Ooh. She knew this! Vanessa thought for a moment before raising her hand. "Don't vanished objects go into the "Non-being?"

Maxilocks 08-07-2009 12:55 PM

YAYAY, questions! Fyo raised his hand, sure he knew the answer to this one. "The state of non-being," he stated politely. "In other words, they cease to exist until they are re-conjured, professor."

Lars nodded in appreciation of the further explanation. "Good. So right now, your chairs and desks are in nonbeing--in everything--and thus will not really exist until we conjure them back," he said. "There's not a moment to lose!"

Then he paused. "But first--we should probably talk about the rules of conjuring. Who can tell me what Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration tells us? And perhaps what its five Principal Exceptions are?"

Waterloo 08-07-2009 01:03 PM

Conjuring, huh? That sounded sorta cool, Clifford supposed as he raised his hand. "Don't they evaporate into a bazillion squillion tiny ickle pieces and then float around us?" So they were like... BREATHING desks. Desk air. Yum?

RachieRu 08-07-2009 01:10 PM

"Oooh.Isn't it the law of wizarding physics which states that magic has to create or destroy". Vanessa spoke, as she raised her hand. "Two of five principle exceptions are Food and Love"

Waterloo 08-07-2009 01:16 PM

"Yeah, what Prefect Mid --" Ah. ".. Corbette said," Clifford nodded, hand in the air. "Dontcha think it sucks that food is in that list?" He did. Siiiigh. "Uhm. I think life is one of the five too? And money?"

Maxilocks 08-07-2009 01:16 PM

Fyo raised his hand again. "The law tells us about magic's powers to create and destroy, professor," he said. "Four of the five Principal Exceptions exceptions are food, love, life, and information, but I can't remember the fifth." He paused, embarrassed. "I think it might be money, professor."

Jessica 08-07-2009 01:21 PM

"Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration is a law of wizardin' physics which states what powers magic has to create or destroy matter," Shumeeta said with hand in air. "Everyone has already told the exceptions to it, an' they just go to show you can't use magic to do things like create food or actual love or bring someone back from the dead."

Hedwig18 08-07-2009 01:23 PM

Ana raised her hand "The Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration is a law about what magic can create or destroy and its five exceptions are food, love, money, life and information."

Daffy.Potter 08-07-2009 03:07 PM

Livvy raised her hand and answered, "Isn't the Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration a law of wizarding physics? I believe that this law states about the powers of magic and what it can create and destroy. The Five Principle Exceptions to this law is food... love... life... information... and some believe the fifth to be money."

dan arjay 08-07-2009 03:14 PM

Daniel raised his hand and cleared his throat, "Professor, the Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration is a law in wizarding physics about what magic can create or destroy. And the five exceptions would be food, money and precious metals, magical objects, information and true life. But There are undefined exceptions in that rule that history proved to be confusing." he said. "Like for example, the rule states that food cannot be created out of nowhere, it can only be conjure, transfigured, or multiplied. But during the time of Harry Potter, Mr. Ollivander pour wine from Harry's wand." he said, which is really confusing.

She-Who-Is-Not-To-Be-Psycho! 08-07-2009 05:48 PM

Diane listened to other people answer the question, and then raised her hand. "Would the exception to those rules be, The Philosopher's Stone?" she pondered out loud "Creating life... gold... I'm guessing food would be easy in comparison."

PadfootAndTheWolf 08-08-2009 01:04 AM

Chris raised his hand excitedly. "Professor, doesn't it state that magic must destroy or create something. And the 5 Principal Exceptions for Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration are life, food , information, money, and love.

From her spot in the classroom, Anna stood and listened to the discussion going on around her. It was only when the topic turned to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration that she decided to speak up. Raising her hand, she said, "Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration describes to us the manner in which items can be created or destroyed through magical means. Through Gamp's Law, we learn that love can not created, only imitated. Even then, though, it's only really an obession. Umm...food can be multiplied from a real food object, but you can't just create food from nothing at all," she said. "Hmm...oh, um, gold can be created by using the Philosopher's Stone, and...oh, yeah, life can be created, such as birds conjured by Avis or flowers conjured by Orchideous." That was all she really remembered about Gamp's Law, and even then, she wasn't really sure of her answer at all.

"It is indeed a law of wizarding physics," Lars confirmed with a nod in the Hufflepuff's direction. "And thank you for giving two of the five exceptions. Take two points for your house." With a piece of chalk from the floor, Professor Svensson quickly scribbled those two Principal Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration on the chalkboard.

"A point to Slytherin," Professor Svensson said, quickly adding life and money to the list.

"I am not an expert on the subject, but the Philosopher's Stone does not create life--it simply prolongs it," Professor Svensson kindly explained to the girl.

