Watching as the professor seems annoyed, by him vanishing part of his desk. "Sorry..." he mutters. I just can't the hang of this thing...

Walking up to the desk, he decides to try a mouse. Maybe if I do the flick higher then I had it, it will vanish just the mouse. He thinks on his way up to get the mouse. Spotting one that is sleeping, he gently picks it up, trying not to disturb it.

These are definitely cuter then the rats at home. he thinks wryly. Spotting Lettie near him, he smiles at her and sits back down.

Placing the mouse on his desk, it wakes it up, and it stares at him throught those tiny eyes. Suddenly it starts to move. Ahh! Oh dear. Picking it up by it's tail before it runs too far away, and placing it back on his desk. He quickly flicks his wrist in the circular motion Evanesco

Jumping in surprise that he hadn't vanished anything but the mouse, he grins. Well done, I knew you could do it. he murmurs to his wand, not even considering it was him able to do it.

Oh for the love of Merlin, Dominic should know better than to daydream in class. Especially now that he was a sixth year and starting his NEWT levels; cause these were like supposed to be the important days of his life. Though truth be told, it wasn't really his fault that the beginning of the lesson was basic boring 'book' stuff. It was the practical portion that interested him.

Actually, the Hufflepuff had been so dazed that it took him till now to realize that Professor Pierce was not teaching the class, but some new guy. A guy who he missed completely of catching his name. Ugh... He would have to bug Vanessa later to catch him on these new names.

Speaking of Vanessa, why had she just handed him a mouse? Oh right. Eying the front of the room and the other students, he sighed softly. They were supposed to be vanishing them or something. At least that's what the charm people were saying sounded like. E-Van-es-co. It had sounded like the word 'Vanish' almost, sort of.

Gummy worms? How come the younger kids got candy? That is just what he needed was for first and second years to be running around the Hufflepuff Common Room hyped up on sugar because of this new guy. NOT.

Uh... What was the wand movement? Dominic looked around for someone to maybe help him. He was a flipping SIXTH YEAR; who should have been paying attention and not daydreaming about the drama in his life. Such as Evolette McKenna having kissed him or his current status with the Ravenclaw Captain or the house points or...



... Or snotty first years thinking they could just enter classes when they felt like it. Dominic gave the girl a look of disapproval as the professor docked two more points from Hufflepuff, which was already sadly down in the negatives for reasons he knew not. Except that the new Ricco kid lost five points at the feast; but the other 25 were a mystery.

Yes, Dominic had much to dramatics in his life. No wonder he completely missed the demonstration on the wand movement. And the new Professor's name.

But ooh... There was Anna Greingoth -- she was head girl, so surely she would help him. Besides, from the looks of things she had already vanished her mouse. Just a little wooing was necessary, yes.

"Yo, Anna!" Dominic called quietly to get her attention. Wait a minute! Where did his mouse go!? In his procrastination, he had not even realized that his own mouse sort of ... disappeared and was not cowering in the corner, afraid most likely of meeting the same fate as his brothers and sisters.

Right. Back to the wand movement though. "Do you mind coming over to help me out with this vanishing thing?" He asked innocently enough and tossed her a charming, wry grin too.

Lilly dicided that she had gone long enough without trying so dicided to get another animal. she picked out the cutest little frog ever and brought it back to her desk to try. this time she played with it for 5 minutes and then practiced. it worked on the first time to her great pleasure

Okay, so now Jake had a nice bowl of melted gummy worms (he kept a bowl in his bag... don't ask) but it seemed the more he tried to melt them, the less that seemed to come out of it.

"Evanesco!" Jake cried at the gummy word, yelling out in indignation as the gummy worm completely disappeared. "No way! That's not mean to happen!" he pouted.

Five gummy worms left... and a big bowl of delicious tasting sugarry gloop. He wouldn't mind sacrificing a few more, but he hoped these weren't going to vanish as well.

Five incantations later, and they were gone. Not melted. Not eaten. Gone.

How typically UNfair!

"Hmmph," Jake sat back in his seat and pouted, occasionally grazing, so to speak, from the bowl in front of him.

He'd got the spell right, how unfair!

"Ouch, my mouse just bite me hard" she told the professor.

Grace quickly grabbed a gummy worm and did the magic, "Evanesco!", but nothing happened. She'd heard the teacher saying to another student to do magic confidently, she tried to do so. The worm looked a bit paler. Or she was too willing to see it so, that she'd imagined. She panicked as others got it on the first try, or at least vanished half of it. She took a deep breath and tried again. When she looked, the worm was nowhere to be seen. She'd done it! Her very first intended magic. Satisfied with herself and convinced nothing was wrong with her, she hurried to take another worm.

