Caroline was a social FAILURE. But she was NOT an idiot. 'I've been glad to know you' implies that he who says it is NOT planning on knowing you anymore.

And that sent her into a sort of panic.

"But- but-" she stammered, but she couldn't seem to get past that.

Ethan blinked at her, wondering what she was trying to say.

"Butterbeer? Sure." He gestured at the barkeep who came over with a couple butterbeers.

"Hungry, Cari?"

Butterbeer?

"No you idiot!" Cari snapped.

And then she took a deep breath, and got a hold of herself. Butterbeer!

Almost had a hold of herself.

Another deep breath then. "But what has possessed you to leave?" she asked very slowly, and deliberately. "Isn't that what you meant by 'I've been glad to know you'?"

Idiot?

Looking mildly offended, Ethan silently opened one bottle and then the other, sliding one towards her.

"Well, I've been thinking about it, I'm not sure if I will yet. I just... it might be a good idea to get out of the country for a while." That was true. Some of the scrolls lost in the flooding were priceless and the ministry would not be much impressed. "And I'm still on probation, which severely limits my options for classes." And for self-defence against a certain old man.

"It is what I meant." Ethan agreed after a moment's thought. "I can't say that I'm used to people being overly concerned about it." Nor was he used to actually saying anything about it before leaving. He'd usually just pick up and go.

Cari caught her bottle easily, but didn't think to drink from it.

"Not that I don't understand your inclination to travel, I certainly do, but but travelling is one thing, leaving all together is something different." She herself had sat in a teashop down the road and told her oldest friend she wanted to go anywhere but home, hadn't she? "And probation isn't permanent. Uncomfortable, yes, but temporary. And if you leave in the middle of it, it'll look terrible for you."

Well that was just sad. Not that Cari had many friends herself, it's just a little nice to feel as though you'll be missed when you leave. "I am concerned. As much for myself as for you, admittedly, which is particularly selfish of me; I want you to stay because I'd be unhappy if you resigned. Granted I wouldn't want you to stay if you were unhappy here either."

A large part of her didn't want to lose the first person who understood her social quirks. But she'd lose him anyway if he started wishing he were somewhere else.

"I don't much mind how it looks." Ethan answered. It wasn't like it was a fair probation anyway. He sipped his butterbeer thoughtfully.

"You want me to stick around?" He wasn't quite saying he would, it was just that he was surprised to hear the sentiment. His two oldest friends, Gavin and Axe never questioned when he got the wanderlust or disappeared.

"It isn't that I'm unhappy exactly." Well, she'd seen the display in her office after all.

Did he think she would be happy? Pack his bags? Arrange interviews for him? Short of sitting on top of his luggage and sulking she was pretty much content to get in his way however possible. "Do you have ANY idea what spending time with Iliana and Alessia constitutes of? I never attended a slumber party as a child, having done so now, I don't feel like I missed out. And they are perfectly nice to me," she looked at him pathetically. "You are the only person I can just sit and BE with. No gossipping or pillowfights or flinging of mudmasks."

Alright she knew that Less and Kazimeriz were on one side and Ethan were on the other. And Caroline? Squarely in the middle. She liked Less well enough, and Kazimeriz... well there was some history that she had to consider. Granted Kazimeriz had not given his own history with Ethan any consideration at all, thank you very much. "If I suggested you ignored them, it wouldn't help at all, would it?" she guessed.

Ethan offered Cari a slightly wistful smile at mention of Iliana. They had almost been friends before that whole mess with Kazimeriz and Less had happened, but Ethan hadn't wanted to get in the way of her friendship with Alessia Lupa. "I'm not entirely convinced that gossip has a point. It is merely propaganda for the masses." Ethan reached forward and tapped Cari's untouched butterbeer gently.

"I did try the ignoring thing. And I do ignore him as much as I can, but when every word that escapes his mouth is goading, and every look a challenge..." Ethan shrugged, "I suppose I'm what he made me."

Victoria walked into the three broomsticks and ordered her butterbeer, she found a seat in the corner.

Isabella walked into the three broomsticks, sat down at the bar, and ordered a butterbeer. In the corner she saw a girl looking at her and went over and sat down next to her. "Hi, Victoria?"

She looked up to see Isabella, "Hey, how are you? Do you want to join me?" she sipped her butterbeer.

"I'd love to, thanks!" she said as she sat down next to her.

"So how are you? What year are you in again" she couldn't remember, she sipped her butterbeer.

"I'm going into my third year, and you?" she said. "By the way, do you prefer Vicky or Victoria?"

"I prefer Izzie."

"I am a first year!" she said as she sipped her drink, "I don't mind which" she smiled at her.

"Oh wow! What's your favorite class?" she asked her as she took a sip of her butterbeer.

"I am loving Muggle studies at the moment, I am quite good at Herbology and Potions" she sipped her drink.

"That sounds interesting. I wish I was any good at Potions. I love Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. Oh, that reminds me, I have a paper to write on Dementors for DADA, I gotta go, but it was really great meeting you! I hope we get to hang out again soon!" She hurried out of the three broomsticks, sad to have to leave her new friend.

"Bye Isabella!" she decided to finish her drink and go back to the castle, she walks to the door and out into the street.

Thomas entered the Three Broomsticks miserably. The reason why he's miserable was because of yesterday night it was so... depressing. The first year took a sip from his Butterbeer, as he was drinking it he thought how did he get to so much trouble. After three minutes Thomas opened his book and began reading random pages from it.

Victoria walked into the three broomsticks, walked up to the bar and ordered a butterbeer. She saw Thomas and walked up to him, "Hey Thomas, can I join you?"

"Yeah, sure," he said grumpily but he was happy to see his friend so he gave her a little smile. He took another sip from his drink and ordered one for Vicky. "So erm... how was yesterday night depressing or just weird?" he asked as joke but he didn't smile

"I am sorry, I know that you love me!" she sipped her drink, "How is your leg and neck?"

"Better I guess but I can't touch them because they're still sore," said Thomas looking at his leg. "So how is Mr. Jerky or is his name Kevin?" said Thomas making a stupid tone.

"Kevin is fine thank you!" she snapped, she wished he was like this, he was one of her good friends.
