Celandine was ITCHING for this part to be over. She liked flying HIGH and DANGEROUSLY... which was pretty much why she was here; it was time to learn how to fly dangerously er, safely.

She mounted the broom, keeping her feet flat and firm on the ground, and took a hold of the broomstick. Oooerr... how was she supposed to raise her ha... oh. Let go. She put one hand up. "How high up should our hands go, sir? Does it like... depend on what kind of flying you are doing? Like for your centre of balance and stuff?"

Dani once again found herself looking at her broom. She positioned herself so she was straddling the broom with her hands holding the broom in front of her like she'd hold a baseball bat, right over left. Her feet were still on the ground, and she liked it that way. She looked around at the other students before asking, "Am I doing it right?" The last thing she needed was to do it wrong.

"Huh?!" Broccoli wiggled a finger in his ear. "No I don't want to eat the grass!" Was the professor insane? Seriously Grass? Did he look like a sick cruppy? Sure he was hungry but he could wait until dinner like the rest of the students.

Let's try this again. he thought rubbing his hand on his chest. A second later he put his hand over the broom. "Up!"

This time the broom bounced a few times in the air, then flew to his hand. "Ahah! I'll teach you to smack me in the head..."

He looked over at Vindictus who was yelling something else that came out garbled and funny sounding. He took his cues from the other students and mounted his broom.

Okay, this he could do right? he remembered falling off his broom many times last term because his foot always slipped but perhaps this time it'd be different. With his hand still on the broom he placed his left hand just under the right and held firm, his feet still on the ground. Mounting his broom he kept his feet firmly on the ground gulping slightly.

Plymouth had been pretty quiet most of the lesson. No particular reason, but the passing butterfly had caught his attention....

So, Plymouth mounted his broom after calling it up to him. This part wasn't the hard part (though you couldn't tell that from some of the others in this class). He mounted his broom and then "rode" it (with both feet firmly on the ground) to go stand near Cela. She was probably why he was there anyway... It wasn't like Plymouth gave a care about flying anyway.

"Professor V! Come look at my stance and grip. You like it?"

First flying lesson?? This is going to be fun Sydney thought smirking. She sat on the grass next to the a few students. "Uh Good Morning Prof. Vindictus" Sydney greeted with a smile.

The lesson started & she went to stand to the right side of the broom, "UP!" Sydney said putting her hand over it while looking down. The broom just squirmed on the ground. What??? You better get up sleepy broom Sydney chuckled. "Up!!!" She said firmly and the broom zoomed into her fist. "Oh yeah" She blurted out. Keeping her feet firmly on the ground, Sydney took a deep breath & mounted the broom. "Sir! Is this right?" She said holding her broom.

"It's all about comfort, Cela," Vindictus answered. "Hand position changes based on the type of flying that you're doing, but for the sake of this particular class, I want you to focus on comfort."

He walked over and looked at Plymouth's grip. "Your overlapping grip is like my brother's. Separate your hands by about an inch or two," he said and moved on to the other students.

"Good job, Dani. You, too, William." He looked over at Aden who appeared to be playing follow the leader. "Excellent, everyone. Now for the fun part! To become airborne, gently push off with your feet. To move forward, lean forwards over your broom handle. To slow down, sit up on your broom and pull the handle towards you - just a little bit because if you pull it up too fast, you'll go tumbling backwards. To land, gently nudge the broom handle towards the ground and don't forget to slow down before you touch the grass." Vindictus knew they were itching to fly. "Well, what are you waiting for? Give it a go and start flying!"


OOC: Any first year/older non-Quidditch student who isn't good a flying can participate. Just act as if you were here the entire time. To earn points, you need to be actively (and creatively) participating in flying (at least 7 quality posts). Have fun RPing!

Satine had never gotten on a broom by herself, her mother had always held it while she climbed on, but she had never had to do it all herself. She looked at the broom and firmly said, "Up!" the broom shook a little bit but was obviously playing hard to get...ugh!.... She looked around and noticed that she wasn't the only one with this problem. She tried two more times and nothing. She looked at her broom and said, "O come on sweatheart, make me proud, let's try again, UP!" and as if the broom had understood her sweet plea it rose into her hand.

She mounted the broom slowly. She had flown before and was pretty good at it, or so her mom had said and well she was biased. She placed both hands around the broom firmly but too firm she didn't want to strangle the poor thing and started giving the broom a pep talk...it had worked before after all, "Okay cutey, in a minute, we're going to do some basic flying...neither of us is new to this so let's show them what we got." she finished with a smile and looked around to make sure no one thought she was insane. She didn't think anyone had noticed and waited for the Professor's next instructions, which she listened to intently.

