Reese raised her hand. "You hit Bludgers with the Beater's bat," she answered. She nodded when the Professor told them to get up and grab a bat. She stood up from her seat and walked over to the box and grabbed herself a bat. Then, she walked back to her seat and sat down.

Aaron walked over and grabbed a bat. Uh- oh. He was a Chaser. Not a Beater. This will be his first time hitting a bludger. He then examined the bat and returned to his seat.

Lucy smiled. Yay! They were gonna hit bludgers, how exciting. She stood up and walked over to the the box, picking up a bat and returning to her seat ready to hit something. Of course, she had enough control not to hit someone.

William got up shyly and walked over to the box and picked up a bat. Now he was nervous, he had never even played Quidditch before let alone hold a beaters bat. Gulping he walked back to his seat.

Dani jumped up and ran to get a bat. She liked it, but it was kinda heavy. She went back to her seat and started to examine it. It was weird. Short and stubby but she could barely lift it. Hmm... She wasn't very strong though. Her stomach growled loudly. Geez. Maybe she'd have to find something to eat after the lesson. She raised her hand. "What if you accidentally hit someone with one of these during a match?"

Ohhh, she'd earned a point for Gryffindor! Awesome! She smiled at the professor, then left her seat in search of a beater's bat. As soon as she'd gotten one, she took a seat right smack next to Mr. Plymouth Glenn Morgan. He was always a treat to have along in class, that was for sure. Beater's bat gripped tightly in her hand, Anna sat still and waited for the fun to begin.

Oooh, they could grab a bat?

AWESOME! Fyo stood up, enjoying the delicious mix of cold weather and flying lesson, as he half-skipped towards the crate that contained the bats. Pausing when he reached it, he bent down to pick a bat, before returning to his seat with it. Gosh, the thing's heavy.

Herminny got up and grabbed a bat and returned to her seat knowing things were about to get pretty intresting.

A batttt? Ooooh interesting! Cam walked up to the box and picked up one that looked nice and sturdy. They were heaaaavy but he still managed to carry it. He tapped it with his other hand and then headed back to the bench to sit down. How the heck did beaters--preferably WILLOW manage to fly on a broom, carry the heavy bat, and play baseball with the Bludgers aaalll at the same time?! He quite liked being Chaser or a Seeker, but ah well, he had to try it!

Lyra stood up, walking over and grabbing a bat as Professor V asked of them and then went back to her seat and waited for more instructions.

Plymouth hadn't ever actually sat down, so he just walked over to get a bat. He tried to get the oldest, ugliest looking one. You know, the one that no one else would pick? Plymouth always felt bad for things that didn't get picked. So, he picked his poor bat - violent stick - then went to go sit down.

Fyo's mind was beginning to wander to that snowball fight he had had, yesterday eve, with Torin, Karma and Reese. Hey, maybe they could thwack snowballs with these bats! That would be SO awesome. He made a mental note to try that out, preferrably on Torin, later in the week. Tee hee.

Elizabeth blinked as she realized she'd been so focused on watching Willow that she'd missed Professor Vindictus' arrival, as well as some questions. But now everyone was getting bats from the crate, so she got up with a grin and retrieved one. Now she was comfortable, even though the faint thought that some people, if they were there, might be a little scared at her with a beater's bat. But then, it was her position on the team, so of course she should be good at using it.

While the students picked up a bat, Vindictus erected ten bullseye targets at the center of the practice area.



Then he created a vibrant red line on the soggy grass with his wand. Behind the line and in perfect alignment with the targets which were twenty-five feet away, he placed ten red buckets of old Muggle tennis balls.

"Before we practice hitting a controlled object at the stationary targets that you now see before you, I'd like to have a few expert volunteers to demonstrate proper bat techniques so that no one gets conked in the head with an airborne bat. Again, I'm asking for Beaters to volunteer by stepping forward to the line."

AHA! As distracted as she had been trying to control herself, Willow had failed to answer any of the questions, or to even notice Vindictus' arrival. However,when the head of the house told them to go grab a bat, Willow stood up in one swift movement, before making her way towards the precious bats and grabbing one of them.

Curling her fingers tightly around it, and practically bouncing with excitment, the seat year went back to her seat.

Were they going to be hitting bludgers or people? Bludgers, most likely, as she doubted hitting each other with clubs would be allowed. Both worked perfectly fine for her, though, not really. Right? Heh. WHO KNEW? Snicker so it didn't matter.

Cough.

"I'll volunteer, sir" Of COURSE.