"my name is Lilly if you didn't catch it earlier. my vanishing is going quite well. i have done a gummy worm, a mouse, and a frog already. it seems quite simple." she said in a i-know-everything tone. "sorry that was quite rude of me to say when others are having trouble." she said "sir." she added quickly to avoid him docking points.

Anna thought about getting up and getting another creature, but she'd already vanished a mouse, a frog, and a snail. There were gummy worms available, but those might be a bit dangerous for Anna to tempt. After all, there would be that issue of her struggling to not eat the poor thing before she could cast the spell on it. Hmm...wonder if the mouse she'd made vanish was somewhere in the non-being eating one of the gummy worms that had vanished? Did they end up together? What about her snail? Was it dead afterall, or was it somewhere in that other dimension crawling around at .5 miles per hour?

When she became aware of a nearby voice, Anna snapped out of her thoughts and turned to see that Jack dude. At least she had his name down pat now. No more Mack, Pack, Quack or whatever. "Shhhh," she hissed, flailing her right arm a bit. "I know... I'm just sort of hoping he actually wasn't dead." Anna smiled at Jack, then sat back to give him some room to accomplish that spell he was working on.

Lars walked quickly over to the first year. "Are you bleeding?" he asked. He did not even bother to ask why the first year girl had a mouse. Whether or not she was bleeding was more important.

Lars Svensson gave the girl a look. "Congratulations. Perhaps you should try the worm and try not to be pert," he said, accio-ing a snail and setting it on Lilly's desk before heading back to check on the first year who had been bitten.

Lilly raised her hand looking a little confused "im sorry sir did you say pert? i am not quite sure what that means." she said meekly.

as she waited she started to work on her snail. it took her a number of times because the shell wouldn't go away. but eventually she got it.

Mr. Snail had gone, and Raiden suddenly felt very sad about it. Mr. Snail.... had he wanted to be vanished? The professor had said it didn't cause them any discomfort. But... well, if it hurt them, or anything else, the professor surely wouldn't have the students using them, would he... tapping the desk, he muttered 'Scourgify' at Mr. Snail's goo-trail before going to retrieve something else to vanish.

"Maybe... another snail," he murmured, peeking in the box. "Mice... might be too hard."

And fuzzy. They were too fuzzy for vanishing! He took another snail. As he walked back to his desk, he held the squishy creature up in front of his eyes and stared at it.

"You can be... Mrs. Snail."

Lars sighed. He did not want to bother the healer and her intern with a flow of students during his lesson. So instead of sending the first year to the hospital wing straightaway, Lars conjured a band-aid for the girl and gave it to her. "Put that on your finger, and I'll take you to the hospital wing after class. I'll be headed in that direction anyway."

Tiffany moved the parchment she was taking notes on and placed down her gummy worm. Her heart hammered against her chest as she pulled her unicorn hair wand out of her pocket. Tiffany smiled, wandering what her muggle father would think if he saw her about to perform her very first spell. "Evanesco," She muttered, flicking her wrist in a tight circle as instructed to do so. The gummy worm flickered before vanishing completely. "I did it!" Tiffany cried, before clapping her hand to her mouth. Embarrasing or what?! Her pale cheeks turned a deep scarlet as several students turned her way.

Jack chuckled and shook his head. "I doubt you had an advantage or anything--a dead snail is probably just as hard to vanish as a live one, if that was what you're worried about," he assured her. "May he rest in peace," he added solemly before grabbed a frog out of the box at the front of the room. He was all set and ready to try a bigger challenge.

He set the frog down on his desk and waved his wand once more. "Evanesco!" he muttered, watching in delight as the frog vanished again. He was getting good at this! Although, he wanted to be sure that he had vanished him completely, like the snail, so he swatted the air in front his desk and...

he felt something hard and slimy and definitely, definitely INVISIBLE connected with his hand. Already in mid-swing, it was too late to stop his arm and he heard a ribbit as the invisible frog went flying off the desk--but in what direction it was flying, Jack could only guess. OH NOES! He had swatted the frog off his desk! He could have killed it!

There was a sick, slimy, smacking noise as the frog connected with something--and that something happened to be the cheek of Head Girl Greingoth. The spell had worn off only milliseconds before the frog made contact, and Jack clasped a hand in horror over his mouth.

Oh lord, she was gonna kill him. Yup. He was dead. She'd murder him on the Quidditch pitch during tryouts or something, just to make it seem like an accident. He was a goner.

Hearing her name being called from across the room, Anna glanced up to see Dominic Denton, struggling with...what was he working with? From where she was seated, Anna couldn't see a thing. He was asking for help, though, and honestly, who was Anna to deny someone any help---escpecially someone who looked like that. Smiling and nodding, Anna stood from her seat and headed over to where Denton was seated. "Not at all, Denton," she said, addressing him by his last name, just as she'd done on the train. She sat down in the desk oppostite him and glanced at his desk once again. "Sooo, erm...what exactly are you attempting to vanish here?"

