As soon as Anna finished describing just why the owl was her favorite (or actually one of her favorite animals), she headed towards the center of the room. She needed a partner, though. Locating one in crowded classes were always sort of on the difficult side. It always seemed that everyone she came across already had a partner. Near her, two Ravenclaw girls were partnering up, so she slid past them and into a different area of the classroom. "Excuse me, do any of you still need a partner?" she asked.

Elizabeth blinked as Professor Svensson told them to finish up their work so they could break into partnerships. What were we supposed to have done?, she wondered, staring down at the parchment that had appeared on her desk at some point while she had been lost in her thoughts. Must be stress from studying for NEWTs, not to mention the whole flooding thing, because she never got lost in Transfiguration. Glancing over, she saw that others had written favorite animals on their parchments, so quickly, she scribbled something down on her own.

And then there was the whole issue of partners. She hated partner work, because she never had an easy time with finding a partner on her own. And it was starting to irritate her that neither Robert nor Mari were there to latch on to (Not that she would have expected Robert to really be there, knowing his fairly dismal record with spellwork).

Oh noes. All of the partners were being taken as Demetria kept writing about rabbits. When she looked up there was barely anyone without a partner. Searching, searching, searching. As she moved her way through the center of the crowded room, she heard Anna speak up. "Uhm...I still need a partner, Anna." she walked over to her and smiled.

DOI.

Most of the students were already pairing up and he still didn't have one! Cam looked around the class, helplessly, looking for someone familiar that could have helped him. He glanced at Anna--nuuuuuu someone already stole her! He glanced at Willow, with pitied eyes... no. It was impossible for him to look at her in the face again and NOT cry. Clifford? Ahhh Diane poked chose him already.

"UM. I need a partner," he announced to the class helplessly.

"Oh, hey, Dem!" Anna greeted, turning around to see one of her friends and fellow Gryffindors. "I'd love to be your partner. Thanks!" She smiled at Dem, then motioned towards the center of the room, where they were supposed to head once they'd finished and found a partner. Anna strolled towards the center, then, when she got there, waited around patiently for the lesson to continue.

Lyra sat nervously on her chair, she didn't had a partner yet and was too shy to ask for one, specially an older student. She watched as the other students found partners and silently hoped someone would notice a first year like her.

This was SOOOO hard...

Melanie took the parchment, tapping her fingers on her desk and trying to think of her favorite animal.

Problem was she liked ALOT of animals. They were all just too awesome to pick one...she liked her cat, yeah, but she didn't think that was her favorite animal. He acted like he wanted to kill her a teeeeny bit too much for her liking, even if her could be sweet sometimes. Plus there were just so many other animals to pick from...Probably even some she'd never even heard of.

GRR. She hated having to make a decision like this so quick, but just as the professor was about to say they were almost out of time a thought hit her...

PERFECT!

Excitedly, Melanie grabbed the piece of paper, quickly scribbling down her favorite animal and why in the nick of time.

Hmmm that should do. She dropped her quill back into the ink bottle and proceeded to look around for a partner. Bleh. She just stunk at picking partners. It seemed like before she had a chance to partner up with anyone or even ask they all zipped across the room and snagged a partner real quick-like, before you could even say 'Ahem, hem, anyone need a partner?' or anything else...

"I'll be someone's partner!!" she announced, raising her hand up in the air for the world everyone to see...

Hear ye, Hear ye!

Kiri quickly scribbled one last sentence. She had no idea what her favourite animal was, or if she even had one, but she'd stumbled across a fascinating book on apes in the Library a few days earlier, and some of the remarkable things written in it had clearly impressed her enough to remember them.



Kiri put her quill aside and stood up. Lots of people were still looking for partners, but a quick glance told her that most of the older students seemed to be taken already. She made a quick decision and stepped up to a small girl with a Slytherin badge who was sitting two tables away from her. "Hi," she said friendly. "I'm Kiri. Do you, er, have a partner yet?"

Lyra just started to play with her quill, twirling it in her hand when she saw a girl walking towards her. She placed the quill down on the table and looked at her. She looked familiar, wait wasn't that the girl she tried to help in the great hall? maybe.. Lyra couldn't remember there had been too much confusion.
"hey"she said back. "no i don't have a partner yet" she smiled. "oh and i'm Lyra" she quickly added.

Elizabeth sighed as everyone around her found partners. Granted, most of them were actually actively looking, yelling out that they needed a partner or whatever, and she was just sitting there. But she wasn't really the type of person to jump up and make a scene or anything, except when she was on the Quidditch pitch with her bat. Or teasing her friends.

Idly flicking the corner of her parchment, she glanced once more around the room. Maybe if she got desperate, she'd start really looking. But it was definitely easier when your partners were given to you. Like in the Arithmancy class. Walk into class and find out you're in x group.

"Do you want to partner with me, then?" Kiri asked, just to make sure. The professor had said older students, after all. But Kiri wasn't even sure there were enough sixth and seventh years around to pair up with the younger students. And she'd rather not look for one for the next ten minutes - usually she ended up asking a person just after they'd found a partner.
Professor Svensson would certainly make himself known if there was a problem.

Lyra nodded her head "yea sure!" she said happily. 'Wow that was fast' she thought, happy that she had found a partner so fast. Well the other way around, the girl had walked up to her..... but anyone would get the point. "the professor wouldn't mind right?" she asked remembering what the professor had said about older students pairing with younger students, but that hadn't meant 7th year with 1st year right? surely not. "i mean you look older than me" said Lyra looking at the girl again, she did look older than a first year.... maybe a fourth? third?

Nia gave a groan. Why did Professors insist on classes where it was necessary to pair up? It was annoying. And somehow her brother always ended up sitting right beside her with puppy dog eyes. Eurgh. That was simply the worst. Maybe this time she should take the prerogative and actively find someone to work with.