Time to get to the point. "Now, I don't expect many of you to be able to conjure anything on the first try. Before anybody thinks of trying to help me conjure my furniture back, and definitely before anybody attempts to test this law and its exceptions (which won't get you anywhere, I assure you), we're all going to work on conjuring bird feathers," the professor told the class matter-of-factly.

Drawing his wand, Professor Svensson demonstrated for the class. "Watch closely, now," he said. Focusing his mind on a canary feather, Lars spoke the incantation ("plumexer") clearly and twisted his wand ever-so-slightly. Catching the conjured feather in his free hand, Svensson held it up to show the class. "See? There's basically no wand movement, and 'plumexer' is quite simple to say," he explained. "So if there's no questions, you can start trying to conjure feathers!"

PadfootAndTheWolf 08-08-2009 04:58 AM

Chris listened intently as the Professor explained the wand movement and the incantation seemed easy enough. He took a deep breath and barely twisted his wand. "Plumexer." he watched as nothing happened.

It didn't work. Hey it was only his first try, he focused and readied himself to try again.

Daffy.Potter 08-08-2009 05:20 AM

Ah yes... conjuring bird feathers. Suppose it was better to do so, instead of accidentally conjuring a table with three legs missing of some sort. So yes... bird feathers was better, than Professor Svensson would have to buy new ones. Well.. how considerate.

Livvy watched carefully as the Professor demonstrated to the class, explaining the wand movement and the incantation. Her watchful eyes, catching the slightest of movements. After the Professor allowed them to try the spell out, Livvy looked over to where her friend, Chris, sat, who was performing the spell... but it it didn't look like it had worked. Hmm....

She decided to give it a go. She pulled out her wand from under her robes as she just held her wand up. Did it matter what angle it was? So... Livvy said the incantation, "Plumexer" and as she did so, she twisted her wand ever so slightly, you hardly noticed it. Yet... nothing. Livvy assumed that concentration on a bird feather was essential.

Another try then. Once more, she said the incantation, "Plumexer" and twisted her wand just a tad bit, her mind concentrating on a robin feather. Livvy looked up to see if any feather was falling... and there was. A beautiful robing feather. She stared up at it and it fell and reached out for it, catching it in her small fingers.

PadfootAndTheWolf 08-08-2009 05:24 AM

Chris took a deep breathe again, ready this time to conjure his feather. He concentrated hard on a feather appearing from his wand and then did the slight wand movement and said the spell. "Plumexer." he waited a fraction of a second and then a feather came appeared. "I did it!" he said happily.

Maxilocks 08-08-2009 05:45 AM

Practical bit, YAY! Fyo watched their Transfiguration professor intently, taking in every action of his - he wanted to do this right, when the time came. Which came soon enough, too. Birdie feather time!

KeywordWordPlumexer. Fyo raised his wand, that nifty little thing, and concentrated on a bird feather. A canary feather, to be more exact. "Plumexer!"

It took several moments to make him realize nothing was happening. GAH! He tried again, but once more there was no result. More patiently now, he gave the spell a third try, and TADA! The feather appeared! This was awesome. Fyo scooped the feather before it fell to the ground, but something was bugging him, now. The third year raised his hand, looking slightly thoughtful.

"Professor, could you please explain something to me?" he asked politely. "I've seen witches and wizards conjure objects out of nowhere. That means you can conjure things with magic. But conjuring in not the same as making vanishing objects re-appear, is it, sir?"

And what about these feathers, one of which he was now holding? Were they conjuring them out of nowhere, or had they already been present in the classroom? Explanation needed, yayYAY!

DuckyLinJi 08-08-2009 11:24 AM

Lyra had been seated in the middle of the classroom, listening to what the other students where saying about Gamp law thing and the professor praised or corrected them. Lyra didn't follow it all nor did she really cared but still she listened carefully. Maybe when she got a bit older she would understand.

Hearing that the professor was going to demonstrate how to conjure a feather, Lyra shifted a bit to her right so that she could see past the person that was sitting before her. She muttered a "wow" and immediatly she had a vision of her conjuring up money..loaaads of money, Lyra liked money but she probably couldn't because of the "Law"

Oooh? they could try for their own? how cool! Lyra had started to really like and enjoy the Transfiguration classes. 'maybe i should scratch charms off my favorite list and make it transfiguration?'. The first year grabbed her wand from her wristholster and held it up. She closed her eyes so that she could concentrate better on a bird's feather. It was harder than she thought, her mind where full of thoughts and images. Trying her best to shove those thoughts away and focusing on a canary feather she slowly started to picture a feather, it became more visible as the other thoughts sort of faded away and at that point she knew she had to say the incantation. She made a almost invisible swish of her wand and said "Plumexer!" and nothing of course happened.