Fyo wasn't a beater, but he could be good with a bat. Now, anyway. "Professor, do you have to be on one of the Hogwarts quidditch teams to volunteer?" he asked, raising his hand.

Jack had never really played Beater, and as he walked back to his seat with the Beater's bat in his hand, he wrinkled his dark eyebrows as he tried to picture pelting a giant Bludger at the opposing team with this wooden stick. Hmmm, nopeee, he couldn't really see it. He shook his head, trying to pay attention to the lesson he had been carelessly daydreaming in for the past ten minutes. Oops.

As Vindictus called up Beaters, he looked around to see if any of his Beaters had shown up to the class today. If they had, they were very well hidden, as he couldn't see them anywhere. Ahh, well. He sat back in his seat and watched as the Ravvie captain volunteered immediately. What a surprise. She notoriously one of the most vicious Beaters in the school.

And she was NOT in Gryffindor. What a pity.

Vindictus wasn't surprised that Willow was the first to volunteer and he couldn't help but smirk at her reaction. "Can you show the class how to properly handle and swing a Beater's bat?" he asked and walked over to Fyo. "Have you practiced with the bat before? If you have, then go right ahead and volunteer."

"Yes, sir," Fyo said, nodding. "With quaffles, too." It was snitches that were his weakness - he sucked as a seeker, BIG time. So.. did this mean he was, now, a volunteer? And was he supposed to do the same as Willow?

The third year glanced at the beater's bat in his hands, waiting for Professor Vindictus to give him further instructions.

"Fyo, can you tell the class why you use only one hand when swinging a Beater's bat?" Vindictus asked and wondered why Willow was suddenly quiet. Was it because he didn't give her an immediate target to smash?

Standing up once again, Willow flipped hair to the back in a way that was not far from being haughty and cocky, before standing before the close, but making sure to be a safe distance away from Professor Vindictus and the other Gryffindor boy; she didn't want to hurt them anyone, after all.

"Alright," Started the girl, eyeing Professor Vindictus, and then the rest of the class, "The first thing you need to do is to grip the bat as firmly as you'd like," She did that for demonstration to the class, "But make sure the grip is somewhat relaxed, because you need to take a natural wing at the bludger that comes to you, you know?" And, for demonstration, the sixth year did the proper swing movement but stopped the moment before her bat would connect with the bludger, for there was nothing to hit. Besides, there was the possibility that she could a little too excited, and . . . well, accidents most definitely could happen.

"And I believe that's. In a way, it's all about style. What works for me, may not work for you." Obviously. "But the most important thing is to not let go of your bat. Never. Also, never get too wild with it either, when you are swinging - I've known of people that have ended up hitting themselves full in the face with one." Like, Robert Chambers.

Anna's hand shot into the air, as she was ready and willing to volunteer. Shereally wanted to get back up into the air and play a game of Quidditch as soon as she possibly could! Just talking about the beater and the bats and all the other Quidditch supplies had her all excited. When the professor asked for beaters, though, she lowered her hand and listened to what Fyo and Willow had to say.

Cam clapped his hands wildly when Willow volunteered to teach them the basics for Beating, in possibly both Quidditch and wrestling terms. He really didn't know how girls could be Beaters with their puny appearances, unless they were like Willow--A WOMAN WITH SPUNK. He payed attention to what she said and glanced at his own bat every once in a while. He shuddered when she said that final sentence, eckkk, hitting yourself with your own bat? Both embarrassing AND hurtful!

When the Spunkeh Quidditch Captain was done, he immediately clapped his hands again. "WOOO, go Willow! You RAWKKK, gurrlll!" Cam put his hands up in a fist and cheered her on... despite the fact she hadn't done anything but talk. Ah well, she was still awesome as ever.

Mmyup.

"Greater hitting power. It builds up strength in your wrist, forearm and attack, and reinforces the proper mechanics of the game. Plus, it helps the player maintain his or her balance on the broom," Fyo said simply, hand still sorta raised. After all, who wanted to swing with both hands - and end up on the ground, with a cracked skull?

"Well done, Willow and Fyo! Now I want everyone to warm up by hitting these old Muggle tennis balls at the targets. It's simple. Make sure you keep the tip of your bat even with the yellow target. " Vindictus picked up a bat and walked over to the line. He reached down and grabbed a ball. Then he tossed it into the air and swung his bat.

THWACK!

The tennis ball rocketed towards the target and hit the center before bouncing backwards.

"Your goal is to hit the ball and if you hit the target, then not bad. Let's get started!"

He stepped back to observe the first part of the lesson.