"Okay, let's give it a try," she whispered to her new best friend, for now, the broom, and slowly pushed off to take off from the ground..she kept her fingers crossed the whole time...

He still couldn't hear anything and it didn't seem like Professor Vindictus had noticed. Perhaps Broccoli was a better actor then he thought.

He watched the others gently push off with his feet and he followed suit. He hovered over his footprints in the grass for a moment then heard Professor Vinditcus yell something else. He leaned forward just a little trying to hear better "Pie?! NO I don't want pi-ahhh!"

The broom shot forward and Broccoli quickly sat up, yanking on the broom handle. It bucked like a horse that was spooked by a snake and Broccoli went flying. And just like the spooked horse, the broom went 'running' away straight towards Vindictus.

Broccli bounced, once, twice, thrice then laid there sprawled in the grass like a discarded voodoo doll.

Dani nervously pushed off from the ground, hovering about two feet off the ground. Smiling, she leaned forward and started to fly around in a small circle. Happy that she was doing it, she continued flying around in her little circle. She wondered what her mom would say if she saw her.

As Satine slowly inched into the air, she saw the boy that had been bonked in the head slam forward and bounce three times on the ground before finally stopping. She couldn't help but giggle a little bit but to hide her giggling she leaned forward which made her broom start lunging forward slowly. She felt the lunging forward and over corrected by leaning backwards. Instantly as the professor had warned, her broom did a backwards 360 with her gripping tightly.

Luckily she kept her legs wrapped around it and didn't fall off, but after two backwards 360s, she leaned forward enough to make it stop. She looked at the Professor and smiled, "Well I guess I deserved that small adventure after laughing at someone else." she had stabilized everything and decided to give going forward another try.

She leaned forward, slightly this time, and zoomed forward with a confident "Uh! Na-na-na-na!" and a quick thanks to the broom!

Herminny mounted her broom and put her hands on her broom, right over left with her feet planted firmly on the ground. She wondered if she really needed to be here but then she starteed think about that afternoons quiddich tryouts she was just about sure she did need to be here, not tomention a little refresher could'nt hurt and she really did'nt get all she could of out of this course last year because of her lip and mabe that was what was holding her back. As Vindictus gave the signal Hermiinny slowly pushed off into the air and went up a good 10 ft and started to make sime rounds around the pitch nonchalantly thinking she knew what she was doing, she had done this before. But over confidence was never a good thing and she ended up grashing her brand new broom and she was heading right for the ground but leaned her body back just in time to avoid impact. She was being such a clutz and she knew she was gonna have to calm herself down if she was gonna get anything out of this lessson. Herminny then pulled back and continue to make rounds around the pitch.

He grinned back at Vindictus before frowning slightly. Itching to fly? Well he wasn't too sure on that one. Now that he had mounted the broom his fears were coming back to him and he had to stop and breath again before attempting to try to lift off the ground. His heart was racing and his little inner voice was taunting him.

You can't do this willie, give it up.

"I can too." he muttered to himself.

Please, look at you shaking like a little baby.

"Shush." he whispered, his head down as if talking to the broom. That's all he'd need, for people to find out he talked to himself. Yeah, Mr. Popular, no more like Mr. Weird-o-pants. Sighing he closed his eyes, willing the annoying voice away before opening them, a look of determination on his face. "Okay, let's do this broomy. You like me and I like you, right?" he asked in inanimate object before gently kicking off the ground.

At first he thought he had it as he lifted off the ground, until he realized he was looking down at the sky and up at the ground. "Uh oh..." he muttered as he found himself hanging upside down on his broom. "not good. um..." he began before stopping. Somehow he had kicked way too hard, slipping his foot and making him spin around on the broom instead of actually kicking off.

Great.

Ju;e stood next to her broom and followed instructions. She placed her hand over her broom and said, "UP!" Jule's broom didn't move. She sighed and proceeded to try again.

"UP!" she said more sternly. The broom shook a bit but stayed on the ground. "Grr! Why won't you go up?" shesaid to herself. With nothing else to do, Jule had to try again.

"UP!!" she said again but this time the broom flew over her head. Jule luckily dodged her broom and saw land further from her. "That wasn't supposed to happen." she laugh and went to go retrive her broom. She walked back to her spot and placed the broom on the ground next to her. She placed her hand over it again and said, "UP!" and the broom finally flew into her hand.

"Alrighty then." she smiled. Jule slowly mounted her broom and kicked softly off the floor. She hovered for a bit before flying around for the first tme.

Celandine beamed at Plymouth when he came over and looked at the Professor.

"Comfort. Right." Celandine shifted her hands to a position that felt a little more natural and grinned at Professor Vindictus. "I bet your brother doesn't have as smile as cute as Plymmy's!" Did anyone though? Plymouth's smile was happy-making.