She scanned the room. And then she spotted a quiet friendly face. And one that was older too, so that fitted Professor Svensson's other requirement. "You got a partner yet Elizabeth?" Nia asked from partway across the room. "Else I'm free..." she left at that, in case the elder girl was really waiting for someone else.

He was soooo wrapped up in his own, lonely little world that it took a whole minute or so to realise he'd just been poked. Poked? Who was poking him? Couldn't people see he just wanted to be left ALONE?

... oh, but class.. BLEH.

"Sure," Clifford said blankly with a shrug of his shoulders. "Partners. Right. Okay.."

Stupid class.

As she finished her idle scanning of the room, Elizabeth heard her name, and turned again to see Nia. Calling from across the room, which made her hide a grin. Standing up, she made her way over to the younger girl, taking her now dog-eared parchment and school bag with her, just in case. "As a matter of fact, no, I don't have a partner yet," she said when she got nearer. "We've missed you on the pitch," she added idly, before slipping into a seat. "Trying to avoid someone?"

"Erm... I'm not sure," Kiri said truthfully. "But if it's a problem, I'm sure he'll make us pair up with older students." She pulled a face. "I hope not, though."
She looked around. Those of her classmates who had already found partners were doing pretty much the same thing Kiri was doing - that is, standing around aimlessy, chatting idly with each other.
True, she could see that most of the pairs consisted of an older student and a younger one, which was slightly worrying, but she didn't really fancy searching for another partner, not right now, at least.

Kiri turned to the girl again, aware that she'd said something. "Hmm? Er, sorry... Yes, I'm a third year. Maybe Professor Svensson has something complicated planned. Something, you know, that only the older students can do. If so, I guess we'll have to split up and look for new partners... Let's move to the centre anyway," she added with a shrug and strolled into the middle of the room to the other pairs.

OOC: And I think we should go easy on the chatting now. Dunno if we're allowed. Sorreeeeh. *blushes*

"I'll be someone's partner!" Of course, since that was the assignment. Cela stood up and made her offer cheerfully, hands relaxing on her hips as she looked around the class to see who would want to partner with her.

Nia smiled as she saw her team mate head towards her, parchment and bag in tow. "Cool, I'd be honoured to partner you, in that case," Nia said with a smile - glad she had someone she knew as a partner. It'd make things easier, whatever they would be doing with parchments and favourite animals. And Nia now had a distinct feeling she'd made a bit of an awkward choice. She hoped Elizabeth wouldn't have to guess what she'd chosen or something, as it wasn't the most obvious creature to try and describe.

"Missed me?" Nia asked, honoured that Elizabeth had said so. She looked up to all the older members of the team. "You've been doing pretty well without me though..." she added, tipping her head sideways thoughtfully. She was only a reserve afterall. "As for avoiding someone...who in particular did you have in mind?"

Jack looked around from person to person as pairs started being formed. All his friends were being snatched up! EEEK! That was what he got for daydreaming in class about koalas and all their awesomeness.

He spotted Cela nearby, and quickly hurried over to her. With his long strides, he was by her side in seconds. "I'll be your partner if you're still offering," he said with a smile.

"Of course!" Celandine grinned at Jack and offered him a high five along with a cheerful, sweet smile.

She couldn't WAIT to see what they would be doing! She looooved Transfiguration.

"Hey Jules, I haven't seen you since my birthday party, how are you?" She was waiting for the next direction in the task.

Lyra listened to what she was saying and she did had a point. "i just hope that it won't be too complicated so that we both don't know what to do" she giggled nervously. She stood up from her chair after placing her stuff safely back in her schoolbag and followed the other girl to the middle of the classroom, waiting curiously for further instructions from the professor.

It seemed as if most of the students had partners by now. That meant it was time to move on.

"So now that you have a partner and a favorite animal, I want you and your partner to discuss your animals and agree on which animal you both would like to borrow a characteristic of," Professor Svensson said, pulling out his wand. Next came the fun part. "When you've decided that, pick a characteristic of your animal that you wish you could have for a short time. For example, a bird's wings or an elephant's trunk or . . . or a moose's antlers."

Elizabeth grinned at Nia's response to her admitting she didn't have a partner. "Guess we now don't have to worry about the professor finding partners for us, now do we?," she commented. Of course, she had no idea what favorite animals had to do with partner work, or Transfiguration, for that matter. Unless they were going to have to Transfigure something into said animal, but she didn't think Professor Svensson would do that to the poor firsties and everything. Since physical transfiguration was pretty difficult and all, especially when animal forms were involved.

She smiled again as her comment about Quidditch was questioned. "Well, having bludgers intentionally flung at you during tryouts tends to make a team stay on their toes. And I'm sure Willow occasionally wishes you were there. Even though we've been doing well." She shrugged as the younger girl questioned her assumption she was avoiding someone. "I don't know. You just kind of looked like you were. Where as I was rapidly getting irritated at Robert and Mari for not being here. So it was an interesting difference." Was Professor Svensson going to continue class any time soon? Apparently, she thought as the professor spoke again, revealing what they were going to be doing.

Upon hearing they needed a partner, Natasha's eyes looked around the room, searching for someone else who was yet also partner less. She looked towards Melanie as she heard her calling out, who she really hadn't talked to in a bazillion years, and standing up, she came over to her desk. "Hey, Melanie, want to be partners?" She asked with a small smile.

Natasha turned to look at the Professor as he spoke, listening to what he had said with rapt attention, before turning back to look at Melanie. SHe wondered why the needed to discuss their favorite animals for Transfiuration, but all the same, she didn't mind too much.
