The Dueling Arena is a large, open spaced room with numerous raised platforms for you to practice your wand work and hone your dueling skills. Challenge a friend or practice on your own with the number of dummies placed in the room. Please read the rules below, understand them and abide by them.

RULES

1. Under no circumstances are Unforgiveable Curses to be used or any spell that will cause permanent damage to an opponent (eg. Sectumsempra, Fiendfyre etc).

2. Please do not RP intent for your opponent, an example of this is shown below;

Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light and it hit Copernicus in the chest and he fell to the floor unconscious. (Please refrain from doing this, otherwise I will be forced to delete your post).

A better option is shown below;

Plymouth pointed his wand at Copernicus and shouted the incantation, "Stupefy." There was a flash of light, heading in Copernicus' direction. (This gives Copernicus an opportunity to either block the spell or move out of the way or if he is so inclined to let his brother stun him, then he could take the fall

).

3. If you intend to show a little creativity and make up your own spells, which I don't mind so long as you leave an ooc comment at the end of your post describing what the spell is and what it does. (Please keep it as real as possible thank you).

4. Please show respect to the other dueler's in the arena.

5. And most of all have fun! Creativity is always appreciated.

Professor Lawson will be popping into the arena, quite often to see how his students are fairing and will be quite happy to offer any assistance.

ooc: One small favor I ask. Please try and keep it as canon as possible. I don't expect any first year to pull off amazing dueling skills.

Thomas entered for his first time this year into the duelling arena. Thomas didn't come with anybody this time so he went to the dummies. Thomas took out his wand seeing if he can cast any spells that he read about in the library. Thomas went to one of the dummies and pointed his wand at it. Thomas memerised the incantaition of the spell and he said,"Stupefy" but nothing happened except that a small spark came out of his wand. Thomas thought that probably he needs to reapet the spell many times before he will be able to control the spell. Thomas again pointed his wand at the dummy and said,"Stupefy" this time a bigger spark came out of his wand but nothing hit the dummy. Thomas started to get impatient, he needed to know how to protect himself in any type of emergancies. Thomas decided to change spell, Thomas memorised another spell from the book and he pointed his wand at the dummy and said, "Rictusempra" and then a small red light shot out of his wand and almost hit the dummy. Thomas felt proud of himself. Thomas again pointed his wand at the dummy and he said,"Rictusempra" and again a red flash just shot out of his wand and hit the dummy. Thomas thought maybe he should try a knew spell for now. Thomas thought of which of the spells should he try now, then Thomas thought of one so he memorised the spell and he pointed at the dummy and he casted,"Explliarmus" and then a bright yellow colour just sprang out of his wand and hit the dummy really. Then Thomas deciced that he had been training enough for today so he put his wand in his pocket and left the arena.

Sheild charms? Either she was a first year, a transfer or she'd skipped Defence Against the Dark Arts last year. "It's not a really good one," Jake explained, referring to the charm. "We learnt it last year... had to sheild ourselves from the spiky acorns he made rain down on us," he went on, forgetting to elaborate on who the he was.

Hearing someone else, Jake looked around as Cela entered the Duelling Arena. And waited. She smiled... and waited.

Cue paranoia.

"Protego," Jake said again, casting a sheild charm that was a little stronger than last time. Lawson was up to something... oh yes, he was.

Sarah shook his arm and smiled. "Nice name." she muttered. The look on Jake's face told her, what he was thinking. "Am first year." she said hurriedly. She didn't want anyone to think she was a dunderhead. She listened to his explanation intently. So that was it, wasn't it? If only she mastered it, she'd been able to block the spells that coming runnings towards her. The ones that knock her down and give pain. The ones from her elder cousin. Nasty. How she wished she'd knew how to curse him right back.

Sarah turned to Jake's direction. A ravenclaw girl was smiling at him, looked as though she was waiting for him. She looked back at Jake as he did the shield charm again. Was he mad at someone or something? she thought. "Er, are you OK? You look terrible." she asked looking a little concerned. It was not that Sarah went gibbering and worrying for strangers, it was only her friends she cared for, but this boy did get her affection. And he was a Hufflepuff, those people, she was really found of the whole lot.

Thomas entered the duelling arena to carry on his training at dueling. Thomas went to one of the dummies nd pointed his wand at it and said,"Stupefy" a dark red spark just shot out of his wand and the dummy. Thomas thought about another spell memorised the spell and pointed his wand at the dummy and said,"Pertifcus Totalus" and then a small white spark hit the dummy. Thomas put his wand back in his pocket and left the arena.

This time determinate to practice the Disarming charm and not letting her anger get in her way, Lyra entered the room and headed straight towards a platform. Jumping on it she walked over to a dummy, her wand ready in her wrist holster. She had been practising with her holster in the Great Hall and wanted to see if she could do it using a spell directly after. Facing the dummy she waited a few seconds and counted in her head. 1..2..3...Draw! She said in her head and moved her wrist trying to catch her wand , but she was so excited that she dropped it. 'bloody horcr...hell' she cursed in her head, placed her wand in her holster and tried again. 1..2..3..Draw! this time she grabbed the wand pointed it at the dummy and said "Expelliarmus!" but..like the last time, it didn't work. Not giving up , Lyra placed her wand inside her wrist holster and counted again,three times the charm right?. 1..2..3 Draw! she moved her wrist, her wand dropped in her hand, she pointed it at the dummy and said "Expelliarmus!" *Bang!* the dummy fell on the ground. Lyra stared at it for a second and then she grinned broadly.

Kevin walked into the dueling arena and saw dummies to practice with and thought he would duel someone first and then practice with the dummies he looked about the room for somebody to duel with

Kevin drew his wand out and dodged the spell and shouted "Stupify" a jet of red light made his way towards Divad

Kevin saw the light coming and shouted "Protego" and felt the shield come round him and shouted "Pertificus Totalus" and watched as the spell made its way towards Divad

Divad was hit and froze up. Great! He was hoping Kevin would unfreeze him, but chances were slim.

Kevin walked over to Divad and said "Are you ok?" Kevin quickly said the counter charm and unfroze Divad

"Yeah. That was good, but not as good as this!" Divad jumped back, drew his wand. "Stupify!" Divad saw the red light exit his want tip and move in Kevin's direction.

"Oh really?" Divad smirked. "How about this?" Divad rolled to his left, and shot three spells back-to-back. "Expelliarmus! Augamenti! Stupify!"

Kevin shook his head and said "Protego" and shouted "Expelliarmus" and watched as the spell headed towards Divad and as the three spells bounded off of his shield and was very proud to know this charm
