, much to Fyo's joy, a single but very beautiful, orange feather floated to the ground.

He picked it up, his eyes shining. Ha! He would have to show his father, this. Because honestly, this was like a souvenir, only better!

Celandine made a little face, wishing that she was learning something a liiiiittle more exciting than feather conjuring. The professor didn't expect people to get it on their first try? Really? Didn't Professor Svensson know by now that Transfiguration was her second best subject? Second only to charms? Hmmmm what kind of feather should she conjure though? Pink?

No...

"Plumexer!" A brightly coloured feather that could only be a fwooper feather appeared from her wand as Cela made a neat little twist of her wand to punctuate the incantation.

She let it fall to the ground and bent to scoop it up. Maybe Professor Svensson would teach them how to conjure tar?

Cel peeked over at Daphne and let out a little giggle. Surely Daph would be totally into learning how to do that! They could get revenge on the creepy patrons at the Hogs Head!

This was interesting. A transfiguration of a feather with nothing to work on? Tricky. It is true hear hair and probably feathers must be made by dead cells, but they were pretty much organisms as opposed to solid matter such as... metal pins. Indeed, to picture the whole substance before her...

"Ah, plumexer--" Nothing. "Plumexer!" ...Nop. "Plumexer..." One more time, "plumexer," That's all there''s to it.

Diane was crouching down at her seat and flicking her wand, "...plumexer... plumexer... plumexer..." After five minutes of having repeated the incantation, she had managed to come up with a furball of sorts, half an eyebrow, a naked shaft and a very ill-looking feather missing almost all of its barbs. It would take her at least 10 more minutes at this pace...

Dani pulled out her wand. So far Transfiguration hadn't been her top subject, but she was going to do this. "Plumexer!" Nothing happened. She poked the air with her wand. Lame. She was gonna do this.

With a little less confidence she waved her wand again "Plumexer!" Once again, nothing. She frowned at her wand. What was she doing wrong. She looked over at Anna and noticing how the Gryffindor Head Girl did it, she mimicked the motion and said. "Plumexer!"

A bright red feather popped out of her wand. It was the exact feather she had pictured in her mind. The phoenix feather was shiny and bright. She wondered if the one in her wand was just as pretty.

Upon hearing the next instuction fom her professor she decided to jump right in and try it. She took out her wand barely even concentrating on what she was doing said, "plumexter". Nothing happened. She looked around at the way some of the older students were waving their wand with results and decided to try again. She waved her wand as they did and said, "plumexter", and this time of a feather was conjured cause she was partially thinking about what she wanted to see happen. She decided to go for it once more and waved her wand like she had before and really concentrated on wanting to see that feather appear amd said, "plumexer". This time the feather fully appeared and Herminny smiled because she had done it.

"It depends on the strength of the spell, mostly," Professor Svensson told the boy. "So if a first year were to conjure something, it would only vanish within a fraction of the time it takes something conjured by a seventh year to vanish."

A glance around the room told him that the students had mostly succeeded in conjuring feathers. Marvelous--that meant he could end the class. "Class dismissed!" Oh, but they would want to know what to do with their feathers. "You can keep the feathers until they vanish, if you'd like. Otherwise, you can put them in the box by the door on your way out." Professor Svensson quickly conjured a small cardboard box and carried it to the back of the room, where he set it down. "As an optional project--not to turn in, just for your own enlightenment, you can research other conjuring spells."

Chris nodded and smiled at the Professor. He had just finished his last Transfiguration Lesson of the term and he had done pretty good. As he was leaving he took the option of placing his feather in the box that was given that purpose. He had alot of Finals studying to due and he had to concentrate on that. But he was definately up for research om Conjuring spells later.