She put the band aid on and said "thank you professor, I am sorry"

"oh ok my appologies sir i didn't mean to be so." she said very apologetically.

He'd been thinking and eating for a while, and the sugar was starting to make Jake restless. "Professor," he asked, his hand raised. "I don't know what to try and vanish now," Jake explained. To him it was to do with morals and the like. "Ya see, I managed the gummy worms, loads of them... but I tended to melt them first, and I don't want to accidentally melt a snail. Or roast a mouse."

And I'm a vegetarian, so I'm not getting rid of a mouse that might want to live.

"I don't really feel right vanishing a creature, and the gummy worms are SOOOOOO TEMPTING! I'm not allowed to have sugar, see?" he explained, scooping another dribble of sugarry gloop out of his bowl with his finger. "So now what?"

Cam frowned as his wiggling gummy worm... stopped wiggling. "It's deaded now." He put down his head as if a funeral had just happened and then let out an odd smile--as if he was trying to smile but just couldn't. It was because he couldn't resist the urge of just taking a bite, just a small itsy bitsy teeny weeny bite. But he guessed the professor would have preferred them learning the spell instead of eating the gummy worms. Awweeee. He looked around and noticed people were having trouble with the mice.

Thank Merlin he didn't have to deaaaaal with those creatures. He went back to his gummy worm and practiced the spell again. He hoped he would get it right this time. Wait, no. He KNEW he was going to get it right this time. "Evaaaaanesco! Evanesco? Please? EVANESCO. OH C'MON ALREADY," he started flicking his wand lyke, a LOTT. After he finally calmed down, he started again.

"Evanesco!" He did the wand movement and then... "Yesss! Yes! DISAPPEAR YOU STUBBORN WORMMMM." His eyes started twitching and he made the pose of Peter Pan--hands on hips, body facing left and slightly looking up, and eyes looking to the right.

He immediately looked back at the worm that he had now hated because of it's inability to disappear earlier but now... even if it was so slow, now it was starting to disappear. "YaaaAAaayyyy." But wait... NO. It couldn't possible be!

Right when it was almost finished, the gummy worm had stopped disappearing. It was lyke 3/4 of the way already... Cam went silent. He made the last eyetwitch. Stupid. Idiotic. Stubborn. Delicious. Looking. Gummy. Worm.

"Hmm...," Anna simply replied, trying hard not to think about her poor, dead snail. Besides, it may or may not actually be dead. Ohhh, and not only that, it may be stuck in that weird, non-being dimension until the professor decides the class is ready for conjuring. End of the year, he said, yes? Anna thought that was what she heard. By then, it wouldn't matter if the animals were dead or alive when they'd vanished! They'd have starved by the end of the year.

She turned back to Denton, waiting for hiom to decide where his creature had gone off to. "Have you lost it?" she asked, glancing around on the floor. "What exactly did you have?" She stood and surveyed the area, waiting for a frog to come hopping along or some mouse to come scurrying by.

"I don't---..."

SMACK.

Anna gasped and clamped the palm of her head onto her cheek. What was the frazzling deal with ooey, gooey things getting all over her today? She removed her hand and studied the slimy little frog she'd pulled away. She held her hand around the frog, so it couldn't hop away, which she could tell it was trying to. "Who is your owner?" she asked, as if the frog could answer.

Fritzera.

No doubt...

Taking a deep breath and counting backwards from ten, Anna strolled back over to Fritzera, grabbed his hand, and placed the frog gently inside. She finished that little act by closing his palm around it, so it wouldn't hop off---or worse, fly off via wand once again. "Your frog, Fritzera," she flatly said. Not saying anything else, she turned and headed back to Denton.

"Shall I go and retrieve you another creature, Denton?" she asked. "If I'm to assist you with this, then you'll need to provide a creature to work with. That is, unless, you're aware of where your's has headed off to?"

Lucy grabbed something randomly from one of the boxes. It was a small brown mouse. She smiled and walked back to her seat, taking out her wand, and pointing it at the little mouse, who slept peacefully in her hand. "Evanesco..co!" She said pointing it at the mouse. It moved a little, but did not vanish into thin air like it was supposed to. "Ecanseco." She said again, but this time the mouse vanished, leaving a smile on Lucy's pleased face.

Kevin sighed frustrated and said "Evanesco" again with the wrist movement and hoped that he was doing it right

Well, this was quite a dilemma the boy faced. Lovely, now Lars had to find something else for him to vanish. Lars went to the front and began rummaging around in his box. That would not do, he did not want that damaged... aha! Lars pulled a plastic bookend out of his box and brought it over to the boy by the window.

"Here. Try vanishing this, then," Lars said simply, setting the bookend on the boy's desk.