She listened to the instructions and pushed with her feet, hovering happily. This part was fine. She glanced at Plymouth and lifted higher into the air, stopping because of the height restrictions, not because she wanted to. What's this gentle nudging toward the ground business? Celandine had always been of the hurtle-toward-the-ground-and-jump-off-just-in-time-to-avoid-a-grisly-death type of flyer.

Carpets were just easier.

Oh well. Leaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

Plymouth looked down at his hands to where his fingers sort of overlapped. Hm. "But Professor...," Plymouth waddled with the broom still between his legs after the Professor acting as his shadow. "You told Cela that it was about comfort. What if this is comfortable? Oh hey, I wanted to ask, too, what are the chances of me getting a whistle like yours? I was thinking I'd be a good ref like you for the games. It's always good to have a back up. You never know when you might get a bad case of body lice or stomach flu."

Clearly, flying in flying class wasn't exactly a priority. He did like to watch everyone else fly though. Particularly Cela.

Dani was thrilled, she raised the nose of her broom so that she rose in the air. Then she made her mistake. She looked down. "Uh oh." Her vision went black with fear and she fell about six feet to the ground. Leave it to Dani to pass out because she got scared.

Jule turned to see a fellow ravvie falling off her broom. Without thinking and forgetting about fear, she leaned forward on her broom towards the girl. Jule wrapped her legs tight around her broom and streched her arms out. She caught the girl just before she hit the floor. Jule flew back down to the ground and laid the girl on the ground next to her.


"Should I take her to the hospital wing, Professor?" she asked.

Satine saw Dani fall off her broom and zoomed down to the ground as she leaned forward and held on for her life...wow she could really fly when she was worried about a friend...maybe her mom was right about her being able to fly. She helped Jule move Dani and lay her down on the ground, "Professor, Dani has fainted I think...should we call Healer Avalon?"

"She'll be okay. The grass is charmed." Celandine pointed out, tilting her broom slightly to get a better look for curiousity's sake and nearly tipping herself off. She adjusted her grip slightly and found that if she was moving forward it was easier to keep her balance by sliding her hand's forward.

Still upside down William began to rock back and forth gently, on the hopes that he'd right himself up so he could actually get on with the flying lesson. Instead all he got was dizzy and had to stop. The blood was rushing to his head but he wasn't going to give up, get off and start over. No, he had a plan. he was only 6 inches off the ground so carefully he slid one leg off the broom and let it hang. stretching it he felt for the ground, feeling very awkward as he did so and pushed up - or down in his case righting himself up fully.

"Phew." he muttered, his hands glued to the broom stick not letting go for nothing. now what had he said? Oh right, move forward slowly, okay no problem. He did it last term he can do it again, right? Carefully this time he leaned forward ever so slowly, inching the front of the broom down. the broom moved slowly, steadily and he grinned. No problem-o he thought as he slowed down his slow speed by leaning back on his broom until he was upright. It slowed down to a snails speed and he nodded.i

"The grass is charmed so that you bounce," Vindictus explained to the two young Ravenclaw girls as he walked over to Dani. "Healer Avalon isn't needed, so please go back to doing your class assignment." He knelt down and passed a small vial of smelling salts beneath Dani's nose. "Wakey, wakey."

"But I don't want a new puppy..." The words were murmured moments before her eyes flew open. "I fell." She stated. Then she looked at the professor. "I'm not to good at this flying thing." She frowned slightly and looked at the others. Her head hurt a little.

"Now I feel like falling off my broom everytime." she said and mounte her broom again. Jule slowly kicked off the ground and hovered. She tightened her grip and leaned forward and began flying around. She enjoyed the sensation of flying around and feeling like a bird. Her hair began going all over the place but Jule didn't care.

The thing about it was that the bouncy grass was almost as thrilling a prospect as flying like a lunatic was. How much did you bounce anyway? Could you launch-bounce yourself back on to your broom? That would be cool!

Celandine watched William curiously and decided to try a barrel roll herself. But how to grip the broom so that she could swing up again? And did the entire broom need to turn or did she turn around the broom?

She decided to try swinging around it, which meant momentum was needed, right? Okie dokie. She picked up some speed and crossed her legs under the broom, just below her knees. She pulled herself into a sharp turn and used the momentum to swing around the broom, having to grab hold of the stick tightly after making a full turn and nearly over shooting it. Hmm.

She giggled. Now THAT would be fun to do up high! She did it again, this time getting a little too close to the ground and thrusting her arm at the grass or else her face would have trialed the bouncing thing. As it was her arm bounced up and the momentum sent Celandine and her broom hurtling toward Plymouth.