Ok another try, she pictured a canary feather in her mind's eye , she raised her wand a bit and said the incantation. Opening her eyes, she saw that a canary feather was falling down and Lyra was too amazed that it had actually worked that she forgot to catch it and it fell on the desk. She looked at it, her mouth a bit open in a 'woah' sort of expression and she looked up grinning proudly.

The small Slytherin felt a rush come through her, she mostly felt like that when she had achieved something but that feeling became a bit too strong today and she accidentely flicked her wand making, oddly enough, one of the chair's legs dissapear. There was a loud *bang* and the first year was lying on the floor, obviously lost her balance.

Conjuring a feather, that should be pretty easy for her to do, yes? It should be, seeing that she was nearing graduation and would soon enter the big, bad adult wizarding world. She craned her neck and watched as the professor demonstrated the correct wand movement and incantation. Sure enough, it did indeed seem easy enough, but she still just might manage to mess it all up anyway.

When it was time for her to conjure, she raised her wand, closed her eyes, and focused on a pretty white feather with all her might. She was thinking of the color of Charlotte's feathers, of course. When she had a clear picture in her mind, she opened her eyes, twisted her wand a bit, then spoke the incantation. "Plumexer!" Instantly, the feather she'd pictured shot from her wand and fluttered into her hands. She head it up and smiled at it, pleased with what she'd conjured.

Attention drawn from the feathers to a boy's question, Professor Svensson gave the Gryffindor boy a small smile before beginning to answer the question. "Conjuring objects from nowhere and making vanished objects re-appear are not quite the same, but generally they are regarded as such," he said slowly. "Most people think of them as one and the same, due to their sharing many incantations. For example, if I wanted to conjure a chair, I'd use the same spell as if I wanted to make a chair I'd vanished re-appear. The difference is that a conjured chair would eventually disappear, whereas the chair I'd made re-appear would remain intact." Hmm... Lars could ramble, it seemed. "Does that make sense?"

Lars's head jerked around at the loud bang of someone falling. Eyes widening, he hurried over to the scene of the accident, not quite sure what had happened. All he knew was that there was a first year on the floor, and a desk and part of a chair that he had apparently missed when he was vanishing all his furniture.

"Are you alright?" he asked kindly, holding out a hand to help the girl up. He would figure out how there was still a chair and a desk later--for now, student safety was the most important thing in his mind. Because of course a little girl was more important than a three-legged wooden chair.

Conjure bird feathers? Well, that sounded like fun.

Reese stood up from the ground, wishing now that they had a desk to sit in. Desks were way more comfortable than sitting on the floor. She wiped the wrinkles from her skirt and then she took her wand out of her pocket. She just stood there watch Professor Svensson teach them how to correctly conjure the feather. Once he was done, she waited for some of the people around her to start before she did.

Focusing her mind on a bird feather, she said the incantation, "Plumexer." Twisting her wand ever-so-slighty, just like the Professor did, a feather appeared and she caught it with her hand that wasn't holding her wand. She did it!

William had listened quietly while professor Svensson spoke and gave answers out, making a note to write everything down when he was ready and more awake. He watched fascinated as the professor then went on to conjure a feather out of no where which was actually somewhere. It was still confusing for him to think about but he knew better than to say anything.

Flicking his wrist, his wand came out of its nifty little holster and he took several deep breaths to prepare himself. Canary feather, canary feather, canary feather he thought to himself, clearly picturing a canary feather in his mind. "Plumexer" he said, his mind utterly focused on the feather in his mind. Nothing appeared except for a small yellow spot which drifted to the ground. "Ok, trying again." he muttered, taking a dueling stance for no reason.

"Plumexer!" he said with more force in his voice, his hand inches away from his wand. This time a yellow canary feather fluttered into his hand, making him grin. "Cool." he said softly, looking up to Svensson for further instruction. Gripping the feather tightly in his hand his minds eyes continued holding that image of a smallish yellow feather, glistening in its yellow awesomeness.

Cedric sneaked from his place to Reese, She performed the spell well. So they need to conjure feathers. But is it only feathers that they can conjured? What if a rooster instead. Well, He needs to do what they are told so.

Then he whispered to Reese, "Nice work, Reese" He murmured hoping that Prof Ssvenson wouldn't mind talking to her cause well, its just a whisper and all. Then he need to focus on his own to conjure a feather too.

"Plumexer" uttered Cedric clearly. Then he wait till a feather appears. He looks around wistfully full of hope that he can conjured things. Then slowly, a yellow, tiny feather: It kinda looks like a chick's feather. Well, at least he tried and he conjured one but can't keep to complain, "Aww.. why my feather looks like a chick's"
